so I forgot how to set up the folders in my SD card to make my own notification/ringtones/alarm rings. does anyone remember? thanks!
I'm pretty sure that if you run a search you'll find it...
However you just need to make a "media" folder on the root of your SD Card, then an "audio" one. Then you can dump the rest of your files there in folders, like alarms, notifications etc.
EDIT: If this answers your question could you please put in [SOLVED] in the title of the post so people know/it can be closed. Thanks.

yup. i remember when all i had to do was just create a folder in the root of sd and would show up...but i guess now i have to do media -> audio ->notification/ring tone. thaank you.
No worries. I remember when I first got my G1 I was wondering why it wasn't working as well, all before the craze of rooting and that was available. I think even in the G1 manual it states that you needed to create folders for it to pick up. Its a long time ago though since I last looked at it!

Copy them all to "My documents\my music" on your phone
ok so i have done that....and it shows up in the options to choose as ringtone but not for any other options...like text message or mms or email...am i doing something wrong or those just can not have ringtones as there notification sound
are the .mp3? try to convert them to .wav for notifications other than ringtones. i've noticed that it varies by rom whether it would take a wav or an mp3 as a notification.
Hi guys,
I had my kaiser for about a month but I've never tried to change ringer until now.
Of course I'd like to use an MP3 ringer, but I wasn't able to choose a file from the SD card... I had to copy the file to the ring directory on the phone memory.
I'm sure there is another way to do it, but how??
Ah, well, I've actually used the search button, but it comes out with hundreds of ROM posts and I got lost...
Thanks for helping.

No there are certain files related to the day to day operation of the phone that would confuse the phone if they were missing, the ringtone is one of them.
You can store your ringtones on your card, but to use them they must be in the windows folder in your device memory.
By the way Welcome to the Forum. Read much and explore there is a lot to learn here.

Thank you. It's what I'm doing and so far I think this is one of the best forums I've EVER read.
i just got the tilt/kaiser also. i tried to copy the song into the windows directory of the phone and i also tried the "set as ringtone" option but it didn't work. any ideas?
\Storage Card\My Documents\My Ringtones\
And if you are running a stock AT&T ROM, then you also need to edit the registry.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds]
"FileSizeLimit"=0
hey guys.
Just a simple request to those who you have the time to do so.
I recently installed Gtrab's W4X WM6.5 Cooked Rom but didn't realise it had a lot of the ringtones included with the xperia missing.
I've searched the forums and found the odd file containing ringtones taken from handsets but they are different tones.
Could you please copy and zip all the ringtones from the Windows folder from a default Xperia rom and upload it to the internet for me please
Cheers,
Hyped
I need them too. can somebody please post them?
Thank you
Press me softly....
Thank you for your help, however, unfortunately, these are not the ringtones I need.
I'm not sure where they're saved but there are some ringtones called like Alarm1, Alarm2, Alarm3 and such. And it's in this location I need the ringtones. I think they are scattered throughout the Windows folder admist the system files.
So, could you possible collect and zip these please

Extract the rar file on your computer, connect device via active sync, once syncing click "explore" and your my documents folder should be visible, move the extracted mp3 ringtones to this folder. Hope that helps
Thx
But does anybody have also the ringtones for sms ?
There is one ringtone, i really miss on the ROMĀ“s, but i do not remember the name
Its gonna be difficult if you don't have the name. I used dreamland on the stock rom.

I flashed energy rom so i don't have the stock ones at hand
There is a thread or two around here somewhere with a link to all the OEM ringtones / sounds etc. I'm not sure what it was titled though.
It was a rar file and nearly 38mB in size.
:edit Found it. I used the top secret 'Search' button. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=526164

It's in the right place. Why don't you make your own notifications with Ringdroid.
in your sd card, make a folder called media and within that folder, make another folder called audio and within that folder, make a folder called notifications and NEXT to that folder, make a folder called ringtones (so you'll have two folders inside of your audio folder) now you can just drag any mp3 into those two folders and the android OS will do the rest. there are many programs online that let you make clips of songs etc. or you can try the FREE app Ringdroid from the market.
Awwhhh MAN ! Both you guys rock. Thanks a bunch!
I'm confused on this one. Today I went to change my ringtone for my text messages and to my surprise I have 2 ringtones for each type. They both work and are both the exact same as the other with its name. Recently I flashed a new bootscreen and the only thing I could think of is this contained media files which flashed as well. But then I am confused why they didn't simply overwrite. I went into my file explorer and navigated to system/media to see if potentially I had two ringtone folders in there, or maybe even just duplicates of each one, but no dice. Its not a huge issue, as I'm sure even if they are doubled up in my memory it can't take up that much space, however knowing they are there is bothering me and I dont wanna start over just because of this lol
I am debating trying to delete the system/media/ringtones folder through adb and seeing what happens. Is there another place a second copy of these bad boys might be hiding out? Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks
EDIT: I just double checked my bootscreen which I flashed and it doesn't contain any of those files. (Didn't think it would, but I'm outta ideas)
EDIT2: Ah HA! Thought I would post that I have found a solution for anyone else who might be interested.. I simply pulled all the notifications/ringtones.. deleted them off the phone.. rebooted.. repushed.. bingo.
