Android with HTC Sense for the vogue. - Touch CDMA Android Development

If your looking for Android with SenseUI for your Vogue then search for vilords fixed Tattoo build or jamezelles senseHero/senseTattoo builds. I have retired my vogue since I now own a HTC Hero. Thanks for everyone who contributed too and tested my android builds. Running android on the vogue has been a great experience.
Link to older/misc builds. Mostly older sdcard based squashfs builds. Some there are some jems in there and some oddities.
Thread and downloads for senseHero: The last sense build from me. Old style harret/squashfs.
default.txt parameters for tattoo/donut:
Code:
mddi.width=240 mddi.height=320 lcd.density=120
default.txt parameters for hero/magic htc sense ui and htc rogers builds
Code:
mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480 lcd.density=160

I keep getting errors for everithing! not even the menu starts.. or make a call.. just errrors.. Sorry... Sorry lbah blah .. >_<

It works for me. I've been testing this build longer than anybody else and it runs fine for me with the clock, calender, and weather widgets running along with one or two programs open and animations turned on and it's smooth for me. This is a testing build and if your running a lot of programs and widgets then there are going to be lags and error messages. Most of the error messages are usually that the system is taking to long to respond and it will ask you to wait or force close. This is because your running a mobile os meant for a phone with higher specs it's going to run slower on the vogue. With help from vilord and mssmision I've tried to make this build as fast as possible. Android expects certain tasks to be executed in a certain time frame. If something takes longer than expected android will ask you if you want to force close the process or wait for it to complete. I run this build on a verizon branded vogue. Others have reported that it runs great on their vogues too and a couple others report that it runs slow. Also make sure you are using all my files and followed the directions at the top of the thread. Without any more information I can't be of any help. Thanks for testing my build.

is this port only for HTC vogue or can int run on other HTC devices like the Topaz ...?

when are you gonna release the full build your testing? i watched your video and got me very interested in trying android. couple of questions tho, do i have to erase my sd card or just have plenty of space on there for it to work? also, how do i edit the default.txt file? this is my first time here or even trying this so im a lil lost. much help would be appreciated

is there any chance it would work on HTC Touch Pro2? I try and it is freezing as soon as I Run, I see Go, Go, Go... and that's it :-(

Been waiting on this new one, hope you post it soon. Your last one's the best Hero build I've tried. Thanks for getting them posted.

I will definately switch to the Hero build but only once 320x428 resolution is supported... til then it's Mssmision Hero-Themed Cupcake for me... this release has super-potential but it simply hurts my eyes looking at squished/fuzzy icons all day...
Thanks Zenulator for all your hard work!

If your coming here and your not using a vogue then your questions most likely won't get answered. Right now this works on most vogues and kaisers. I do not know if this works on any other device other than those and I am not going to be porting it over to anything else. If you want to try I suggest you ask in other forums specific to your phone.

just use the one from the 8-2-09 Hero zip then modify the following parameter to this: panel_type=3

THIS IS what my default.txt looks like, i put the number 3 in there, not sure if i put it in the right spot but when i click run, screen is white and flickering.
set RAMSIZE 0x08000000
set MTYPE 1667
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
#
# The following kernel parameters are useful
# [email protected] - The username used to connect to the network when dialing #777
# ppp.password - The password used to connect to the network when dialing #777
# ppp.nostart - Set ppp.nostart=1 to disable starting the ppp connection on boot
# msm_sdcc.msmsdcc_fmax - The maximum frequency (in Hz) used by the SD controller
# pm.sleep_mode - The mode used when the phone is off
# 0=Power Collapse Suspend, 1=Power Collapse, 2=Apps Sleep,
# 3=Slow Clock and Wait for Interrupt 4=Wait for Interrupt
# Default is 3, use 0 for best power savings
# board-htcvogue.panel_type - Panel type used to power the panel off and on
# 3 1=Hitachi 2=Topoly 3=Samsung
# clock-7x00.mddi - MDDI clock (try 0xa51 or 0xe2c)
# clock-7x00.ahb_div - Advanced Host Bus divider, default is 4
# 2 is faster but uses more power
# clock-7x00.a11 - ARM11 clock speed in MHz, best to leave this alone
# lcd.density - Defaults to 160, 128 shows more on screen
# vogue-ts.XMIN - xmin value for the touchscreen calibration. Also YMIN, XMAX, YMAX, PMIN, PMAX.
#
# Probably the only one of these you will need to change is the panel type, NZ Vogues seem to all have type 1
# US Sprint vogues usually have type 2 or 3 I think.
# Make sure you add these between the quotes on the following line and that your editor hasn't split the line up.
set cmdline "ppp.username= ppp.password= mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480 msm_sdcc.msmsdcc_fmax=32000000 pm.sleep_mode=0 board-htcvogue.panel_type=1 no_console_suspend"
boot

Nope, you put it in the wrong spot. All the lines that begin with a # are just comments, and don't actually do anything. in the line that begins with "set cmdline" you need to change it to have "board-htcvogue.panel_type=3" instead of the "1" that you have in there now.

Im so annoyed by all these people who cant read, its great you helped them, but if they had taken 10 seconds to read what the default.txt tells them then they would have figured this out a long time ago. It even says:

It doesnt get much clearer.

Make sure you didn't hit <ENTER> in the 'set cmdline' line. That needs to be one full line of text. Maybe paste the last few lines of your default.txt again if that isn't the case.

The scrolling Linux console doesn't take any longer on Hero than it does on Ion. It's once the GUI comes up that you need patience.

I know, but you still should have patience with it. Mine hangs up at the volume part for almost a minute sometimes and that could make someone think its broken.

Clock200/240/252 Question

I did an upgrade to the 2.17 ROM. Part of the included extras in the upgrade are the overclocking programs that summiter included. ie Clock200/240/252.
It is my understanding that it is a temporary overclock that when the unit goes on standby it returns to the normal speed demon that it is which is fine. I don't need speed all the time at the expense of battery life.
The question is this. When I click on the clock icon, let's say the 240 one. Nothing happens. The icon is just highlighted, but no process takes place. I double tap etc... and nothing. Is that how it's suppose to act? I go to settings/system/Device Info/Hardware and it still shows the speed as 195 Mhz.
Any one have light to shed on the subject?
Thanks in advance.
Phil

thats to be expected. when you click omap252 or omap240 or omap200, think of it as triggering a background process that resets the speed. you won't see no screens or nothing.
if you want, run one of them, then run \program files\omapclock\omapclock.exe, and you'll see how fast youre actually running (i.e., i ran omap252, and when i open \program files\omapclock\omapclock.exe, it says current speed = 252)
Got it! I can see the change now. I thought it would change in the setting/system part of the OS.
Cool feature

Thanks Brandon. Had been looking for this for a long time.
Just in case, others run into the same problem I did to get it working,
I first adb pushed it to /sdcard and tried changing the permissions to make it an executable. But chmod does not work on /sdcard.
Finally, I deleted the file from /sdcard and pushed it to /data/local. I was able to chmod 766 there.
Runs well now. Thanks for the keyboard mappings,
Can't yet figure out "Back", "Call" and "Hang Buttons".
Long Press works on the home screen, but not on selected elements.
Also haven't yet figured out how to scroll down a list. eg. in Astro, I can't figure out how to get context popup on a file or how to scroll down to see the next page. "Page Down" and "Down Arrow" keys don't work. The mouse scroll wheel does not work either.
This server is horribly laggy, its good for the first few seconds (with RealVNC, at least) then lags to hell.

for now i found a way to edit the files in inkscape, one layer per frame, exporting them to .xcf keeping the layers, and then use gimp to convert to animated gif. works, but is a lot of footwork... but i guess as i am trying to make a rather "complex" (at least for a gif) animation it just is a lot of footwork...

Hey, I was wondering if you could help me out. I dig your boot animation, and it's inspired me to make my own (OK, I'm just stealing the old "Cylon Eye" animation from the pre-release days.) Anyway, I've got the animation zip installed and working, however it seems like the phone is ignoring the frame delay. The animation seems to be going as fast as the phone can handle. So maybe there's a setting on the animated GIF that I'm not applying. Are there any specific settings you applied to your gifs?
Here's what I've got right now:
Code:
Interlace: No
GIF Comment: No
Loop Forever: Yes
Delay between frames where unspecified: 10ms
Frame disposal where unspecified: "I don't care" (other options are Combine and Replace)
Use Delay entered for all frames: Yes
Use Disposal entered for all frames: Yes
These settings are in GIMP. If you could help me figure this out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

set that value to a higher number, try 100ms. this specifies the general frame delay, you can set per-frame delays in the name of the frame. for example:
"Frame#1" is the layer name, make it
"Frame#1(500ms)" to make the delay half a second long.
(if that doesn't work try to google it, i am not 100% sure about the syntax)
would you mind sharing that animation you are talking about?
btw: work is still ongoing here, nuclear power now has a colored progress bar, but it is getting complicated handling 150+ layers in inkscape...

Yeah, I realized that my math was off with the delay, after noticing yours was 500ms. I'm going to try a couple other things to get it smoother as well. The stock boot animation has a small animated gif in the middle of the screen with a black background, so I imagine the phone can handle that easier than a full 480x320 animation, so that's my next step. I was actually just about to post my animation in a separate thread, so I'll link that post here when I've done that.
EDIT: My initial attempt is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583094
There's still work to be done, so don't judge me to hard!

Why do you need screenshots of it on the the Touch Pro2? It looks exactly the same as it does on every other Android device, except those with customized home screens

If you want only the english language...you can ignure the steps with language... But you must change to 120 dpi and change the dialer (contacts.apk)....look here:
Htc ime... it´s a long way....
Start....:
Installation Instructions
1. Install both HTC_IME.apk and Clicker.apk.
2. Rename/remove the file /system/lib/libt9.so (I suggest renaming to libt9bk.so). You need root permissions to do this (the program Root Explorer works great.)
3. Menu -> Settings -> Locale & text. Enable 'Touch Input'.
4. Go to a text field and long-hold until a menu pops up.
5. Select 'Input Method' and then 'Touch Input'
1.1 Download the latest htc ime from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567294
or here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661525
2.1 make the system root/write access to change the name of libt9
- open terminal
- type "su"
- type "mount -o remount,rw /system"
... and then I could rename the file w/ Root Explorer (must be root explorer..i think)
3.1 change the language: look here:
http://ostebaronen.dk/changing-htc_ime-language-to-danish/
a bit easier: change to htc ime...go to sms and long press on the input text...now a menu come and you can change....
go in a explorer to: data/data/com.htc.android.htcime/shared_prefs/com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml (now visible)--and copy it to sd card...
open the xml and change the language code (like in the link)....copy it over the old one....
please do not change the lang setting in text input settings...(you don´t see a lang in this box now)
i think it was all
edit: for the correct view: change to 120 dpi....and take my corrected dialer:

Now it´s all...i hope
Super easy, you can get the HTC keyboard in 240x320.
Just follow the instructions,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661525
You will need to d/l the two files and install root explorer.
I'm curious - why do folks like the HTC one better?

Because we have now QWERTY(Z) compact qwerty and this is what i like a normal phone keypad...like a normal mobile phone
edit: @ GeJohnO...sorry..2nd link from me is the same...i only have a bigger statement because of language collect all important info´s and correct the 110 dpi issue (HTC_IME looks not good in 110 dpi)
With kind regards..Alex
personally i like the HTC keyboard because i feel the text prediction better because of the clicker.apk includes a calibration app and it seems to adapt to me alot fast than other keyboards.
i also like that if i want to use a number or symbol i can just long hold on a key instead of having to switch to a secondary menu all the time
also staticchmbr i feel like i know you from somewhere?

i do like the keyboard that it comes with, but my fingers are too big. i hit the "." when i mean to hit "space", and i hit other buttons when i dont mean to. i want something that will learn my keystrokes. my buddy was telling me about HTC_IME and clicker, but i cant seem to find the right files. i looked into a tatto build, and took the apk files, but they wont install. i get "this program can not install on this device" error
just seeing whats out there. i tried installing the 320x480 myns, but the screen doesnt line up right on anything for me.

That's your problem. You have a 240x320 hardware screen on the Vogue, and you are trying to use a resolution that it is not meant for. I do not understand why people think they can do this, and still expect things to function. First of all, you do not NEED the extra resolution, I run about 20 games and 15 apps on my phone, of all different sources, and 240x320 is fine. Secondly, use LCD density "113", just change the build.prop file before flashing NAND, and you are good to go. I have zero issues at all, with any apps.

i AM running the 240x320, but tried the 320x480 just in case that was the issue. finally got it installed, but everytime i run the calibration it says" SORRY, the application has stopped unexpectedly. please try again".. maybe i just dont have the right file? i got it from another topic on here:

Can someone please tell me what is wrong with the default Android keyboard? I am 6'7" tall, and my hands are HUGE. My pinky is bigger than my wife's thumb, and I actually text with MY thumb, just fine, which is friggin huge, and I have no issues.
I am just baffled, because I see these 'alternate keyboard' threads all the time, so obviously there must be an issue for some ppl with the keyboard, but I guess for once it is not for us fat-fingers folks. Is it hard to use for small fingers maybe? I am so curious about this as the Android keyboard is such a breeze for me to use.

Yeah, I love the speed of the default keyboard. I've tried Betterkeyboard, and all those, Shapewriter, I think just about every one, and while some are cool, and hold potential, for me none compare to the speed of input in the default. I can type pretty damn fast with the default.
The only keyboard I can see being significantly better is Touchpal. If you remember it from Winmo, it was a FAST and efficient keyboard. But the developer keeps promising a release date, and renigging on it. If you feel like a laugh, go check out the forums:
