Sound crapping out on my JF Cupcake, help please? :( - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

At first I thought it was related to me having apps on SD card but after throwing on a recovery image and having everything installed internally within phone I still have an annoying problem. The problem being sound craps out on me and I'm forced to reboot so it can come back. One of the most common culprits I found to this issue is when I'm playing music and I receive a call - chances are my sound will crap out on me and if I don't catch an instance of sound crapping out then I'm missing phone calls easily when phone isn't close enough to vibrate against me. I'm running on JF 1.5 on my G1 and again my apps are installed internally within phone at the moment. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

The only thing I can think to solve it is a wipe and reflash. If that doesn't help try a new Rom like cyanogen 3.6.8.1 its JF and cupcake based and fast

Reflash your radio, should fix it.

phone shuts off!!! help..

Can someone please help me..
I installed Cyanogen 3.4 when it got released a few days ago and it was running smoothly.. I think he is a genious. Just today my phone shut off on its own and I had to take the battery out and put it back in to get it to come back on. I don't know if it is Cyanogen or some sort of app, as I download apps quiet frequently. I am going to go through my apps now and also reinstall Cyanogen 3.4 tonight and leave my phone on all night. I guess I will have to see in the morning..
Anyways, can someone help
I ve fot sometimes the same issue with dudes cupcake which use th cygnonen kernel...
I ll be glad to have a fix
Are you overclocking the processor? That might contribute to it shutting down.
I do overclock but why do i have to 'battery pull' to make it reboot?
Yes, same issue here.
Uhh, again...
Powered up, set to standby, waited 1 min, shut down.
EDIT: I'm on Rogers Cyanigenized.
Same issue here. Complete lockup with screen off, have to pull battery to boot again. Seems to happen every 6-12 hours for me.
My Phone:
Cyanogen 3.4
radio 2.22.19.26I
Haykuro's SPL
Kernel 2.6.27.24-cm by [email protected] )
NOT overclocked, and no clocking tools even installed. Persists after several clean wipe and reflash also.
This thread's timing is great... I was just about to reset back to rc29 and build back up. Thought I was going to have to replace my phone

This question should probably be in the Dream section and will probably get locked/moved but Pulling the battery reset the "overclock" until it boots back up. This would be why pulling the battery helps.
hey you don't havbe to pull battery just push end call start call and menu all at once it will reboot you phone
Ok, thanks to Jakob, we know, that android freezes, is doesn't shut down.
I now tested with and without overclock, it made no matter to me not to overclock, there's no difference.
But I experienced it didn't happen when it's connected to a charger..
mysterious..
This keeps hapening to me, first it was happening in Cyanogized Rogers rom, then in The Dudes 1.3 b 12, I'm flashing JAC1.62 right now, this never happened to me before I got my class 6 16gb and started using apps2sd
Just curious, does this happen to anyone without a2sd
i'm having the same problem
seems to happen in the builds using the Cyanogen kernel. I'm sure this issue will iron itself out in future releases so just sit tight.
I too am having the problem on the Cyanogen 3.4 build. Its definately a change in 3.4 as I didn't have this problem in any of the 3.3 betas. I'm doing Apps2SD as well.
One thing I have noticed as well is that networking has been acting flakier than normal.
I had this issue on the pre-cupcake radio but not as frequent, so maybe it's just an amplified version of the same problem? There was a thread about it before but I'm too lazy to search for it.
The hangs was the only reason I moved to virtududes rogers rom v3
I'm going to try and get this sorted out tomorrow. For some reason the OOM killer kicks in sometimes and kills a critical process like zygote.
atleast you don't have this problem!
I've reflashed, wiped, formatted and apps2sd2 or sdpsplit, so many times already... trying different ways for each. But same thing always happens... my memory card gets damaged then wiped all by itself.
Uninstall toggle Setting and use Reparing Ext partition with Cyonagen recovery seems to fix this issue
So happy I found this thread! I'm using Google Ion and having this issue since yesterday. So annoying. Anyone got a fix?
I`m having the same problem, the phone freeze, looks like is a hardware problem, i`m on CRC1
I have started to have this issue as well. I am currently running Cyan4.1.999. It happened yesterday while on a call, after a call, and also while the phone was on charge.
Solutions?

Please help!!!!!,g1 keeps crashing.

I'm having some real issues it seems. I recently rooted my g1 about 2 weeks ago I'm running jf 1.5.1. My problem is that as soon as I rooted my phone I started to get all kinds of messages on my phone about my apps not responding no matter what I was doing, even apps I wasn't using the one i get the most is for bugreport. then last night when I was doing some stuff on my computer while I was charging my g1 with the usb, I made the most retard mistake ever when I set my comp to sleep I forgot I was charging and I didn't eject. Now when ever i try to use my phone for more then a call or a text Its crashes to the boot screen with the G1 symbol and then restarts. And yes this also damaged my Sd card, I reformatted it last night and it was fine then this morning when it crashed again It said my sd card was damged and i need to reformat it again, I figured **** it I will buy a new one, a much better one then I had before because I run swapper so I figure that swapper had something to do with it bricking my sd card
as you can probably tell from reading this I am new to this rooting stuff and I really just want it to work right If you need more information just tell me I will gladly do anything I possible can to have my phone work smoothly again, I reside in Las vegas If any one is from there that is willing to help me I will gladly even bring it to you.
Thank you for your time.

do a wipe and flash a new rom
So basicly just re root the phone? If I do this can you tell me what I will lose in my phone? also will this completely fix my problem or is my actual phone damgaged?
will this also fix my sd?
bump bump bump
You don't have to reroot. Just get another rom or reflash the same rom and see if it still happens.
Just wipe and reflash..
however I like your idea better, buy a new G1 and send me your old on, everyone wins!
So I wiped my G1 and flashed Jf 1.5.1 abd1 onto it again and it seems to be working fine again, can any one tell me if there was a better choice then the jf rom? So know that I'm basicly back to square one,can any one point me to a thread or site that will tell me how to get the most out of it both app wise and performance wise.
thanks for the help from ever one who posted,I think I'll be stick'n to this forum for all of my android related questions, " oh **** do I hear dontation"!!!!

Audio Problem... Help!

Ok so I'm running CM 4.0.4 no theme installed. My problem is that everytime I'm lisening to music on my g1, I will get a text message or a call and it basically makes it so there is no audio for ANYTHING. Even if I'm lisening to a song and I try to take a picture it will do the same thing. I don't understand what the problem is. Before I rooted it wasn't a problem I could lisen to music and do anything I wanted and get any call or text etc. I had CM 4.02 and I had the same problem. I figured if I upgrade it would fix the problem but it didn't fix a damn thing.... other then that my phone runs really fast and smooth =)
Any ideas?

you can try reflashing the radio, if you have cyanogen's 1.4 recovery image then you will have to rename it to update.zip, and flash with the keyboard and reboot with home and back because of a bug with radio and spl flashes with his recovery image.
if that doesn't work i think there is an app in the market call ongoing music adapter or something like that. (i think i remember reading a long time ago about something like what you are describing happening and that is what some people did and they said it worked though i would try flashing the radio first)
edit: how is it you choose to reply to the same thread around the same time i do xidomicanoix? are you clairvoyant?

damn you found out my secret
idk man just checking the forums before i go to bed and happened to come upon this thread
Ok so I think its fixed now. I re-downloaded the radio image and installed it I think the radio I had was corrupted or something but I swear it was installed? I'm not 100% sure if the problem is fixed I will find out later on today 4 sure though and I will let you guys no. Going to bed now.
I had that same problem, the radio update fixed it.
the radio is a pain in the arse. I had bluetooth issues, radio fixed it. then after a couple of cyan updates I was going to a college football game so I installed the audiohack to make sure I would hear the phone ring. When it didn't work I reflashed the radio and it started working. For this reason I keep the radio image on my sdcard and reflash it everytime I update the rom. just FYI, keep the radio on your card.

Need Help/Opinions

So yesterday my wife sat her g1 in a cuphold with just the tiniest amount of liquid...she dried it out and it worked fine for a while
Then she started getting force closes on everything (myspace, facebook, weatherbug) Then the touchscreen quit working. She decides then to tell me about the liquid thing, but im thinking "this doesnt sound like liquid, it sounds like a software/rom issue"
So this is what I have done thus far.
Reflash CM-same issues
Wipe-didnt fix
Thinking it may be an SD card problem (apps force closing), I put my SD card in it-didnt fix it
Next step was reflash signed_dream_devphone_userdebug....whatever
Wiped, reflashed the above, then flashed CM to it.
Still no touchscreen!
Any ideas?
If not, its for sale!
UPDATE: Home for lunch, and im downloading a new copy of signed-Dream_devphone...going to try again
The force closes are software, I'd bet, but if after a full wipe and flash of CM the touchscreen isn't working, you may very well be looking at a hardware problem.

[Q] nexus one have no sound ~~help

who can help me ,my nexus one can not make any sound,
I'm not sure if i can help you.
But I'm pretty sure anyone who does needs a little bit more information.
Is your N1 rooted or not? If yes which Rom do you use?
What happened before it stopped making sounds?
I could imagine that could be usefull for people trying to help.
Make a complete wipe and see if it helps
Hi!
Initially had this issue when I bought my N1 (a store sample) and it re-surfaced a week ago. Now this is from experience only, so I'm not pretending to know whether "your N1 fails to initialize soundboard for reason X"....
Issue that I solved succesfully is this:
I had no sound from the phone speaker (no ringing, no alerts, no music) - and actually all phonecalls were also silent (and ended up rebooting the phone about 15 secs into the call). What's freaky is that I was able to play music, hear alerts, take calls etc. over my headphones!
I was suspecting something to be wrong with the ringtones from the SD card.
So before wiping your phone (even with nandroid recovery it's a b*tch of a job) try this: Reset all alert tones to some default tones (which are in the rom). Turn N1 off, remove SD & sim, then let it reboot. Then power down, insert sim, keep SD out. Reboot. You should get the tones/sounds/in-call audio back after a few tries of these combinations. You can also try unmounting/remounting the card repeatedly. Also, it may help if you have a second SD card ready (empty or without). When you get the sound back, you can again start using your custom tones off the SD card.
(I usually wipe any unused ringtones in the process, and have even removed the tones from my card, and then reinserted them on the SD, which also seems to work after a few power-down/power-up cycles.)
Sorry, it's totally "unscientific" but if you have, say, half an hour to a full hour to spare do the above and your N1 will be back on track.
Pistolero0 is right we could use a little more info. Another thing that I would like to know is can you play sound through the headphone jack or Bluetooth or is it just the phone speaker.
Uh-oh... Just when I answered, I got the same problem again. This time, it's taken me a day to cycle/recycle. I've gotten the sounds back twice, only to lose them due to a random re-boot. I'm still suspecting it's a question of the SD notifications/ringtones messing up something in the system. (Or it's due to a certain app getting installed or uninstalled.)
So, the sound sometimes comes back, sometimes doesn't.
So, I'm also asking for help on this one....
Symptoms
No in-call audio whatsoever
No audio through internal speaker (the ear-speaker)
No audio through the speakerphone-speaker (on the back)
No notification sounds, no alarm sounds, no ringing.
Music cannot play (the track doesn't seem to advance).
All audio works over bluetooth headset - I can hear notifications/ringtones/alarms, screenlock sound, and even music (winamp & stock).
However, I still cannot make a call over BT (I do hear the ringing, but the audio doesn't connect on an incoming call. Outbound calls are completely silent on BT phones as well.
No sound whatsoever over the standard plugin HF-headphones (the ones that came with the N1).
So my plea is also, how do I fix this? (Wiped & Nandroid-backuped once, but the problem resurfaced, so I don't think that's the thing, then).
EDIT: Now trying the passimg method (FRG83-->GRI40-->root-->GRJ22+SU.zip) - I guess I should have done this aways back, (like 3months ago when I got my N1) but didn't.
There we go, froyoed for a while
EDIT: Now trying the passimg method (FRG83/D/G --> GRI40 --> root --> install GRJ22 update + SU.zip via clockwork) — I guess I should have done this aways back, (like 3months ago when I got my N1) but didn't.

What a bummer... Froyo, but NO sound. [O]I guess it is a hardware thing then after all, despite all the evidence I've seen so far?[/O]
RESULTS
Some hours later am now back on rooted stock GRJ22, but still no sounds. This must then be a hardware thing - albeit one that doesn't manifest itself always.
Suspecting something is wrong with the 3,5mm plug? (Or a wire is crossed somewhere, which silences the ear-speaker and speakerphone speaker alike).
Still suffering. Anyone got an idea?
Did anyone get their problem solved?
Well I've never had this problem but can I ask you a question when you flash do you use 3X system wipe and 5X data/cache wipe because I don't really think this is hardware cause or else in theory if it is hardware the problem should stay even after a reflash unless it is consistent with something else (example every time you hit X amount of memory used, every time you hit X amount of run time, etc).
So try the 3X system and 5X data/cache and see what happens.

You mean first do the system + data/cache wipes, then flash?
By system wipe, you mean the usual reset-to-factory status kind of wipe?
And how do you proceed with the data/cache wipe? Like, with Titanium or some other choice?
Sorry for the n00biness, I try not to flash schtuff too often. Anyway, I'm going to try your suggestion out as soon as I can.
Sorry for the late reply I haven't had much free time lately but why I say system wipe I mean either use temasek system wipe (if on Amon RA) or the built in wipe system option in clockwork mod depending on your recovery. And for data/cache that is the factory reset.
Update - One Factory Servicing Later, a fix of sorts
Okay. After two weeks of consternation I walked to the service center.
6 wks later (that would be today) I got my N1 back....
Motherboard had been replaced, rigid flex had been replaced, antenna had been replaced. Warranty repairs on level 1 & level 2 had been done. Anyway, quiiiiite happy now.
And yes, I do have sound. Luckily, I was still within warranty, and will continue to be. Lovely.
(Presently going back the FRG83 - FRG83D - FRG83G - GRI40 (gingerbreak root) - GRJ22 route).
