SDCARD unmounts itself - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a new sdcard, tried with many sdcards they unmount themselves after somtime or if i try to format them

I am not sure about the time thing but the card would need to be unmounted in order to be formatted.

Try reflashing? When I got my new card, I went through a confusing little loop of flashing and trying different partitioning structures.. At some point I must have broke something, because mine kept unmounting by itself. After a wipe and flash of a new firmware, though, it started working fine and hasn't given me any issues since.

SD Card Unmounting
I had similar problems and it turned out filesystem was corrupt.
I had to remove the card from the G1 and format it using the pc and an SD card adapter ( (I used an adapter as I have no card slot on my pc).
All works well now.

SD Card Removal Crash

Hey there-
I've been searching around on the forums before I asked this and I havent seen anything like it. I might just be retarded. Anyways, anytime that I remove my SD card with the phone on, the phone immediately freezes. Sometimes I have to remove the battery after this, and sometimes itll just reboot. I've also noticed that whenever I plug my phone into the computer, it doesn't recognize that a USB cable is connected (no notification to mount, and no USB debugging) When I try to eject the SD card from the menu, the options to unmount the sd card and to format are both greyed out. I'm not running a2sd, or swap. When I try to boot the phone without my sd card in, it won't get passed the g1 logo? I'm running cm5, anybody have any ideas?? Thanks
Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the cache would go on the SD Card?
(With all saved settings, etc.)
So i think thats your "problem"...
Look what formating your card have, a good guide to find this out
can you find here:

I noticed when I formatted the card I removed the swap partition, and everything acted the same as before. Then I formatted it again and removed my ext partition, and the phone would not boot again. Then I formatted yet again and put the ext partition back on, and it booted just fine. So I guess my phone won't boot or run without an ext partition? I've rooted a few phones from stock to CM5 and I haven't thrown an ext partition on there, so why does mine require it?

External SD not mounting with USB attached

Just flashed to JM2 today (had issues with JP2), I have the mimocan fix applied using ext4 at about 1 gig, the rest of the 8gb micro sd is fat 32, when the card is in the phone, all the data on the card shows up no problem but when I connect the phone to my PC via usb and mount to tranfer files the external sd doesn't show up. The internal does but not external, tried clicking the actual removable disk on my computer and it says to insert a card, any help is appreciated with this, cheers lads.
Edit: Solved, paragon wasn't formatting fat32 partition properly, formatted using windows and all is well.
yeah I have same problem since jp2 and not fixed in jp3, some have it working but its 50/50, tried all the normal ways but it says write protection/no permission, no fix for it that I hear of so have to wait on jp4 I guess.
I've had this problem with prev updates and I find that if you reformat the TF card inside SD settings (on phone) it works again. Don't forget to unmount the card first
But yes, I think its a problem with Paragon

[Q] SD Card Problem

Recently my SD card became "damaged" or so the Android OS told me. I have a AData Class 6 16gb MicroSDHC card. When it gave me the initial message I attempted to "format" the card, yet it simply "pretended" to format it and then try to mount it again, where it said it was damaged. I tried to wipe the SD card, then i tried to wipe my phone, and neither of those seemed to fix it.
I spoke with a friend in the XDA IRC channel and he showed me an article saying that its possibly related to a bad boot, where i had no battery and tried to boot my device resulting in a fried SD card. This seemed likely, but then when i tried to use ANOTHER SD Card (2GB Sandisk) this one had the same issues.
Both of the SD cards work in my laptop card reader, so I no longer believe it to be a Card issue, and more a phone issue. I was able to boot into recovery and partition the SD cards, or so it said it partitioned. And then i was able to put the SD card into my computer after partitioning, putting some files on it, and then wiping it in recovery mode. All with the card still "functioning" but as soon as I boot into Android it says that the card is damaged, and the card no longer functions on my computer and I have to reformat it.
Is this a hardware issue with my G1? Or a software issue? All of the articles I have read about related problems say that it is a bad card, Which is why I am confused that a new card does not work as well.

Umm I think its a rom issue personally. Have you tried to wipe and reflash a different rom and try it? Or even reflash the same rom after a fresh wipe. Leave sd card formatted on fat 32 let the rom boot. Let it settle down. Then if everything seems ok. Then part sd. The reason why I'm saying this first is because I've had issues like this before. But at least try this so you can start to try and cancel things out.

Nexus One Thinks All SD Cards Are Blank

I'm having a weird problem with a Nexus One. It had a 2GB microSD card in it that seemed to go corrupt (all the file names went crazy) so I reformatted it and it happened again within minutes. So today I bought a new 8GB microSD card and and the Nexus now gives the error of "Blank SD Card - SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem." It is unable to format the card, but it doesn't give an error. I tried formatting the card to FAT32 on my computer, still the phone thinks it is blank/unsupported.
I'm hoping the SD slot isn't fried... any thoughts?
You could try reformating the SD card in a computer using SDformater with erase on.
I have the same problem for a few weeks now. My phone can't seem to read the sd card at all. Thought it was the sd card so I bought a new one, but problem remains. I know both cards work (have tested them in another phone and the computer reads them). I've tried formatting the card in the phone and reformatting with erase on using SDFormatter in my computer but my phone refuses to read it. Think it might be my sd slot as well...
Currently running CM 7.1.0. Haven't tried a factory reset or flashing another ROM (how would one go about doing that with no sd card?) as I'm not too keen to lose that data if I can help it.
Did you manage to fix it?
I was not able to fix it and after many hours of troubleshooting, so I gave up. Good luck to you, and please reply if you find a solution.

[Q] Cannot back up via CWM Recovery

I think It all started when I using linux to access the sdcard of my p970 2 days ago. I tried to rejected it safely but the computer said some error so I just unplug it anyway.
After that there are some unusual thing such as missing app.
Just then I found that the phone said "The sdcard is either empty or android cannot read this type of sdcard format..."
I used a card reader to check my sdcard but it is broken, so I do a quick format to it.
After that I want to do a clockworkmod recovery backup but it failed with a message
Waiting for SD card to mount (20s)
Waiting for SD card to mount (19s)
Waiting for SD card to mount (18s)
...
Waiting for SD card to mount (1s)
Cannot found SD card marker....
then it failed.
What should I do? I want to make a clean reinstallation.
try accessing to it by an usb adapter. copy datas if possible, then format. if you can't access to it at all, it means it's dead. if memory sectors become unreadable, it's dead.
I've borrowed my brother's sdcard...it works just fine.
So I guess the sd card is broken
In addition, when I checked it on the PC, I can do quick format successfully but the full format failed every time
be sure filesystem is fat32 and well partitionned (unique partition) . quick formating is enough.
if windows is dalaying the access to the card, it probably means the card is corrupted or dying
