Is this something to do with custom builds or do I have other issues? Ever since I started using non-stock firmware network location nearly always fails. It worked briefly once but since I don't live in Germany I'm going to guess something is up. I've found no similar threads or questions on it so it probably isn't a common issue. I could go to stock firmware to find out but that seems a little bit too much hassle for such a simple thing.
I hate to bump this but so many topics on a daily basis and I don't think I'll be the only one to get this. On stock firmware the network location isn't too far wrong but with any custom firmware, Hero, Cyanogen etc, it's a good 3km off whereas it used to be around 1km at the most. It isn't a HUGE issue but for price comparisons searching local or other location based things like Google places it helps a lot to be at least somewhat near. Frankfurt is not even the same country but it seems to come up quite a lot as the location via network. Does anyone have an idea why it's so bad?

I have been searching the forums for 2 weeks and have found many people with this very same issue but no concrete solutions. I have flashed multiple ROMs, builds, radios, and spl. I had mostly been using Energy series ROMs when around 2 weeks ago after an update flash my location service was disabled. I have tested and tweaked everything I can at this point and no setting will allow my location service to work. It is very annoying as I use google maps a lot and without it, one cannot even use GPS. IF there is anyone that can solve this issue for the many of use with this problem, It would be greatly appreciated. In fact, I would be more than willing to buy them a couple of beers. I posted this here because it seems the issue is present within all of the ROMs. I have had 8 HTC WinMo devices all the way back to TMob MDA and this is easily the most frustrated I have been.
Thank you all so much for your help.
if u have seen ppl with same issue, u could have asked in those threads rather than opening a brand new one. and i doubt u searched properly, "my location" problem is not because of ROMs but google's location service which doesnt work for some places.
Hi! I hope to write in the right area, but if not I ask someone to move my post in the right one.
Now I have a HTC Diamond device, but I've to change it for a GalaxyS or an iPhone4.
I would like to buy a GalaxyS device, but I read many posts about bugs, lags, gps problems, so I wonder if it is a great choice this GalaxyS.
I like android and all the development opportunities around it (thanks to XDA), but it seems to be not so stable yet...
I flashed many ROMS on my Diamond in the past, so it's not a problem to do the same for my GalaxyS, but problems are fixed? The GPS works fine? Maybe not...
Maybe with Froyo 2.2?
iPhone4 is not so open as an Android device, but it's a very stable device!
What do you think about?
coming from a winmo background you're gonna love the galaxy s! its miles ahead in terms of refinements, polish and brilliant integration. The GPS problems are nothing so critical...its more of a sw fix im guessing. I live in India, and i have ZERO problems on my GPS....i feel the bug is something country/carrier specific.
there are many things to love and obsess with the galaxy s....go get yourself one, you sure wont regret it
While I'd love to echo what dreamtheater39 has said, I can't. It's a brilliant phone, but after having mine for just under a month, it's starting to lag like crazy, and in the last two days I've had a ton of dropped calls and the phone has switched itself off/crashed three times in the last few hours resulting in data loss because the power button doesn't respond (forcing me to hard-reset the phone).
All I can say is that, if you do get one, have an open mind. And make sure you don't get locked into a lengthy contract in case things do go awry.
same here GPS working great since day 1

Maybe I got a lemon
Maybe I got a lemon but I can not stand the i9000. I have 4 bugs that drive me crazy.
1. Market Place hangs at starting download. I have to do a factory reset to download an update an app.
2. GPS just stops working or it puts you on a different street when you are using navigation. The worst part is then it has to recalculate the directions twice, once for the wrong location and then again for the correct location, which is a real pain in the pocketbook when you are rooming.
3. Receives invalided cert from a hotspot connects the 1st time then never again. So I cannot use my hotspot at work, my old iphone connects no problem.
4. Does not always switch between wifi and mobile network. Have to go to airplane mode and back to get 3G network. (I tried changing the wifi sleep settings)
Mmmm...so maybe it's a good device, but I understand that who had an iPhone before it seems to be a step backward...is it?
Hi all,
Within the past week or so, I've noticed a fairly large drop in the signal strength from both my wireless lan and 3g signals. With the cell signal, it was even dropping to edge sometimes when I was outside in an area which used to give me full bars. Wireless isn't much better, and it seems to be fluctuating between 4/5 signal and 2/5 signal even though I'm close to my router. Again, I used to have full signal in the same location. Nothing really would have changed.
Yesterday I tried flashing Continuum (2.3.4) instead of running the stock 2.2 that I had before. The 3g signal seems to be *slightly* more consistent, although I'm still not at full bars, whereas I always was before.
Is this a common occurrence? Is it my hardware, and can I fix it myself, or do I need to send it in to Rogers? I've only had the phone for about 6 months now. I wonder if it's under warranty still (assuming I flash back the original ROM and bootloader).
If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated. It's odd, but the wifi signal almost gets boosted when I'm trying to use the internet, but not to full bars even when I'm near the router.
Bump. Is this the wrong place to ask this question?
Cheers
My AT&T Captivate has similar issues. Mine started about a month ago. I haven't put any effort into figuring out the root cause.
Yeah, I'd really like to figure out what's up though. Does the hardware just crap out after a few months of use? Thanks samsung!

This trend happened with my HTC Aria as well. I don't believe its anything related to Samsung hardware crapping out.
So, if it's software, what would be consistent across a ROM and kernel flash?
I recently fixed a network error effecting call quality by flashing a new modem. I know our issues are different, but since you did flash new ROM i dont think it could hurt.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I896 using XDA App
Stumbled across this article on Toms Hardware today and felt like it was a good read for this thread.

Unfortunately it's not just my wifi that has issues, but 3g as well.

Have you tried flashing a different modem? The one that came with your current rom may be different than you had before which would account for your weaker signals. Different modems work better in different areas. Try something else and see if it doesn't help, such as JK4 or JL3.
I haven't yet, but I actually had the problem before I flashed the ROM.
Where are you located. I have absolutely ATROCIOUS reception in Atlanta, and ATT says they have some 50 towers down. Your area might be the same. In my basement where I used to have 3 bars consistently, i know have to run around the basement struggling to get one bar to send a text. ATT needs to get their act together or everyone might start switching to Verizon.
In Toronto, Canada. We usually have good reception. It's only recently that I have had issues.
check with other people such as your family and see if they have bad service too, if so call your service provider, there may be an issue on their end. Other than that all I can suggest would be a full reset to factory and a master clear and then restart from there. While that is annoying, it might be worth it to solve the problem.
Hi guys.
Since last week I've been having an issue. My phone ramdomly looses signal for like 10 seconds and it generates a folder named "bd-dumps" with 3 archives on it: ramdump_modem_fw.bin, ramdump_modem_sw.bin and ramdump_smem.bin.
I didn't changed anything on the phone when the problem started. I was running LiquidSmooth ROM (Very nice, BTW), and started noticing this issue. In fact, I just noticed because my phone was lacking memory.
Now, I've been searching about this issue, but none of the solutions have worked for me. Some say is a bad SIM Card, others a bad network, but I am pretty sure that the issue is not about that.
Everytime that I turn on Data services, it happens. When data services are off, it doesn't.
Anybody has have this issue or have any idea what is this about? I attached some screenshots. Thanks!
Edit: I already changed ROMS, flashed Stock with RSD and flashed modem, but the problem still the same.
This is old.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/79890-modem-crashes-on-102-nightly-28-sept/
Been happening on CM based roms since 10.2 or before, for me it will only crash while on H+, 2G won't crash. Stock rom doesn't crash. Already tried buying a new SIM card too.
Devs are either unaware/not willing to look into it/not capable of reproducing since it only seems to happen to certain unlucky people, probably related to some types of networks, since my crashes only occur while on certain regions of my country.
On the other hand, if anyone capable enough is willing to look into this, i'd glady crash my phone a thousand times to generate logcats, dumps or whatever is needed to debug this ****, after all, this is a dealbraker for CM, this is a phone after all.

In my case, it does crash on Stock too. That's my problem. I flashed with RSD to Stock and still the same.
I have also tried other ROMs but the problem still the same. Any ideas?
Thanks
Modem still crashes for me on anything not based on stock 4.1.1 / 4.1.2 - That said, latest PAC jbbl 20140825 has had the least, but persistent and consistently crashing at the same intervals.
I came from stock 4.1.1 latest ota to 4.1.2MX then PAC jbbl 20140825, only got about 6-7% signal loss. Where as all other roms 4.2 4.3 and 4.4.x have been similar results in the 20-30% signal loss.
In your case, if you've not realized since, your modem might be bad hardware-wise. Since you say it was working and then started suddenly, even on stock. Stock I get 0% signal loss.
Having serious troubles with the GPS (I think ever since I upgraded to KitKat). I've tried a couple of ROMs and went back to the stock rooted one found here. I will get a fix at times but it will be lost within a minute or so and makes things very frustrating.
What's the best way to troubleshoot this? I've tried Chartcross GPS test, but it doesn't fix anything. Any help would be really appreciated.
Anybody?

If you google your question you will find loads of the same exact issue. I am also having the same exact issue, it only kind of works on stock rom with no root. But even then not for very long. Samsung decided to put garbage gps radio's in our phones so gps is pretty much non existent on the Note 3. I'm on my 4th phone from ATT. Not only does the GPS suck, the connection losses are pretty unbearable at times and have actually costed me customers. And to think I traded my S5 for this POS....really frustrating.
TLDR: Someone at Samsung needs punched in the face, twice.

Interesting. Mine was working perfectly prior to this whole kitkat ordeal. If I Odin back to stick and reflash to 4.4.2, do you think it will remedy the issue?
That's what i did because I need gps daily, though it still has major issues, I'm literally trying to sell it, my s5 never lost lock, even in my pocket.

Do you think there's any use in ODIN'ng back to stock and then trying the custom 4.4.2 ROMs or is it not going to work?
