market...not working for me.
Initially, I downloaded and installed pacman and shop savvy. After the upgrade came through which put me at RC28, the market doesn't seem to work properly. When I click on the app I want, it looks as if the download is happening, but when I check download notifications, it says download unsuccessful. I've tried this on several apps...all have failed.
Heads Up - Market
In case you haven't looked lately, there are a dozen or so new apps today
and still nothing worth downloading
I second that. I am about to put the g1 up until something worth a sh*t comes out. But that's just me.
when did u get the update and did u have a choice to update or did it do it automatically,i'm just curious cuz i haven't got it yet
Did you try the download with 3G on??
If not, try it with 3G
We needed a new thread for this info?
The following morning after I got the phone.....there was a window after the unlock sequence. There did not appear to be an option, it just executed the update. I've tried both wifi and 3g....both don't work.
I noticed that I am having issues with some applications in the market. They will fail... I kept redownloading them till they finally came thru.
I haven't got the update yet. I think this is just because the market is getting soo many new applications and such it probably is having hard times with it all.

I read by Nov. 2nd it getting out there, hang in there.
As long as the software states that its a trial in the listing I dont have a problem with it. Someone will write a free version at some point. I would want to be paid for my work too
Most of the apps aren't trials, and the ones that I've seen that are thus far are clearly marked.
I don't mind, since it's not some large majority of applications that are timebombed or limited trials. You would expect some people to not want to give away their stuff, and there's not a huge flow of apps just yet.
Like all open source, I'm very enthusiastic to see what the market produces in the free category - I'm sure it's going to be impressive.
I don't know if the location of were I am located in the US but the I downloaded the widely talked about SHOPSAVVY application and doesn't seem to work well. Sure its free but it doesn't give me the nearest stores and only one or two online suggestions. WEAK SAUCE in my oppinion. I also saw and downloaded (by accident) trialware which I too believe should be in a different catagory. There were not a big selection of apps that were worth my time. Dissappointed
funny you say that because I always have my GPS on and I did it while I was outside. OH'well

This is ridiculous and I dont know who to contact to fix this. All these (****ty) apps are popping up in the app store as free, but really are trials, or even ADVERTISEMENTS for the actual product you must buy. I hope who ever is running the app store fixes this. Im disappointed because they said the apps would be free until next year but developers are making their own way around this rule to charge users for their ****ty apps.
This is one of the reasons i miss my windows mobile phone so much, because of all the excellent developers who created software for free, and diddnt try to make a pretty penny.

Its BETA so developers are going to put out BETA apps for people to test then they will charge for the final product. If you don't want to pay for apps then don't. Stop *****ing the damn phone/OS just came out. There will be free apps eventually, you can't even compare to Windows(WHICH HAS BEEN OUT FOR A LOT LONGER).
I understand your anger. Trial versions in my world ARE NOT FREEWARES! It's called SHAREWARE and are completely another kind ob beast. I'm REALLY PICKY at what I'm adding to our directory of free Android software and there is no chance for a trial, shareware or a demo to get inside. I'm myself sick of all these "smart promotion strategies" by developers and I hope Googlers at Android Market will sort this out soon (but I fear they won't interfere too much). Let's see!
I was curious and thought this would be kind of a neat app. Is there an app that I can use to turn my GTab into an external/second monitor for my laptop? If so is it Linux compatible or just Windows? Is it USB or WIFI?
I've been trying to find something like this also.
You could try a remote access app. There are a few to choose from in the market. There are also a few threads here about some of the different options.
Looks like the iPad has one ... wonder if they will work on an Android version:

Too bad too, I like maxivista.
Surprised their devs are so naive as to say they couldn't see the market for and android version. Guess they don't actually watch or read the news much.

Lol. I'll second that. Aren't we the "hackers" always looking to do something cool with our open source gadgets? They are as naive as it gets.
I was just thinking of something like this aswell. Is it possible to re-engineer the hdmi-out to take hdmi-in? I'd love to plug my cable box into my tab while i play xbox on the TV (or vice versa) I know there has been no positive progress on hdmi-in with HTC's mini-HDMI implementation. Maybe viewsonic (being a monitor company) has a better possibility? Any dev's feel like taking a crack at it?
iDisplay is available in the android market. works just like the iOS version.
Anyone tried iDisplay on the gtab?
I thought I'd buy it but there are only two bad reviews on their webpage and eleswhere I've read that they do no give refunds. There is no trial version on their site, but their terms of service says that customers are expected to run trial versions before they buy . . .
I sent them a kind message asking them if they truly expect anyone to give them money for basically nothing. But I tried to be nice, and to encourage them to post a trial so I could buy and give them a positive review. Five bucks ain't much, but darned if I'll give it away to shmucks . . .
Anyway, if the app works well, they deserve our support.
My gtab is running vegan5 and I use the HP mini wireless keyboard with both of the office suites available. The gtab is taking place of my laptop and doing a great job of it. To be able to also use it to augment the laptop by giving me more screen real estate would be icing on the cake.
Thanks for posting this thread. I never would have thought if it.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll purchase the app. I loaded the XP application and it appears that a virtual server is created which could be the reason for the slowdown.
It would be nice if some of these application developers provided just a wee bit of info that could be used to determine if an app is appropriate or not. I think that the apple market has set a kind of precedent for wishy-washy frivolity that is going to carry over into the android market unless google demands a higher degree of responsibility. The time is now, before the market matures as android tabs and notebooks take over most of our computing tasks, as I think they will.
The apps written for the old Palm devices were held to a much higher standard than a lot of iPhone apps I've seen. But then the Palm devices were oriented towards business productivity and not so much as toy/entertainment oriented as iPhones and iPads. I spent part of the day with my hands on the Xoom tab, and talking to several Motorola reps and Verizon sales people. I must have sounded like an evangalist for the android OS.
If google is listening I'd like to tell them to take their work seriously right now because they could be taking over the entire personal computing market in the near future. Computing, regardless of platform, is not all about entertainment. We in engineering and science have needs that also require more versatile hardware and software. The tegra3 is just around the corner . . . then what? How will all those extra processing cores be made truly useful? I want an android powered tricorder.
My evangelical proclivities are simply gushing forth . . . (in all the wrong places)
Thanks again to the OP for initiating this thread.
I tried iDisplay today. I like it! It is a bit laggy, but works great other than that!

The market has a Soonr Workplace app, which allows collaboration of work. Has anyone tried it yet, and does it allow annotation of all kinds of files with the S Pen, which is what the Soonr app is supposed to do?
When i looked into it, it seams to be a trial software package, after 30 days its a months fee....ouch.

Hmm...thanks! Someone on the market commented that it's a virus or something.
Well, I'm hoping the Soonr app comes out soon as it's free! Or if there are some mods/apps that allow annotating of microsoft documents with the S Pen.
Its free because its a trial period, then you pay monthly.

i think no , the soonr app for the Galaxy note is called Soonr scribble and its "comming soon" according to samsung , they have videos of that app on youtube , but i just couldnt find it anywhere , guess we will have to wait.
on the other hand , u can annotate PDFs using ezpdf , i find it not that productive and quite annoying sometimes with ezpdf (due to small issues that require tweaking) , hope soonr scribble will be the best all in 1 annotation app for the GNote
Yes, it's quite cumbersome and altogether exasperating trying to annotate using EZPDF. It's great for just about everything except that!
You know what? I was poking around the S Choice app today when I saw Soonr Scribble listed for sale. There was a note to register online* for the free version (go to www.soonr.com/galaxynote) of the app, but when I did so, I received the message that I will be informed once the app is publicly released.
I hope it comes sooner rather than later, pun intended!
BTW, you need to click on the phone rather than the red register free trial icon on the top right corner. That's for Soonr Workplace I believe.
been a wild goose chase trying to get the soonr scribble. when i registered earlier, all i got was the other soonr software and was told that i would be able to get soonr scribble soon.
just a couple of days ago, i saw it on the samsung apps costing several dollars with a caveat that if i register at soonr, i would be able to download a free copy. but when i wrote in to soonr about the free copy, their response was that they do not know when samsung and market is gonna release it and it is beyond their control. Plus they did not address my concern about where I could download a copy, as samsung had said. What a confusion.
I don't mind paying for the app but just needed to get a trial version first lest it be a junk piece of software. With market at least there is a 15 min trial period but currently scribble is on samsung apps which does not have a trial period. right?
You're right. I don't mind paying as well but want to try it our first. Thanks for sharing your experience with us
Please everybody who have tried Soonr app, give their review or just opinion about the features of this application! I hope that it can annotate ppt and pptx files directly with S pen so that Galaxy Note can be used as a general tool for presentation.
Hi guys.
Soonr Scribble allows you to annotate in any major Microsoft Office format (.doc/x, .xls/x, .ppt/x) as well as .PDFs.
The app is free for a limited time. Signing up for a free 30 day trial account will include 5GB of storage and allow 2 seats and 2 guests. You can always upgrade storage and team-sizes to fit your needs.
We expect to full go live within a week or so and will keep everyone updated.
Thanks for the reply, Soonr! I can't wait! It's been announced on CES.
Hmm...I just chatted with Ryan on Soonr's website and he says it should be out end of the month. Yay!
Now it's been the end of the month, but still no news about Soonr Scribble for Galaxy Note. Why it takes too long time?
I don't know either. Smoothing out some bugs I suppose...
Hope they keep to their word. I've been checking S Choice and Samsung Apps twice a day for the past few days.
Soonr Scribble
I was just checking on the market to see if it showed up, IT DOES!!!!

Soonr Scribble Now available on Android Market, Get it while its Free!!!!
Once installed, you will need to create an account with them using an email address before you can use the app, have not used the app yet so cant comment on how good or bad it is.
Thanks, Hasc. I'm the OP and I downloaded the app this morning! It's available on the android market as well as via Samsung apps.
Before you can use the app, it will download a What is Soonr.ppt file (7.3MB). It took me a while to realise that (You'll also need to register for an account first.) So you do need to have your Wifi or 3G turned on. Be forewarned that if it's free Wifi that you're using, the downloading can take quite a while.
After you have scribbled on the file, you will also need Wifi or 3G to upload (=update) the file. I chose "Save for offline use in settings", and it updates the file once I turn on my Wifi.
I think the app works fairly well though I would have preferred a tutorial or a more helpful screen than what you see when you first start out. I'll also like to see an eraser instead of just an undo button, as I can't make changes after the file is updated. Scribble to text conversion will also be great, and I hope that's not a pipe dream!
Any thoughts about this app? I haven't used it much, frankly, so I would like to hear from others.
Had a quick play with it on the GNote (Scribble version) and it does work well and seem useful BUT I personally think the pricing is too high (unless you are guaranteed to use it frequently enough to justify it of course).
I might be interested if there was a "per GB" pay as you go model, but wouldn't be using it enough to justify EUR 9.99 a month minimum.
Uninstalled already!
so far i have *not* found it to be user friendly...i could not seem to get it to work by just playing around.
there seems to be a battery drain with the program too.
after one day, i uninstalled it. i was particularly disappointed as i was very much looking forward to the program.
New realtime web tracking system, runs on any phone 2.1+
You can send links to people you want to share your position with. Has configurable "update" times and shows last update/update interval/battery status on the web tracking page (useful for example when you are outside, roaming wilderness for many hours and need to save those last 10% of battery by turn long update interval - people watching you do not freak out, why didn't you move for a long time).
Current status: works, I am optimizing the GPS usage for battery savings.

I am the author of this app and have one question - did you ever clicked on ads in this app? I am just trying to make a kind of "Survey" between users to know, which way to go. I have the paid version, but it doesn't sell well, so I made the Ad-supported version, listed in Google Play for free, but not many people click the ads.
What do you think? Do you think, that having the app free, supported with ads is viable option for me?
Does this application allows recording and upload tracks?
I`m looking for app like old GPSed for iOS and Blackberry.

For the most part if I use and like an app, I will get the paid version. Outside of that, I don't see the ads, and I would not click on them if I did.

Not sure about this time tracking application. We had been using Replicon's time tracking product suite which is an easy to use cloud based solution. It has a simple to use calendar view interface, great features for usability and unparalleled back up support too. NO issues till date, had been quite efficient and productive tool.

Nice app... but
I just downloaded your free version to see how it worked before purchasing and have a question.
In your description it says you can send links by email but there is no option through the phone app to send links at all. The only place I seen that offers any type of links to send is on the website. I think this option should be offered through the phone app.
Is this something you plan on adding?
Noblesse Oblige
This application began as a themed method to access the same Siri servers used by Jailbroken iOS devices, but has since grown to surpass even those.
It now has offline recognition, allowing access to everything that is still available without an Internet connection. It has social broadcasting, which allows users to send messages to the others using the application. It also now supports launching applications and improved navigation.
Future features will include leaderboards to resemble the reports given in the show and integration with Facebook and Twitter, to accompany current integration with YouTube.

It wouldn't connect to your server, so I switched it to one of the free English/German servers you have listd and it's working great.
The voice recognition on it is freaking amazing, even if I'm basically whispering.
Great job integrating all these different things together.

Pretty much any server listed will provide the basics, just not the extensions. The only issue I have seen is many of those servers are run from Germany, so grammar isn't always perfect and the commands are unnatural.
I will openly admit that I purchased, tore apart, and then based my application on siri0us, which is partnered with grwh. I have been trying to keep the unthemed portions similar, much like a Siri theme would be to allow people the option of using either application without it being a drastic change or confusing process.
Surprisingly, though, some of the grwh moderators have been the most opposition on this project. Even with the server being open source and the mass amount of updates and improvements I have offered back to them, they have this view that I am trying to profit from their server. The application price is unrelated to the server, but the proceeds are used to maintain it. This comes from sacrificing any profit to provide this service back to the user instead. This issue has been addressed and hopefully does not threaten the development of this project.

Iris is like the original Siri. It only works right on certain devices, the responses are generic, and you get stuck with what they give you, including ads.
On another note, that application forces religion on the user by responding with numerous references to God and Christianity. This is something I feel deserves some sort of disclaimer and isn't really appropriate for applications that span multiple countries and religions.
This works with pretty much anything, the responses vary and are alway being expanded and updated, you can choose the voice engine, the server can be switched, custom responses can be submitted to the server, no religious belief is chosen for the user, and (thanks to the wolfram plugin) you can still ask things like how much caffeine in a mountain dew.
Sent from my Jailbroken iPad 3
I am working on the app launching as a separate plugin. The reason for this is that the server has no way of handling things like that, so having a launch command pass through the server would be silly. The local plugin will intercept the command instead.
The alternative was to have the server pass back a value that was read to launch the app, but I would be running the only server that handled it. This will provide the best method for adding the functionality to any server someone chooses to use.

First of all, great start, but is is possible to customize the theming? Or for that should I go with a different, non-anime themed app?
Also, where is the best place to submit suggestions for responses?

Sirious! is an unthemed Siri client, but with theirs you lose the search button launch, some GPS functionality, orientation handling, and the default server is configured to their public one (which gets rid of the server theme components, but also most of the plugins and improvements to the server).
In the app menu, there is a button for custom commands that will take you directly to the page to submit custom responses, or under "Interactions" on the main site listed in the first post. If you mean altering the server responses for other things, you can suggest them through the "Contact Developer" link on Google Play's app page or the site "Resources".
Removing the theme would make this just another bland Siri clone, and that was the whole point of developing a new one. If the theme is really that much of a problem or makes you feel uncool, you may want to wait until sirious! updates their app for Siri servers or try Skyvi, Assistant, Ever Friends, Iris, or any other "generic" voice assistant app.

I would have done Alfred and the Bat communicator if I really wanted to meet the Warner Bros. legal team. Anime companies tend to be less strict when it comes to "fan creations" but it's often an issue with those themes being considered "lame" by the general public. I tried not to go too crazy but not make it just a background that didn't fit anything else.
I did catch some errors on alarms that are being looked into and texts seem to be hit or miss. Both are plugins issues with the server so they will get fixed without having to update.

Yeah, the old famous marvel lawsuits. shame on them.
Anyway, one thing that you should probably look at is the landscape mode. Right now it just stretches the background image, which looks terrible. I had some more response oddities, but I assume you can get those from server logs.
