New Dialpad Skins... [UPDATED 6/20/2008]

I downloaded and installed the HTC Touch dialpad, and it worked well but was pretty plain.
I've spent a few hours reworking the graphics it uses and came up with a new skin based on a wallpaper I downloaded from www.pocketpcscreens.com. I've got portrait working well, but haven't done landscape yet...
Here are a couple screenshots. If anyone would like to use it, let me know and I can post links here.
And SmartDial still works!!

To install it, you'll need to install the HTC Touch dialpad (Wizard_reTOUCHed_Dialer2.zip), then download the background zip of your choice. Copy all of the image files from the zip into your device's Windows dir, and overwrite any files it prompts about. Soft reset your phone (or stop cprog.exe then reopen the phone) and enjoy!
This has been tested on my T-Mobile Wing w/ WM6. I haven't tested it on any prior versions of WM or other devices, so maybe someone can chime in whether it's OK or not.
If anyone wants the raw png's to make your own, let me know and I can attach them too...
I also attached a corresponding 'Rocks' WM theme and images for ContactsManager and Slide2Unlock for a nice uniform look.
I'm not too sure about the technical aspects of the dialer... You may want to check the thread where the dialpad was released. This is just a graphical update I did for it...

nice post ! i have a little problem though....
when i call using the htc-retouched theme, in the call-in-progress screen i get green text instead of white (the call history, mute etc); and it's hard to read...
do you know a solution?

*** UPDATE: added new image file to post #1

Uploaded wallpapers and misc images for Slide2Unlock and ContactManager in post #1.
No screenshot for Slide2Unlock because, well, the device is locked. It's the same wallpaper but not as dark, so it looks nice and vibrant.

Thanks for the compliment! Unfortunately, at my current "skill" level, no. (notice the 'airquotes' around skill.)
I'm not really up on actual programming, this is simply a graphic overhaul of an existing skin.
If anyone out there can help me modify the actual layout, please feel free to chime in!!

Just for curiosity, is there something I can spell out better in the (admittedly vague) instructions? I know they probably skip a lot of 'read between the lines' steps, so if there's something that'll make it clearer please let me know!
Is it working OK for you? I don't think I've gotten any feedback yet that anyone else has it working, and I'm curious to know if it does.
Your post did help, because I noticed that the landscape theme background doesn't quite match the landscape dialer background. I've worked hard to keep them all uniform and avoid the wallpaper jumping up and down when you switch screens...

That's it. I must be officially dumb; I cannot find any information anywhere about how to apply a separate skin to the Touch dialer.
I was already using the PhoneBoost Lite with the Eten skin. Is this the same thing as the reTouched dialer you linked? (Again, I can't find any information linking the two)

Nah, don't feel dumb. No problem at all. They're not related - I got the Touch dialpad from here. I got it simply to get rid of the horrendous T-Mobile dialpad. After I installed it, I wasn't overly impressed by the looks of this one either, and realized that all of the graphic elements were simply .png's in the Windows directory. I used the old dialpad as a reference for size and layout and created a whole new set of graphics to use instead of the default Touch ones. There's no coding or software manipulation at all on my end, it's all strictly graphical.

hey, just a quick question, what kinda smart dial is there in the touch dialer...is it the one from microsoft that is inbuilt in wm6 or is it the one from HTC...I personally liked the htc one better as it it showed me the number of the contact without having to press a key on the contact...

Now, even though I like the grey theme, I'd like to use it with a different background, but no matter which one I pick, the dialer always shows the "Rocks" one on it. Is there a way to keep and use your dialer and its nice transparency with any other background pic?

If you post a portrait and landscape wallpaper (240x320 and 320x240) I should be able to do it. I've designed the graphics to make it pretty easy to replace the wallpaper and keep the transparency...
Or are you referring to the default Touch background I showed?

I would like to use it with more than one background, so what I'm looking for is something like a nice "standard" (plain-ish, but nice) background for the dialer, say, in a dark color or something, still keeping the nice transparencies.
Maybe I'm being too picky... but since you have the "skill" (and yes, you do!), I'm sure you can come with a couple of ideas .

The files are on my laptop at work, so I can crank something out tomorrow. in the meantime take a look at pocketpcscreens.com and see if there are any wallpapers you want. Otherwise I'll just use a neutral one...

Good also for 2.8?

The problem with making a white theme is that the fonts are in white too so they won't show up. I'm not sure yet how to change the font colour.
This only works on 2.9. I started working on it when 2.8 was out, but had to restart for 2.9. I threw away the 2.8 version, sorry!

Sure - The background for the notification pulldown is called status_bar_background.png and can be found in \res\drawable-480x320\ in framework-res.apk
The bottom bar mold, do u mean the 2-tone effect? Doesn't the stock rom already have that effect in stock colours though? The bottom bar stuff is in \res\drawable-port-480x320\ in Rosie.apk anyway.
Give me a shout if you need anything else!

But I think, it can't be translate to HTC sense....

Yeah looks very nice! But as it's in GDE it might be easier to change the fonts for that. I will start looking into changing the fonts, I'm pretty sure it's possible in Sense.

what i meant with the bottombar see attachment. as long as i know where to look i think i can find it.
just for my curiosity/clarification: all you do to create a theme is extracting the apk, alter the image files in it, compress & resign and install? or is there more to it, like altering xml files (which i can not open as they are compiled?) just that i'm on the right track here...

Now I know that's the bit you mean, I think that's in the same folder as the background transparency, \res\drawable-480x320\ in framework-res.apk. I'm not at my dev computer right now so I can't be totally sure, but if you can't find it let me know and I'll have another look.
Yes you're on the right track, that should work fine. It can get a bit confusing but if you keep all your files organised you should be fine.
I didn't alter any xml files to make my theme, so just leave those alone and replace the .png files.

[THEME]Mirrors added - Open007 - Hero Theme OpenEclair 1.2.2 [BETA][3/03]

INSTRUCTIONS:
*THIS IS NOT A METAMORPH*​
1. Place the latest compatible OpenEclair ROM and the latest Open007 theme for your SPL on the root of your SD card. Reboot to recovery.
2. Flash OpenEclair [Wipe optional but highly recommended]
3. Reboot. Complete initial setup if you have wiped.
4. Wait about 5 minutes for the ROM to complete its initial boot.
5. Reboot into recovery.
6. Flash Open007.
7. Reboot
OpenEclair requires special installation instructions because it bootloops otherwise. You must boot at least once on the OpenEclair ROM to allow Settings.apk and the keyboard to be moved to the proper directory. Do not whine about the theme not working if you have not followed these steps because I have tested it myself.
NOTE: As of Open007 v0.3.1, the theme can be flashed directly without having to flash the ROM. Thanks to JAguirre1231 for the update-script that makes this possible. Please make sure you download the theme designed for your SPL. The above instructions should be a failsafe. Please make a NANDroid backup just in case.
NOTE: There are no differences between the two versions for each SPL. The only difference is how the script that installs it works.

all he needs to do is change the png for that button to the top grey half color of it or white gloss. if you change it to white text, you'll just get what looks like your clear button in your screenshots. that doesn't flow well considering your images are not super glossy, which is why you shouldnt have taken those buttons from jonny. his themes from smorg were all about gloss and everything was the same so it flowed well. if you have images that are black and slightly glossy here and there and then you have buttons that are too glossy in comparison to them, it won't flow well. look for something simpler for those buttons so that it balances out. good luck man .

Ya im gonna make the top part of it darker so its not as glossy and a little darker, but i left it the way it is since it wouldnt be readable till I get the white text. i also only get about 20-25 hours of sleep a week thanks to work so finding time to fix everything up is hard.
I have a vacation 3rd week of march though so I should make considerable progress then

This theme is awesome, except for the messed up black lines at the bottom of the menu button options. Quite annoying. Fix that and you've got the best theme for OE out there.

Similar to the "Mount" "Don't Mount" buttons shown in the screenshots above. You can't even read the Don't Mount button because half is covered in solid black. This also transfers over to other app buttons, like Gmail archive,delete, etc. Fix this and the theme becomes useable. Thanks.

I'm going to revert those buttons till I get the white text there. I'll release a new version tonight or tomorrow morning fixing the buttons, as well as a fix that doesn't require you to flash the ROM directly before. I'll play around with metamorph later till I find out how to make it work well with OpenEclair.

Yeah the only theme ive seen out right now is a whole rom flashed over which i guess is fine but then you cant really go back unless you nandroid your way back lol too bad you cant just theme on/off

My zip file goes DARKGINGERBREAD/SYSTEM/APP & FRAMEWORK (THEYRE 2 FOLDERS IN SYSTEM) there shouldn't be much change from my Nx1 themes I didn't think....they always worked before!
And my update script says to push all my files from system to SYSTEM like always before.....anyone have a clue?
Is this the reason everyone is using adb or flashing the whole rom over?!

The solution is right in this quoted text...the zips I made flash perfectly so just drop your images in respective places.

Well I think I'm going to wait for a true CM build, which will probably have a black mms background but no matter what they will both have black backgrounds I finished my boot animation, its a throw back to the old hero builds I ran on my g1
I might also include black Widgets with white text too!

can you do flat black widgets with slight transparency? with white text.. that would look shaweeet

I'm getting my NS soon, I would LOVE to see the "-Remove all orange and replace with android green" feature very soon

IT's almost here!
Okay I now have a perfect Meta Inf folder and have this theme running on my own Nxs thanks to Ogdobber! Thanks again by the way!
So there was a slight problem with the camera app so I pulled the link and will upload a new version tonight hopefully
Things I have noticed that I am dissapointed with:
-Lock screen tabs have become disscolored!
-The android green activity bar is a little to saturated (it looks different from the screen shots to the actual phone)
-Browser tabs seem lighter than exected, its almost as if after running them through the 9 patch they lighten up alot never had this happen before....But I will fix it
Feel free to leave some feedback, although there isn't much to go by from the screen shots yet, I do appreciate it

[Feb 14] [Theme] [Beta Release!!!] First Custom WP7 Theme with Wallpaper Ability :D

Sammys Custom WP7 Theme
This is the first custom theme for Windows Phone 7 it is still in beta and some things don't work. At this point you can change the wallpaper but only to a color. I also changed the keyboard to a custom color .
Ive decided to release it for people to try, theres no easy way to do this cause its not final yet so, it requires work but its worth it Okay you'll need a cheveron unlocked device, RegistryEditor 1.1.0.0, and HTC Connection Setup (download link below). directions in second post.

Instructions
1. Sideload the apps you download above
2. Run HTC Connection Setup and got through setup
3. Open RegistryEditor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Themes\
4. Okay you have the choice to pick a theme you would like to edit unfortunately you cant just create a theme (Im working on that). 0 is the light theme and 1 is the dark theme i chose to edit the light theme since it takes up power. So click whatever theme you would like to edit.
5. on the light theme i have provided the original text that was there if you decide to switch (someone can post the dark theme original settings)

6. These are the only ones i recommend you to edit, For example, PageBackgroundColor is the background color on all non-custom pages, such as People, Start, Settings, etc.
7. I recommend editing the BaseThemeColor for the Custom Color Keyboard, PageBackgroundColor for your background color.

9. I only changed three lines and everything else stayed the same.
10. for your own colors visit (http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html) chose the color and copy the six digit number/letter of the color.
10. to apply your color simply delete the last six numbers (Keep The First Two Letters/Numbers in original Value Data!) then replace those last six numbers you deleted with your six numbers you got from your color chosen.
11. After applying your changes run the HTC Connection Setup, then restart the phone go to settings/themes and then chose the one you edited, simple Enjoy!!

For Transparency
to get transparent tiles just make the accent color transparent..
its in an alpha hex code form...
the first 2 letters are for alpha channel!!
so that means 0-255 in dec.
0-ff in hex
0 is fully transparent, ignore rest of color values..
FF is 0% trans.

Now that´s a nice looking concept... I wonder why MS did not include it this way from the beginning...
But, kind of "as usual", there is always some skilled person like you here at xda who fixes what they forgot...
Looking forward to your finished product... I am a fan of "transparency" and nice home screen backgrounds (as a matter of fact, that´s one of the few things I miss in comparison to Sense...

yea the music hub is just my imagination im sure theirs a way to change the icon but its way outta my reach for now, but it would be nice to have , and about the music, i just added random songs for fun
