hero rosie firmware help - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have downloaded the apps_s.zip and the hero-signed.zip files to put hero rosie on my g1 but i cant figure out how to get it on...
also, is hero rosie better than cyan3.9.10?
does it have features like multitouch and apps2sd?

honestly... you actually asked this... i think all hero roms now put app_s in the ext2/3/4 partition to start with and all of them have a2sd on initial setup with you only having to have second partition. did you read nothing from the thread you got the rom from. unless it is the one haykuro posted a few months back. which hero rom is it. no it will not be faster than the cyanogen rom.
yes should have multi-touch browser as well

did you read this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534461
hero does runs slower than cyanogen, yes. choose cyanogen if you want functionality at the blink of an eye and if you want a lot of themes. choose hero if you want gorgeous ui and don't mind waiting a lil bit. personally i suggest drizzy's personal hero. but you've got to have patience.

1) Most hero ROMs automatically use the linux-swap partition, most 1.5 builds do not because it isn't really needed. Same with A2SD, depends on the ROM. Have a look in the release notes in the thread. Most ROMs do use you ext partition for apps automatically, but some don't.
2) Peep and weather are exclusive to Hero ROMs, I don't know a Hero ROM that doesn't include them. You can't get those apps or the widgets for them on 1.5 builds.
3) (Crazy) people (I kid, I kid) have asked about WinMo before on the G1 before, I wouldn't get your hopes up. Apparently WinMo doesn't even support the 320x480 resolution the G1 uses, not to mention we would need drivers for everything.

None...
No hero rom in it's current form is fast. They are all good, and a lot of progress has been made to port them but you've got to understand few things:
HTC roms are closed source, they are not compiled, they are backported.
Hero rom is intended for Hero device which has more rom and ram memory.
Hero roms require more then basic knowledge of Android/Linux to properly set-up your phone/sd card.
therefore, none of the Hero roms will be as fast or smooth as AOSP roms.
With that said:
Quit bugging people and do some basic search.... this is at least 4th or 5th thread about which rom is better in the last month. Back-up your current stuff, flash, re-flash, nand back and see for your self.

Thank you!!! I am sick of seeing which hero rom is best threads. Seriously, this is a question that can easily be tested if you know what you are doing.

dont use hero?
If you want apps to open faster, use a BFS kernel
If you dont want rosie to slow down over time...use a regular kernel w/o bfs
those are pretty much the only options
hero roms are generally slower, but i found to have a class 4 or 6 card to help things go a lot smoother. still, there are some hiccups, but its a huge difference
Reason #38 why Hero should die...

That "some reason" is because the Hero has a 1/3 more RAM than the G1. A whole 96mb.
Not trying to be patronizing, but the only thing you can do is switch to an AOSP ROM, or disbale Rosie (Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > TouchFlo > Clear Defaults - will only work if Launcher.apk is present in /system/app)
What roms would u recommend?

All current ROMs are built off the same dump, the only thing you can really change with Hero is the kernel. Hardly any of the "Devs" who release Hero ROMs have any idea how to compile the kernel.
Take your pick, you won't find one which will have a significant speed increase over another (unless they're based on a new dump).

I recommmed sense hero unthemed or maybe kingklick hero 2.3.
Also try cyan rom with a hero theme
Alright thx I'm gonna try a couple out. How do I install the BFS?

You need to flash the boot.img w/ bfs for your rom through fastboot
I am currently on sensehero 1.3.3 themed, its pretty sweet. but so far, kingklick 2.3 is going to most stable imo.
kingklick 1.9 is a guaranteed winner as well.
why do you want to install BFS? Cyan said that BFS is not all the way worked out yet.

Search FAST and STABLE HERO ROM

Hi,
last time i tested the MLIGN Hero Rom...
I really like the look of the whole rom like noothers!
Now i search a faster and very stable rom of the hero look.
The CyanogenMod hasn't such a good theme....
The best is when the Rom with hero look have the newest features of Android 2.1, but that isn't a must, because with 1.5 i haven't any reduction compare to newer android roms or???
ScorqYoN
You should try try Jac's hero rom its pretty fast.
Is it regulary updated???
Is it the best hero rom???
Have i any disadvantages because android 1.5??? (compare to CM 1.6 or 2.1...)???

Maybe certain apps wont show up but Jac's hero hasnt been updated in like 4 months but its faster than the newer 1.5 heros like MLIGN or sensehero and the others. But King's 2.1 hero is good cause i can open the KB on home and its 2.1 so new apps show in market.
So kings hero is android 2.1 with new features etc and has hero look???
Is it also fast and stable???
Do bluetooth work???
Kings hero the best???

Bluetooth will never work on hero for 32B hardware but it works fine for 32A magic users. There are only 2 2.1 heros out, Espresso & Eclair hero. Depends on what you mean fast, for basic task its fine but not for everyday use. Espresso has been my daily rom and backup but its fine for me.
I have a HTC Dream, so never Bluetooth?
Where do i find espresso or eclair hero???
Is there a good CyanogenMod normal hero theme for CM, because i find only special mix of hero themes, like community hero mix. But i want normal hero theme...
They are all in the dev section, just page through it or search. Do a nandroid backup first and try them out yourself.

KiNgxKxlicK and OpenEclair differences?

I have been using cyanogen for a while and want to get into eclair.
I have seen that there are 2 that interest me, KiNgxKxlicK and openEclair. What are the differences/benefits from one another.
Will my current apps work fine with these or will i have to wipe ext and reinstall them?
Chris
As much as I would love to stay with OpenEclair because of their "popularity", Kings Eclair ROMs have always felt smoother to me(and as of now, his includes Live Wallpapers).

You are going to have to wipe. Both roms are really good. Openeclair is having some issues with the included live wallpapers but the ones from the market work. Just remember, there are no drivers for video in eclair so most video won't work.
My suggestion for your apps is to back up the ext first then use "droid explorer" to batch reinstall.
Wow, this ROM works great. But i think i will stay with Cyanogen for now. I cant bear not having fast games and 3d stuff.
Anyone know when the hardware drivers are going to be released?
Chris
