I am running the Cyanogen's 3.6.4.1 which includes the HTC Camera, but would like to revert back to the Cupcake camera due to the lack of geotagging in the HTC Hero Camera app.
I've tried replacing /system/app/Camera.apk but the Cupcake camera doesn't show up in the menu. I then tried replacing libcamera.so, libqcamera.so, and libcameraservice.so in /system/lib, but no luck.
Any ideas?

Hey guys!
So I am using Fresh 2.0d and love it! But I am having one slight issue that would make it amazing for me. I use SlidescreenPro as my home screen replacement. When using it with SenseUI roms such as Fresh 2.0d, the stock HTC messaging app is overriding the ability to set Chompsms as my main app in Slidescreen. To prove it, I deleted mms.apk, and while it did set chompsms as my main sms app on the homescreen, it removed my ability to receive incoming messages. Does anyone have an mms.apk that will be the vanilla android sms/mms app that will work with the Fresh 2.0d ROM?
bumping to the top!
Bumped to the top. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you do a nandroid backup before you started erasing apks?
Yes i did, so I do have something to fall back on. But I would need to find an mms.apk with the vanilla android messenger app. Could i take it from an asop build and that should work with fresh 2.0d?
I think i figured it all out. I unziped a ROM in which the featured worked, copied the Mms.apk, deleted the current mms.apk, and pushed the working one. Seems to be working alright.
Is there a resource somewhere that I can use to troubleshoot a potentially busted camera?
Using the stock firmware (RC29), on a fresh install, the camera and gallery apps crash with "Activity Camera (in application Camera) is not responding", with only an option to force close. 3 out of 4 times, the device reboots when I click FC.
I've also used Cyanogen (4.2.15.1) and SuperD (1.10.3), and in both cases, the camera app crashes with "The application Camera (process com.android.camera) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Force close doesn't result in a reboot, though. Also, in these cases, the gallery works fine (I've uploaded some photos, and am able to view them without a problem).
In searching for solutions, I saw some suggestions to replace the existing Camera.apk with the original google one. I did give that a go, using 3 different versions -- one from JF 1.5, the one from DRC83_Defanged, and Cyanogen's (the current firmware I'm using). Both Cyanogen's and the DRC83 apks instantly crashed (process com.android.camera FC error).
On the other hand, the one from JF's package loaded, and had the camera icon appear in the top right corner of the screen, as if it could take a picture. The screen was completely black, though. Pushing the camera icon generated the FC error.
I haven't done any log checking while swapping out the different apks, but previously, the error log matched the problem occurring with "Issue 1037" on Cyanogen's google code page. (tried to link to it, but I haven't had the restriction removed yet.)
Are there any diagnostic tools or tricks that I can use to see if the camera itself is broken? I also have no problem physically cracking my G1 open -- I've already replaced the ribbon cable. I also double-checked that the camera ribbon was seated properly...it's a nasty one to get back in with my vision problems
Thanks in advance,
Nate

Is there a way to get to the ##3282# screen to change my MMS address in 2.2? Do you have to have a standard dialer to get this screen?
That feature and those ##code## menus aren't available in CM6 because they are Sprint/CDMA-based tools that are only found in Sense-based Sprint ROMs. CM6 is just pure Android and doesn't have a lot of the Sprint-specific stuff in it. The "standard dialer" I think you're referring to is probably the HTC Sense dialer which CM6 doesn't have because it doesn't use HTC Sense framework.
Ok, thanks. This is the only issue I'm having with the rom and its got me puzzled.

I want to replace the 3D gallery with the standard 2D one like on Android 1.6 because the 3D gallery takes forever to load thumbnails on my 32B, I also tried removing the thumbnail folder etc, noting really helped.
So is there also a 2D gallery for 2.1-update1 without Sense?
I'm not able to find one that's working on CyanogenMod 5.0.8- Daily Driver (08/09/2010)AlMod Final. Whenever I pull a 2D gallery from another 2.1 or 2.2 doesn't install or appear. Even if I recook the ROM and so on...
Thanks.
Hi,
have you found a solution? I have the same problem.
No, but I started to develop my own rom with 2D gallery for 2.1.
you may want to follow this thread
forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/7534-old-2d-gallery-in-cm6/
Thanks, but please read my post, it's not about CM6, I have no problem adding a 2D gallery there. But the CM 5.0.8 ai mod, that's where the problem lies. But I've started another ROM, so I can implement it myself.

And read his. The post there isn't specific to CM6, its about changing the gallery, which is very easy using adb
I've read every post on that thread.
FYI I'm not some noob who doesn't know how to push an apk file etc..
The ai mod has changed the framework etc..
But never mind.
Mod, close this thread please
I like to know how to change to a 2D gallery

Thank you!!! this is exactly what I needed!
The default SMS app in HTC Hero ROMs, to put it simply, sucks, especially since the 2.1 update, it keeps going up to the top and when opening the keyboard it doesn't scroll up either, scrolling is incredibly slow and the keyboard is quite laggy in this app.
I'm not keen on any of the ones in the market, specifically ChompSMS and Handcent (Chomp has ads and is slow, Handcent is slow).
I run a rooted HTC Sense ROM and just want the standard SMS app, it's fast and simple. I tried Froyo Elelinux (on the development forum but can't post link because I'm a new user and it's recognised as an outside link for some reason) the other day and the SMS app in that is great, from memory it's the same as the 2.1.
Does anyone know where I can grab this in APK form that'll install on my rooted but otherwise standard HTC ROM?
Thanks!
I too hate the Sense Messaging app. I use Handcent though, I do like the Message app from 2.2 it's quick and clean. If I find the stock 2.1 version I'll post it here.
EDIT: Here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=367490&d=1280204330
Thanks! But it doesn't install. I suppose I need to remove the Sense one first?
Edit: I used adb to rename Mms.odex in /system/app and then used adb push to overwrite stock mms app with the AOSP Mms.apk. It's so much better only problem is it doesn't seem to go into landscape mode...
