Ok the following is a minor issue but its bugging the life out of me!
Is there any way we can lock the start menu and notification bar ( wifi - battery) when the curtain is up on the dialer screen when in a call. Or even hide it all together.
My problem is when I'm in a call my ear always knocks the top right of the screen opening the notification menu so when I want to use the phone during the call I have to close that notification menu first and its just an extra step on a relatively slow phone anyways, and it seems to happen EVERY call.
Sorry for the tone its been bugging me for a while, does anyone have any suggestions? ( I know I can turn the screen off but theres no point in having the curtain over the buttons if the screens turned off etc.. ).
does no one else suffer from this issue?
Is there not a app that makes the dialer full screen thus hiding the start menu / notification bar?

TouchLockPro has a the option to lock the screen when a call is connected. And is usefull as general locking tool.
Have always used S2SU as seemed the most simple, however having read about TLP think I'll check it out thank you

Can the notification bubble be disabled?
Its absurd that in the sounds and notifications, I uncheck all notifications from all events and still get the "Dismiss" button for a notification of a missed call or voicemail or email or mms.
I really dont need to see new email counter increment, plus notification/dismiss bubble at the bottom of the screen and finally the envelope icon at the top. Im not that dense.

You need to uncheck "show message on screen" from the connection established event under sounds and notifications.
no that just dosnt allow the message to pop up on the notification. i dont believe there is anyway to disable the icon that pops up in the top.
but what you can do is disable the message that pops up

The instructions I posted prevent the notification bubble from popping up, which is exactly what the OP was trying to accomplish.
no i think he means the icon that pops up on the top not the message that comes up when ever something happend...
at least thats what i think he means...
Which one
I dont mind the envelope on top, what I do mind is when I have the keypad locked and it take 4-10 button presses to get the normal soft key navigation back.
Example:
Missed call, new email, new mms, new voicemail. Each has a seperate "notification" that has to be viewed and dismissed in 2 keystrokes.
So for example, on a missed call only:
1) Turn display back on
2) Unlock (left softkey)
3) Unlock touch right mid screen (or *)
4) click softkey notification (left softkey)
5) click dismiss softkey (right softkey)
As you can see, it takes 5 buttons to get my left softkey back to normal and get rid of the notification bubble. The handset icon with the ! on it is sufficient to indicate the missed call.
Now, how about a missed call, which of course causes a new voicemail:
1) Turn display back on
2) Unlock (left softkey)
3) Unlock touch right mid screen (or *)
4) click softkey notification (left softkey)
5) click dismiss softkey (right softkey)
6) click softkey new message
7) click softkey dismiss
Now add new voicemail, missed call, new email, new text message and you can see it takes a ton of annoying keypresses to get rid of the bubble notifications and return the softkeys to normal where I expect them to be whenever I need to use my phone.
I have everything unchecked in the sound/notify section so that doesnt help.
If I dont use Today but instead, a Today replacement, does that go away?
Thanks
take a look at this thread

goto HKCU\control panel\notifications\
and change whatever you want to not show up to 0 or 1 in the options. What i do is set everything to 0 and i used to have a 1 ring lag due to that stupid bubble but as a disclaimer i use S2U2 to Handel the phone calls and phone alarm to Handel notifications so i am able to turn all this stuff off and still have the notifications i ask for.
No Luck on that thread
No luck on that thread. I still get the missed call changing the softkey to Notification and then a bubble, then dismiss.
I tried setting all the "Options" in each key under notifications to zero. So far, I think they all went away except missed call.
I have also been looking for a solution to disable the left soft-key notification / notification bubble. It seems that anyone who receives a lot of calls, voicemail and e-mail on there phone would find this "feature" annoying. I've tried various phone alarm type applications and not had any luck.
You're idea of replacing the today screen sounds like a good idea.
...but so far I just have to disable all on-screen notifications in notification settings and then press the left-soft key over and over again to dismiss all those stupid notifications.

Absolutely! I also can not understand why it seems impossible to get rid of this "feature". Specialy since HTC Home Plugin (and lot of other today plugins) make this notifications absolutely unnecessary.
Hi,
I have searched and searched, and all I have come up with are apps to install that will basically lock the screen. Im looking for something that I can do to have my phone vibrate, ring, when an SMS is received, but I dont want the phone to wake up from sleep. Preferably not a separate application. When my phone is in my pocket I will receive a text and it will dial peoples numbers, push buttons because the screen is then lit up and becomes active. I simply want the phone to stay asleep when a text is received.
I have tried the regedit addition that some X1/Diamond users have been using:
[HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"DisableSMSWakeUpEvent"=dword:1
but it still does not work for me on my TytnII.
Any ideas?
A_C Slide2Unlock
Search for s2u2. I use it and when you recieve a text your phone lights up but unable to dial numbers or buttons being pressed due to your phone being "locked" by s2u2. It's a great program by A_C and has the ability to show you current weather, custom picture and even works in landscape mode. If you enjoy his program please donate something to him...Hope this helps.
Do you have your notification options set to display a message? I THINK I saw once where you could turn that part off and it would beep, but not wake the display.
Might be wrong though.
Ya, i have already tried turning off the notification message, the phone will still light up and wake up from sleep
Hello there,
I came to an extremely annoying problem with the dialer app on my phone (Oneplus 3T - Stock Oxygen OS 4.0.3), and after some dig up I came to a solution that I would like to share, since it was not too obvious to find.
[THE ISSUE]
Wherever I received a phone call I was not presented with the standard screen with buttons to swipe for answer or reject it.
If the phone was locked, the ringtone was heard but the screen was completely black. I had then to press the power button to wake the screen.
With the screen on, a small taskbar at the top of the screen (in color blue or green) was the only notice that a call was incoming at the moment. [See 1st image]
Then I had to touch the bar to finally get the standard dialer screen with the options to answer or reject the call.
This 3 step ritual, was extremely annoying to repeat to each of the 15-20 calls I receive daily.
Besides that, was common for the caller to not wait and hang up before I could make it.
[THE SEARCH FOR A SOLUTION]
Since I had no recent system updates, and I could not backtrack what settings change that I made to gain this black screen issue I started searching.
After some goggling, I found similar threads for black screen calls on forums talk.sony.mobile.com and oneplus.net, then it was possible to narrow that the problem was at InCallUI.apk not working properly.
When I checked the InCallUI app info on "Config > Apps > (menu) Show system > InCallUI" I could note the "Notifications" settings were "Silenced". [See 2nd image]
Bingo! But when I clicked on it there was no option to re-enable it. [See 3rd image]
Continuing the search I did find some solved threads, but the solutions proposed by it did not inspired me confidence.
All I could find was:
- fix the defective proximity sensor that caused the screen to go black;
[If that was my problem the screen would go black AFTER the call was answered and not BEFORE it. And beside that I double checked that my proximity sensor was OK during calls]
- backup, wipe the phone to factory settings and restore backup; [NO WAY!]
- install a new dialer app like Google Dialer; [I like my stock dialer, but why not? Tried but did not solved the black screen call issue]
- root and install an custom InCallUI.apk app; [I was intrigued that no root was necessary to cause the issue, so why it would be to solve it?]
- extract InCallUI.apk from an stock image, root, delete the actual apk and install the extracted clean one; [Not into it, maybe another time.]
[THE SOLUTION - not so obvious for some of us]
The recent Android 7.0 offered new options to customize notifications individually by app, so I focused on reaching the InCallUI.apk notifications settings somehow.
This is how I managed it:
1. Called myself from a second phone;
2. Awaked my screen with the power button;
3. Touched the "touch to return" taskbar (blue or green) to reach the incoming call screen; [1st image]
4. Did not answered and pulled the notification bar down to reach the InCallUI.apk notification item; [4th image]
5. Did not answered and hard pushed the InCallUI white notification item to the left so I could reach the gear icon to customize it; [5th image]
6. FINALLY changed the option from "Show notifications silently" to "Don't Silence" InCallUI and clicked "DONE".
7. Profit! Incoming calls screen back to normal behavior.
As I said this solution may be obvious, but since I struggled to find it this post may be of help to for some of us.
Thanks to XDA Forum community for all nice things it allowed me to I learn since my first HTC T-Mobile G1.
PS: Forgive my english, it's not my first language.
Worked perfectly fine.. hard left swipe to notification is the key..
Thanks
Please help - Life-long Blackberry user who can't seem to figure a few things out.
#1. My pulse light notification is turned on however ....no pulse light. (I have even assigned specific colors to certain apps) I have confirmed in 'settings' that the pulse notification is enabled.
#2. I have set certain contacts to have shortcuts on my home screen - they appear there quite fine. However, when I click on them, nothing happens. Nothing comes up. No view of the contact. I inadvertently selected initially, open as a contact always, but again - nothing. The short cut icons are there, but are not accessible when clicked. I have removed them and replaced them again - same result.
#3. How do I turn off my 'sleep' mode or even change it from the max of 10 mins?
#4. Why is it that when I turn off my screen, with the red button, so that the screen is blacked out, for battery purposes is why I usually do this, why is it that I don't receive notifications when the screen is blacked out? I have my phone set to vibrate and I can barely tell it is vibrating when it goes off. Again, pulse notification indicators were how I would know I have a message/email etc.,, on my bb however, they are not working per #1 above.
#5. In addition, further to #4 - when I do close off my screen using the red button on the side, I am required to enter my screen lock sequence to open, even if the phone has only been off for a few seconds. As I mentioned in #3, I have the 'sleep' set to 10mins - so why does it lock and not simply allow me to reengage the phone without having to unlock?
I am confident that these are all simply issues - however being completely new to the phone, I am having difficulty figuring out how to resolve them.
Thank you in advance to those providing feedback!
Regards,
Kimberly

1) Does it light when the phone is plugged to charger?
2) I'm using a different launcher (Nova Launcher) and contacts shortcuts works fine, so I don't know
3)I think it's the 3rd option in Display setting
4) You maybe should have to set permission manually in Battery settings
5) Under Privacy and Security, find Lock Screen (or Screen Lock), then Security Lock setting and there you can change the lock delay time
Hi all,
I bought a Xiaomi 9 SE a while back, coming from iPhone. I was under the impression that everything was tweakable with android, but i can't figure out how to adjust the pop-up notifications from whatsapp in any way. Currently whenever i receive a whatsapp message my screen turns on and shows a huge rectangle in the middle of the screen showing the message with two buttons beneath it reading "reply" and "close". Then i can scroll to the right and left, showing the next message and previous messages in case i received more than one. This sucks for a number of reasons.
The rectangle looks like it was invented in 1999. It is so obnoxious; huge, ugly with no way around it. It stays on your lock screen blocking everything else until you've closed it manually. When i (feel forced to) close the preview screen (because i want to use my phone for another purpose) there is no way of retrieving the previews of the messages, i have to open the app instead.
The time stamps are missing. I have to figure out the chronology of messages myself by looking at the number in the upper right corner (1 of 13, 2 of 13 etc.) but even then i don't know if the message was sent an hour ago or a minute ago (and even then, i don't know if message 13 was the last one or message 1). Besides, this 'scrolling' to the left and right is so time consuming and unclear compared to being able to look at all messages beneath one another with the first one at the top and the last one at the bottom in one quick view (as with my old iphone).
Phone companies are always nagging about protecting privacy and therefor not showing the content of preview messages of whatsapp, i never understood this when i was on iphone and the previewed messages were subtle, vague and small - with the longer messages needing to be expanded by a swipe down with the finger to fully view (in case of texts longer than a couple of words). But now i get it, these android preview messages light up the screen in a way you can not NOT look at it and the content of the messages is right there in the middle to read for everyone. Also with iPhone i remember the screen would only light up with the first message you received from someone and have some sort of cooldown timer on it before the screen turned on again, with my xiaomi every message someone sends makes the screen light up. In case of people who send a lot of messages in a row (instead of making 1 long message) that means the phone screen in turned on for minutes on end, super annoying and distracting.
Am i totally missing something or is this just the way whatsapp preview messages work with android? Is there any option somewhere hidden to change the form of the whatsapp preview messages to something less obnoxious? Or any third party app for that matter, as this is driving me crazy.
I have MIUI 11 since a day or two now, and was hoping this would change things, but so far i haven't figured it out.
Thanks in advance all!
Yes there is. Just disable the so called toast messages. And you can also disable lock screen messages. And of course disable whatsapp message notification at all!
For the first thing. Whatsapp>settings>notifications>use high priority notifications
For the second check your android AND launcher specific lockscreen settings.
For the third option check the App permissions. or just modify the appearance of the message the time it is there. Grab it left or right and then hit the settings gear for notification display permission (I hope it is called like this).

hi, thanks for the answer. I think this does not solve my issue if i understand everything correctly. To be clear: i WANT notifications on my lock screen, just not in the form of the idiotic big rectangle. I want the more subtle, smaller, elongated 'balloons'. Strangly enough when i press "close" on the previewed messages on my Lock screen they disappear and for a second turn into such a small 'balloon', only to disappear straight away then.
The "use high priority notifications" gives a little pop-up at the top of the screen that disappears after like 2 seconds. This is no problem for me.
Under "ambient display and lock screen" settings you can choose for the screen whether to light up or not when a message is received. Although i'd like there to be some sort of cooldown to prevent my phone from lighting up for longer periods on end or all the time, this is not the biggest issue either. (Apparently this overruled by something else as setting it to "do nothing - when notifications come and the screen is off" does not work, it still lit up when receiving a whatsapp message)
Under "notifications" settings you can select "lock screen notifications", "floating notifications" and "notifications badges" - so i go to 'lock screen notifications' where i can select 'format' (sounds promising!), but this only gives me the options to:
- show notification content
- show notifications but hide content
- don't show lock screen notifications
No option to change the style of the Lock screen notifications frustratingly.
EDIT: i may have just found the answer myself ... turn off "pop-up notifications" in the whatsapp settings. This way you still get notifications, but no longer the horrible big ones in the middle of the screen
