I now have the phone for a couple of months now. I am now starting to listen to music on my phone but the problem I have, I can't get the music to play the next song which is in line. I play one song than it repeats over and over. Oh yeah I use the window media player and I'm trying put all the songs on a play list but I don't know how to get them there. Can somebody help me?
Can somebody just guide me as if I am a noob and don't know what I'm doing? Well actually I am a noob but please can somebody help me! Thank you
I would recommend getting a proper music player like "Pocket Player" or "Pocket Music". You can get free players as well. "Mortplayer" and "S2P" are great.
About WMP. Did you check:
wmp ---> menu ---> shuffe/repeat
Maybe you have clicked on repeat by accident?
where can I get the pocket player or pocket music from?
I tried the repeat and shuffle thing but even if I click the button that is suppose to play the next song doesn't play. I can click the previous button but it replays the song.

Nitrogen is a good music player too.
The link you have provide. I downloaded it and transfered it to my phone and now its saying I can't in stall it. It says 'PocketPlayerSetup' is not a valid Pocket PC application.
You've probably downloaded the windows executable. If you want to use that then ensure you have your phone connected and Active Sync is started and execute the program from your windows PC. Otherwise look for the .cab file from the server and install that from the phone.
Interesting .. I've just yesterday looked for a decent player .. and I have found this:
Nitrogen player: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-nitrogen-player.html
It's rather simple, but it has all I need, like album art, and it can play folders (I hate making playlists), and it has nice finger controls. It can also play with screen off and HW buttons still active.

Great find guys! Thumbs up.
that nitrogen player looks good im going to check it out
Cool. The nitrogen player is working great. Thanks
GS Player .
I had forgotten about it. Very useful despite its win 95/98 looks .
It has equalizer, effects, etc. and more options and tweaks than you can imagine.

It'a really a gr8 player.Nice sound and volume higher than the default players - I have installed 6.1 v16 x1 rom by touch it.
Actually I have some problems with it. I mean one problem. Sometimes it clicks. It's like once per 5 minutes, but the playback is just not perfect. I had the same problem with CorePlayer, but there using higher thread priority solved it.
Nitrogen does not have such option, but the problem seems to be the same. If I change the priority for all 4 nitrogen threads in the task manager, it works fine.
Guess I will write to the author to provide that option.
If I'm not usung MediaPanel,
I admire LCGJukebox - simple look, skinnable,
all needed functions (Also EQ however I never use it...)
Absolutely gr8. And plays folders.
First off, would like to say thanks to all the great people here who have helped me over the years in unlocking, modding, theme-ing and generally hacking my various phones... I have never felt the need to start a thread as I could always find the answer somewhere in here - but this one has me stumped.
Since purchasing my NexusOne (running CM5.0.6), I have been searching for an app to replace Pocket Music Player that I used to use on my WinMo phone. Basically what it was able to do is read m3u files that had URLs instead of local file names. I think I have tried every Android media playing app and they are unable to read the file (except for one) - they actually delete the file from the SDCard after trying to play it! DroidLive was the only app I could find that would load and play the file, but provides no way to view the playlist, skip tracks or read any of the metadata (because I think it assumes its a live stream).
Why is this is important? I am currently running an apache webserver on my D-Link DNS-323 along with a bit of code called musicbrowser (open source project) that allows browsing, streaming (flash based), playlist creation & downloading of music on my home network. Basically, you navigate to the tracks you want, hit stream and it sends you an m3u file with the URLs of the tracks you queued. That way I always have access to whatever tracks I have recently purchased (not to mention the fact that I have ~ 200 GB of music, and some days still can't find something I'm in the mood for).
And just so people know, I have tried every alternative out there - orb (buggy as all hell, server crashes frequently), subsonic (the android app doesn't actually stream - it just downloads the entire playlist to your SDCard), & tonido (unstable as per orb). I was very happy with the way musicbrowser was working on WinMo and just want to get back there with Android.
And so... does anyone know of an app that will properly play M3U files with URLs in them?
(Sorry about the long-ish post, but I wanted to make sure people understood what I was asking for.)
Not sure if it will suit your needs but give steamfurious a shot
m3u Player
Can window media player play .m3u file as a online radio
Is any other software can play .m3u file for window mobile 6.5
Try http://www.gmote.org/faq for "Gmote".
In the FAQ it says:
Are music playlists supported?
Yes. Currently, the M3U format is supported. If your playlists are in a different format, it's possible to convert them to the M3U format. Try Googling something like "WPL to M3U". Also, please let us know what your favorite playlist type is so that we may add it to future versions.
Also, when you select a single song to play, all other songs in that directory will be queued and played after the selected song.
With froyo we get native support for music streaming but I have yet to see any details about the formats supported.
Streamfurious is a no go. Tried it, but thanks for the suggestion.
I'm not exactly sure what the WinMo question was getting at, but no - WMP would not play them but just about every other player did - Core, Pocket Music, Mort...
GMote is an app that controls a local source from a network location & and what I am looking for is to play networked music via a local source.
Perhaps I will just have to wait for 2.2 and hope that solves my problem.

You could try Subsonic to stream your music. I tried it a few weeks ago, and it worked. Not as user friendly as most to set up, but it looks like you could handle it easily.
I have tried subsonic and while it claims to stream, all the android app does is download everything to the device (ie. it was trying to download my entire music collection OTA - not good for my data plan.)
I just flashed froyo to my device and while I am overall thrilled with it, I am unimpressed that the streaming m3u issue is still there...
Still looking for a solution if anyone finds one! Thanks for all the input thus far.

I've written and published a program called "Just Playlists" which reads M3U files and uses them to directly locate music files on the SD card via file paths. I'm close to releasing a new version that will also stream music pointed to by URL's within the M3U (or PLS) playlists. I added this feature to allow for playing SHOUTcast/ICEcast streams, but it will also play remote audio files. This may help you out. The only caveat is that I don't get ID3 tag information from the streamed files and I re-connect to the server for each URL, so the gap between tracks may be a bit large.
Another issue you mention is that your M3U files are being deleted by Android. I can explain this one. When Android scans your SD card for media files, it reads the M3U files it finds and, if it can't find any tracks on your SD card corresponding to the file paths in an M3U file, it assumes the file is effectively empty and deletes it. To stop this from happening, place an empty file named ".nomedia" in the directory containing your M3U files. The media scanner will no longer touch this directory or any below it. The new version of "Just Playlists" has an option to create/delete these files, as well.
I hope to have the new version of my program released within a few days.
That sounds awesome! I look forward to release of your app!
I must say this has been most frustrating as this functionality is something I used my phone for the most (even more than the phone part!) and look forward to getting back to it.
Cheers,
H
EDIT: Just noticed your post was more than a few days old and you have released the new version! I am grabbing it now and will report back.
Just Playlists!
THANK YOU! I am literally almost in tears right now. I was so frustrated that I could not stream from archive.org (I bought a bluetooth receiver in my car specifically to be able to stream music in my car from my phone to the speakers). This has made my day. I will be donating after i give it a trial run. THANK YOU!
Try "A Online Radio." I like it better than streamfurious. Really, my only complaint is that it doesn't play WMA streams. I would KILL for a streaming audio program that did.

I'm really glad to hear JP is working out for you! Let me know if you run into any bugs or quirks. Streaming under Android seems to be a bit flaky, so I'm working to make JP's streaming more reliable, or, at the very least, to recover from streaming dropouts in as many cases as possible.

Subsonic doesn't download your entire collection, it creates a database of your entire collection so you know what you have and what you don't.

has anyone found a working soultion for this yet? I have a set of m3u and pls files which are saved URL's of online radio stations, some from shoutcast, some from other sources that on Windows Mobile I used GS Player to listen to
Just Playlists seems to come the closest out of any apps I've tried to working but either gives me an unexpected error message when trying to open the file or it looks like it has opened it but I get no playback.
I've tried StremFurious, VLC S&C and I think one or two others but no luck yet, curious if others have a solution
thanks!

Hey streaming works well with Just Playlist but I was hoping to find music player which shows me the content of the playlist.m3u and you can pick from there the song you wanna play... I got my music on NAS but I can access NAS from 3G also and would love to stream my music on the road to my phone... Any ideas for this? I can access the files via http or ftp/sftp... Also if anybody knows good php based media library script with account managment, please tell me (with mobile-layout would be awesome)

it is all custom and can be modded. it also automatically generates playlists of your mp3 folders
I'm relatively new to the scene, but loving my Nexus One. Unfortunately, there's one thing that I am having trouble finding - a music player app that lets me browse by genre tags.
I use MediaMonkey to organize my music collection and sync it over to my N1 - this works awesome. However, when I listen to my music, I listen like you would an FM radio, i.e. 'I'm in the mood for Country music', rather than a specific artist or album. Annoyingly, I have yet to find a music player that lets me do this.
Has anyone found one? I know the HTC Sense UI music player lets you browse by genre, but I really don't feel like junking up my N1 just to get this small feature.
Not really a solutions, but what I did was create playlists for each genre I have. Then I can just use random shuffle on said playlist that I am in the mood for.
Mixzing........
Check out Meridian player. You can play by Genre in that app.

I just got a Lumia 920 and I absolutely hate the music players they have on it. The Nokia app is only a little better than the stock Xbox music app. For one thing, you can't specify where to look for your music, so it adds any MP3 file on the phone to your music list, which makes doing shuffle a pain. And for some reason, it is impossible to get a playlist on the phone unless all the songs are in the same folder. Anyone know a decent music player, or at least a way to get a good playlist on the phone? I tried using Mediaplayer from the pc and no luck.
Thanks for any help!
yeah and i cannot see all songs now playing (album tracks), only one. I cannot see how many songs in album remains and cannot select another. It sucks

Disagree totally. On my Nokia Lumia the player is pretty nice, does what it's supposed to. Has an equalizer with presets and manual, suggests Nokia MixRadio channels where locally played music can be found (great to find other good music) and shows background images of the playing band from the net. It's actually a very nice player.

Just if you compare it to a stone. if you compare it to a decent music player it sucks. but in regards of your other postings i sense you dont care about the rest anyways
I ended up dumping my 920 and going back to Android on a Samsung S3, and much happier now. Not just for the music player (though PowerAmp is awesome!), but for the horrendous lack of basic features. Too bad, I really wanted to like my Windows phone.
I also don't care for the music player apps available on the Lumia 920. I keep hoping for a Rockbox port - mostly because it supports all the codecs I have.
Great alternative for music player on wp

I play mostly local music stored on my phone. And for those uses musictastic is by far the best player I have found. Its free, reads playlists I create on my desktop from windows media player, looks great, shuffle fun too works as it should, and displays album art correctly. Definetly worth a try.
Hi,
I am making a Foobar2000 control app by using the foo_httpcontrol add-on. I figured out how I can run certain commands, but I am completely blank on how to get information back from the server like playlists or current playing song. Does anyone have exprience with this on Android or knows how to do it on wp8?
Also: currently I am using a hidden browser for executing the commands, would it be better/possible to use webrequests or something for that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't say I could help you with foo_httpcontrol. I haven't used it that much.
I'd recommend using the DLNA plugin instead. Using the DLNA app made either by Nokia or HTC (it was that way with wp7, not sure on wp8) would be a similar experience to playing music that's in the music+video tab. Most DLNA apps have the capability to play music from the phone to another device, play music from another device and share it to a third device, e.g. Phone Music -> foobar, foobar -> WP8 -> Bluray player.
Also the album art will display if its in the same folder as the music (the dlna plugin on foobar looks for the folder.jpg first.)

Thank you for your answer, but I don't think that is what I am looking for. My desktop has a music collection that is far greater then the 32gb of my device, and the sound quality is a lot better as well. So I don't want to be streaming from or to my device. Also since my library has about 50.000+ songs I'd prefer to use my well known and set-up music player over searching through my windows folders.
I have seen a couple of android apps that control Foobar2000 by using the plugin I use as well, and they are able to get the song info etc. So it is possible, I just can't figure out how.
(I did download the Nokia Play To app, because streaming like that is also useful at other times )

Well most of my foobar collection are chiptunes, (vgm/sid/gbs) modules (mod, xm, it) and album in a single flac with cue files (flac doesn't always play, but mostly works) so I need it to stream WAV 48khz (its the highest I've tried) over wireless N using that dlna plugin. I have seen some foobar apps thats in the marketplace, but nothing that I'd seen work. Also somthing else that works, is the foo_touchremote plugin. It uses the boujour service (also in Apple's iTunes, but used in other things as well) and works simply with entering a pairing code.
If you still would like to use foo_httpcontrol, I'd ask over at http://www.hydrogenaudio.org.
