Problem wit Internet Sharing Program - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

When I plug in my USB cable my phone used to give me the option of Activsync, disc drive, and Internet Sharing and one day by mistake I selected Internet Sharing and now everytime I plug in my USB cable it opens up Internet Sharing. So is there anyway to stop it from doing this and giving me back the selection?
Thanks in Advance for any insight on this

I have had this problem many, many times.
What I try first is, instead of closing Internet Sharing after plugging it in, just leave it open and unplug your phone before closing it. Sometimes, for some reason, that seemed to do the trick.
If that doesn't work, go to:
Settings > System > USB Settings
And uncheck "Enable faster data synchronization"

This is only a temporary fix, if you need to get ActiveSync working. Well, you can leave it like that forever if you want. Other than this fix, I'm not sure how to solve the issue. Usually I would just deal with it until I decided to flash again.. then uncheck that box, get ActiveSync running, and flash. After the flash, it would be working fine again (until it decided to get stuck on Internet Sharing again).
So, I try to stay away from Internet Sharing if I can. One alternative now is the HTC Wifi-sharing/Router app for your TP. It's pretty sweet, but pretty heavy on the battery, I'm sure.. and I noticed my phone got pretty warm after like 20 minutes of using that app (which is expected).

Fix activesync
Go to ---- setting connections/USB to PC
Under activesync, uncheck enabled advanced mode funtionality.

No problem. Usually I don't have an answer to questions on here but this time I did (or thought so) so I decided to chime in.
No kidding, the HTC Wifi-sharing app is sweet! I didn't even know our phones had that capability (to OUTput wifi.... hmm..) and so I was very pleasantly surprised when I found out about it. Very useful and sweet app.

the problem is that you are closing out the program without disconnecting. i have hard reset a million times with this problem, until i figured this out
all you have to do is plug in your phone. click connect when internet sharing opens. let it connect, then tap disconnect. then close out internet sharing, unplug your phone.
in the future when your done with internet sharing, tap disconnect, close internet sharing THEN disconnect your phone

Or....
settings/system/usb settings/[check: ask me first about USB connection type when I connect the device to PC]
This way you choose the connection.

No. This is already selected by default, and the OP and I (along with others, I'm sure) still experience the issue when it's already selected. Unchecking the box, applying, and rechecking the box still doesn't work (in my experience).

Yeah, I know. I just get frustrated sometimes when some people suggest the most obvious "fixes" (like checking the box to ask what to do when connected to USB) when the said obvious "fix" doesn't work. lol
Thanks for your post, btw.

FWIW, that is not a cure-all. I had the same problem and, just in general troubleshooting, followed the steps you describe two or three times at least with no success. For some reason, though, manually changing the state of the registry key that holds the state of that checkbox (it's in HKLM\Software\OEM\USBtoPC, the key name is obvious but it escapes me at the moment) is what worked for me. I had to disable the popup and then re-enable it, and I was back in business...

There is no standard for alphanumeric entry for a WEP key.
Input the hex. Or change to WPA. WEP is completely useless.
My router only does WEP
even putting in the hex of the paraphrase won't let it connect
You can use an ascii wep key but it has to be 13 characters for a 128bit key. What it sounds like is you are using a linksys or other type of router that lets you type in a "passphrase" using their software and it will generate a real key in the background.
You need to not use that passphrase and type in your own hex/ascii key by hand
13 ascii characters or 26 hex characters
tried putting in the long HEX key. still says its the wrong one the lappy and PSP allow a paraphrase to e put in and connect OK why won't the bloody phone
Make sure you've turned on all the secure handshake protocols.
Try setting a new WEP key on your router (in hex 0-9, A-F), then try to connect again.
How is WEP completely useless? Yes it can be cracked but it's still there as a deterent. Duh
Go to your wireless lan settings, hit the power mode tab and crank it all the way up on the best performance side. Don't argue.. Just try it..
Thanks.

On the phone. Just save your old key in case it doesn't work. If it does work, then you'll have to change them (shouldn't take to long)
OK
the original WEP key on the router was aa12345678bbb typed this into phone but it was saying this was wrong
tried putting in the HEX version of this key, 61613132333435363738626262 no connection
set up the router with a new HEX key
0x624227497c4a5a4a2972674953
Put this in the phone says its to long, removed the 0x and it says its the wrong key.
Autenthication: Open

Phone: Helloworldxxx
Nothing on any of them combs
The router needs 0x48656c6c6f776f726c64787878 the phone says its to long with the 0x
There is a setting on the router to use 802.1x/WPA could I use this ?
OK I removed all security from the router leaving the network open and no key needed, the phone still wouldn't connect All I got was a millisecond of some error message, not enough to see what it said.
I think the problem is with the phone sorfware or something. Is there any 3rd part software I could try ?
Thanks

Deterrent similar to putting a twisty tie on your front door so nobody walks inside to rob your house... It can be cracked in <3 minutes. Useless. Better than open. Don't confuse the two.

Are you crazy? Yes it can be cracked that fast but only by people that know how and have a reason. The average person can't do it and it keeps them off your network. You can lock your front door but if someone knows how to jimmy that lock then they can probley have the door open in a matter of seconds.
geez. It is a deterent, I didn't say it was a true road block.

Wireless Tether Connect Issue

I installed the wireless tethering app today and decided to play with it for the heck of it, I was able to set it up, and when I went to my laptop and hit refresh I was able to see the network, I then tried to connect and it would not connect, as it said something about a 13 key ascii so I checked to see and checked the password and still could not connect got the same error message, I then decided to disable the encryption and then refresh the network and tried to connect again, I was able to connect but was not able to open a page up, now I don't know if that was because my reception was not great but still would not open a web page, any suggestions, another note, it rebooted the phone about 3 times and froze the phone once, I am on the AOSP Mod ROM V 0.9.7. just curious if it was with this Rom or the CM6 one, any input would be great, just want it as a backup incase of in a bind.

Hey Don -
There are few issue's Popping up with the .7 build - Didn't see wireless tether as one.
But report it to AOSP -
It worked WONDERFUL on the .6 build
If you have a bad signal, it will affect wireless tether performance. Also, ensure that you have your mobile network on or it will not work.
Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo-on-Hero action here!
Update, I finally got Barnacle to work last night, the set up instructions was missing one specific step, in the custom WiFi AD-hoc, you need to set it to Hero, all worked fine so far, not fast but it work,
Barnacle Wifi Tethering setup for HTC Hero
Barnacle Wifi Tethering setup for HTC Hero WiFi Tethering using Barnacle Android App
1. Download Barnacle from the market and open it.
2. Navigate to Settings and SSID to name your network
3. Then navigate into Wireless Security, then enable WEP and choose a password. 5 to 13 Characters
4. Go into WiFi AD- Hoc and change that to Hero
4. Now go into both Wan and LAN and clear out all information.
5. Hit the back arrow soft key and tap “Start”.
6. Wifi tethering is completed successfully. Enjoy your free WiFi Hotspot!
Now if it does not ask you for a password when you login with your PC, I would suggest to try to set up the network with your PC, and then when you connect with your PC it should login you in with the password
Hope this helps, I edited this C&P and added a couple of steps, enjoy everyone

Fail
I tried to use Barnacle with my Hero to connect to my GTab but the Hero/Barnacle keeps switching the wifi on and off about every 10 seconds, it shows up on the GTab but cycles back off before the tablet can obtain an ip address. Barnacle crashes my Hero and I have to pull the battery to reboot. I have tried everything but can not get this Hero to act as a hotspot. Barnacle is the closest I've come to actually having a working tether for my tablet. VERY frustrating.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks - Terry

I use easy tether. I mean it cost like 10 bucks but I've used it for close to a year and its always fast and reliable. Might wanna check it out. And I've used it on every rom I've flashed always works. Just a little info.

What about Android OS?
I took a look at EasyTether but it uses a client program that you have to install on the tethered machine. ET supports Win, Mac ODx, and Unbuntu or Fedora. No mention of an Android client...
Well you have me puzzled??? Because I use it like at least 4 or 5 times a week??? Even updated my guys desktop with it. Im running CM6.2 187 With dec's # 589/768. I've also used it on a lot of roms. So can you be more specific???? As in no android client. I think you mean like if your running a tablet or no.???

Got it!
Well, all's well that ends well, right?
I found an app named "Wireless Tether for Root Users" and Bingo! It's working. The other apps I tried would crash and burn, the best one was Barnacle but every time I tried to tether it would cycle on and off until it rebooted the phone or locked up. I would get 3 or 4 errors in the log every time. I tried every setting but could not get it to work properly. Finally I came across "WTRU" and it ran with no errors and I was able to connect to my Viewsonic G Tablet, wooo, what a ordeal. The only thing I can figure is there is something goofy with my Hero.
Now if I can figure out how to share my GPS location I can use Google Maps with Navigation on my 10" Tablet!
Thanks for the interest in my problem. - Terry

[Q] wifi

how to set up a wifi connection on a g1
Setup Wifi
You mean, setup the phone to connect to a WIFI spot?
Settings - >
Wireless & Networks -> (Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on, the tick-box on the right is enabled)
Wi-Fi Settings
Select your Desired Wi-fi Network in range.. if its protected it will ask you for the password.
I'm having the same problem without wifi browsing.
Acquired a week Hi my HTC Dream G1, but he can not surf using WiFi, it finds the wifi networks, although not connected browsing. Using 3G it navigates well. One guy said you need a driver responsible for so called version of Laszlo. Does anyone have this program or know what's wrong?
I can't connect either, are you running cm6?
have you checked your router
MAC filtering ?
Static IP addresses ?
used it a laptop? experiment at a time with the settings
If you cannot connect to wifi, but it sees the networks, typically it is a router setting. Make sure that you don't have WPA/WPA2 Personal enabled, either choose one or the other on the router. This does not cause problems for ALL phones, but it has been known to be a common issue.

Yes. The only options I have are Wireless settings, and the only options I have under Wireless settings are Mobile network settings, and they consist of just these:
Data Roaming (chkbox); Use only 2G networks (chkbox); Network operators;, and Access Point Names. I just did a hard reset & it wants me to login to or create a google account (stupid google phones!), and I don't have cell service - it says WiFi is a feature of this phone in the manual & the TMobile guy says I should be able to connect to my home DSL with this thing.
I assume there's no way to create a (complicated!) Access Point name that will allow me to access my DSL?
Thank you for your reply!
The setting is there, but in the very earliest versions of android you needed to sign in with a data plan only
Do you know what version of android do you have installed?
There are ways to bypass the login either with root (changing ROMs) or downgrading to android 1.0
The simple fix is just put in a T-Mobile sim card with data plan, sign in, then turn WiFi on and remove sim card
You can search xda g1 threads for "bypass login" for various methods or if you can't find let me know and I'll link you
Haven't had any luck bypassing login (& yet to find someone w/ a sim card I can use)
''... if you can't find'','' let me know and I'll link you.'' Please help! Thanks...

Maybe it's because I need an original Htc usb cable that's square on the left side?
I was going to get one when someone told me that for charging purposes(which was all I was after at the time), a regular angled-on-both-sides Usb cable would do the trick, & I've been using that... (I was originally having problems getting
HTC's weird-looking one). Thanks!
Please come back, Demkantor!

Got the right cable (had to get it from Asia!), now just trying to find the right driver to get the phone to connect properly with PC (detects it, but I get the old yellow exclamation point in device mgr no matter what I do (XP).
Well good were most the way there
If I remember correct the drivers I used came from the android SDK, its hard to say for sure though but I was using xp when I first got my g1
Try uninstalling any driver that comes up when you first plug in the phone, windows may have picked the wrong one for you
This is kinda where I'm at... tried every driver I can find...

Chromecast not showing up on PC?

So I purchased a Chromecast yesterday and set up was perfect. I set it up using my Macbook Pro though, which of course was connected through WiFi.. I can stream to it fine from that macbook pro, my iPhones, iPads, etc, but I can not stream to it from my desktop PC which is plugged directly into my N600 Router? I have installed the Chromecast Extension and everything but when I click on it, it says No Cast Devices Found...
Anyone know why? I haven't really messed with the router settings but could it be something wrong there?
I have a similar problem. Would like to find a solution.

We really need a FAQ, 'cause this is about 15% of the posts here.
You need to, on your router, disable the block between devices seeing eachother, or between wireless seeing the wired side, etc.
It might be "isolation", or require toggling the IGMP setting, or whatever else it is or isn't your router doing, but that is where to look. Check it's settings, review it's help files, there you'll find the answer for your brand/model/version router.

Well, I talked to Netgear about the issue and they said they didn't even know what a Chromecast was.. I finally got them to understand what it was and what it does and we looked over all the settings on my N600 which were all correct.. We even reset the router to factory just to see and nothing..
After getting off the phone with them, I decided to try reinstalling the drivers for my built in Nvidia Network card. I went to device manager, deleted my network card, rebooted windows, it reinstalled the default drivers for it and waalaa that fixed it.
So as to the 15%, it may not be your router, it could also be your built in nic card or even your firewall/antivirus
You can NOT use the desktop application on a wired connection. The browser plug-in should work without a problem, allowing you to use the device normally.
The desktop app is only really used for initial setup/maintenance. It requires you to be on wireless because initial setup relies on a temporary ad-hoc connection being established.
Glad you got it to work.. I am little bit concerned that it is perhaps an incompatibility with certain WiFi adapters since in my case I am using two different windows installations on the same computer(thus different drivers, antivirus etc..). That said the computer worked fine for the initial chromecast setup, just not with the extension.

I had this problem yesterday, i just unplugged the power from the CC and plugged it back in and that cleared it up.
Now this seems like it makes sense. I can ping between all devices but just because pinging can make it doesn't necessarily mean that the ports necessary for Casting can make it.
I have Verizon FiOS. Here's a screenshot of the only IGMP settings on the entire thing. I'm sure what's supposed to be on or off or whatever. If anyone has any insight - please do share.

I struggled for hours trying to figure this out. I even nuked my Chrome installation.

PERFECT.
Thanks Omega for the direction here.
To clarify, those of you who have Chromecast working properly on other devices but cannot connect through a WIRED/ETHERNET pc, you should look in your router settings for anything relating to IGMP and DISABLE it.
After disabling, I rebooted my router. Once Chromecast reconnected my Chrome browser saw the Chromecast device and could cast perfectly.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

No problem, thank you for pointing it out. I was almost positive it wasn't the router because I found sources where it said that the Verizon Actiontech routers didn't have AP Isolation or didn't support it or whatever. I was so fixated on my Chrome installation after that because I've been having Remote Desktop issues which I thought might have been running off a similar service that Chromecast did or something weird like that.
Works like a charm now.

Getting lots of wifi notifications, can't stop them

Hi all - I've searched everywhere but cannot find an answer, would be grateful for any suggestions.
I have a New Zealand Note 9 from 2degrees and since getting it a few weeks ago have been getting a strange sound notification which is somehow related to wifi. It occurs when I come home and when out and about and seems to be due to something like the presence of open wifi connections or maybe something to do with wifi calling. Its an odd sound as well, 4-5 robotic notes and its not one of the notification sounds that you can choose from.
Things I've tried from looking at multiple forums:
NFC and bluetooth off
Accessibility notification off
Reset all notifications settings
The main solution seems I've seen is to turn off the setting "notify me when wifi is available or connected" in the wifi advanced settings, but I do not have this option.

If you go to Apps then click the three dots at the top right hand corner and show system apps. The select "android system". There is plenty of network notification options there to try.

Two things you can do
1. if rooted you can use an xposed module to disable notifications for that
2. other way is you can use app quarantine pro or greenify or some other app to freeze "settings" which blocks the wifi popup, although I'm not sure if that works for your android version but it does work for mine which is kitkat and s5... still might work on new devices
Thanks Limey - had already done that.
Great suggestions zxzxzx......will try those apps and if not successful will root. Was on the fence about rooting but it looks like this may work and the phone is driving me mad.
Also, Pie update is due any day in New Zealand, maybe that will fix it.
Cheers SH
Hi all
Thanks again for the suggestions. It's driving me mad and I may well sell the phone and take a hit.
One more clue...it seems to happen a minute or so after I use the phone, turn it off and then start walking around. Don't think it is location services as does it with location off. And don't think it is when it finds open wifi networks as it happens when in the middle of nowhere and no wifi nearby. Happens nearly every time I go from home office to lounge. Happens with BT, NFC, data roaming all off.
Factory reset did not help, happened straight away, even with no new apps installed.
Could it be related to wifi calling somehow? I need this feature though as have little cell coverage at home. No options to change any wifi calling settings though, other than on and off.
Cheers SH
