FaCeBoOk applications..8/2/2009 Bloo Blabber Official Fbook - G1 Apps and Games

The android community is a day or two from the release of the MyTouch3g.
Rumors Have spread that there will be a official release from FacebOok.
Who knows? We just have to wait a little more to timeout.
I came accross Blabber and fbchat which compared to the mobile web version and full web version, gives better function than the browser. Fbchat is great for instant chatting online.
Bloo is also another Facebook app, its functions seem to be limitied! If you haven't tried it take a look for more info about the app. One advantage bloo has is that it has a cleaner UI.
WHAT I'M IMPROVMENTS SHOULD BE MADE? each application should borrow a few tricks from each other to implement a more complete build.
Blabber combined with fbchat for start if its possible?
Maybe a joint project between them? Blooblabberchat lol that sounds great I know! I should copyright it.
Ok to end the creators are up for a big challenge when the official FaceBoOk for Android is released. So let's give them FEEDBaCK and ideas to continue their hard work?????????

Chat can't be in either babbler or bloo because the facebook api doesn't allow it. Here are a few threads talking about the different facebook apps and one of them talks about the chat functionality. Also about the official facebook app which if the rumors are true isn't that special.

skyfire beta

"Skyfire is a free, downloadable mobile browser that delivers rich web media, real fast."
You cant use it without an account, as far as I know.
No u cant. it wont let u access much of anything
I can confirm that it doesn't work either unless you're already registered and accepted into the beta team of skyfire. It's pretty much a waste of space too bad, i would have really liked to see this puppy in action.
I have been using it and I really like it. It is very fast, even for me in a non 3G environment. The user interface is simple. the only real issue I have is the book marks. I cannot figure out how to delete bookmarks you don't want any more! there is very little in the way of tweaks. I wrote a review with a ton of screen shots here: http://tiltsite.com/2008/03/skyfire-my-initial-impression/
is this java app???

No, it's not Java based.
It is pretty quick and looks great, but seems kind of sluggish on my device when viewing videos, which makes it in my opinion no better then opera mini if not able to watch videos smoothly. Anyone else had this problem? Damn HTC, they really need to get their act together and fix graphics acceleration on these devices!
Is there no way to activate this?
I tried the cab but it doesn't work.
Must say Skyfire looks for very promising.
what is its benefits??
It's looking good, only check this
Only available in the US.
Hi Ron,
Thank you for your interest in Skyfire, we do have plans to introduce our product internationally. It’s just going to take us a little time to get there and we ask for your patience.
Here's an update on where we are with the beta:
On February 8th, we began to release the Skyfire beta 0.5 on Windows Mobile phones in the U.S. To give you a sense of our product roadmap, after Windows Mobile, we will support the Symbian platform in the U.S. – starting with Nokia N-Series and E-series phones. It will take us several months before we support both Windows and Symbian phones in the U.S. In that same timeframe, we will be rolling out support for Skyfire in Europe and Asia.
As soon as we support your phone in your region, we will notify you by email. In the meantime, to stay up to date about what’s happening here, you can read our blog. You can also refer to our FAQ.
The Skyfire Team
I signed up on the Skyfire website back in January and haven't received an email.
I forgot when I signed up for the beta but i finally got the email last week. Skyfire is still missing a lot of features. True it does load a lot faster than anthing else I've had on Edge Network.
Some of the most obvious feature missing is the Tabbed Browsing capability. You can only be at one website at a time and although it streams mp3s off the website almost flawlessly, Videos play almost as if it were just GIF images (sometimes & depending on the speed it will play a little bit better) well I do have to take into consideration that I have a tilt
Even though it has its advantages I still find that Opera Browser is still better than skyfire so far. Maybe in their official releases they will include a lot more features
Still waiting for my invite...
I emailed Skyfire to check on the status of my invite and got this :
Thanks for your enthusiasm and interest in Skyfire. We cannot specifically tell you when you will be receiving your beta invitation. You are registered in phase 1 of the beta and we will notify you by email and by SMS as soon as there is room for you in the beta program. Please ensure that when you signed up for the beta you entered the mobile phone number you want to download Skyfire on. We need that mobile phone number to notify you when it’s your turn to download. Rest assured, no one in beta 2 will receive their invitation to download until all beta 1 users have been invited into the program.
As reminder, first we are supporting Windows Mobile phones in the U.S. After Windows Mobile, we will support the Symbian platform in the U.S. – starting with Nokia N-Series and E-series phones. This could take a couple of months as we continue development and testing. For all you Blackberry, Palm and Linux users, we hear you, but know the wait will be longer. For our friends in Europe, Asia and around the world, we are working as hard as we can to roll out the service internationally. We ask for just a little patience. We are a small team after all.
To stay up to date about what’s happening here, you can read our blog. You can also refer to our FAQ.
Thanks,
The Skyfire Team
So I'm verified by them to be in 'Beta 1' ...but still no luck yet....
I also signed up but have not recieved an email. I tried logging into the skyfire website and it says that my email isn't even in there? WTF skyfire?
I have been using sky fire for s few weeks now. it is very nice. my favorite part is i can stream audio and video over the media net and not have to use the ATT isp (where i cant get MMS and email) so i am very happy with it. it is ok fast and easy to use.

I had this same e-mail, but finally got my text last week. I will agree that it definitely loads up very quick over wifi, haven't tried it on edge because I cancelled my unlimited plan b/c ATT charges an arm and a leg. Like others I have no problem streaming mp3's or videos, but it just isn't smooth when watching videos, someone was exactly right a couple posts up when they said it was like watching a gif. It only runs a few frames a second for me, on youtube, nhl.com, gametrailers.com, etc. Imo, opera mini still takes the cake. I think once (if) the video driver business gets straightened out and v1.0 is released from skyfire, this will be a great browser.
my understanding is that Skyfire renders the page on the server and streams that to the client in a compressed format. It's the same as Opera and that is how they circumvent Flash video issues.
Honestly, I'm not that impressed with Skyfire, but I don't live on my phone. I usually am just checking the weather and email.

Have there been any apps released that allow you to actually log into a AIM chatroom like the SK's use to back in the day? Not a one on one convo but a actual chat room? I have searched and searched and have didn'g find anything
Nope the feature isn't available yet, sadly
Hopefully some day soon. Man I miss talking chit in those chatrooms lol

Mobile Facebook (Not the official app)

I saw this on the market, I hadn't seen it before so I don't know whether it is new or it has just been updated but there are no reviews of it and I can't read the website so I'm not sure what to think of this app really.
http://www.cyrket.com/package/oms.sns.facebook
I haven't purchased it so I don't know if it is any good. Have any of you guys seen this before?
Thanks,
Simon.
Yeah it is new as I just noticed it as well. Anyone wanna take the dive and purchase and post impressions?
hmm based on that one review doesn't seem good :/
probably just another mobile facebook wrapper.
I emailed the Dev, asked him if it's a native app using FB's APIs or a wrapper, and asked for screenshots.
We'll see what he says.
Got a reply:
From Email said:

He sent me a ton of screenshots of the app in use. Screenshot attachments continue in the next post.
Continued screenshots.
Conclusion: The app doesn't look as pretty as Bloo does, but it looks far more powerful and integrated. I don't know if it's worth the $3.50, though.
I like Babbler myself. The first true native Facebook app.
Is it just me, or are those screenshots totally confusing? It's not the language barrier per-se, but I can't tell what any of those pages are supposed to be showing.
The thing that has me wondering though is, I thought there was no mail API - that's why Bloo and the others don't have mail yet.
Edit: Ok, I downloaded it and took some screenies of my own.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/nolageek2/sets/72157621869871714/
My opinion - it does a LOT. But it's kinda fugly and not fun or intuitive to use. I couldn't figure out how to view people's photos or reply to their wall posts, but I only had it for about 10 minutes and decided that I didn't like it enough to keep playing with it.
You could reply to e-mail, that was kind of cool. You couldn't do it from the message-read page though, you had to long-press on the message title on the message-list screen.
Mail is the only thing I saw that this has that Bloo doesn't (I haven't used babble). And with blue it's a LOT easier to comment on walls, photos, etc...
As you can see though, from the screenshots, it's got a LOT of options, so maybe I missed something.
Thanks for the review, nolageek.
If the interface improves, I wouldn't mind trying it. It'd be nice as well if the author could share their hacks with the Bloo and Babbler devs. Unless he's just recoding the HTML from the m.facebook.com site.
i like bloo the best so far, but i'm going to reserve judgment until the official app comes out next week.

Apps like Babbler and Bloo *could* do mail, but if they did they wouldn't be an officially approved Facebook app, since they wouldn't be following the guidelines of using strictly the API.
Neither of them are an officially approved Facebook app. There is no officially approved Facebook app, and no official Facebook app anyway.
And Babbler originally had mail, but it redirected users to the mobile site. Kind of a botched version. They've since dropped it in favor of pure API access.

there is rumored to be an official facebook app releasing with the launch of the MT3G, which happens next week. I see this as being strongly possible seeing as facebook, after years of TMO hating, just decided to open up mobile alerts for TMO customers.
It's not just T-Mobile they hate, it's Google as well.

wrong. there is a difference between an "official" app and an "approved" app. facebook approves apps and puts them on the web site if they follow all of their guidelines for apps. since facebook has announced they are making their own OFFICIAL app, they aren't listing android mobile apps anymore.

Not made for android. Made for all phones not iphone. But same page. Have you compared that feed to the real site? Its brutal. 1st few items are new, and then it just tosses a bunch of crap in from 24 hours ago or older. For anyone that uses facebook a few times a day, x.facebook is awful. Pretty tabs, but if feed is wrong, useless

Anyone uses Google Hangouts? What's the benefits and best practice?

Hey all!
Is anyone using Google Hangouts? What's the deal there? Anyone use it for work to chat with colleagues if international?
I'm really bad with these social new inventions, so trying to catch up with the speed, so if any one has an scenarios to share, that would be awesome!
Most of the time people hangout just to have some random discussions.
It's simple, try not to be a jerk and don't join hangouts when you don't have a webcam.

Go on... have a guess how I found this
http://gphangouts.com/
Well, haven't used. Still old-fashioned!
Long story short.... I recently bought an Android stick for my TV and bought a webcam for it so I could video Skype with mates. The first one I bought wasn't compatible so I bought another one (they were both cheap and cheerful).
Since I now have a spare one I hooked it up to my PC and decided to give public hangouts a try.
My above link doesn't work for public hangouts, and I've searched on G+ for #hangoutpost which does find some, but does anyone know a way to find all public hangouts? I've been in a couple but want to find more to give it a real try.
google hangout is pretty useful. its a free up-to-6 webcam pretty much. cool features are you can play some games (not sure which ones), you can all watch the same youtube video and comment on it and stuff, and its just pretty clean. when someone talks it puts that person on the main screen and transitions pretty well

Help bring Surespot secure messenger to Windows Phone!

Surespot is a secure mobile messaging app that uses exceptional end-to-end encryption for every text, image and voice message.
I've been in contact with a representative from Surespot (https://www.surespot.me/), I asked them if they had plans for introducing Surespot messenger (currently only available on android) to windows phone. They explained that it is in their road plan, but at this time they are developing a version for iOS and that once they release that they'll be able to put more attention towards a winpho app. They said its just a matter of time and money at this point, the more donations they receive, the more time they'll be able to devote to development in general. Payday is only a couple of days away and I plan to make a donation and I'm hoping that some of you here will also see the value of this app and make a donation as well. Thanks for your time!
Hmmm... looks cool. There's a part of me that wants to just take their codebase (it's open-source) and port it to WP8. Obviously, permission would be required before we could publish it or anything, but I bet you'd see a published app sooner if the author didn't need to write the whole thing from scratch.
Also, it would be a good chance to do a security review of the app. There have been an awful lot of apps that *claim* to provide secure messaging, but crypto is Really Hard To Do Right. Extremely so, in fact, especially for something trying to make as many promises as this app does. I unfortunately don't have the time to do this now (although it's the kind of thing I do professionally), and I doubt the author can afford a professional review at this time, but *somebody* ought to and I might have the spare time later on if nobody has done it by then...
That would be pretty cool, I would just love to see it on winpho, I had it on android, and now I'm back on winpho, I feel the loss

Considering they have a Contribute page I'd say that you could just ask them whether they'd like to have your help for developing a Windows Phone client.

Any news on that?
As FadeFx is very interested in this messenger I would also take a look if a WP version will come

Do it!
No seriously there is demand for this. No secure messaging app has been released yet for windows phone!
Actually i dont have a direct personal interest in a wp8 version as i am an aandroid user, but i think having an open source messenger that is available fir all major platforms is very important and id never use any closed source or partly closed source alternative and sure no messenger that requires to know my phone number.
However as it looks the makers of surespot are actually waiting for someone to make a wp8 version.

Might be worth doing that. I haven't looked at Surespot so I don't know how good/secure their platform is, and I don't really have a lot of time for developing non-hack-related apps, but it's tempting anyhow.
@GoodDayToDie any news on that? I think it is absolutely necessary for a messenger like that to be available on all major platforms...
Sorry, nothing yet. Been much too busy.
Besides, honest truth, you don't want me to develop anything with a UI. I can do back-end code well enough, but to me a "good UI" means "if you enter the command line parameters wrong, or you omit them, or you use -h or /?, it should produce a helpful message and then exit." So yeah, I'd look at their crypto scheme and their protocol, and maybe write a library to use them, but you would really want somebody else to actually make the app.
