hello everyone
just got my 8g class6 card partitioned to ext2
running cm3.6.5 and it shows my card being partitioned.
now my question is, what else do i need to do in order for my apps to run from the sd card?? I'm very new to all of this and need some help.
i thought cm's build would automatically do this but i've downloaded apps from the market and they take up my available memory up so i'm missing something. hehe.
do i need a certain app to do this or commands of some sort?
I've tried searching the site but can't find simple to understand instructions.
Thanks again in advance for any help.

Nope, Cyan should automatically be doing it for you. Try rebooting the phone. If they are doing something, it should be in small amounts. How many apps/how much room remaining on the internal memory?
cool, thanks for the reply.
wierd thing is that when I had flashed cm's rom i had 73 MB on internal
I then installed the hero theme and that changed it to 69 MB.
reflashed the rom again to take off the theme and MB still on 69.
I just installed like 15apps and they are indeed on my 2nd partition! w00t
It's the data. Data doesn't reside on the SD. So if you browse the internet or market, you will notice you're internal mem go down. But you can fix that by just deleting the caches

hi guys...
i have searched over and over how to make apps2sd work on dwang but there are some answers however no straight answer following. i am sorry if theres any other post in the forum that i may have missed.
so i have the amon-ra recovery...
i have partitioned my sd card (2gig)
32 linux swap
400 ext2 (already upgraded to ext3)
rest is fat32..
now when i goto sd card &phone storage.. i see sd card (following total space and etc..) and i see internal phone storage.
now when i download a app.....i see decrease on my internal memory. i even tried selecting move apps-cache to sd card from recovery mode.
i am not understanding wats going on. i need some help please!
once again sorry if theres already some post about this.
Its just cache from market its not relelated to apps2sd.It builds up over time.Do a search in market for cache and look for the cache mover, so it will be on your sd instead.
-Happy new year
isnt A2SD automatic on dwangs? usually all you need is a second partition in order for it to work...
hey i thought it was automatic too but it doesnt seem like. how can i verify if the ext3 has some usage? and i downloaded the cache mover now it took up so much space on my sd card. even after that i downloaded a app and it still seem to affect my internal memory! please help. i had my sd card partitioned and emptied (formatted) even before installing the dwang rom.....
You know its being used because you would have like 20~ free internal mem
Ace42 what u mean...i didnt download alot of apps. when i flashed with a full wipe i had abt 81 mb rite now i have abt 68 after having installed abt 5 apps so it means maybe not working i am guessing... and even after moving cache i dun see any difference in internal storage...
is there anyone who can be of some assistance plz.....?
Try doing the flash process again but leave it at EXT2 instead of upgrading.
but when i do flash...shouldnt i have a second sd card displayed on my phone in setting? coz when i did cyanogen i had two sd card option. first one being the sd card. second one was unavailable until partitioned the drive. and i was able to see how much space is left after i download and install an app....on the second sd card option. however with dwang i dun have that
Hello Everyone, I was hoping someone could tell me if there was a quick fix or if I need to do a reinstall & add something that I didn't add.
I noticed today, my phone telling me it is running low on space & when I checked, it said I only had 9 megs left on the phone memory, however it did show I still had 465 megs on the secondary sd memory free.
I decided to try & install an app to see if the sd memory would go down or the phone memory. Well, the phone memory went down, but not the sd secondary.
I'm looking at the storage & unmount sd card & format sd card are "grayed out"
I also do have a \system\apps folder with some apps, along with the same one under \sd card\system\apps which that also has some apps.
Is there something I can do that can fix this? Or something else I need to check?
The only thing that I didn't do originally was create a swap partition.
Thanks
i believe if u reboot your phone all apps get thrown into ext partition. also try using cachemate , that will free up tons of space on your phone

If you want to have your apps on your sd card then you need an ext partition. You cannot currently house your apps on your sdcard.
I've got CyanogenMod 6 on my N1 but it tells me I'm running out of space. Even using the Froyo apps2sd it's not saving me much.
If I go into CyanogenMod settings and tell it to use external, it doesn't move them? How does this work?
Also, if an app is Froyo'd to the SD, the market seems to struggle to update it?
Anyone help me?

You can use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715940.
Just create ext partition on your sdcard and flash downloaded zip from recovery.
First boot takes little longer because all apps will be moved to ext partition.
Thanks, seems to be doing the trick. I think it leaves the apps behind still. Do you know if I can safely delete them from the internal memory now?
You should not delete them. You probably don't understand how app2sd(ext) works.
In froyo everything you have moved on SD is at fat on you SD (froyo style) and everything you have on internal storage is on ext partition (old app2ext style).
Yes, but not really internal storage, it's on the partition at the beginning of my SD Card. Disk Usage looks like it's saying all the old apk's are still on the internal storage of the phone.
Anyway, no real issue. It picked up all the apps I used to have on the partition, so I had to clear a lot of those out.
i am using the cyanogen mod and have been installing apps to my sd card thru "managing applications". However, i found out that not all of the data is being transferred and some are still left on the internal phone storage. As u guys alr noe, the milestone has very little phone storage, so my phone storage are still quite full at times.
I've seen threads regarding partitioning the sd card so to install the apps to it. Does this really work? I mean is it better than the one mentioned above?
Can someone help with this? I'm new to partitioning so can anyone help by giving step by step instructions, or simply just justify whether this whole partitioning thing works.
Thx in advance
You may give Titanium Backup a try - it can force-move apps from internal memory to SD and vice versa. Long-tap onto the app-> move to sd (or similar, got a german one )
//EDIT: partitioning the sd card is called "app2sd" - there're scripts for this, but with memhack etc. I have enough memory for the moment, so I don't use it
Hi Everyone,
I was able to successfully install honeycomb on my NC and it runs surprisingly well. My only problem is that when I check the available storage the internal memory only shows .92GB of total memory, is this normal? This was only my second attemp at rooting an android device so it is very possible that I may have missed something in the process but I thought I was pretty thorough. Can someone tell me how much internal memory should be available after a fresh install of honeycomb on the NC? Also if I have done something wrong can someone point me int he direction or correcting my mistake? I'm guessing I need to reformat, repartition the internal SD card and reinstall honeycomb. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I'm running the deeper blue V4 honeycomb rom Using Clockwork mod 3.0.0.5 from SD card.
I am having the same problem. I used a 16GB SD card. After writing image to it, it shows on my computer as 109MB free of 115MB. I plug it into my NOOK. Under Storage SD card, it shows total space of 1.25GB and available space of 1.14GB. This is without the market installed.

Thank you. So that means doesn't matter how big the SD card is, the size is determined by /data and can't be changed because of the build?
The fix to this is in the HC SD card thread. Take the care out, plug it back into the PC you wrote it from, and run EASUS partition manager to extend partition 4 (data) to fill the remainder of the SD card. my 8 GB card wound up with ~6GB data partition

Thank you for your pointer. I did a search and lots thread came up but I still couldn't find what I am looking for. Could you by any chance post the link pleeeeeeease? THANK YOU!
Google partition-tool.xxx and download the home edition.
I had it run on XP and worked very well.
I think there might be some confusion here, at least on my part. The fix you suggested seems to be for fixing the partitions on an external SD card. I am running HC off of the internal memory and have this problem. I can use the NookColorUMS app and mount the data partition so that it shows up in disk management in windows but I am unable to manipulate the partition so I cannot edit it. I also have a partition called "Media" which is 5GB. It seems that I need to move those 5 GB over to the data partition but I cannot figure out how to accomplish this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
same here
I have the exact same problem
I was able to use the procedures in this conversation
[HOW-TO] Repartitioning the NC back to 1GB/data, 5GB/media
to repartition and reformat my internal drive, although I did end up reloading Honeycomb at the same time, even though it said that it wouldn't affect the OS. Noobie that I am, I affected the OS :-(
