I found a thread on here from back in December about this but no one had any ideas how to enable it.
I thought I saw in some custom roms where something had been pulled from the Ion or possibly a different YouTube.apk that allows the higher quality youtube videos over 3G.
Anyone know how this can be done on a general basis to a rooted phone? I'm using Cyanogen's latest stable rom but it doesn't seem to have anything special to enable this.
Oh, and I'm pulling a solid 1 - 1.5Mbps on AT&T so I'm sure I've got the bandwidth.

I'm using Cyanogen's latest stable mod and I have an option while watching YouTube movies to watch the higher quality version (click menu during the video). You have either got to be in a 3G area or on a decent WiFi connection.

God, it must be obvious to everyone else but me! Thanks so much!
Now... if only you could make high quality the default.
??
-James
dont think you can default it through the options it gives you
this doesnt belong here, but the higher quality by default is only available when you have wifi enabled. It has something to do with not forcing the extra data strain on your 3g data plan (for those who have metered one)

Hi all,
I have this strange issue with the Youtube app on my Diamond. I posted about this in Dutty's thread and though it seems I am not the only one, no solution is knowd yet.
Here's the deal:
When I set the settings to HIGH QUALITY in the Settings dialog in the youtube app, buffering is extremely slow, it buffers with 1% intervals. I am using a high speed H network connection, and in the past I remember it would buffer with intervals of about 25-30%.
I tried different radio roms, different cooked roms (incl. stock rom/stock radio), nothing helps. It's not the locations because all other internet apps have fast internet.
Anyone knows about this? I'm kind of stuck here

+1 here! I'm using the Dutch T-Mobile with Web&Walk 1mbps internet and I have to say, that i'm indeed not satisfied with the YouTube app...
I personally think it's not the ROM or Radio, but the app itsself...
one day I compared my Youtube app with a good friend of mine with his..(Apple Iphone) and his was faster, eventhough his internet is crap speed.... about 256 kb
Anyone out here who knows about this and knows how this can be fixed?
Thanxx

I compared my speed with a Touch HD from a friend, same network (!), same location, both apps set to 'high quality'. Mine started buffering at 1% intervals, his buffered with 30% intervals...
Since I tried several radio roms, I tried a few complete roms (maybe my rom had an older youtube app), but every rom I tried was slow (even the stock roms).
I am completely lost here
SOLVED!
Jeroen: I finally decided to give customer support from T-Mobile a call, and guess what; they somehow downgraded me from web-n-walk plus to the normal web-n-walk.

Thanxx mate!
EDIT: I contacted T-Mobile about my W&W and they confirmed it was still W&W plus....very weird....neway I have to deal with it I think....Could be my ROM now AZTOR V7...
is it me or is the youtube video's quality a load of blocky and blurry ? and why is the pictures in the browser and internet blurry and blocky 2?
1.is there a way to make any of these clear?
2.is this going to be fixed in a update
3.is this going to be what it going to be like as the iphone and other fones have clear pictures and videos
what? my youtube and pictures in browser have perfect quality...
my guess is that your internet is too slow for youtube (try wifi) or something is really messed up with your phone...i havent heard anyone else complain about this.
i just changed it to wifi is crystal clear now thanx for the tip but when on 3g it nowhere near as clear why is this the 3g is strong where i live and fast as i live in london england best signals are in london any one know why this is?
....and do you know a way i could get it clearer like the wifi and do you only use wifi ? or is your 3g the same as you wifi?
haha i have EDGE until my carrier launches 3g in a few months (my carrier is really small and not national)
my guess is that in order to watch youtube over 3g an dhave it not skip they reduced the video quality? maybe if you paused it and let if buffer?
i'm not sure about the pictures in browser though...i'm pretty sure those should load correctly in 3g...
I live in new york and when I watch video on 3g they look very clear to me and the internet pictures are also clear, maybe you should check how much space the youtube data and browser data is taking up and delete it. I don't know if this will help but you should give it a try
Hello,
I have an Optimus Black with cyanogenmod 10 Stable working really good, (rooted ofcoarse) I have unlimited data plan so I was wondering if anyone knows of any good internet speed tweaks, I mean for when i'm tethering wireless to my pc is there any build prop tweaks or anything to help improve the speed? I mean to be honest it's not that bad now I get about 1-4mbs down (depending on what time of day) and average 1.6 mbs up which the upload is really good and I do alot of online gaming to, my speed is good for that its just when i'm buffering a youtube video on my pc it is okay sometimes but it just randomly stops buffering and won't continue until I restart the vid or refresh the page and it could do with being quicker and its really slow with hd buffering 480p is the highest i can go with having to wait lol and the other thing is when ever i load a video it always start in 144p or the lowest qaulity there is lol and then I switch to 480p and it buffers okay so whats the point in starting at low quality lol and it start in 144p but actually when you see the vid the quality looks like 480p then changes to 144p lol confusing, so if anyone knows anymore build prop tweaks or just any general tweaks please
Thank you

Hi,
The fact it stop buffering at a moment may not be the internet connection speed but rather that the connection is interrupted maybe due to bad coverage or something like that.
If you want a tweak you may try Pimp my ROM available on play store.
Best browser firefox
So I found this information:
http://androidhackz.blogspot.com/2014/07/buildprop-hacking-increase-network.html
I've already modified the build.prop on my rooted Nexus 6 running 5.0 to enable screen casting, which worked perfectly (even though Netflix only shows a black screen). But I'm wondering if any of these other edits would work. Like the "General Performance", "Increased Media & Streaming Performance", "Make apps load faster and frees more ram", etc. Any way to increase my LTE speeds?
I'm new to build.prop editing, so any thoughts or advice would be great.
Thanks
Try them out and let us know?

Ok, thanks. I don't want to start messing with something and cause more harm than good. Figured someone would have more experience. Just trying to boost as much performance as possible. It seems to be slow on LTE, but that might just be my AT&T network connection or data throttling. Still wish I could get miracast working 100%!
Found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4D0MZmDMz8 an hour ago. It boots and everything but im still testing for bugs. so far for me camera doesnt work. looking for other to help test for bugs so we can squash them. Thanks to Droid Mobile!!!
In addition to the camera not working, I can not get video/audio playback of any kind. Which sucks because this is a VERY snappy build!

i get audio but no video. and yes indeed it is extremely fast!
I'd love to test for bugs with you two but AFH is currently down for maintenance so I can't get the zip file.
Question, is calling/texting working fine? What about cellular data in general?
Thank you guys for trying it out! I can't test as this is my daily, but I would love to hear more. Nougat seems very promising and I'd love to try it out once it's a little more refined!

Since AFH is still down is there any chance you could re-upload this [temporarily] somewhere else so you can get a few more people to help test it? I'd love to help out.

To my knowledge the site is up right now(just checked). Try the site now.
It boots and it's really fast, but it doesn't have camera or audio/video playback, which means no phone calls either. Bluetooth works though for audio.

New build up for our H811. Looks like all new unofficial builds will be here.
9/21 build has working audio, video, and camera. Data is a bit wonky it gets LTE just fine but 2G/3G seems to be not working for me. Video chat on Facebook Messenger does have some very slight audio drops from time to time but very solid. Also noticed that the video on Facebook Messenger doesn't go proper full screen the notification bar and navigation bar remain on screen.

I'm not sure how you got that to work, I installed 9/21 and I don't have audio, video, or camera at all. Same behavior as 9/14 after clean or dirty flash.

I left a comment over on the LG G4 forum, not this T-Mobile specific one, letting people know what I found working and not working based on the 9/14 build. I received a reply to it which I'm going to quote below.
"Yeah earlier builds didn't have the audio policies fixed; now they do. Obviously the camera is being worked on"
Can anyone else confirm what FlinderMouse said? I'd rather not flash it just yet and I'm skeptical of what AngryManMLS is stating regarding audio/video/camera working in the 9/21 build.

It's 100% safe to install. And since I've had more time to use it here's a more comprehensive list of where things are at right now. Keep in mind we are basically in alpha stage at this point but this is a very solid alpha build. Also keep in mind that this is my own experience with the 9/21 build which could be different from the one you have.
Video Playback - YouTube, Slingplayer, DirecTV all work for me with no issues.
Audio Playback - Google Play Music and PowerAMP work all fine for me with no issues outside of occasional audio drops (see: Bluetooth, Video Over IP).
Video Over IP - Facebook Messenger works but there's some audio drop outs I experienced and it doesn't go proper full screen.
Bluetooth - Both my Bose QC35 and LG G Watch connect and work just fine but Bluetooth itself seems to randomly turn off for no reason. Also had occasional audio drops on my QC35.
LG G Watch - Able to sync properly and do everything from changing music tracks on PowerAMP to using Google Fit with ease.
Data - A little slow to find LTE but that works. 2G and 3G is flaky at best at this point.
WiFi - Connects to my Linksys EA9500 just fine and works just fine.
Phone Calls - Can make and receive phone calls just fine. Obviously no WiFi Calling available but to be honest CM13 at this point doesn't have that implemented for the H811 (T-Mobile) G4 variant.
Camera/Camcorder - On the native CM14 camera app able to take pictures on rear camera no problem. Front (selfie) camera is messed up. Unable to record video. However on Facebook Messenger the front (selfie) camera works with no issues. So camera at this point is semi working.
NFC - It turns on and off... and that's as much as I can tell you since I usually don't use NFC.
And to also note some expected Cyanogenmod features are either missing or are not working at this point. For instance I'm unable to change the battery meter it's stuck on the default one. And the theme engine hasn't been implemented into CM14 at this point but that's a given at this point. Still for what is an alpha level build this is pretty solid and still pretty usable even with the bugs it has right now. The build is very fast for the most part - I did experience occasional lag when turning the phone on and waiiiiiting for the lock screen to appear. Worth giving a run for even a few hours just so you can play around with Nougat for a bit.

I'm on 20o already and based on what you said above I'm sold. I'll flash it this evening and then also report back with my findings.
By chance you haven't tried the camera with the Google Camera, have you? Asking more out of curiosity than a need to know if it works with that fine too.

I actually forgot to test with Google Camera. Interestingly enough video recording at least at 1080p works on Google Camera. Here's a quick test video I did.

Thank you for the excellent builds. Sorry I forgot to write that earlier.
Excellent build for the 9/21. I am using it as a DD for the next few days so Ill update.
Video and Audio seem to working just fine now.
LTE is a little slow to kick in on reboot but nothing worse than the previous CM13 builds
I have had to forced reboots and both revolve around the stock CM gallery. I installed Google Photos since I use it for backups and have had no issues yet. Google camera seems to be working the best so far. I normally use the paid version on Snap Camera but its not playing back the recordings. Smooth snappy in and out of apps and screens. And so far battery life is shaping up to be very good.
On the first install I was having issues. I had to KDZ to stock 20o and then go through the rooting process again before I could get this working. It was just hanging on the "Starting Apps" boot screen and would go no futher no matter how long I let it boot.
Currently running the 9/21 build flashed over 20i. No audio or sim card recognition. I have WiFi luckily . can't install lollipop ROMs, this is the only one that will boot. So based on my experience, I'd say be on 20o when you flash. 20i seems to be totally buggered up. Like I said, I can't even boot lollipop ROMs now so I'll have to kdz to 20o when I get home so my phone will have signal and audio. I've also noticed rotation does not work.
