meridian is pretty good.
i like the controls on it. you dont have to use the search bar. u can swipe your finger from left to right to fast forward and vice versa. and touch the screen anywhere one to pause.
but to my knowledge lukluk is the only player that streams movies. but its best to stream those movies over wifi since the g1 has a 10gig data cap per month when using edge or 3g services

I've long since turned in my Tilt for a Motorola Q9H but had to share with you guys. For some time now I've been on a quest to find a mobile music streaming application that would give me a nice interface and access to my home music collection. Social.FM desktop and mobile client is not quite there but head and shoulders above anything else I've found. The mobile client is a one time $20 but if you're interested I can help you get access to a promo copy. The desktop client is free. There's a station list on the mobile with access to a hundred or so genres and sub-genres.
Once you install the desktop client and point it to your local music collection it shows up on the mobile. Too easy.
What is wrong with Orb? it is free, supports video, live TV and webcams as well as music.

Ummmm...
ORB is nowhere close. I tried it. The web interface is kludgy. And why would you want to have to switch to a different application to change to a different album or artist. The interface of the Social.FM client is iPod like. One of the things about Orb that was frustrating was that the streaming format was not supported in all players, or at least the one I wanted to use. It's been a while since I totally dismissed it so I can't remember the details. I tried them all. The best streamer was 40th Floor iPlay with the server option running on my desktop. But the interface on that is made for a stylus. I have no need to use a stylus, ever.
Incidentally, that's why I gave up the Tilt for the Q9H. And I need to be able to type with one hand which is not possible with the Tilt. As soon as the I-Mate 8502 comes out I'll switch to that.
Don't get me wrong. The Social.FM player is not quite there. You can't pause and there is no AVRCP support. I imagine that pausing is coming soon. I just had a full workout at the gym while streaming from my desktop at work and had zero skips. I found an interview with the CEO of Social.FM (http://www.onuiq.com/) and he said that they're using Ogg Vorbis encoding. Says they can get full quality over EDGE.
You really should give it a try.
I see its mercora. They are the ones who wanted to charge you for streaming your own music collection. Major fail.
Surur
Sounds pretty cool in spite of its short-comings. It will be great when this concept is fully dialed-in.

Well, they must have seen the light cuz right now I'm streaming from, not only mine, but my buddy's desktop for free.
Side note:
If I had my way I'd be streaming Slacker.com to my phone. They have, hands down, the best content available. The stations (genres/sub-genres) are put together by "music experts". And I can vouch for them. I even wrote an application to sniff their ID3 tags and automatically download full quality MP3's (theirs is 128kbit) and then sync that to my iPod automatically with ml_iPod. They have aspirations to release their own hardware player but not only hasn't that happened but I think it's misguided. I would [so] pay to stream their content to my phone.
I’m looking for a gapless music player for Diamond. Either it should play separate mp3 files with no gap or at least support playing one big mp3 file with its cue sheet. Is there such a thing for Windows Mobile? Thanks.
Pocket player works for me.. you can choose how long it is supposed to "crossfade" and thus it hides those annoying gaps. Quite similar to the same function in MediaMonkey..
I'm fairly sure it does regular gapless without crossfade too.
Yeah, Pocket Player is the only decent music player out there. It is not free but it is worth the purchase.
As long as you have encoded your MP3's well (such as using -nogap with a LAME encoder) then PP can handle it well
Thanks. This looks great. I'm testing it. What about cue support?
Not sure.
Wired69 has done a great Diamond skin for it however!
And FLAC-support is nice Except that's when you start noticing the 4GB limit..
For the moment the question of gapless doesn't seem that important. HTC’s wonder box can’t even play simple music correctly!
Can anyone reccomend a better mp3 player? The built in one sucks IMO

Mixzing player is the best Music Player (it is free)
Yeah, it's not too bad, and rockon isn't that bad either, weirdly you can download it for free here http://abrantix.org/rockon.php but have to pay on the market.
Have half a mind to write a better one, maybe some day.
I user Meridian, pretty much all in one for video and music. Does album art, supports hand gestures, shows lyrics, use the handset button to play/pause and other stuff. Tad bit on the slow side, but still good.
I was gonna make pos tlike this..question do all music apps run as a service?
my post from over at ******
Just one of my posts from nokia apps i thought i should bring to the table I'm not sure if this is the best place for it but i thought it might be helpful.
Mixzing Cyrket - MixZing Music Player - nice look and feel, pretty solid once you turn off recommendation, and prevent it from creating a new playlist everytime you play a new track. Ultimately i defaulted back to the standard as it has a background process.
Tunewiki Cyrket - Tunewiki - if you like the look and feel of the ipod touch this is for you. if you can stand/replace the icon. Lyrics can be turned off which is good, and it has full youtube integration like the standard. Again it has a background process that will not die!
Meridian Cyrket - Meridian Player - really don't get the appeal of this player but it does seems pretty popular. cool swipping motions!
Ambient Ambient Music Player - About - actually a pretty good mp3 player but you wont find it in market, i think this projects been abandoned which is a shame........
Rock On RockOn for Android - intends to deliver an itunes/songbird media flow method of browsing music. Still very beta but great promise.
droidPlayer lite http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.droidplayer.activity - Ok so the lite version is really limited, like 10 songs to a playlist limited, the controls don't feel great and i think it's pretty ugly not to mention it's fondness for force closeville. I've not tried the full version but if the lite is anything to go on, it wont be worth buying a key.
Instinctiv http://instinctiv.com/download_G1.html - Very very light application, the ipod shuffle of the group, nothing fancy. Force quits a lot on me but not everyone reports this problem!
Ongoing Music Adapter Cyrket - Ongoing Music Adapter Lite - not really a media player as such but a handy toy if you ever launch mp3s from your browser or a file manager and then want to actually go on with playing with the phone.
mp3tagger Cyrket - mp3tagger - not a media player at all but if you're as irritated by metatag errors as i am
As for Diggin I'm sure we'll all hear if it ever launches till then watch this space http://www.digginmobile.com/
Personally i don't really use the mp3 players much i tend to use streaming media application such as:
Last.fm Cyrket - Last.fm - Personal Radio If you don't use last.fm check it out it's brilliant, recommends music based on your listening patterns and it learns quickly, I think it's fantastic as it seems to know my mood after about 3-4 rejections!
Nutsie Cyrket - Nutsie Pretty solid app, basically your media library on the move
Music On Demand Cyrket - Dizzler - not bad system but it seems to buffer a lot which can be very frustrating
Imeem Cyrket - imeem - I'm not a fan, it's a solid enough app but you can only skip 6 songs in an hour so you may find yourself choosing another app if you have a few crap songs lined up!
Please feel encouraged to add any new finding!
I agree ... I like hat large album art feature of Mixzng .... but man this phone lacks a decent sexy looking mp3 player!
Re: droidPlayer
Hey there,
Try the new version 1.2.0 ! 3d animation and response is much faster,
no hang ups so far. In lite-version you can have now 20 songs in song-mode instead of 10,
which is enough for me.
Later dudes,
I love my phone but yeah the music player sucks donkey. I hate the fact that it shows ringtones too. The one thing I wish we had from the iphone is the media player. I like the way its set up simple, sleek and sexy. Someone should port that to Android.
The one thing that is missing from all of them is an on screen volume adjustment. I normally use mixzing and have my phone sitting on my desk at work. It would be easier to just tap the screen to adjust the volume rather then having to mess with the buttons on the side.
No, I am not so lazy that I can't pick up my phone. I had it on my Wizard and I really kind of miss it.
New guy to the Android world. Looking for an 'all in one' app that will play my audio and video collection on my PC. IE, one app to play both audio and video. I've seen variations of VLC but noticed mixed reviews. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.
Personaly y love real player bet. it just makes some videos to play smoothe when other players dont even open the videos. It is all in one, the only bad thing is that (i thin) there is no external sd support)
Orb
I really like Orb Live. I have it installed on my server at home that is on 24/7. There is a paid app in the app store for it but before you get too excied it doesnt seem to be working well at all with my G Tab. I do still love it though for my Evo and any other computer I can access it from. It streams all of my music (it attaches itself to my iTunes library and playlists) and my movies and photos...plus it gives me access to the files on the computer too. Also one cool feature is it streams my TV tuner I have on my server. Its only basic cable but its nice still since I travel a whole bunch for work (I am on my way to Paris right now) I can watch all of my local channels remotely.
I just got a Lumia 920 and I absolutely hate the music players they have on it. The Nokia app is only a little better than the stock Xbox music app. For one thing, you can't specify where to look for your music, so it adds any MP3 file on the phone to your music list, which makes doing shuffle a pain. And for some reason, it is impossible to get a playlist on the phone unless all the songs are in the same folder. Anyone know a decent music player, or at least a way to get a good playlist on the phone? I tried using Mediaplayer from the pc and no luck.
Thanks for any help!
yeah and i cannot see all songs now playing (album tracks), only one. I cannot see how many songs in album remains and cannot select another. It sucks
I have found really nice alternative music player. It is simple, but usefull: Album flow

Disagree totally. On my Nokia Lumia the player is pretty nice, does what it's supposed to. Has an equalizer with presets and manual, suggests Nokia MixRadio channels where locally played music can be found (great to find other good music) and shows background images of the playing band from the net. It's actually a very nice player.

Just if you compare it to a stone. if you compare it to a decent music player it sucks. but in regards of your other postings i sense you dont care about the rest anyways
I ended up dumping my 920 and going back to Android on a Samsung S3, and much happier now. Not just for the music player (though PowerAmp is awesome!), but for the horrendous lack of basic features. Too bad, I really wanted to like my Windows phone.
I also don't care for the music player apps available on the Lumia 920. I keep hoping for a Rockbox port - mostly because it supports all the codecs I have.
Great alternative for music player on wp

I play mostly local music stored on my phone. And for those uses musictastic is by far the best player I have found. Its free, reads playlists I create on my desktop from windows media player, looks great, shuffle fun too works as it should, and displays album art correctly. Definetly worth a try.
