The other day I was curious to upgrade my radio to the 1.16.x.x from my 1.14.25.25 since I don't get the best reception here in Canada. In my bedroom I usually got 2-3 bars.
Anywho so I decided to try it so I first followed the instructions to HARDSPL my phone and then after my phone rebooted I noticed I have higher reception.
My radio is the same though, it hasn't changed. Can anyone explain this? Its funny too cause at work when I use go in the elevator I use to get 1 to 0 bars and Now I have almost full reception in the elevator at work.
thanks

The HARDSPL don't touch the radio rom and they are two different things.
It only serves to overcome the blocks of text on the ROM. STOP!
Are you sure that is just a coincidence...

Since i upgraded to File: MrClean_RUU_WIZARD_224a_AKU23_WWE i have had worse signal than when i was back on the 1.13 radio rom. When it looses signal it takes ages to reconnect. People can hear me but i cant hear them, and all kind of weird things, ive tried a couple of other radio roms but still having issues. Anyone had similar problems? Any cure?
Really need some help on this ASAP, means i can hardly use the phone at the moment
So i got a diamond for about a month now, and im pretty happy with it except for one problem which absolutly drives me crazy, and pretty much makes it suck as a mobile phone.
Tried searching the forum but can't see anything about this, my only guess is it might have something todo with 3G weak reception.
i still don't know when exactly this happens, under what conditions exactly.
but basically this happens a few times a day.
The problem:
I will get/make a call while having signal.
I click accept
as it is trying to connect the call suddenly all reception is lost and i lose my signal.
basically it fails to connect the call
a second later i will have reception again.
if now i get called again, it will usually give me the same problem.
I have absolutly no idea how to fix this.
tried reflashing the official rom, but it didn't work.
i really hope this is an easy fix, as i really like this phone so far, but seems my wizard worked better as phone.

Hey aRnonymous,
It seems your radio is (1.00.25.05) quite outdated.....try this Thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432770
You will find many radios which you can use. Than you can see if your problem will be solved...probably a bad flash from your current radio is causing the problem you prescribed....
Good luck fella en let us know about your progress....
also...look @ my signature...this radio is working great (at least, in my opinion, you have to try many radios)
Regards
Jeroen
I just got a used g1 and it only picks up 3g, it dosent switch over to edge it only gets siginal in 3g, i tried to factory reset it, i used the *#*#4636#*#* to switch it to edge no dice, rooted it, ive pretty much done everything i can think of, anybody else have this problem and know how to fix it, would it possibly be the antenna acting up?

Couple of possibilities;
1) fried amplifier (unlikely),
2) there has to actually be a 2g network within range in order to connect to it... you sure there is one?
yea i know im in 2g range, i had another g1 that never had this issue and when i say no signal its none there is no switch over at all to edge or g, either it 3g or its an X on the bars, i went and to tmo and got a diff sim card still no dice, would the amplifier cause summin like this to happen? ive been around the towers and it works like a charm but i get to far and it drops all service what could it be could it be the spl or something im going to root it again tonight to see if anything changes

There is ABSOLUTELY NO POINT in "re-rooting" if you already have root. It won't gain you anything. The SPL itself can't affect anything to do with the radio. The RADIO system *could*, but I doubt it is since I've heard of every combination working at least to some degree.
You could try a wipe, installing a fresh ROM, and ensuring that your SPL and RADIO are decent/recent ones.... I suggest you install SPL version 1.33.2003 (which is NOT deathspl), along with radio 2.22.23.02.
SPL 1.33.2003 is fully compatible with the device's stock SPL, which was version 0.95.0000 except that it is a FULL ENGINEERING SPL. There is also a PARTIAL engineering SPL version 0.95.3000 -- it is not nearly as strong as 1.33.2003.
Note that the radio and spl themselves can NOT be "broken". They are either both present/correct or the phone is totally bricked. There is no in-between.
well i have danger SPL, i went from the 26I radio to .23 no dice, a fresh rom (cyanogenmod 6) install, wiped the phone multiple times a day still noting what can be done about this im completely out of ideas and still no dice, if i have to change the boards in the phone, where can i find them and would i have to revert the rooting on the phone to not cause any issues. . Well I got some stuff to work if I switch it over to gsm auto (prl) I get signal in some places but still not fuily work there is no data when I do this tho and I still drop the siginal alot
I figured it out my gsm antenna is damaged on the outside, is there anyway to repair this without chaing the back, and where if i could, get the antenna from?
Hi all,
Within the past week or so, I've noticed a fairly large drop in the signal strength from both my wireless lan and 3g signals. With the cell signal, it was even dropping to edge sometimes when I was outside in an area which used to give me full bars. Wireless isn't much better, and it seems to be fluctuating between 4/5 signal and 2/5 signal even though I'm close to my router. Again, I used to have full signal in the same location. Nothing really would have changed.
Yesterday I tried flashing Continuum (2.3.4) instead of running the stock 2.2 that I had before. The 3g signal seems to be *slightly* more consistent, although I'm still not at full bars, whereas I always was before.
Is this a common occurrence? Is it my hardware, and can I fix it myself, or do I need to send it in to Rogers? I've only had the phone for about 6 months now. I wonder if it's under warranty still (assuming I flash back the original ROM and bootloader).
If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated. It's odd, but the wifi signal almost gets boosted when I'm trying to use the internet, but not to full bars even when I'm near the router.
Bump. Is this the wrong place to ask this question?
Cheers
My AT&T Captivate has similar issues. Mine started about a month ago. I haven't put any effort into figuring out the root cause.
Yeah, I'd really like to figure out what's up though. Does the hardware just crap out after a few months of use? Thanks samsung!

This trend happened with my HTC Aria as well. I don't believe its anything related to Samsung hardware crapping out.
So, if it's software, what would be consistent across a ROM and kernel flash?
I recently fixed a network error effecting call quality by flashing a new modem. I know our issues are different, but since you did flash new ROM i dont think it could hurt.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I896 using XDA App
Stumbled across this article on Toms Hardware today and felt like it was a good read for this thread.

Unfortunately it's not just my wifi that has issues, but 3g as well.

Have you tried flashing a different modem? The one that came with your current rom may be different than you had before which would account for your weaker signals. Different modems work better in different areas. Try something else and see if it doesn't help, such as JK4 or JL3.
I haven't yet, but I actually had the problem before I flashed the ROM.
Where are you located. I have absolutely ATROCIOUS reception in Atlanta, and ATT says they have some 50 towers down. Your area might be the same. In my basement where I used to have 3 bars consistently, i know have to run around the basement struggling to get one bar to send a text. ATT needs to get their act together or everyone might start switching to Verizon.
In Toronto, Canada. We usually have good reception. It's only recently that I have had issues.
check with other people such as your family and see if they have bad service too, if so call your service provider, there may be an issue on their end. Other than that all I can suggest would be a full reset to factory and a master clear and then restart from there. While that is annoying, it might be worth it to solve the problem.
I have been experiencing data issues after rooting my device. The signal bar never seems to fill all the way since rooting. Before root I would have pretty consistent LTE. I still have a data connection, however it isn't nearly as it was before. Also, next to the signal bar I've noticed an "!" every now and then, I've tried searching for what this might mean, others have experienced it, but there were no answers. I am on Verizon, my SIM Status states I am on the network,
Network type is CDMA - 1xRTT
Baseband version is: MDM9625_104446.01.02.101R
Building # is LMY47Z white/64
I had read some where on this forum about flashing different radios. I've never attempted to do so. I'm fairly new to rooting, this is my second phone I've rooted my self. So feel free to use Crayons when explaining. The only thing I've done outside of the root was enable WIFI tethering through the system/build.prop.
Thanks for any help
Well rooting alone will not affect your data. You must have done something else to affect it

I wasn't sure if maybe the recovery I used might of had an old radio of some sort, not really sure. I used TWRP if that matters. Like I said the only other thing I edited was the Build.prop with "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true"

if you messed up on the spelling in the build.prop method, you wouldnt be able to boot. twrp recovery does not have a radio, and is the only recovery for the n6. and rooting doesnt touch your radio, all root does is give you administative permissions. as a fact, since you still get a radio signal, even though crappy, its still a signal and nothing is wrong with your device. the only issue that you seem to be having is with your provider. do you live deep in the country? i know that with tmobile, thats where bad signals are, and some report the same issue as your having.
I get weird signal lte bars, but that's not indicative of call signal right? I am on cricket aka AT&T, using in central metro area, it tends to flux. Where as Nexus 5 and LG G3 seemingly had better signal (going by bars).
EDIT: have you tried checking your Settings>Battery>Cell Standby? What's you "time without a signal"? Today I got 3%, previously it was 10%, but I'm going in and out of buildings/elevators.
Well after a couple days I've been checking the Cell Standby like you mentioned. Its around 10%. When I'm at work its about 60%, but that's because I work in a controlled area that blocks most cell signals. My connection seems to be getting better, I can stream Netflix and other things on without much problems. I had my phone for a little bit before I rooted, and I never got the "!" next to my signal bar. I guess the "!" means it is searching for a data signal. I get it at least 3 times a day. I do live in a rural area, I wouldn't call it back woods. I'm about 30 min from the capital. but everything is settling out,
thanks for the replies!
