SPL wont update - Solved - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I am using Cyanogen mod 1.3 recovery.
Have the latest Radio: 2.22.19.26I
I have been trying to install the latest SPL following the instructions here
everything goes fine but if i press the camera + home button, it still shows HSPL10.95.3000
Its driving me nuts..
what am i doing wrong??
Thanks B-man007 .. figured it out finally..
If you have Cyanogen mod 1.3 recovery,
use the following steps :
IF YOU HAVE TWO MICRO SD CARDS:
1. Download the SPL
2. Upload the new SPL on one microSD card and name it "update.zip" and upload the update file of the build that you are currently using on the other microSD card and name it "update.zip"
3. Put the microSD with the SPL update in your phone and reboot to recovery mode.
4. THIS IS IMPORTANT (perform a nandroid backup, of course) Apply the update, and once complete DON'T DO ANYTHING.. read step 5.
5. WITHOUT PRESSING ANY BUTTONS remove your microSD card from your phone and place the other microSD card in it.
6. Press home + back to reboot. you should get a small animation showing the SPL update
7. If you boot up in recovery, you have done everything correctly. Now apply the update, reboot, and you're done.
IF YOU HAVE ONE SD CARD:
1. Upload new SPL on your microSD and rename to "update.zip"
2. Reboot your phone into recovery mode.
3. THIS IS IMPORTANT (perform a nandroid backup, of course) Apply the update, and once complete DON'T DO ANYTHING.. read step 4.
4. WITHOUT PRESSING ANY BUTTONS remove your microSD card from your phone, and plug it into your microSD card adapter/SD card reader
5. Remove/rename the SPL update (to something other than "update.zip") and upload the update file of the build you are currently using onto your microSD card. Put your microSD card back in your phone AGAIN WITHOUT PUSHING ANY BUTTONS
6. Press home + back to reboot. you should get a small animation showing the SPL update
7. If you boot up in recovery, you have done everything correctly. Now apply the update, reboot, and you're done.
edit : updated info

When unrooting, bootloader is saying "no image found"...

I am following these instructions to bring my phone back to stock, before I send it in for a replacement (Alt key isn't working):
1. get the original SPL for your phone, go to the SPL thread at the top
2. rename it to update.zip and flash it to your phone
3. download the DREAIMG.nbh from the thread where you rooted your phone
4. place DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your SD card and start phone in bootloader(camera+power)
5. hit power to start the update DO NOT INTERRUPT!! i can not stress this enough
6. hit action(trackball down) and your phone will reboot
7. YOU NOW HAVE STOCK FIRMWARE, it will update on it's own in a little bit
I downloaded G1OrigBootloader_nocheck.zip, copied it to my SD card, renamed it to "update.zip", turned the phone off, powered up holding HOME and POWER and then pressed ALT+W for wipe and then ALT+S to apply the update. So far, so good.
Then I deleted update.zip from the SD card and moved DREAIMG.nbh onto it. I powered off the phone, then pressed the camera button and power. It has the white screen with the blue text "Loading..." and then the screen briefly flashes with "No image file!" before going to the bootloader screen.
Help! I don't know what to do next. Many thanks!
ETA: Should I install the DREAIMG.nbh *before* installing the stock SPL?
ETA 2: I formatted my SD Card just for grins (I could swear I had done that before) and now it's working fine. So. For anyone else who gets the No Image File error, try formatting your SD Card and then transferring files. Also, I re-downloaded the DREAIMG.nbh file so it might've even been that which fixed it. At any rate, I no longer need assistance and I don't know how to delete a post. I'm assuming you can't.
In case anyone else comes across this thread while having this problem...
I had the same problem with my Rhodium. The problem disappeared when I switched from formatting that particular SD card with FAT to FAT32.
So, try FAT32 and see if that helps!

Yup^ android cant read fat partitions.
Also why do you want to unroot?
I was helping a friend unroot for a warranty return and I encountered this problem. While I realized that it was a simple, and some what dumb typograpghical error in my case. Have you checked, and I mean really checked the filename? I realized that I had a space in between the "G" and the "." (DREAIMG .nbh, rather than DREAIMG.nbh) I have the RC29 and RC30 .nbh images backed up on my home computer for just such purposes and I have them labeled accordingly (example: DREAIMG RC29.nbh). So when I went use it, I copied the file, edited the name, and forgot to take the space out. It therefore displayed no image for me as well. Just something simple to check.

CM 4.2.4 upgrade issue

Hi team,
Having some trouble rooting my g1 and upgrading to CM 4.2.4
I have been following a tutorial from here: http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-root-a-t-mobile-g1-and-mytouch-3g-android-phone/
... to achieve my goal. Followed all of the steps fine and to a tee. Installed all of the suggested files from the suggested places.
Succesfully upgraded the radio image, then moved onto upgrading the SPL. Ran through and rebooted phone, until the never ending "Formatting Cache" notice came up on the automatic boot into the Recovery Mode.
(FYI: radio and SPL images were from http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/)
Moved on to installing CM 4.2.4 after realising that the format was complete... Alt-W then Install from zip. Installed CM. Waited for prompt for completion... pressed reboot... then the boot hangs on the G1 startup screen.
Only way I could get out was to remove the battery. Went through the process again (Alt-W, SPL install, reboot, Alt-W, CM install, reboot, hang) numerous times, all with the same outcome.
Only thing that I can think of that I am doing wrong is pulled straight from CyanogenMod Wiki explanation: "I've noticed on some devices that when you fresh install the first time and you update with the rooted adp package from htc, reboot and then update to latest CM, some people get stuck at the tmobile logo. What I did was install the rooted adp package from htc, reboot and sign in all the way to home screen, then rebooted and installed the latest CM. That should get you past the first screen freeze if it happens to you."
As I am a noob, I have been unable to try this for the following reasons: 1. Where can I find the HTC rooted adp? and 2. How do I get this image onto the SD card when I can't boot in? I have tried without booting and my computer won't let me access via USB...
I was going through the process from factory settings. Is this my problem... Very confusing.
Realise that there are currently two active threads running in this section that are similar... but these guys seem to have done the wrong thing and are trying to right the ship... I can't seem to figure where I've gone wrong.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
As well: could booting with camera + power get me into the Dreaming.nbh OS to get HTC root OS onto the SD card?
http://developer.htc.com/adp.html
Download the 1.6 recovery image. It is actually the 1.6 Android Dev Phone ROM, flash that via recovery console... then flash the cm update. Make sure you wipe before you start flashing.
As well, do you have your SD card partitioned? It would be a good idea to do that as well. Two ways to do it, manually, or download and update to RA's recovery image 1.2.3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
I would update to that recovery first, use the option to part my SD card, upgrade to ext3, wipe, flash 1.6 recovery, flash cm update, good to go!
Thanks for the quick reply! Very handy info... How do I get the images onto my SD card without being able to boot though?
Do you have another device like a camera, or mp3 player that can take a microsd? If so just hook it up and transfer.. otherwise you may need some additional devices.. I bought an adapter so my sd can plug directly into a usb.. other than those couple options, I haven't any more suggestions to offer ya. If you cant get past the boot screen to mount, I don't see how you can do it through your G1.. there might be some terminal commands you can try to mount to a computer.. but that's beyond me.

You take it out of the phone, while the battery is pulled, put it in an micro SD card reader, plug that into your computer, tada! If you computer doesn't have a slot for the standard SD card adapter, you can get microSD to USB adaptors most everywhere that sells electronics.
Or if you have cyan's recovery installed... you can hold Home+power
go to console, press enter and type
ums_enable
Click to collapse
and it will mount the sd on your pc.....
put ums_disable to unmount
Sorry to be a noob, but what benefit does partitioning do?
If you have an EXT3 partition, you will have app2sd. If you also have a linux-swap partition, you will be able to have a swap file (in simple terms its like adding more ram)
The ext partition is for apps2sd, and the Linux-swap partition is to give a little extra memory for the ROM.
Thanks for all of your help lads! Up and running. Muchly appreciated!

Flashed using the micro sd card..its much safer and faster...
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the Rhodium Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to RHODIMG.nbh
4. Copy the RHODIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Enter the BootLoader screen, Hold volume down and press the reset button, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.

Can we flash from an sd card on the Blackstone?

I looked and can not find things mentioning via sd card only via PC. If I am wrong, I am sorry but I didn't find it. Could you attach a link to where it mentions it? What do I name the .nbh?
Yes you can, the image needs to be called BLACIMG.NBH
and you need hspl on youre phone and the mem formatted to fat 32:-o

I just received it today from ebay, does this seem to be already for me to flash it?
It has 6.1 installed
Bootloader screen says
BLAC100 32M
SPL-1.56.OliNex
MicroP-BlackStone (LED) v6
Bootloader says "No Image File"
I have the BLACIMG.nbh file on my 1GB card and it's not loading it. I have done it the same way on my HTC Jade multiple times with the same sd card.
I TRIED WITH ANOTHER ROM AND IT WORKED JUST FINE. I don't know what was wrong with the other one but Thanks for everyone's help.
I'm afraid you're not following the right procedure. This should do the job.
1. Copy BLACIMG.NBH into the root dir of your Storage Card.
2. Be sure to have at least 30% of charge.
3. Turn off your device . Fully power the device off by long press of power key.
4. Go to bootloader mode. Push and hold Vol Down + press Power button.
5. As soon as presented the message, push Power button to start flashing or Volume Down button to cancel.
6. The whole procedure will take about 3 minutes. After you finish and see the relative message, soft reset your device, you are ready.
Make sure you formatted your sd-card.
To enter Bootloader, starting from powered off phone, hold down volumebutton and briefly press powerbutton.
You can also always use the "search" funtion on the forum startpage. Topbar (brown) on the right side.
It's recommendable to hardreset your device after flashing.
Good luck.

I got it to work just fine I used another ROM and it worked just fine. I have also had success with my JADE with no problem. I edited the post before stating what I did to get it to load successfully. Thank You for the assistance though, that is a easy step by step tutorial of how to perform the flash from sd.

[Q] I have done the impossible, bricked the color nook

I received the color nook a couple of days ago, got the home wifi connected, registered to B&N, updated to 1.1, rooted it easily with autonooter and added some apps. All good. But I decided I needed to delete some apps, and couldnt do so without a file management system of sorts. So, I followed the directions on this youtube
(I also used this guy's work for the root) and all went according to plan. Until I rebooted and tried to register. I am stuck on the reregister, it spins and spins and goes nowhere. My computer wont recognise it as a nook, let alone a drive so I cant even sideload the update. My wifi is fine. I have rebooted with the 8 times method many many times. Nada.
I did see elsewhere that when unrooting you should unroot first, and then deregister and wipe clean. This is the opposite of what the youtube said to do. I see on the postings that several others have had the same problem but huskermania has not responded. hellpppp
So it's not re-registering? I've never experienced that. You for sure haven't bricked it, as it got that far.
Try this:
1) Download the 128mb bootable CWR. (http://legacyschool.us.to/nookdev/clockwork/cwm_128mb.tar.gz)
(Credit: thecubed)
2) Burn it to a 2GB+ card using Win32DiskImager.
(Disk imager download: http://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/0.1/0.1/+download/win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.1-r15-win32.zip )
3) Download the stock 1.1.0 firmware here: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nookcolor-support-software-update/379002520/?cds2Pid=35758#2
4) Drag the .zip you downloaded from B&N onto the SD card.
5) Turn off the Nook
6) Insert the SD Card
7) Turn on the Nook. It should boot into recovery automatically.
8) Install from .zip
9) Select the stock 1.1.0 firmware.
After it is done installing, remove the SD from the Nook and reboot. You should now be in stock 1.1.0. (And able to register.)
Oh gosh, after five hours of frustration, this fixed it!
the nook devs came to my rescue, I cant post links yet as I am a newbie!
Thankyou thankyou thankyou!
huskermania, your rooting the nook youtube was brilliant, but I see lots of others had this problem using the unroot youtube. I will post the fixit on that too, I am not allowed to post it here until I am an oldie.
What did they tell you to do? How did you fix it?
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945838
Download the image
Install Winimage
Run winimage as admin
Go to Disk->Restore virtual disk image
Select your micro SD card reader
Select the downloaded image
wait
Turn off nook color(hold pwr button, it may take 20+ seconds)
Insert newly imaged micro SD card
Turn nook on
Go to mounts and storage
Format system/data/boot (it may lockup after formating the boot partition it's Ok just hard reset it)
Now go to flash zip from SD card
Select from SD card
It should flash stock 1.1.0 onto your nook
Once done remove micro SD card and reboot.
That should get you to an 'out of the box' state.
Good luck. Hope this works out for ya.

Didn't even see that. =P Avoids having to go to 1.0.1 and then updating to 1.1.0
I have been a little stressed by all this, I spent three hours last night trying to fix it, and then another two this morning. The bottom line was doing this:
1. With the NOOKcolor powered off hold down the n button (home) and Power Button until the NOOKcolor powers on.
2. You will be prompted with a Factory Reset dialog.
Press POWER key to Exit
Press HOME key to continue
3. Press n button (home).
4. You will be prompted to confirm.
Press POWER key to Exit
Press HOME key to continue
5. Press n button (home).
6. A Clearing Data dialog will show. NOOKcolor will reboot automatically once complete.
I was thinking that I could use your method woot, and was about to do this when it all came good using the method. I love the root, and will do it again. I have no idea what went wrong for me, and a few others by the looks.
Thankyou once again both of you, and maybe my thread might help others. I had done so many google searches, 8 turn offs, etc etc and nothing would do it for me.
How do you get it to boot from the SD card when the power button isn't doing it? I can push on the power button all day long and nothing at all is happening.
Edit: Never mind, it suddenly decided that it wanted to work. I think I might have a faulty power button.
