as ive said in previous posts, I am a recent convert from windows mobile. I had an app on my htc advantage, that was an independant rss reader, as well as a full function rss widget for my home screen. Alot of my rss feeds are photoblogs, or at least news/websites that have photos with the rss feed. This app I had for windows mobile would show the headline of each article along with the first two or three lines AND the picture ON the home screen widget. I have yet to find any rss reader apps with widgets, or standalone widgets that would display the headline including any picture on the homescreen. Does anyone know of an android reader with a widget that does show pictures?
Ok, I think ive gone through every rss reader in the market and none have any sort of picture support in their widgets. Does anyone have any suggestions, or would any eager coders fee like designing a widget that would do this?
if anyone happens to try an rss app and notice that it displays pictures thru a widget....please let me know as I am still in need and looking.
AnyRSS Widget
Unfortunatly Anyrss reader does not display pictures in the widget. Both engadet and gizmodo have pictures of items for each post, that I am looking to have displayed with each headline.
Try FeedR, its 0.99c on the market. Set the feed you want on as a shortcut and it displays images when you collapse it. If you don't like it you can get a refund within 24hrs.
You'd think google would have google reader considering it's their OS
Thanks origins81, I dont think i have tried Feedr yet. I will give it a run this afternoon.
I now have Feedr, but it doesent look like it has any kind of widget support at all. Yes you can create shortcuts on your home screens to a specific feed, but then when you click on it, it opens the whole reader app. The shortcut isnt even a picture, just a generic feedr icon. I'm thinking it may have been an older version of SPB Insight that did the trick on winmo. If i updated my engadget feed, it would download the most recent say 15 posts, and then on my homescreen, it would cycle through the headlines with the corresponding picture that went with each post.
I am still on the hunt for this, I posted a few comments requesting picture widget support for the most popular rss readers on the market....hopefully someone will hear my cry
There is a new version of FeedR with widget support now, though I've not tried it.
The best RSS widgets I've come across are the News Buzz/Mobile Buzz/Gaming Buzz ones by mippin.com...the only problem is that the feeds are automatic and not customisable. That said you can choose a category e.g. Android on Mobile Buzz and it fetches a good selection of news.
Mik
Please let me know if you found one.
esp, widget shows multi lines with img. thanks.

You my friend, are a hero.
I've searched for days, I saw it before, but always thought pulse news was just some news site that showed only their news.
For an RSS android app widget that shows pictures, and text, this is excellent! Loving pulse news widget! All my favorite sites feeds with pictures! (<---Intentionally worded with keywords so others searching for this type of widget would come up easier in search engines)
You're more than welcome! Glad I could help out with something on xda even with me being a semi-noob!
Sorry I'm posting but xDA all of a sudden says that I don't have permission because I have never posted so this is what I'm posting, sorry to post this, but I don't have a choice thanks xda!

Hey everyone,
I'm sick of trying to get the HTC Home weather thing to work. I've tried replacing DLL's, editing XML files, and installing a couple different versions. None seem to work so I'm moving away from this weather app.
I'm looking for a standalone app that will show me local weather along with a 5 or 7 day forecast. It would also be nice if I could store other city's to it as well so I can see the weather at different places.
I don't want a today screen plugin. I just want to be able to open this application, view the weather, and close it.
Anyone have a good program for that? Free or paid I don't care... I'm just looking for the best & most stable.
It isn't just a weather app, however SPB traveller when opened shows the cities you have specified with their weather, high and low temps for 4/5 days depending on the view you select.
It will show you their time and conversions to your local money.
It is likely to be a bit bloated for what you require, however it works exceptionally well and I haven't had any issues with it.

"Weather Watcher" is exactly what you are looking for. It will do multiple cities, current conditions, hourly, extended forecast, weather alerts, and a zoom-able radar of the city you have selected. You can set it to automatically update or update it manually. Best part is that it is free. You can get it here.

Thank you for the program. Seems to work pretty well. I had to make Opera NOT by default browser through... otherwise it wouldn't work. It basically loads IE into the program and you view webpages.
But... very cool. Thanks again

I'll check it out... but just from looking at the program it does seem a tad too bloated for what I'm looking for. But thank you
I liked Weather Watcher too, but it won't open HTML pages since Opera was my default.
I uninstalled Opera and it still wouldn't work. Did you have to change any settings?

With Opera installed I went into settings and made sure to un-check make opera the default browser.
After I did that it worked.
Another vote for Weather Watcher
Let me rephrase it: I couldn't get it to working using Opera Mini
try weather panel. in case you have the SP BMobile hsell, you can insert the program as one of the tabs. I love it. It's the best, and I've tried them all.
I use PocketWeather, very detailed.
ekhhhh...im really getting frustrated, none of these programs work with a proxy connection! does anybody know a weather program that works with a proxy connection? thanks

Well Weather Watcher is in deed free. I'm afraid to say you might have settings problems on your GPRS connection. I have Proxy and it worked perfectly for me. If you care to share our DevInfo, I'll see if I can help.
Hi there,
Where did you get Weatherpanel free, all the version I got asked for registration key and even if I put it in it still asked me for it again, like I never entered it. I'm using Pocket Weather now and its pretty good.(Not free though)
You can try this one. It's free and loaded to the gills w/ info. Including hourly.

It says it is US only {Edit} <-- And I am being a 'tard, the US only bit is limited to the severe weather warnings. {/Edit}

I've looked in Opera settings and can't find the option to uncheck opera as my default browser....is it in Opera:config?...if so where?
Hello Group (first post )
Any way to have the HTC Home Weather Screen display Weatherbug Direct instead? As an app, I like Weatherbug much better (more info, easier to pick various cities, etc), but of course it takes up that extra screen-estate.
I've already done a search through the registry to look for any sort of "run" line to a seperate weather app that I could have just changed, but of course nothing's quite that easy.
I'm guessing it would involve modifying htchome.dll, which is a bit beyond my paygrade . But I'm hoping not
I've done a search every way I can figure how to see if this has been already discussed here, and couldn't find anything. If I've missed a previous post on the topic, my apologies to the group
bump as well for me....thanks
Bump, I'd like to see ANY choice in weather apps for the HTC Home app other then the default one, because it doesn't support my city without a dll hack.
can anyone post the rss hub cab that comes on the stock raph.? it is another casualty of att branding. thanks!

Thanks oodles! I was trying to get Opera mini to handle RSS but:
a) it didn't allow me to group them so I could separate them by content (text vs audio) and frequency (I keep a list of ~40 RSS feeds and have annotated them by their update frequency)
b) I couldn't edit the names
c) it didn't work on the BBC Newspod feed
RSS Hub solves all of those and the interface is elegant. Thanks again!
RSS hub help with scrolling
Hello, I was wondering if anyone using RSS hub has found it annoying to scroll while in an open feed.
Usually, I open a feed to an article I wish to read. The short blurb doesn't cut it so I wish to scroll done to, "Read More Online...". But when I attempt to scroll to the bottom, it doesn't scroll, rather it highlights the words.
Is there a way to smart scroll within the feed that is still open by RSS hub?
Thanks for reading guys.

well, are you only lightly pressing, cause that is the exact thing that happens. you really have to push it down for the flick scrolling to kick in. otherwise you will highlight...
or try yomomedia which is actually a lot nicer
nope not light touch
@ Vader165
Nope, not light touch, regardless if I press hard or not, when the feed is open with RSS Hub, it just highlights. Any solutions?
@ Kwill
Yomomedia is actually quite nice interface. As much as it is aesthetically pleasing, it takes a while to load. However, I think I will have to use this, if I am not able to smart scroll in RSS Hub.

I’m guessing your running a WM 6.5 ROM? If so this is normal behavior and cannot be fixed. The kinetic scrolling of 6.5 breaks the touchflo in certain apps and the RSS Hub happens to be one of them. I always just have to use the side scroll bars to scroll through an article. I enlarge the width of my vertical scroll bars using Advanced config and it makes it a lot easier.
Great tip

Great tip. I went on and employed this and it makes using the RSS Hub under 6.5 a lot better.
One more question, if you don't mind Climber, is there a way to move the scroll bar to the left, for lefties like me?
Thanks for the tip again!

Sorry but as far as I know this is not possible. You would think that Microsoft would have added this option considering that not everyone is right handed.
you could use the new version of Rss hub, newsbreak. i have it and i love it because it actually does podcasts. and well.
SPB Online
I just downloaded SPB Online, which contains an RSS reader and the "touchflo" scrolling works in article view. As a matter of fact, this is the best RSS reader I have ever used. It's not free, but if you access your RSS reader as often as I do it's well worth the money.
Hey folks...
I just got a hero (sprint) a couple days ago, and I'm already running out of space on my home screens... I really like the bookmark widget, but it just takes up too much space... Anyone ever seen one that's just a single row of icons tall that scrolls left/right? I've gotta believe it exists, or wouldn't be too tough to create.
Any input?
Use a Live Folder.. search for bookmark(s) live folder in market

That's a workable solution, but I'd much rather have a widget.
Thanks for the pointer though... If I totally run out of space, I'll go that route..
Or you can use "bettercut" app in the market and make your own bookmark shortcuts. Plus you can choose your own icon, by downloading the image or use an icon pack they provide.

Mate this is hero development, your question should be in Hero themes and apps .... Moderators you attention please.
P.S bettercut's the best option
Hey people. I know it is not a topic for doubts but I could not understand how the BlinkFeed manages 2 or more RSS custom feeds.
I had the impression that it does not mix all the feeds so I have to slide the screen to the left and tap the other feeds to check all of them.
Should it be like that? I look for a interface that works like the dead Google Reader.

You can't see all the manual RSS feeds together in Blinkfeed. You have to choose each one of them every time.
If you want a better reader I would recommend checking Feedly.
