I just got my new G1 from the insurance and I rooted, slapped on Cyanogen 3.6.8.1 rom and when i went to check my radio its still 1.22.12.29. What should i do to get the new radio on there without possibly bricking it.
Download the HTC radio .zip(which you can get at the HTC website)
Rename it to update.zip
Flash in recovery
Should be good to go
You won't brick your phone with the radio.
Upgrading your radio is recommended before upgrading to newer ROMs actually. Have a look in my signature for the latest Radio (should have a direct link). Download, rename to update.zip and put it on your SD card. Flash as normal and then see if it flashed sucessfully.

I had 3.6.8.1 build, tried to upgrade from modified launcher 7 to 8, got stuck at splash screen. I did (a million times now) RC29, root, RC33, but then when I try to flash JF1.51, 1.5, Cyanogen 3.6.8.1, 3.9.4, or Hero, it takes me to fastboot with Hard SPL and gets stuck on Splash with Special SPL.
Any advice?
P.S. JF1.41 RC33, ADP 1.1 (holiday updates included) and 1.42 RC33 all work, just not Rooted 1.5 ROMs. Flashed back to T-Mobile's 1.5.
Why are you flashing RC33 after you root your phone? This reflash of official release candidates is what is closing your root loophole...its like you never rooted in the first place. You should go rc29, root, then a custom ROM, you can never go back to anything official unless you are willing to loose your root.
Unless I'm misreading or misunderstanding you, that seems like your problem
The official update I flashed to see if it was 1.5 or the rooted ROMs that was having the affect. I re-rooted after to test but when I flash the custom ROMs after rooting I get stuck at fastboot (Hard SPL) or splash screen (Special SPL).
The only Custom ROMs I can flash successfully are the RC33 and ADP1.1. I hope that clears it up.
I just got a new G1 so hopefully this won't be an issue an longer.

I guess I'm just not understanding what your saying.... We may be talking in different jargon because the RC33 that I know of is the name of the release candidate of T-Mobile's official firmware prior to their 1.5 (cupcake) firmware upgrade.
I suspect that you are doing something wrong somewhere in the process because I see in your signature block that you have bricked two phones and it sounds like you are getting a new one again so perhaps we are on a 3rd brick?
You might want to head back to the beginning and read carefully the steps for rooting and installing "custom" roms. Again, there is nothing custom about RC33 or ADP1.1
its not a brick if he can access fastboot. Also he said he flashed Tmo 1.5 official so its not a brick. I suggest trying to root your phone again. You might be doing something wrong...
No one said he had a brick. I was simply commenting on how his signature says he has four phones, 2 bricks, 1 sold, and one presumably that he uses. Then in his response to my first comment, he said
I just got a new G1 so hopefully this won't be an issue an longer.

This led me to assume that that would be a fifth phone, ultimately leading me to conclude that he bricked two for sure and possibly a 3rd.
1. dreaimg.nbh
2. root
3. flash recovery 1.4
4. flash radio
5. flash spl
6. if using app2sd you'll need to have that partitioned SD card we all love to gab about
7. wipe your ext2 partition
8. WIPE YOUR PHONE! (most people forget this when they're startin out. use the recovery screen)
9. flash your rom
10. reboot

12. reboot again
13. flash theme
14. enjoy some more
running cyanogen 4.01, but i want to run one of the hero roms but i cannot for some unknown reason install the new spl. my question is does cyanogen have any hero roms or after numerous attempts how do i get the new spl.tried at least 3 different methods.
Do you have cyanogen's recovery image? If so, do not use the trackball to reboot the phone or even apply the spl, rename it to update.zip, then flash it with the keyboard commands, also do not go to the reocvery console to reboot, you must use home and back to reboot the phone or else the spl will not write. I have had this problem before and that is how i fixed it.
Cyan does not make any hero roms, what do you mean that you can not get the spl for it, do you also have the newest radio flashed, gotta give some more info
radio
i have 2.22.19.26I radio. if that is wrong then i just need to find the right one. and i will do that.
I believe that is the correct radio, so just follow david's solution then
I've been flipping through the threads to find out how I'm suppose to update the radio and still can't find anything.. Maybe it's because I'm an extreme noob when it comes to forums and software. Can anyone point me to the right direction?
P.S. What does updating the radio do? I've been curious about it since it seems like a plus to keep it up to date.
I have been looking for a how to for updating the radio. My main concern is that since I got the official OTA update, then rooted with Superboot, then installed Modaco's Desire rom will updating the radio as is brick my phone?
In one of these threads there will be a radio update.zip (check cyanogens thread, i think he hosts the latest radio on his forum)
before you put the radio on your phone, check the md5. If you are on linux, use furious ISO mount, if on windows, look it up on google how to.
Place the radio on your SD card ./ folder, then boot into recovery
Make sure you have plenty of battery, or are plugged in and charging.
Flash the radio from recovery and wait.
Alternatively you can place the radio.img (either downloaded by itself or take it out of the update.zip.) in your /sdk/tools folder and type "fastboot flash radio radio.img"
The very first stickied thread in the Development forum is called "Roms - Kernels - Radios *Links*" and it has links to .zip files that install from a hacked recovery. The Radio links are in the third post. Just use one of those.

If your recovery isn't hacked, you could just unzip one of those files and pull out the radio.img file, which you can then flash with fastboot.
Hello, looking to flash my Tilt 2 back to stock to bring it to my local AT&T location due to touch screen failure. Currently have Leo Energy Rom flashed; from what I am reading, it appears I have to use some sort of SPL Locker program flash first then flash a signed AT&T Rom?
Can someone lay out the steps for flashing back to stock so I can get this done as quickly as possible? I have 2.5 hours, thanks
i found some info here, if anyone can chime in with anything missing i'd appreciate it
how to reflash Stock/Shipped SPL - STEP BY STEP - FOR WARRANTY REASONS ONLY!
0. please make sure you already flashed stock ROM and radio, because stock SPL flash is *always* the last step before sending the device in.
1. download the Relocker attachment, extract the zip and run the EXE on your PC
2. if you wish to replace RUU_Signed.NBH that got extracted, feel free to do so, but not necessary (this Hard-SPL will only allow overwrite with a SPL signed by our custom cert). the included one is the 0.79.0000 stock SPL. you also have the option for 0.84.0000 and 0.87.0000, see the attachments.
3. flash
4. verify if it flashed by checking version in tricolour screen, it should say 0.79.0000 (or 0.84.0000 or 0.87.0000), not 0.85.OliNex.
About UPDATES:
-the last release (V2.00) added:
1. new SSPL binary, supporting more devices
2. fixes; this version will also tell you in future if you need an update for HardSPL
Thats the process as I understand it. I've never had to do it myself, but I've seen it discussed on here many times. Just flash the stock ROM, flash stock radio and re-lock SPL.
The shipped stock ROM may or may not already have the stock radio attached. Not sure, since the "new" official ATT ROM that was released a couple months ago had the radio included.
The stock radio on my Tilt2 was 4.48.25.20. Get it here if you need it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939
If you need the stock ROM, go over to shipped-roms.com to get it.

thanks for the links.. tried to flash an updated rom they released and a diff radio and the relocker wasnt working for some reason. will see how these two work
I was looking through the wiki on installing CyanogenMod and I noticed that you're supposed to flash a radio on your phone in the guide. Do I have to do this in ClockworkMod? I used regaw's hero rooter to root my hero, and it flashed Clockworkmod for me.
My baseband is currently 2.42.01.04.27, the one the guide mentioned is 2.42.02.10.29.
Does it matter if I flash a new radio to go along with this or can I just stick with the one I'm on now?

I don't actually know if you need to flash the radio, but if the wiki said so, you should. I've had that .29 radio since it came out, and the best info I can tell you is that the new radio gave me much better reception and therefore better battery life. Yes you can flash it in recovery, assuming you have the flashable zip, it shouldn't matter what recovery you have.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the newest CM7 and aospCMod do not support anything but the newest .29 radio. And as posted above, it will likely improve your signal, so upgrading would be beneficial anyway. Yes you should be able to flash it from any recovery.
Here's the post that contains the download for the newest .29 radio:
