Hello gentlemen! I would like to hear your opinion about my problem, hopefully there is a good soul outhere that knows how to help me. A couple nights ago I was at the club where an asrsehole bouncer knocked my phone out of my hands while chasing some crackhead. By the time I picked up my x1 those three guards were gone. My device fell onto carpeted area and battery cover came off taking the battery with it. THe device does not have any visible physical damage, but when I try to turn it on, I only receive one vibration but nothing happens afterwards. Tried everything (soft/hard reset), it is not recognised by any pc, and it wouldn't flash a single LED just that one vibration. I'd send it to SE for repair but I have HardSPL on it and I'm unable to flash it in this condition. The boot loader isn't coming up either.... Please help me find a solution, i searched these forums but haven't met a single similar problem !!!!
Warranty would not cover dropping the phone anyway, so what's the problem ? Send it to the SE, you will just have to pay something. In case they change whole board, it's gonna be a lot.
Hmm, I just took it apart and cleaned it from inside. Noticed there is a little button cell battery next to optical joystick on the front piece.
-Is it similar to CMOS/RTC backup, does it perform the same thing in X1 as if it was a PC?
-What would happen if I temporarily disconnected it from a circuit would the device lose it's HardSPL?
Can anyone please tell me what it does for Xperia?
Ihh, why on earth did you take it apart by yourself?
If there were NO visible damages on the phone the warranty should have kicked in ... even though it says that it doesn't cover falls. If there are no visible marks on the phone, it's really really hard to prove that the device actually fell.
In anyway you should have sent it to SE.
And to answer your question ... i think the small battery is indeed what powers the flash memory when the battery empty or missing. Disconnecting it would probably have the same results as a hard reset...I doubt that the HARD-SPL would be erased.

but yea send it to SE center
Hi,
I'm having a total nightmare. Over the past few days my handset has been a nightmare. I was out last Saturday, and dropped my phone when it was raining. When I checked the phone it seemed to be OK, but there was some water still on the battery when I woke up and removed the cover on Sunday morning.
The phone seemed to be working OK at the time, but over the week there have been 2 issues.
1. The hardware buttons stop working intermittently. At first, the Call Send and Call End buttons were the wrong way around, but then now they have totally stopped functioning. The volume keys no longer work also. (The standby button on top is fine).
2. Every so often, the phone will go crazy, and its almost as if someone is pressing the buttons. It keeps going into Quick Launch mode and switching to Airplane Mode, and also keeps dialing Voicemail by itself.
I've just ran through the troubleshooting on the T-Mobile site, and it ask "Is the indicator sticker white?" - Mine is red
I am then told I have voided my warranty.
When I got handset, TMOB asked whether I wanted insurance. I said No because I thought I had it through my bank (I pay like £6 per month for my account and one of the advantanges you can choose is mobile phone insurance)
For this reason, I declined to take out the T-Mobile insurance.
This evening, Ive checked my banks insurance page on the website and in the small print is states:
Phones which have a primary use for the making and receiving of telephone calls, SMS text messages and data. We do not cover PDA type devices. Please see the definition of mobile phone/phone in section B of the Policy Document. If you are unsure as to whether your handset can be covered please contact us
Section B:
Mobile Phone/Phone
Your handset and SIM card specifically identified by the IMEI number and mobile phone number. The handset must be your property or responsibility. Your SIM card will not be covered unless it was inserted into the SIM card slot of the phone at the time of the incident.
The handset must be a hand-held electronic device for which its main use is for the making and receiving of telephone calls, SMS text messages and data. We do not cover devices which have Windows Mobile®, Symbian OSTM, or Palm® operating systems or a similar PDA type of interface, whose primary function is of a business nature. The cover of handsets will be at our discretion, and if you are unsure as to whether your handset can be covered please contact us.
Now, its too late to take out the T-Mobile insurance and I am stuck with a handset which doesnt work.
I am fully aware this is my own stupid fault.
I've been trying to check repair websites, but they seem to claim with Water Damage, there is no certainty that they will be able to fix the device, and it might come back in a worse state than it was sent in.
Any advice that could be offered would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know whether you can pay HTC directly to repair your device? I've tried calling but they are now closed.
HTC does service but they are slow.
Try putting the phone in a zip lock with some white rice, this will dry it out completely.
You have probably damaged the electronics due to using it when it was wet, however I would remove the battery and try to dry it as best you can before putting power back to the unit.
once heard that you can get the red dot back to white with some bleach.
Never tried it though

I heard HTC sued some people for trying that trick. so be careful!
As far as rain/water damage goes...the rice bag trick has worked for me in the past, as well as taking the phone apart and cleaning all the contacts, etc with alcohol.
My phone is in for repair (thankfully under warranty) at the moment, so i'm half feeling your pain.
Good luck!
Thanks Drag-on.
Thanks for the advise guys, will let you know how I get on
If it can start and operate, the device is probably able to be safe. At this moment, the moisture in the electronic board is shorting out. I would start with using a hair drier to dry out the moisture. Hot air it a few minutes and cycle this a few times within an hour should have the moisture removed. Hopefully, there are no residue left behind by the water that is 'conductive'.
For proper cleaning, I think the best is use either alcohol swaps or contact cleaner aerosol to clean the PCB boards, buttons.
Hope it will recover.
my topaz is having similar problems as mentioned by the OP but it didn't get wet ever. however the humidity has been on the higher side for last 2-3 weeks at this place, could that be the reason for this misbehaviour? the h/w keys (except for power button) and volume keys are not working at all as i make this post

Have you tried placing in a bag of rice to draw the moisture out?
Not sure if humidity could cause this but it's worth a try.
Otherwise I would assume worn contact points.
i dont have any idea about "bag of rice" yet so didnt try. but i kept it shut down for the whole night and buttons are working right now. it could def be the moisture problem.
PS: so while trying out this 'bag of rice' thing, should i disassemble the phone first or just i've to keep it as such? and as i said it never got wet, would it be better to just use a hair dryer?

The hair dryer can push the moisture around and cause more damage. Plus if its on heat, that too can damage something.
For the rice, just get a zip lock bag, put the rice in it then place the phone on top and seal the bag. No need to disassemble. The rice will draw the moisture out. I think a few hours would be suficient.
Glad you got it working again.

thanks Bruce, i'll try the Rice method and till then i'll just keep it turned off with no battery inside.
Just a short update about using rice, obviously you will use uncooked rice. Also, if you have or can find the vacumn bags, put the rice and phone and battery in the bag and get as much air out as you. The vacumn will help in pulling the moisture out of the device, and of course the rice absorbs the moisture. I used this trick on a Moto Razr that had been completely under water while on. Powered down, removed battery, rice, phone, battery into ziplock vacumn bag, one day later...perfect condition.
none of the methods mentioned above worked, so i took it to HTC service centre and it turns out that the motherboard has to be replaced which is gonna cost around 160 USD.

yeah, and my warranty was over just a month ago. so its just unfortunate and my bad luck
Don´t panic
Thats´s ok, my Topaz have felt into a water, LCD haven´t works, SD slot have been destroyed.. I send it for guarantee, and they made it everything ok for free I get new button, new LCD and motherboard for free.. Try to send it
EDIT: woops, warranty ended.. Go, and make grave for your device
I recently submitted my X1 for warranty repair and it was mailed back unrepaired.
I suppose a few beads of sweat made it into the casing and caused a little corrosion around the microphone.
This voided the warranty.
Feelings I had nothing to lose I carefully disassembled the phone and cleaned the corroded parts with contact cleaner.
Upon reassembling the phone turned on and operated as norm.
Except now it's constantly saying "No service" I can't connect to Tmobile but I can connect to wifi.
Any suggestions?
just a thought: did you already check/rerun your connection setup?
Yeah I sure did,
When i reinsert the sim the auto connect feature kicks in
It pulls up Tmobile, I select it and it configured
But the antenna stay reds/exclamation point.
I try to search for a network and it just says no service
Does this mean the hardware is working because it see's it initially?
I took it apart again tonight cleaned up a little more corrosion...Sigh to no avail as far as the mic
But all the connections around the antenna appear to be good
Bad news!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the same thing happened to me, and apparently, it's irreversible.
The phone has two antenna modules; one on the top around the camera lens and sensor, which is responsible for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS signals, and another on the bottom that is responsible for cellular voice and data signals. This explains why your Wi-Fi is working; because it relies on a different antenna and a different transceiver (transmitter/receiver) chip.
As for why you are not getting any service, there can only be one explanation: your Power Amplifier (PA) chip is toast. That chip is responsible for drawing power from the battery to boast the cellular signal enough to penetrate walls and such, thus sustaining a connection. Try your phone outdoors, if it's working, then you only blew up your PA. If not, then maybe you blew up your cellular transceiver altogether in the process of disassembling and reassembling the phone.
The only way to verify this will be sending your phone again to the service centre. They connect a test kit to your main board to check the on board chips. That's what happened to me, I disassembled the phone to clean around the microphone too as many people were complaining about static noise on the line when I call them. My phone is currently at the service centre awaiting a final decision by Sony Ericsson either to give me a free main board, a free X1, a free X2 or refund 75% of the retail price I paid, as they ruled out that the PA chip failure is caused by bad grounding and isolation, which the disassembly process (even if done carefully) can sort of exploit.
Sorry mate!
why would they give you free anything?
You opened up the device which voids the warranty

I don't think he told them that...
Sony Ericsson's Incompetency and HTC's Bad Q.C.
I didn't tell them I disassembled the phone. I think almost X1 owner out there have had it with Sony Ericsson and HTC for bringing such a poorly built device to the market and charging premium for it. We will all be in denial if we keep saying that the X1 is the best phone ever. We wanted it to be, but it's just not. Problems existed from day 1: buggy software on release, battery cover finish, slider cable, battery red light, keyboard, weak signal, headphone jack, cracks, LED module, Vibration motor, etc... The list is endless really. I paid U.S. $800 for my X1, spent another U.S. $100 on cases and screen protectors, treated the phone better than I treat my Oakley’s, and it still didn't last more than one year. For the love of God, I had never even put it down on any surface what so ever, except for my car seat, without placing a Microfiber cloth or something below it. The stress owning this phone had caused is equal or even greater than the joy using it had brought. I absolutely loved the panels and the things I used to do with it, I even bought the Sony Ericsson Aspen recently, regardless of the Windows Phone 7 launch, but still it was just too damn stressful to take care of it. Cleaning the dust between the body and the keyboard daily so as not to scratch the finish on the keys of the slide out keyboard, being extremely careful when sliding it in and out, how slowly you have to push headphones in and pull them out of that insanely tight socket, all that have made me extremely angry at Sony Ericsson.
There is another thread in the Q&A section started by a user who has the same problem, only that time it happened AT Sony Ericsson's service centre BY a Sony Ericsson's repairman. Why would a Power Amplifier chip fail with no electricity connected to it upon disassembling/reassembling the phone if it weren't properly protected against Mechanical Stress? Mechanical Stress that even a Sony Ericsson technician couldn't discover?! If I have to trick them to get what I paid for, or get part of my money back, I will. They sure tricked us all to buy that piece of... incompetent engineering I would say in the least.
One more thing...
In Egypt, the warranty period is only one year long. Mine ended in June 2010, so I was already without warranty when I disassembled the phone. The fact that they couldn't discover that it was disassembled further seduced me to play the Angry Costumer role, and so far it is working. Worst case scenario, I will just take it back and use it as a Wi-Fi based portable Internet device around the house, and an In-Car Media & Navigation device on the move.
So, the screen on my Note 4X broke, and I wanted to replace it. Long story short, the battery is glued down hard as **** and I managed to damage it, and it burst into flames. I'm fine, I was prepared, nothing but the phone suffered any damage.
But now I'm sitting here, with a phone that's basically still fine minus the frame and the battery, and I still want to repair it.
I'm faced with two questions, first of all, I managed to find (I think) every part I need, but one eludes me. I don't even know what it's for. You can see it here (minute 9:11-9:27):
https://youtu.be/MQazwoEssN0?t=556
It says "C6_LEDFPC_V1.0" on mine. Google tells me nothing about that, and it's not a part I have seen on the repair shop sites. It doesn't even seem to be present on complete frame+display assemblies like this one:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/LCD...edmi-Note-4X-hongmi-Red-Rise/32810566637.html
And apart from that, I wonder if I missed any part.
I still have:
A new display+digitizer, the back cover, the mainboard with the SoC and the two cameras, the PCB with the charging board, the battery cable, the sim tray, the fingerprint reader, the loudspeaker.
I need:
A new frame, an earpiece, the mainboard flex cable, the side key flex cable, a battery, and the one mysterious piece.
Is that everything? Does everyone has a basic list of all the parts?

I've been thinking that in the video, the guy switched on the phone without that part. so that part shouldn't be a very major component. In my opinion, it can be some sort of sensor. I personally feel its a magnet screen sensor for covers with smart wake up function.
The reason I say this is because when i touch a small magnet on the entire front panel, It gets stuck on that same point.
However I am not very sure as the smart wake is not triggered. Maybe it is because I am on LineageOS.
Hope It turns out helpful.
You will probably need the vibrator motor too, its quite small and easy to lose as I've found.
one like this:

That part is the LED for the capacitive buttons. Not important at all if you cant find it
Hey guys,
So I've personally owned this device before and sold it, however, luckily I was looking about on Craigslist and managed to run into a post where this lady was selling her Midnight 128gb OP3T for $10 due to the wifi not working. The phone is literally spanking new and the only thing I can think of is water damage. She said the wifi suddenly stopped working and spoke with OnePlus Tech support and wasn't going to pay $275 to fix it so she just wanted it gone. So I figured whats there to lose, right? I went home performed a factory reset on the phone and the wifi actually was working. Then I realized it's intermittently working. I found that out because after sometime it suddenly disables itself and I have to sleep the device for like two minutes and it'll kick back on. The proximity sensor is also dead too. I did the *#808# to test the sensor and nothing is generated. These are the only real issues this phone has. The loud speaker also sounds a bit off... I'm sure I could easily replace that too.. It could just be me. I've posted the snapshot of the proximity sensor test. The wifi was currently working when I took that snapshot and like I said it's a hit or miss.
I haven't gotten into the device just yet, however, I'm planning to check the water damage sticker once I do as that is my suspicion. I'm waiting on my tool set I ordered on Amazon at the moment. My question is, do you think replacing the wifi antenna cable will fix the wifi connectivity issue? The phone is currently on 8.0 Oreo and I haven't tried performing a complete reset/restore so I'm not sure that could be a fix. Also the phone doesn't get too hot and usually with water damaged devices the phone typically overheats pretty fast due to corrosion. I guess I'll find out after I open the device, but for now do you guys have any other suggestions? I've heard of the whole IPv6 intermittent wifi issues and can assure I have IPv6 disabled.
Thanks for taking the time to read my question!
The WIFI thing isn't something I think you can just replace, I think you would just need to replace the board right?
Yes, you would need to replace the mainboard of the phone. However 10$ is quite cheap for a spare screen and midnight black metal casing. Just find a cheap 3T with broken screen and switch mainboard with that one and you have a working phone. [emoji16]
Before doing that, check the phone's board and look for corrosion. If you find any, try cleaning it up gently, with some alcohol and if you manage to get it all cleaned up, try testing it again to see if it solves the problem.
If you get the schematic for this device and have a boardview program you could find the wifi circuitry..... it is more than likely some short to ground due to the fact that you are feeling heat.... due to liquid damage or not. Sometimes changing a small component can fix the issue but you need a microscope, heat gun, solder pencil, etc......
