Is There a way to extract Widgets from themes?? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i am using Teds Hero theme, but like the google search widget from "hero Mix" theme better, is there a way to extract it and install on other theme??

You should be able to just pull the apk out of the hero mix zip. And replace it with the one on teds zip and reflash the whole thing. Make a backup before just in case it doesn't work properly

looked for that but there is a GoogleSearch.apk but when i put that apk on my sd card and use appmanager to install doesnt work, but is that even the right APK for search widget?

you're not supposed to install them ... you have to adb push it back into system/app

Or you can just copy paste them into system/app using "root explorer"
dont forget to click the "remount as r/w" button on the top and make sure you reboot when your done.

experimental idea

I do not know how to make themes myself so I have to depend on others for that; however, I have this idea but I'm not sure if it will work, so I hope someone here can help me.
I really like the community hero mix theme, but I'd like to have a different launcher, the one from the NFL San Diego Chargers theme.
I've downloaded and flashed the vistalauncher.zip over the community hero mix theme to have the vista launcher instead of hero launcher. And I've noticed that in every theme file, there are a bunch of apk files, and there is one in called launcher.apk; so I assume that this apk is responsible for the look of the launcher ???
So I'd like to know if I could just replace the file launcher.apk in vistalauncher.zip with the launcher.apk that I extracted from NFL SD Chargers theme and flash that new file over the community hero mix theme to have what I want???
Thanks in advance for any help
This should be in the theme section or q&a. Anyhow you can just extract the Vista launcher.apk you want and push it with adb or terminal or rootfileexp, voila now u have the launcher you want along with the theme you want.
NICE, OK flashing

Can I just install the launcher.apk file the way I install every other apk files instead of pushing the file to the phone?? I tried pushing and I'm still very unsure how the process. I pushed the launcher.apk file that I wanted right? nothing came up, so I decided to push another launcher.apk file (a completely different file ) then the look of the launcher from the first launcher.apk file came up. So I just wanna know since it's an apk file, can I just install it the way we all install apk apps on the phone?
Also how do I access the root of my phone, I believe it's /system, right? and yes my phone has been rooted.
If you want to flash it you have to resign the file. To push the file do this in the recovery console
Code:
mount sdcard
mount system
cp /sdcard/Launcher.apk /system/app/Launcher.apk
rm /sdcard/Launcher.apk (to delete it off your sdcard after copying it since it is no longer needed on your sdcard)
reboot
That will replace the launcher with the one on your sdcard. You cannot install core apks like a regular apk since system is normally read only.

things that get installed to /system are considered core apps. things like the browser, launcher, music, camera,, those kind of things. you know the things that are on your phone even after you wipe everything and start fresh.

themed new facebook update??

has any one themed the new facebook apk v1.2? tryed renaming and morphing and i get a problem loading widget for the widget.. or any way to use my old themes and make it work? thanks
The update gets stored on data/app and i dont think you can metamorph apps in data..
Pull the .apk from data/app rename it to Facebook.apk and push it to system then you should be able to morph it....
Mine don t go there.I see it in SD ext it when I rename and try to move with my file manager to system app it never goes.any ideas.or what's the command to push it ? Thanks

[Theme] Kalagas Mixed Theme for FROYO 2.2 Special Edition RC1

Ported theme originally created by Kalagas for Milestone. So all credit and thanks go to him for giving me permission to port it.
Some parts of the theme may be from other themes but I've had them that long I can't remember who created them so if the creators recognise them I apologise in advance and hope you don't mind me using them in this theme. If this is breaking any rules I apologise and understand if you have to remove this theme but I would be grateful if you could let me know who I need to ask for permission to post this theme.

You need to completely remove Launcher Pro then install the launcher pro apk file. It's an apk file not an install zip so you need to copy it to your SD card then use whatever file browser your using and install the apk.

If your downloading LauncherPro-0.8.1.1.apk it is an apk file, it can be opened with compression software so the icon might look like a zip file but it's not.
Try it this way if you have adb installed on your computer
Open the Command prompt window for ADB. Copy LauncherPro-0.8.1.1.apk to "android-sdk-windows\tools" folder.
Type
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/*Launcher*
adb push LauncherPro-0.8.1.1.apk /system/app
exit
Reboot phone.

Maybe the "save as file type" somehow changed to .zip instead of .apk
Glad you got it working though

How to change icon apps on the app drawer? (rooted)

I'm trying to change the icons on the app drawer with Root Explorer but I can't find the correct PNG to replace that on the system/app/"application.apk"/res/drawable/_____.png
Anyone knows the right name of the icon?
Thanks!
res/drawable-hdpi/file_manager_r.png ypu will have to turn the apk into a zip then put your new file into the hdpi folder and change the zip back to an apk then re install
Can I follow this steps with the Captivate or I need to do this on the computer?
Any easy way?
Thanks for the tip!
hi, i changed an image in drawable-hdpi in "phone.apk" (ic_jog_dial_unlock.png) like aceman said, but if i try to install new phone.apk it says "application not installed" (or something similar, my language phone is not english). how can i install new phone.apk??
I tried to istall it from recovery and there is the same result
thanks
You have to push the phone.apk file into /system/app with a root explorer or adb. Just installing it won't work like most other apks.
i have "root browser", can i use it? can u say to me all the steps i have to do with it or adb? i'm not an android expert user...
up...anyone ca help me?
install a different launcher app that lets you customize it. try launcherpro from the android market.
you wont understand the mod instructions.
screw it here they are...
mod instructions... basic if you need more info. learn to search there are 4000 guides on how to change an app image.
you need winrar on windows. if you arent running windows you should know better.
use root level file manager to go to 'system/app' folder and copy your launcher.apk to sdcard.
copy to PC
right click .apk > open with... > choose program > WinRar
look through folders inside APK and copy all folders with .PNG images to desktop (or work folder)
look through the images in the folders (change veiw to thumbnails) and find the name of the image you want to change and the name of the folder it was in.
Go get, or create your custom image, and name it that name. **Close to original shape size.
Use winRar to open the .APK again and naviage to the place where your image goes and drop the new one into that folder.
A window with options will come up and select Compression Profile : STORE
Click ok
Close winrar.
Copy .apk to SDcard
Use root file manager to rename original /system/app/launcher.apk to launcher.apk.bak (backup)
Then copy your modded .apk to /system/app.
Reboot (pull battery)
DONT MESS WITH ANY IMAGE ENDING IN .9.PNG only regular .pngs
for more on .9.pngs... search google.. what is ....
i*have*to*modify*phone.apk,*no*launcher.apk..*i*just*did*steps*you*sayd,*but*if*i*try*to*rename*phone.apk,*my*nexus*goes*in*full*crash
fist off this is the Captivate forums. not nexus.
and i was giving help to OP question not yours. either way the *stars*and*sp ac*es are friggin annoying. use your computer if your phone is messed up.
if you "tried" to modify the name... DID IT? try doesnt tell me much.
if it wouldnt let you, then nothing changed and your phone is screwed up from something else.
if it DID rename, then CHANGE IT BACK.. duh.
sorry for space and *, i wrote it with the mouse using google translate keybord and i saw them when i cut/past the text
i "tried" to rename phone.apk, so the phone went in a full crash and i had to restore system using an old backup in recovery

Try apktool to extract all replace wteva ocon u want to and rebuild apk using the same tool and u need to sign the apk usin signapk tool so that device can recognise the.apk file for installation. I have done this and everything went fine in galaxy note. But i couldn't locate the file to rename the icon. Icon changing was not a prob.

Possible to theme Honeycomb Music Widget?

We've all seen/have/tried the Honeycomb Music Player apk. Now, for some of us, the cloud sync is working, and I'm suddenly really impressed by the player. But man, the widget it hideous. I know themers can't add album art support to the widget, but what about just matching it the honeycomb theme? The black with blue trim thing...
I've tried to ninjamorph, and I've a different way which used to work when theming the old widgetlocker, but every time the installation won't succeed. It seems that it's as simple as opening the files of the apk and changed "app_widget_bg", but it doens't work.
I attached the honeycomb dock that I wish to make the widget theme. I would just need to quickly add the trim all around it rather then just the edges, but, still, this would help so much.
Any help would greatly appreciated!

All you have to do is edit /replace the pngs in the apk then resign it. That was why it didn't install, you didn't resign. To resign:
1) Download the attached zip
2) extract it and you should get folder called SignApk
3) rename your honeycomb musik player.apk to "app.apk" (after modifying it ofcourse)
4) put it into the SignAPK folder
5) run "sign.bat"
6) an apk called app-signed should have been created
You can then rename this app if you want (it wont make a difference) and install it normally.
If you modify the image in the APK and then push to /system/app/, no installation should be necessary, nor resigning.

Push meaning ADB? I don't know how use that monster yet. I'm on a mac, and I've found that apkmanager or really any desktop version of android is much more difficult to find and run on macs.
If I get the modded .apk onto my SD card, then move it using root explorer to system/app , what does that do? Will it just automatically appear in my app drawer without being installed?

Is this different then using zipsigner on the phone? I put the modded folder onto my SD card, zip it up, rename it .apk, sign it using zip signer ... still no good.
Do I do your method from my computer or my phone?
So I tried to do it via the attached the zip, and it didn't work. I couldn't even run sign.bat to begin with (on either my phone of my computer).
I also modded the image using ninjamorph then put it in my system/app - and nothing happened.
Surely theming a simple widget is easy enough. Does anyone on here know the easiest way?
