Hi,
I've had my Tilt for about a month and a half now. I've taken very good care of it (or so i thought) and have never dropped it and actually keep it in a digital camera case when i carry it around.... anyways, the other day i noticed that when i pressed down on the OK softkey on the front of my tilt, it actually had a double-click "ability" just like the camera button on the side of teh device... a softer push on the OK softkey just activates the OK feature.. but if i press down just a little bit harder, the OK key actually activates the End Call feature, i know this b/c i can hear the same beep when pressing down on the OK key that i hear when i press the end call key from the home screen... ive also tried it during a call and it does end the call as well...
anyways, i went down to my local at&t to see if i could get it replaced, well they gave me the number to call since its been over a month... now i came home and started reading about how at&t just sends u a refurb... and with all the random bugs these things can have... im wondering if i should just suck it up and keep the Tilt i have... rather than take the chance with a refurb from at&t. I found numerous posts where people had to send back their refurbs 5 or 6 times until they got one that didnt have some quirky problem...
The button problem hasn't really bothered me or caused any problems, other than the fact that its a 1 and a half month old $400 device....
I would like to get some oppinions from people on what to do in my situation.. is getting an at&t refurb worth the risk? Other than this button thing, my i've had no other problems with my Tilt.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated...
Thanks much,
Shane
So just to confirm... the OK button Ends a call when pressed in fully?
yes, that is exactly right.. so i mean it really only would affect me if i was using the speakerphone and going through menus.. i guess it could accidentally end the call...

Hi:
Here is my 2 cents. I had a problem with my Tilt's speaker phone. I called and they sent me a NEW one (not refurb). The new one still had the same problem. Called again, and got another new one (not a refurb). Still had the same problem. I ended up keeping my original phone, because if I was going to be stuck with the bad speakerphone anyway, I figured I'd keep the phone I already have configured to my liking. I may one day call and try another one, since as I said I still have the original problem, but for now am sick of talking to warranty replacement department lol. They are actually pretty nice and helpful, much more so than in other departments, but there is ALWAYS time to wait on hold.
So, nice story, but here's my advice. I honestly don't think AT&T has refurbs yet. I think the phone is so new they are still sending out new replacemt units. At least that was my experience. One of the two replcaements even came in the full retail packaging, so I now have 2 batteries, 2 chargers etc...
I say you have nothing to lose, call them, and have them send you a replacement. If you don't like it/think it's buggy. or simply decide to keep your original, just send them back the replacement. I specifically asked if this was allowed, and they told me that as long as they get back a phone, it doesn't matter which on it is.
thats a great idea, thanks for the background info.. ill def give this a try.. like u said if i dont like the one i get ill just send it back. Thanks again.
so i can press the ok key on my tilt and if i press it with the meat of my thumb it will only click once, if i press it with the tip of my thumb (meat and fingernail), i do get the second click from the end key. the windows key does not do this with the talk key. without opening it up i would say its a design issue with the phone, and replacing it wont matter. i wonder if the real kaisers do this? or if its a design change in the tilt.
Photon, that is EXACTLY the problem i am having.. literally the way u described it with the thumb/fingernail is just how mine acts.. i wonder if this is indeed a problem that many of the tilts have...?

I have a Tilt, and I tried to reproduce this, but it didn't seem to do it for me. Of course I should add, I am a female, so my hands are probably much smaller than the gentlemen here
You're probably pressing the End button since they have the same cap.
Yeah I never really had a problem with it, but mine does the same thing. Just try to press the bottom of the ok button. It only seems to happen when I press it near the top. Whenever I end up opening my tilt I will rig it, but I'm not gonna open it just to fix this small issue.
I just realize that mine does the same thing. But I need to pres it with a really heavy preasure so its not gona happen by accident. Look like you guys are little bit stronger with your fingers
just wanted to say thanks again to everyone else thats replied.. it seems like this is indeed somewhat of a common problem, but like a few of you have said.. i prob just noticed it b/c i just happen to push down really hard on it one time, and ever since then its just bothered me... anyways, i do appreciate everyones replys/comments.
Thanks!
Hello fellow Kaiser users,
I don't know if this happened only with me or others have experienced the same.
TyTN II keys on the QWERTY after a year of use has some keys responding after the 2nd or 3rd stroke of the key.
Did anyone else experience this?
Is there a solution?
It is really bugging me when I'm typing an SMS or typing something down.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Hardware suggestions also I will try on my own risk.

Same problem here, but I started noticing it after 4/5 months of use. Would like to know about a solution also.
I feel your pain, this is what is really killing me because the keyboard is a very big part of the phone, and I've only been using it for 7 months. If i knew it would become this unresponsive i would of got an i phone because this phones on screen keyboard and transcriber is useless.
It happened to me after 7 months. The "c" key on my tilt started to become unresponsive so I called up at&t and had it warranty exchanged for a refurb. This second one was already even worse than the one I'd just sent back, so I had them send out another one. This third one is fine, although the "c" key (again, oddly enough) doesn't click like the others. It's responsive, but feels a little different. I didn't feel like going through the exchange process again, so for now I'm living with it.
My 1 month old refurb tilt doesn't type the keys when I press them sometimes. I should have that fixed. I thought it was a software problem...
My brand new XPS M1530 does the same thing sometimes. I guess I reckoned it was just me not pressing on the keys hard enough or something like that...
So I'm not the only one with the problem...
But no solution?!
Even a hint of what might be causing this would help..
have you guys tried using the disable XT9 cab ?
yes
I think it is H/W cleaning related
How to clean is the deal...
you can find disassembling guides on mikechannon's web. just follow the disassembling instructions and after you remove keyboard, try cleaning it.
Same problem for me.
I'm always very carefull with my device, and don't use the hardware keyboard very often.
Now for some letters I really have to press harder to make them work.
I have my device for only 6 or 7 months.
Have had my Kaiser for 6 months now and the Y and B keys are starting to go out. For the past couple weeks I have been considering sending it in for warranty exchange but I have taken very good care of my Kaiser and worry about what I would get back...
Anyone eager enough tried disasembling and cleaning?
Moreover, did it work?
funny thing here is that I get more unresponsiveness in the right side of the keyboard (enter; L; P; direction keys).
It is a real pain...
Most prolly will do it soon
Will let you all know of the outcome
Same here.
Had mine 8 months, the W key is worst, takes a really heavy press to get it to work, has been like that for about 5 months.
Now the B is also getting bad, so is the S.
If i'm likely to get a refurb back i guess i'll just put up with it until my contract is up.
I'm facing the same problem on my HTC herald. HTC keyboard quality has gone way down. I never faced such problem when I had htc universal.
Hey man,
since you had quite some ppls share of PPCs;
did you disassemble any of them before?
Do you think it's a good idea to do it myself?
I'm extra careful normally but I'm having doubts

Similar problems here with my Tilt. FN, CAP/SHIFT, N are all problematic for me.
Has anyone tried a spray liquid electronic "contact cleaner" on a device like this before?
Weird
Oddly enough, I have had this problem a little bit with mine as well. However mine is the space bar. I, like many others I am sure, have hopped from ROM to ROM. When I changed ROMs the last time, it seemed to fix the issue. It was really weird because a lot of the times I would type something, and the letters would turn out something like this:
Iw antt oe at atj oes.
Like I said, I just swapped ROMs and it seemed to fix it. maybe the t9?

You are correct sir! Just run "disable xt9" (found plenty of places on the kaiser forum) and your problem should be fixed.
I too have had this problem. I noticed it with the d, r, and space bar keys. Interestingly enough the keys that i press often (Take A for example [I have it mapped to the A button in PocketNesterPlus]) aren't hard to press at all. What I'm trying right now is pressing the problem keys over and over again to see if they "loosen up". Best Case Scenario: It works. Worst Case Scenario: I ruin an expensive piece of equipment.
Update: This might be working. To test which keys were unresponsive i typed abcdefghijklmnop.... without exerting any extra effort. The keys w and r didn't show up so i kept working them. I repeated the test and I got r to work. perhaps i am unknowingly pressing r harder, or perhaps not.
hey guys
have been a reader more than a poster on this awesome site..
but i have run into some trouble :/
within the past week, everytime my phone gets slightly hot, the screen alignment goes totally out.. like really out..
for example i manage to open the notes app..
if i tap the extreme left side, the draw tool will draw in either the center, or even far right.. its extremely frustrating.
Happens mostly after a phone call, using gps, or plugging phone into usb/charging..
im using Panosha's 2.2 full
Radio .05
I have tried loading the original HTC rom that came with the phone... no difference..
any help would be greatly appreciated
oh, and i do re-align... 10-15 times a day..
when the phone is cool, it runs like a dream

When you have the same probs with the htc original rom, then it has nothing to do with a cooked roms :-(

exactly what mine does
even right after a screen re-align
sigh

thanks guys
damn, mine does the same from time to time!
does anybody have a solution?
did a replacement fix the problem?
unfortunately i havnt had a chance to take it in yet, but i have logged the problem with my service provider..
the problem occurs alot more when i used panosha's rom/s
with the default (and now alphazero) the problem seems less frequent, but definitely still happens..
happened badly yesterday when i used gps to get my girlfriend to a casting, but switched on car A/C and after 5 minutes it was cool again *shrug*
its really annoying though
will let u know when i finally get to taking it in, unless u get there first
Hi there, I have the exactly problem what you had. Whenever the machine is hot, it becomes mad. Any solution could be reslove the problem?
It really sounds like a hardware issue... When you return the phone to the store please flash back to the original stock rom (for warranty purposes )
same problem
i am getting he same alignment problem.i do it many times a day but still tapping somewhere on screen taps the other way.very difficult to dial phone numbers

i dont think its an hardware issue,as after i align it works fine for few hours and then i have to align again to make the taps work acurately.........i have heard there is a cab file for it.if any one can post it here.........................or make a cab file so that clicking it makes the alignment as it was default with the new phone
It is a hardware issue. the screen somehow (usually when carried in front pants pocket) will get pressed and SHIFTED. Then screen pushes against the side-cover and this fools the touch-sensitivity of the screen. Try yourself - try to shift screen to one or other side, and directly after it will be better. it's still a service matter though. Send it for repair.
This is a known issue. You need to exchange the unit for a new one.
hey guys...
so late last year i took the phone in and it spent 3 weeks at leaf (HTC distributer here is south africa)
i got the phone back, turned it on in the store.. and guess what... still screwed..
i threw my toys to say the least and got a brand new phone..
the new phone was 110% up until 2 weeks ago..
it started doing the same damn thing (to a lesser extent)
i have found that its a connection problem..
the touch pad is very all over the place if used normally (so basically its unusable)
but if i hold down the top left of the phone(pushing down just above the start menu) with my left hand and use my fingers on my right.. the phone works perfectly again..
does anyone know how to fix this?
its so frustrating, especially knowing im going to be without it for 3 weeks or more again
hmmm ...
i heard that the radio-part is for managing the curcuits.
try an other rom.
but i cant give garanty, i hard it only.
I won't complain about the cracks, or the recessed screen, or even the slow speed (especially video playback, otherwise its good enough). I mean every device has it's own pros and cons. I like my X1, but what I am most dissapoinded in it, is the keyboard. I bought this device for his qwerty keyboard, and it is not very convenient. Ok than I can get used to it, but it started to have keys which need to be pressed really hard to get the letter from it. And that is really annoying and make my KB much slower for writing.
So how do you find your X1 KB? Do you have the already standard KB problem - some buttons needs to be pressed hard, other just get the double letter?
Do you find the TP1 and TP2 keyboards more convenient? Anyone testing omnia pro (the sliding version)?
In the end I'll either clean the KB by myself, or take it to SE for warrany (once the buttons stop working at all). But you know I had a custom SPL, so I need to revert this too. And I've spent more than $800 for this device.
No issue for me with my X1: no cracks: no double letters, no need to press hard on keyboard
The only issue: when I press on one key of the keyboard, it take a little time for the letter to appears on the screen... (sometime, the last letter of a word become the first letter of the next word...)
One of the things that steered me toward the X1 was the hardware keyboard, but I hardly ever use at all. It's like brand new.
I'm glad I don't rely on it judging by some of the posts on here with all the drama it can cause.
Installing the xt9 software and using sktool to make it the default after a reboot etc more or less made my hardware keyboard redundant. Occasionally I'll use it, but not often.
It is perfect for me. Works flawlessly, never had any issues with it, very convenient and comfortable.
I had the same problem.
some keys needed to be pressed real hard, while others place 2 letters.
So i went back to the store.
First time they cleaned the inside.
still...
Second they replaced the KB and the cabel that connects it to the processor.
still..
third time they send it to Sony ericsson, where multiple parts we're replaced.
still..
at that moment i got took a insurance at the store, this was possible because it was testes bij SE.
and with this insurance, i got a new one from the store^^
so my problem is solved.. for now..
Same here...no probs at all...very smooth.

Man, I really hope my X1 won't be so tough to fix. It was working flawlessly for the first 6-7 months, but then I start having th KB issues.
no problem for me
but guess if one use it around dust and high humidity dust could
turn into dirt layers which could cause what you seem to exp
sometimes the fn button/the blue one doesnt work but the keyboard on the x2 actually looks proper but yea the keyboard isnt great is it
biggest dissapointment would be... the recessed screen.
besides that, it's a considerable phone for all day use.
i have had the keyboard problem on 2 of the 3 x1s i have had. hoping when mine comes back from repair it is sorted. although the keyboard is very annoying and slows writing down alot, its the cracks that really rune the x1 as a phone (in the sense that even if u get it fix its very likely to crack again. every times this happens u have to send the handset back to repair which take 2+ weeks).
odd I only had 1

2 replacements from because of cracking
9+ months with the same device . No problemos (hardware lol).
I also had the kb problems... at first it is only the space bar... since the space bar is long.. i cannot trigger the space bar efficiently using my right hand.. sometimes it double taps and sometimes it doesn't tap... so i switch to pressing the spacebar with left hand...
then the "." key.. most often times it double presses... then i lost my phone...
(guess what) i still bought an x1... as of 1 week. the kb still doesn't show up..
My friend Ada got this phone and she told me that sometimes when she wanted to use KB, the screen just stopped and she had to wait for some time until the screen made the reaction...
when i first got my phone and started to use it, i was really dissappointed with just about everything... but in the end, it turned out to be a pretty good phone.
i was looking to get the tp2 for its bigger screen but i dont think i would like it without the scroll pad. plus i didnt want to buy another phone with just a bigger screen and same specs.
in the end... no need to upgrade when the x1a that i have is doing everything that i need it to do.
i have the exact same problem...
my only 3 keys that seem to get...stuck all the time are the I O P
sometimes even the backspace, it does get annoying, and plus if i get it to go at one hit..it would double the letters...
i guess its time to change to the x2
where do you get it repaired btw? its just that i bought my phone in indonesia unlocked, it has its warranty and everything, but i'm in canada now...do you think a carrier would want to take in that warranty?
I had the kb problems after 6 months of use as well, double/triple letters and keys were needed to be pressed harder to register. Had no warranty to get it fixed so I worked around it by installing the XT9 software.
Learned to type with the tips of my thumbs rather than at the base so the keys registered and the double keys issue was taken away because of the predictive txt. So I'm happy with my X1 despite it's kb problems hehe
First of all. Xperia x1 - the best phone till this day.
but i have some problems. I have the phone abouth 5-6 months now and:
1. M, N and SPACE buttons sometimes when i vant to tap a button they write like MMMM or NNN ajd SPACE semethimes tipes 3-4 spaces instead of just one.
2. for the last 3 weeks sometimes while making a call i dont hear a thing but then i turn on the speaker and i can hear the ringing or the other person who has already answerd. but it i turn off the speaker i dont hear him any more. I noticed sometimes it helps if i slide open and close the phone but not always.
3. Abouth an hour ago I wanted to slide open the phone to surf the net a little and when i start tho slide the screen (even very slowly) whe screns every other row gets black imediatly, the other rows of pixels that didnt get black imediatly start to fade and in a second of 2 the whole screen is black here and there some grey stripes are visible but it looks awful. like my xperia is diyng.
problem 2 and 3 seem to be caosed because of some slider/contact problem.
Now i have hard SPLed my xperia and i would like to get it to factory settings. I would like even that bootloader version or what ever its called to be the factory one. I have original WWE R3AA but the bootloader is stil the dard SPLed one Onlix or something like that.
Does anyone have any ideas abouth my 3 problems?
Does anyone have any idea abouth recovering the factory bootloader?

I lol'd.
OP he is right. Your problems are hardware related, not software.
yeah i have the same problem! most of the keys of the left side of the keyboard write multiple times. I'd not call Xperia the best mobile... sony messed up on this phone! all the pre release hype amounted to a greatly faulted machine! if 800$ gets you a phone whose case paint comes off easily, keyboard starts to die, cracks on the case and really sucky panels then how can it be a great device! too bad now i am stuck with this abomination!
The keyboard issue is a common one I think. I took mine back to be repaired and it came back with a new keyboard....
