Battery Problem! Doesn't last long... - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

My battery is really not lasting that long on this Diamond. Any thoughts/suggestions would greatly appreciated. Someone recommended a regedit in regards to auto internet disconnect. If someone can point me in the right direction, that would be great! Thanks!

Welcome to the club

I had the same issue with mine when i changed the ROM and RADIO, So Im using a cooked Rom(Energy 3.0) and a test RADIO from at&t and I have to say it improved considerably. I would change the radio and play a bit with the power management section in Advanced Configuration (awesome app). (plus the usual "lower your brightness, dont stay connected when youre not using it, turn off ur screen every now and then" protocol)
Dont look at your battery meter so much and youll be fine. Best of luck

Battery Killer: Filesys.exe 100% Load

It seems that my phone will sometimes randomly start running out of battery really fast and memmaid shows that the process filesys.exe is taking up the processor at a 100% load. I know that this is part of how windows mobile accesses its storage systems, but I doubt that it's normal. Anyone else having the same problem?
All red items have been uninstalled to see if they were the cause.
I'm running:
Touch-IT full ROM
Battery Status beta 1.04
Default Company Picture Viewer
S2U2 0.5
PocketCM Contacts 0.15
ClearTemp
OP3 ShortCode
FlashVideoBundle
Picsel Browser (Which BTW since installing has made my free space significantly shrink...)
vTap
TRE (reg editor)
memmaid demo
PocketTweak
Pocket Notepad
tGetFile.dll
PocketWeather
HTC Home
Total Commander
psShutXP
Mobile Office
hmm... That list suddently feels a lot longer than it did before. lol
But nothing is running in the background with the exception of ActiveSync.
Thanks guys
Update: Here's a list of what modules filesys.exe has loaded according to Memmaid:

fatsd.dll
cecompr.dll
HtcFsdspy.dll
imgfs.dll
mspart.dll
trueFFS.dll
Fsdmgr.dll

coredll.dll
Update: It seems that the two coredll's are taking the most resources, but I can't test this out as I don't have any software that can break it down for me, except for abctaskman or whatever it's called and that's only a demo so it won't show me which module is using what other than the other of their CPU usage.
UPDATE: I thought that maybe it was a similar issue to this, but that it was running the compaction on my memory card since I had set the volatile temp to run from that... but that hit a wall as well when I made it run on the main memory again.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention that I also have the Extended ROM enabled as well.
MODS, can we please move this to one of the general forums? I'm not sure which one would be best, though....
OK, so far I've found out that it's a problem not only with this ROM but with WM5 on other devices.
Here is a patch for another device and OS. What I'm trying to figure out is what exactly he patched so we can do the same to our file for our phones.
HI !
I run the German Touch-IT Rom with S2U2 and have the same Problems. Here is what i found out:
- Battery drains in 3-4 Hours IF mortplayer has been started. I usually use Mortplayer to wake me up in the morning. My Music is stored on the SD Card, but this has always been this way.
- I have problems with the batteriy since S2U2 was installed.
-> Maybe Su2u does not suspend our Herald, so that the SD-Card is not suspended, too. Maybe filesys.exe (and with this mortplayer and also HTC Home) randomly ask if the card is still available - Which consumes a lot of power.
...
What do you think ?
I will delete S2U2 when i don´t need the wakeup function this weekend
Hmm... It started around the same time that I added S2U2... I'll try to remove it and see what happens.
I temporarily disabled S2U2 but no change.
Updated with more info.
I hate to bump my own thread, but it seems that updating the thread doesn't bring it up any higher. I wonder if anyone else was having the same exact issue?
I'm determined to solve this problem, as it brings my battery life to a sad 6 hours if the EDGE is on, about 9 hours when it's not. And that's with me underclocking it half the time... and the screen brightness down... and with the phone in "hybernate" or whatever you call the screen being off most of the day...
S2U2 actually did dramatically decrease my battery life... Uninstalling fixed it. Just thought I'd say that; I don't know anything about your other issues, sorry.
I have the same problem too on a mda vario (wizard) with wm6 rom(Dutch version) more info about the rom: http://cleanimport.xda/index.php?threads/350255/
I have been searching around for a solution. But I could not find one.
Here is my list of the modules filesys.exe has loaded according to Memmaid:

Does anyone have found a solution for this problem?
whixh general??
there is "development and hacking" or "modifying and upgrading" i´m also NOT sure
S2U2 has also caused a battery drain on my wing as well. As i am sure it is the #1 reason my wing will crash (lock up) then when i reboot the wing it freezez permently on the password screen. i have tried numberious soft resets. with and without the microsd in... eventually i have to hard reset!
all applications that is running on your homescreen is consuming battery, because its constantly loaded in memory.
If you want a battery that last long, you need to remove sd-card, htc home, cube, touchflo, point-ui or w/e you use to make your device look cool.
you can put it this way, the more stuff you have, the more cool stuf you have, the faster is your battery draining. Ofcourse you can run BS and set up your device with tweaks and w/e, but in the end it all comes to what you want, lasting battery or a "cool" looking device.
In my personal rom, I use htc home, I like it. I use actionscreen and random acces. I have BS to configure battery usage, I deleted EVERYTHING that I dont use in the rom, and yes, it last way longer then fully or moderate loaded roms, but im sure if I kept only basic os, i could prolong battery with a day or two, but I dont need that. I have a device that is compatible to run so many cool things, and I have it because of the many features.
If you can figure out what you want to use in a daily basis, and you can manage to stay away from the heavy eyecandy-stuff (wich you keep to impress your friends) then you can have a longer batterylife
hi guys,
i had the same problem with S2U2, but since i use the cpu-scaler in battery status it's ok.
My battery lifes 3-4 days.
My settings from cpu-scaler: 130 - 201 - 234 without boost.
so i hope this will help you to cause your problem.

3-4 days!? is that with no data usage, no talking, pretty much letting ur phone just sit on the table? because the ABSOLUTE most i can get is 1 1/2 days. That sounds a lil too extreme...
did someones try filesys patcher from aximsite?
i'm using gprs over bt always on, a2dp (3-4hours daily), ~50 sms, opera mini and mobilegadu (im) and after 20hours i still got ~40% on this battery and this unit. i had another herald earlier and it was not possible to have 12hours without charging...
and btw - ive got s2u2 running all time and after it is cooked into rom its not using so much energy..
but a2dp draining more battery than on other devices (wizard, universal...)

no, i uses my phone every day for 20min calling, 30sms and 1 hour gprs internet.
I used to have O2 Neo as my device, and when I tried to install "some apps from HTC rom", I notice a warning about battery drain bug of HTC Camera from some mods and admins in another forum.
Now I owned a HTC P4350 and have HTC Camera as defaul camera app on ROM. My battery always drains above 100mA or even 300mA . Do you think that it's caused by the HTC Camera appplication ? any idea how to remove it from ROM ????

Hello
Here the same. After I uninstalled S2U2 the battery was longer full.
Regards, Tommy
I seem to also have a problem with S2U2 on the LGKS20. Its a pity because its not just eye candy - its the only app I ever found that prevents accidental answer etc.. I also had massive battery drain with SPB mobile shell. bummer

dimond newbie please help

i got my diamond and all things are well, i got this as a orange upgrade and i have read various threads here and they say i should upgrade my ROM to give better battery life/performance etc.
my rom details are:
ROM version: 1.93.405.1 WWE
ROM Date: 08/06/08
Radion version: 1.00.25.05
Protocol version: 52.29.25.12W
the weird thing is that it says rom update 08/06/08!! which seems OLD??? i got it as a upgrade from orange just today and it funnily enough doesn't have the orange theme to which the manual shows!??
SHould i return the handset and demand a newer ROM (assuming they have one which give additional benefits) or upgrade myself? which is something i dnt want to do
You have Orange's newest ROM. It does not have any of the Orange themed tabs etc the manual says it should, but that is just the way it is (and was for the last ROM to!)
I have no problems with this ROM - it works fine and gives me reasonable (for a TD) battery life. It is quicker and slicker than the previous Orange ROM
Lots of people on here will tell you to change to a different ROM that has been customised - they all have their favouraites. It is up to you, but remember it will probably invalidate your warranty with Orange if they find out and if you have a future problem.
It is up to you - I chose not to risk it with my new £300 toy!
hi thanks for the reply. SO this is the latest ROM update? from Orange?
it seems people have a lot of people commentating on better performance etc by adjusting touchFlow have you tried this update on the above ROM? (i am new i am assuming you dnt need to update the ROM to update individual applications)
Yep it is their latest.
I had the previous ROM when I got my diamond in June and downloaded and installed the later one when it became available on the Orange website.
Apps will install no matter what ROM you have - I have resisited doing very much in the way of mods or apps. I use it for ordinary phone, for sat nav (with TT6), for picking up emails when i am away from the computer, for use as a PDA and for the occassional snap. It works fine for all of those out of the box so why change it for me?
The only apps I have installed are Gsen, which enables me to use landscape mode in most programmes, and BTmusic, which enables my Parrot car kit to pick up the sat nav warnings and instructions and relay them through my car audio.
thanks for your informative reply
a quick few questions....
1. GSEN? does that work? i saw a thread on it here and also is there a latest update to this?
2. I have charged the phone and i had a query the first 3-4 charges, do i run the battery low until the phone switches off? or until it gets lower then 10%? i read it takes 3-4 charges until the battery life can be seen.
3. why does the phone not switch on, when u press the touch screen/tap the call buttons? after i locked it and left it for a few mins and i have to put the on/off button to see how to unlock it. Is that normal or is my set-up incorrect?
GSen works fine for me.
I did not worry about the battery - just started using the phone. I have a cradle for mine (from ebay) that I sit it in most nights - it syncs with my computer and charges. It also charges in the car in the Brodit active mount I use.
i dont recomend gsen, every app can go to landscape, try gyrator much better app,and you can disable same apps not to rotate+ it has no landscape crashing.

Not on the version of Gsen I downloaded! I can set which apps do and don't use the landscape mode in the set up.
i used gsen before but probably this is the newest version

This is normal. Otherwise the phone would keep coming on and dialing without you knowing when it was in your pocket. If you want to change it go into settings/system tab/keylock

How to improve battery performance

This is a technic how to improve your battery life in htc touch hd
1 - disable any 3g @ data connection
2 - disable any incoming beam in connection setting
3 - customize the power usage in power setting
4 - disable gps option in gps setting [ recommendation ]
5 - disable any wireless connection in standby
6 - Turn off Bluetooth when not used
7 - Experiment with different Radio ROM's they actually have a big impact on the battery life, depending on your location.
8 - Use Lumos to control the backlight or set it to manual and turn it as low as you like
9 - turn on\off WiFi in specified times
thanks for mccune
this is only way i know how to improve battery life...
hope users here can share with me
thanks
but what if i want to use them all the time? haha.
nice idea though, if you disable them does that mean they wont work unless you re-enable them? or do you just mean "turn off"?
... or you could just leave your HD switched off all day long, using a 50 $ mobile... because if you switch off all those things that's what our HD would turn into...
Kidding, of course.
But why should you buy a 500 bucks pda-phone and not to use wifi, bt, gps and so on?
A way to optimize battery life, IMHO, is to use "clever" ROMs: that's it.
Bye!
and why not turn off for ever?
becoz touch hd battery drain is so quickly
Some people really are an expert in posting useless replies :S
If you don't access a WiFi network. Why in earth enable it?
For some people the tricks from the first post might be nothing new. But a lot have WiFi and BT activated even if they don't use it. So Core7x started a nice thread actually. But it should have been in the Blackstone section. Maybe a MOD can move it there.
To add some things to your list:
- Turn off Bluetooth when not used
- Experiment with different Radio ROM's they actually have a big impact on the battery life, depending on your location.
- Use Lumos to control the backlight or set it to manual and turn it as low as you like.
Use a profiler tool to turn on\off WiFi in specified times.

... and I'm one of them. I was just smiling at this thread and of course didn't mean to be brute!
I'm wanderring why I should have in my pocket something worth hundreds of euros/dollar and using it as a 29.99 $ Nokia (by the way: I own one of these low cost mobiles...). Just in order to be away from the plug for a whole week? Any function you have drains battery and, of course, it's good to turn off functions as you don't use them. But what if you work in a WiFi-covered factory and use a BT hearphone?
I bought an external battery (sorry for my english... I don't really know how to call that battery "thing" that you can easily charge and carry and has a series of plugs to fit most phones).
That's all. And I feel sorry if looked so "expert in posting useless replies..."

Not the 1.2 version though, 1.0 is the 'ace' version.
Thanks for the tips. I wasn't aware that having the incoming infrared beam checked would have an impact on battery life, since HD doesn't have I/R.
As for the WiFi, there's a tool that turns wifi on/off when in range of a CellID, thus making it location based (sort of). It's handy if you need Wifi at work and home, but not when you're commuting. I've tested it and it also works on HD.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448783
The incoming beam option is just a safety option on the Touch HD.
It used to activate IR and make it possible to receive files over BT. Now it only applies to Bluetooth so I can't imagine that enabling this option would drain the battery (in tests it even proved that the IR didn't drain the battery).
The main idea is to use the features when you really need them !

Exactly, and this should be common sense anyway. I only use wifi, gps, bluetooth etc when I need them.
NOTE
Also leaving bluetooth on all the time leaves your phone vunerable to hackers you can access your phone and take your credit, steal files etc
WifiLocation automize Wifi

new rom

Have any of you seen this thread by Cornflipper at PPC geeks? :
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=109527
I just took the plunge and flashed, I hope this is legit, well if not.... that is what insurance is for right? lol
So, I flashed it and it seems to be a little more stable, it has a new sys and new Radio..... I hope it turns out to better than stock, it will make waiting for the HSPL a little eaiser.
Flashed the new rom last night basically for the new radio ( 2.25 ). I ran it for a couple of hours before I put Sense 2.5 2011 back on it. The radio is better where I live ( I got an extra bar at home ) and the calls seemed a little clearer with more volume. Data and sms seem smoother and the rom seems a little faster and smoother. I do like it better .
After having this rom on for a day or so , the the thing that really sticks out is that there is virtually no memory leak , I can't believe it ! My free memory has been at 52 - 56% all day . Was worth the flash.
I jumped on this and I have to say, I'm really happy that I did. The device is notably more 'snappier' than it was. I never really had much of a memory leak problem, but I'm seeing slightly less memory usage than I typically do.
No problems at all updating, either. The installer that was posted on the first post of that thread worked out of the box for me, painless and easy. Just a re-sync to get my contacts back and some reconfiguration was all that was required. Cornflipper is my hero
One thing I noted that I like, and maybe it was there in the stock ROM and I just missed it during setup, was the ability to set the multimedia button to launch the TouchFlo Music tab. While the music app still seems pretty laggy/slow with a 10GB library on a storage card, being able to use that button makes me happy. If only I knew how to set the volume granularity under TouchFlo. (WMP still makes a better MP3 player mode for now IMO)
Not sure about battery usage, I went down to 90% pretty fast, but I've been downloading/reinstalling a bunch of things. Radio does seem to stay 3G instead of 1X better than it did as well.
I recommend. Nothing appears to have gotten worse.
edit: It also seems that the data connection will turn itself on by default now after soft-resetting the device, which is new for me. It was always OFF for me unless I turned it on manually. Data conn still dies when powering the phone off, though. I've had issues with data crapping out randomly, maybe that will be fixed too, but haven't had the ROM long enough to know one way or the other.
edit 2: I thought I took a major hit in battery life today, without even using the phone for anything it was down to 50% after being unplugged for 9 hours. However, it also charged back to 100% in about 15 minutes, so it looks like flashing the ROM messes up the battery gauge again. Using my original trick of charging, unplugging, charging, unplugging ... until it just won't charge anymore. Worked when the phone was new
I highly recommend it!
I have to agree with the concensus over at PPCGeeks . . . this rom ROCKS!
One of the bigest things for me is that A2DP starts automatically now. When I get into my car and start one of my Podcasts, it imediately plays through the car stereo; I don't have to go ino the BT settings and start it!
The memory leaks seem to have been fixed for the most part - it starts at 52% after a restart and only creeps up a bit from there. I also see far moe 3G coverage than with the old ROM.
I can't say that I have noticed any battery improvement though . . . but it is certainly no worse!
If you haven't updated yet . . . what are you waiting for?

No, I didn't do anything special . . . in fact I noticed it by accident. Since this was a problem with the previous ROM I stopped using it, but one day I just started playing a PodCast when I got into my car and it played through the radio. I was pleasantly surprised!
I can't say that I have noticed that the sound quality is lower (I mostly listen to spoken-word Podcasts, so quality is not a big issue), but I do notice a half-second pause from time to time. It's a bit annoying, but not a big deal considering what I'm listening to - if I was listening to music I imagine it would be VERY annoying!
Installed - but WORSE memory mgmt?

So I upgraded to the latest and greatest and have seen worse behavior in memory management. I used to be able to go a number of days without rebooting, now memory shoots from 58% upon boot to 70% in a few minutes. Exact same applications installed, nothing new but the ROM.
I've also had strange issues where the phone doesn't always ring -- screen lights up, but no ringtone.
Anyone else see new issues since upgrading?
More oddities with the new ROM
FYI: I also manually put my phone into Vibrate mode...it somehow went back into Automatic mode without my knowledge / intervention (which also disrupted a meeting I was in when my alarm went off). Not sure if this is because I was using ActiveSync at the time...but this new ROM is IMHO not nearly as good as the stock one.
ROM is official via Verizon Support Page
Looks like Verizon has made this official. If you go to the support page on Verizon.com and click on software updates, it takes you to:
http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=136&cid=1&mid=364&carrier=Verizon Wireless
I took the plunge two days ago and upgaded to this new ROM. Wow, what an improvement! Maybe it's my imagination, but the device seems to run faster, the touch screen seems more accuate, expecially when typing and cell reception is better.
honestly...
and no disrespect to those who DID notice an improvement, but after flashing to this updated ROM and using my device as normal, i don't see any difference at all.
Sure, they fixed that issue when you first restore your sms database and it takes FOREVER to re-thread your messages...but now, i just see that they "fixed" it by stopping my restored messages from re-threading at all. so much for that..

For me, the Energy ROM is the best balance of performance and functionality. He provides several options and updates the ROMs frequently as new .cabs become available. The download links are in one of the first few posts in this thread:

You should go on ebay and buy a new battery
pretty cheap
For me, its seems coming from android drivers, because WM runs for 3days without plugging AC Power ...

Oh haha, I have the same problem, your not the only one. But in the android porting of the DIAM, this has been known as a issue, and this point everything is being done. The battery is just PART of a list of bugs and issues.
What you can do to limit battery drain
1] Lower settings on android -Screen brightness, -Use Data when needed otherwise keep it off, also with internet.
2]I have gone through many kernels and it all of them vary, but ill let you know what kernel i have [because its ok with the battery]
3]Be patient because this is a project in the making so fixes will come as they are found [camera, video etc]
ALL this is mentioned through the massive thread [I would hate to read it all]

stay tune
Adjust your backlight (for me, the maximum brightness is too strong - I'm photophobic- so I use the backlight on its 30~40%), or turn off connections like GPS, BT or Wi-Fi, just turn on when it's necessary...
It'll save some batt...
If the problem continues, grab a new batt on ebay...
I did it, it seems to be better, after 12h with a low utilization, the battery is at 60%.
But it's long to wait for a good release x)
