Let me copy paste my question I did not yet find an answer to from the Cyanogenmod thread:
I was running the JACHeroski Hero build, 2.7.3 and that was also the first thing I installed when I got the phone last week, but now I decided I wanted to "downgrade" to CyanogenMod. The only downside is that even if I backup my SMS messages they do not transfer to the old ROM. The file copies, but the messages do not show up in the application.
Eventually I decided to compare the newer database and the older one, and the error turned out to be in the SPU table (thank you logcat), I recreated that (it was empty anyway) and then I could access all my messages again. Downside again was that I could not send messages anymore, every time I did that I got an error "Could not send message" and logcat did not show any errors.
Next step was insert all my SMS messages and threads into a blank database from that firmware, which worked and SMS sending worked too, but I still continuously got the error message that the messages could not be sent, while they in reality did send. Receiving worked fine all the time.
Anyone have any idea how I can install other builds than the Hero one I am running now and also solve this problem?
Backup your SMS using a program like My Backup. IT works transferring SMS from any build to any build. I.E. hero-->cm-->mytouch. DO a wipe and a fresh install of CM3.6.8.1. Currently 3.9.6 has some issues
I tried this out this afternoon and it has solved all my problems. With just Backup for Root Users it failed and manually injecting the messages into an SQLite database also failed for me, but after I did this once it works fantastically. Many thanks, I'm very glad it worked out.

Hello,
incredible but true, on my P3600 "Messages" would not run any more.
I cannot access the whole Messages software (inbox, draft,...): no sign of life clicking on the icon (the envelope), neither from Start->Programs->Messages nor from SPB Phone Suite.
Calendar and Notes in Pocket Outlook continue working well.
So now I cannot access to email nor SMS.
When I send an SMS from another mobile to my P3600, I see the P3600 screen becoming active (only the brightness) but no notify message appears. It seems that the Messages software doesn't load in memory any more even if I click the "tmail.exe" file in file Explorer
I am using WM5 (with official ROM) and in last days I have upgraded Pocket Plus to 4.0.1; I also use other SPB software as Phone Suite (1.1.1), Weather, ...
Unfortunately there are no changes removing Pocket Plus
Anyone faced a problem like this?
Thank you
Are you storing attachments on the miniSD?
Yes
the SD (Sandisk 2GB) seems to work
do you know how to modify the settings? I couldn't reach them because they're in Messages.
thank you
I'm not sure if that's the cause of your problem, but my Mail directory got corrupted once and messaging refused to start, like it happens to you. Try to rename the directory to Mail_ so that messaging recreates the dir again. You can change the attachment storage location on the messaging options.
thank you Apoc,
anyway yesterday evening I made an hard reset. I have tried to install a backup but the problem arose again so I decided to re-install all without backup.
I take your advice for the next time...because re-installing all I had on my P3600 there is a chance to face the same problem soon
thank you, really
I have same problom...
Please help

Did you try to run mailaccountrepair? You can download here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328467&page=2

This worked for me. Thanks!!
Did you store the messages' attachment on SD?
if you haven't fix the problem with mailaccountrepair, you could try formatting the miniSD (first copy all the files on your PC).
I have read this advise on another forum
It seems that it could be a problem of corruption of the attachment stored on SD.

I try to make a list of action from the Apoc's advice:
1. Using file explorer, rename the directory (probably on your SD) where Messages store the attachments (from "Mail..." to another name)
2. soft-reset
3. try to access Messages again (the envelope icon in Programs)
4. if Massages opens, it will create a new directory named "Mail..." in which the attachments will be stored, but you will not have the old attachments in Messages
Then you could try to copy the files that are the dir you have renamed to the dir that Messages has just created
if Messages doesn't open, try mailaccountrepair (as written by emay) or hard-reset (as I did)
XDAers,
You see the title. I've search these keywords every which way and I've only found 2 post on it in other sections on this. One doesn't help, the other says the problem is that my attachments are on my SD card, but I've had it that way since I flashed.
So I ask you all, what could cause pocket outlook & sms/mms to not open at all?
ROM: NoThrills 3.14 WWE
Radio: 1.65.14.06
Am I alone in this endeavor?
Did you try a soft reset? , my device does this once in a while but that always fixes it.
You could also try memaid, just search google
The new version of pocket mechanic diagnoses outlook problems. Might be worth a try.
Same issue
I also have the same issue and when I taken that to dealer they just flashed the ROM. Again I am facing the same problem from yesterday but till now no luck...
Help much appreciated. I don't want to flash it once more.
i want to know why i lost my ability to change mms settings. i tried installing every version of arcsoft and tried extracting oem and still no luck.
It is probably due to SD card folder used for attachments getting corrupted which crashes tmail.exe (the messaging application) on startup. Rename/Delete the said folder on SD Card.

Same problem today. Deleting the attachment worked for me.
Some poeple are the meaning, that the place for this thread will be better here: OK, lets following this issue here. Here is a copy from the previews one:
CM 4.2.1 / CM4.1.99x Exception with contact group
Exception with Contacts - so like as in 4.1.99x
I have the same problem as in 4.1.99x, that I can not add a contact in my group (there is still ony one, which was working after some crashes in 4.1.999) without a crashed application
If I look into the exception Monitor, I can found a lot of:
Quote:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Failed to find the My Contacts group"

What can I do or must do ?
History: I have had the G1 not so long time, but modif. it via WIPE to the 4.0.x ( stable )
After this (2 days later I upgrade to 4.1.111)
from this status I was following the description with the 2 Step to 4.1.999, where I have see the error the first time. With 4.0.x / 4.1.111 I haven't recognize this problem, because I have add some friend in my contact-list. For my meaning, this one was coming in, during upgrade in the 3 steps: WIPE, Google-Recovery, CM-Update 4.1.999.
Hint: If I update the phone, I start the phone WITHOUT a Mobile-Card: because I have had one time a bill over 200€ for data connection, and nobody knows why. So I boot the phone after update without card, check APNdroid, if 3G etc. disabed, shut down the phone, insert the casrd and boot again.
Maybe this handling calls the error ?
......
......
YES, I have use the search function and didn't found any usefull infos.
>>> ( how does I love this answer! If you found time to write this one, than I think, you know the answer - pls give me this one )
YES. I have reflashed the 4.2.1 with the card inside the phone: No change
Btw.: I was falling also in the error with the ext2 and ext3, so I change this one on the PC via tune2fs. But normaly every program, which need a DB and did not found it, create one. Or isn't it ?
Push > because its still avail and a Java exception is not a handling error
Just to bump this a bit and to pretend like it is actually useful to post in this forum...
Have you tried backing up your contacts via the browser, deleting them, sync the phone and then restoring?

No I haven't, because I have not so much contacts... So I was starting with a brand-new phone, "root" them, wipe them and change to CM4.0.x (Stable), jump to CM 4.1.11 and after a few days following the instruction to move to 4.1.999 with WIPE, 1st paket and the CM-paket.
Here I see the problem and also in 4.2.1.
About a missing Backup, I try only to create a contact manual on the phone.
THe first time, if I want to add the contact, the phone ask me to syncronise - but I was offline at all. So I reject this message ( there are also no datas to sync online )

[Q] "Installation error - insufficient storage available" when installing skype
Hello Everybody,
this is my first post on this forum, i decided to start this thread cause i've been struggling with this problem for something like one month now, i really want to fix it, and this looks like the best place where to ask for help.
I'm having problems installing the Skype application on a Samsung Galaxy S, in Italy.
Initially i installed it from the market, the installation went fine, but i couldn't log in cause i was still running Android 2.1
After the upgrade to 2.2, Skype worked only the first time i tried to use it, then it started giving me a weird bug; basically each time i tried to make a call, it would say "already 2 ongoing calls".
I uninstalled it, and now each time i try to install it again i get the same error message "Installation error - insufficient storage available".
I have 5.22GB available on the internal SD card, and 573MB on the internal phone storage, and i have no external SD card.
I tried to contact the Skype support, sent them something like 10 different emails, but each time they came up with stupid answers and in the end they couldn't find a solution, so they said
"Please note that the message you are receiving is an operating system message and is not a Skype message.
We suggest that you contact Samsung to find out under which circumstances the operating system returns this message and what can be done to make an installation possible."
I tried to contact Samsung, but they didn't even reply.
I started a thread in the Android Market Help Forum and one guy suggested to use adb to delete the skype folder
So i rooted my device with z4root and also did the OneClickLagFix V2.2+
I managed to install the Android SDK and get the adb up and running, but when i try to delete the skype folder, this is what i get
# rm -R /data/com.skype.raider
rm -R /data/com.skype.raider
rm failed for /data/com.skype.raider, No such file or directory
#
basically there is no such folder..
at this point i really don't know what to do, and i hope that someone here is able and willing to help me.
I think i gave all the possibly needed information to help you fixing my problem, but if you need more please just ask.
Thanks a lot and by the way big up to this forum, so many useful informations in here!
Cheers
Pedro
update
i installed Titanium Backup
if i go to the Backup/Restore tab and scroll to the very botton, the last one is com.skype.raider, but it has a line on it and i'm not sure what that means (see attached image)
if i click it, all the options are grayed out, so i can't uninstall it..
if i click and hold, a different menu comes up, where most of the options are grayed out as well, i can only do Assign Labels, Explore and View in Market.
If i click Explore, it says:
com.skype.raider
files/
shared.lck 0B
defetto/
main.db-journal 8.0KB
any idea what's going on? thanks in advance
Never mind, i made it!
I bought an application from the market called Root Explorer, i couldnt find a free one doing the same, basically giving full access to my folder structure.
Anyway, i was able to find the com.skype.raider folder and delete it..
after that, next install went fine!
the correct path was /data/data/com.skype.raider
so if you have the same problem, you can use abd and delete the folder and you don't need to buy the above mentioned app..
p.s. how do i set this thread as answered?
Had a similar problem! I couldn't downlaod anything from the market. Unmounting the sdcard has fixed the issue. Thx http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thank you for sharing your solution. It helped me solve the "insufficient" problem
So I was just texting last night and suddenly, my messaging app Force Closed. After that, it would just crash every time I would run it or receive a text. I assumed my sms database was corrupted, and with a bit of googling, I found where it was:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
Now at this point, the first thing I tried to do is to rename it (forcing Messaging to create a fresh new one) and just as expected, it fixed the issue, but all my SMS were gone. Now that I knew that this was the issue, I tried copying it over to my sdcard so I could take a look at it, but while copying, it would just throw a "cp: read error: I/O error" and it would stop.
The partly copied file was exactly 512000bytes, if that has any significance whatsoever. I tried to tar or adb pull it but it always give me some IO error.
Does anyone have any idea how I can fix it? is it the sdcard that is corrupted?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Bump? I'm still trying to recover it but nothing ):
