How do i get album art in my music app? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

whether its hero or any other rom, i never see album art when playing music.
I have the album file on my desktop, the cover art pic is in it, i copy it to the music folder in my sd card.
What else am i supposed to do to be able to see the cover art when playing music? It sure would make the app a lot cooler...thanks

The pic has to be in the id tag.

i see, and what would an id tag be?

Check out MP3 Tag or Media Monkey. They both do a good job of looking up and updating MP3 tags. I use the latter personally.

interesting, downloading now. this will probably sound stupid but will the media monkey help me put together a file that has the music and an automatically recognizable image (ie cover art)? thanks

Anyone know any apps for Ubuntu that would work? I have EayTag, but after injecting the album art to ID3 it still doesn't show on the phone :-(

Mp3 Album Art from ID3v2 tags

Hi....
Was wondering, are there any good Mp3 players that work well with the wizard that can display album art that is embeded into the mp3 via ID3v2 tags?
I suppose there is no way to do this with Windows Media Player?
i remember once using TCPMP and it displayed album art.
I just don't understand why this functionality would not be included with Windows Media Player.
yeah, I feel ya. I do know that if you place your mp3/wma in its own folder and include a picture file names as "folder.jpg" it will show in the windows media player. Hope they get that feature soon though where it can read directly from the id2tag.

This is true. And if you use TagRunner, it'll download the art and embed it into the tag, as well as make a jpg in the same folder with the same name. Makes it pretty easy.

Media Player and Album Art

So, when running media player are you suppose to see the Album Art? I would assume the Blue Box I am seeing is where the art could be displayed but of course I only see a blue box in the upper/left and scrolling information in the bottom of this box about the mp3 that is playing.
yes you're supposed to see the cover.
Has the mp3 you're playing the cover in its tag ?
If you transfer your mp3s using WMP on your computer, do you have the covers ?
Yes, I see the Album art in Media Player and in iTunes on my Vista PC. Also, all other meta data is seen on the Tilt by going to the properties of the mp3.
This is how it looks in my folder on vista.
How did you put the mp3s you're playing on your tilt ? Did you use the sync function of WMP ? If you've just transfered it using explorer, it may not work because I think WMP is using a little picture of the cover instead of the corresponding tag in the mp3.

I only direct copied it... that could be it.
yup-
to get the album art-ya gotta synch it through media player
You are both correct, after using Media Player to sync up "Dark Side of the Moon" I got album art (I see the little jpg file it places in the directory with the mp3 files). That is rather stupid but at least I know now.
Thanks for you time and helping with my stupid question.
Most of the mp3s I direct copied kept their cover art (manually added in itunes) but 1 or 2 albums didn't. The only thing I can see in common is that the albums that didn't bring their cover art were the albums that itunes automatically found art for. The albums I added the covers manually kept theirs. Funny.....

Cover Art?

Does anyone know how TF3D loads cover art? Only a couple of my songs ever seem to have any art visible...
Ok; I've figured out how TF3D displays cover art - it completely ignore the hidden "AlbumArt**" files created by a WMP synch and uses the album art "embedded" in the file itself. Copying album art into your clipboard and "pasting" it in WMP (Right click on a song and left click on "Paste Album Art") tags the file with the album art in such a way that TF3D shows it. The next question then is how to do that en masse... Any suggestions?

It also picks up the folder.jpg file so if you keep that in each album's folder, you'll have all your album art.
Not work for me...
I'm putting my music into folders divided to Artist and in each artist folder there are folders with albums and music.
For example:
\Internal Storage\Music\Dream Theater\Falling Into Infinity\files.mp3
and for cover art:
\Internal Storage\Music\Dream Theater\Falling Into Infinity\Falling Into Infinity.jpg
But no covers.
What I'm doing wrong?
I don't want to put all my music into one folder! And all mp3 tags in files are OK.
OK, after a lot of experimentation, these are the steps that work perfectly for me.
Open WMP
Select all songs in the album, then right click -> Find Album Info
Select the appropriate information; this will define the album art
Select Sync and drag the album there
Synchronize
Reset Diamond
Voila - your album should be on the phone, with the album art as well.
Good luck!

Thanks, but I don't want use WMP for managing my music files. I'm looking for simple solution, without playlist, just to put files to any place i want, put jpg file with album cover and that is it. Just copy/paste. Without syncing with WMP and all other crap players.

You haven't bothered reading the Sticky thread on reading my articles before asking questions, have you? I've answered your q at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415063 , which is also a sticky thread...
All in all, create a Folder.jpg and that's all.

You don't need to sycn with the desktop WMP to have album art either - simple file copy will make sure it's transferred to the handset. Again, I recommend my dedicated bible.

Quite a comprehensive article that is... Thank you.
The most important step after copying the files is RESET! For some deep reason, it won't update all the images if you don't do that.

Thank you, but i Know everything about ripping music and appopriate tagging. No problem with that.
The most confusing thing for me here was renaming that art image to "folder.jpg". This is confusinf, a named that file like name of the album folder and I see now that names must be exactly "folder.jpg". After renaming and soft-reset, everything is works fine.
Thanks again.

Yup, it's a naming convention with WMP. For example, LCG Jukebox uses another naming convention incompatible with that of WMP.
Hm, I myself had some issues with album art. Not that it aint possible to listen to music without those, but thats not the reason we all bought us a diamond an ruined guarantee within the first 5 minutes.
To the Point: I found many ways in this forum to get my arts to display, but what i did not find is the following:
If you use the covers within the mp3tag (I tagged all of my mp3s with mp3tag) my diamond will show them immediately. BUT ONLY if the tags are ID3v2.3 ISO 8859-1 or ID3v2.3 UTF 16. It will not show on ID3v2.4 UTF 8 or any other non-conform ID Tag.
So if you have tagged your mp3s correctly, theres no need to sync playlists or whatever. Just copy the mp3s to your internal memory, go to the player tab in TF3D and voila, there they are, via a ~htc.cover.jpg or something like that. A soft-reset is unneccessary as well.
Im using Bepes German Rom 0.97_fixed btw.

HTC Hero Music app in DrizzyDrake Rom 2.8

All,
I have the current DrizzyDrake 2.8 Hero ROM installed and I'm loving it. very, very little lag....
However, does anyone know wher to put the album art for it to show in the music widget? I have the album .jpgs in the same folder as the music but the artwork is still blank on the widget.
Cheers, JJ

I use "Tag&rename" (it's shareware) to add the jpg's to the ID3 tags. It works fine, but does anyone know any freeware, possibly for Linux?
The android stores the album art on a seperate folder in the sd card. I think it is the same folder, albumthumbs. It has a file that is synced over when you sync your music, and there is no way to just drop the art in. Do the following:
1. assuming you are using wmp, highlight all of the tracks in said album that you want to sync, and right click
2. go to advanced tag editor
3. pictures tab
3. select a pic for your cover art (can retrieve from amazon mp3 or wherever)
4. choose cover (front
5. save and resync
6. before the album art will display you will need to play the song for it to update
(note: even if wmp is displaying an album cover this will still need to be done, upon resync the albumart file will be stored in the folder automatically)

I use http://perl.thiesen.org/scripts/id3image to add a JPG to an MP3 (uses the APIC tag). It's a commandline PERL script.
Having said that, I'm having some problems with the HTC MP3 player picking up some of the ID3 information - JPG corruption, ID3v1 .vs. ID3v2, etc. Still need to do some research before copying over my 8 gigs
Cheers,
Rich

Album picture in the music player

Why the music player doesn't show the picture of the album during playing a song? Only for some is working even if the picture are present on the laptop and are showed in the player of the laptop
Happens to me all the time. I don't know why. All I guess is that windows reads the tags differently than android. I use album art grabber from the market. For a very small price it works very well. Very good and simple app.

I second this
I think it only displays album art that is embeded in a file. No album art that I have as just jpg's in a folder show up.
Shows all my album art for me! You just gotta tag everything correctly, just use mediamonkey or mp3tag.

Rename the art to AlbumArt.jpg and it gets read. Also, if art is not showing up, play a track from the album, and restart the music player.

Hmm, you try the auto tag thingy or are you adding jpgs? Mp3Tag searches amazon for tag info and downloads album art too (i think directly into the mp3) and when it downloads it works for me. Mediamonkey's autotag service seems to be down or something but it was working on friday .
I still think the easiest solution is to use Album Art Grabber. It only costs a few dollars and takes a few seconds to run. Here's a little review of the app. http://htcsource.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=630&Itemid=46
If you have any suggestions for it, the developer is great at responding to feedback. I know he's already working on a few updates that will make it even better.
Album Art Grabber +1
Another vote for Album Art Grabber. Bought it yesterday, works great, super easy. Definately worth the money.
I'm trying too album art grabber and it works perfectly!
I'm nerdy and tagging my mp3s properly, so no need for extra software. I think Windows uses ID3v1 to display info in folders etc. & Android afaik ID3v2. Various applications use different tags, so I'm using both and for the album art to show, the images needs to be embedded too.
