I have installed this app on Drizzy's Hero Builds, Cyanaogen, and now JAXROM and in all the cases this app has caused my sd card to fail and come across as damaged... when i set the app up i only chose to move browser cache and move google maps cache to the sd but left all the others on the phone... it worked good for a few hours in each instance... but then my phone would go to sleep and the problems would happen. my phone wouldnt come out of sleep and i would be forced to pull the battery. once the phone restarted i would get the "damaged sd card" or "sd card has been removed" notification. so i installed move cache and all seems fine.... for now...
anyone else run into any type of problem with this app?
it should be the other way around. moving cache to your SD card will cause it to fail more quickly because the cache will keep on writing to the sdcard. that is why the devs leave it on your internal memory, plus it is faster off internal then on sdcard. maybe your problem is something else, something deeper. did u replace ya sdcard or u still using the same one that is supposively "damaged" ?

im still using the same sdcard and havent had any problems since i removed the app...
what brand memory card and how old. It may not have wear leveling so the constant writing to it by moving your cache there is slowly killing it or it may just be time to get a new one. I would say try a new card and see if problem persists. I just grabbed a class 6 8gb from fry's for $18. If problem remains then return the card and just dont use that app

hey guys/ girls i have a serious problem.. i think i have a virus on my wing or something... it was working fine for the 1st four days i had it then i just happend to check storage card memory and all my music, pics, videos, etc are gone plus i have these weird lookin empty folders in my storage card that i didnt put there that have squares, number signs and dollar signs for the name... its about 10 of them and i cant delete them... plus to top it off.. its murdering my memory....i have a 2 gig card i checked it n it said i only have like 16 mb left n it seems like every couple of hours i lose a mb in program memory (side bar: i hard reset and soft reset my wing a few days ago 2 get rid of the tmo bull so i started with like 30mb storage and 15mb program plus a 2 gig card) ... so im thinkin wtf?! cuz all i have installed on there is the chi- tai battery status plugin which has been working fine, spb back up, spb mobile shell, and google maps and they are all installed on the storage card, and i know this takes no where near 2 gigs and yes i already soft reset and even tried a hard reset but no luck it was all working fine until last night.. so i am asking for:
1) any idea what is going on with my baby?!? lol
2) any ideas/ apps to fix this cuz im freakin out right now
3) any ways i can avoid this from happening again
It sounds to me like your storage card is getting corrupt... which is not uncommon due to some bug. Look at some of the posts for "corrupt storage card"
here's one of them

lol yea thanks I realized that right after I started the thread.... I decided to google corrupt micro sd card on wing and that's one of the links that popped up... took it out n wing works fine now.... how can I fix my sd card?? cuz my computer won't even read it to reformat anymore

you might have to repurches a new one
when i changed roms, i copied all the non-corrupt folders to the computer, then formatted the card. everything has been fine since then =)

Before you go and toss your SD, try this formatter program from Panasonic. It fixed my card time after time.
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html
BTW, dont use FAT32 for the format. Use plain FAT which is actually FAT16.

1) Nope. and thats not from lack of research or trials
2) I have nothad a problem for a week since I loaded the Touch_IT ROM. The ROM is sweet.
3) Again, Nope. As long as I ran the Tmobile ROM, I kept getting the SD corruption.
Good luck and if you still cannot fix your problem, try the Touch_IT ROM with a 6mb pagepool . It's fast and increses memory by a bunch.
your wing is not resonding
have you tried a clear storage under setting and then system this sends the device intototal reset and all factory settingd...
I might be pushing my luck.... but ever since I stopped having my tmobile wing write mail attachments, camera pics, and Iexplorer temp files to the SD card I have not had a corrupt sd.
Could be luck, but it's been weeks now. Whereas before my SD would end up corrupt several times a week.
Would prefer a cab patch for this or something to that effect.
All I did to mine to fix it was, back it up, reformat it with the builtin winxp formating program and pop it back in. Hasn't happened since then.
I had apps2sd by lucidrem running on my phone and it was fine. I was out today and my sd card was 'removed' although I didn't touch it. This ended up bricking my phone, because the sd is removed and there is no data or delvik etc. Is there a method to use apps2sd without it being permanently affected when an sd is removed?
A reinstall of rom has fixed it however I have lost everything off the phone now
Thanks
Tucka
LucidRem's Apps2SD uses symlinks which I believe is now preferred over the one used by MarcusMaximus (forgot what its called ) only way to remove a sdcard safely without screwing up your phone is if the phone is turned off. No idea how the sdcard was 'removed' if you didn't touch it. Happened sometimes to me, but never found out what caused it. Hope this helps.
Best to apply Apps2SD again really or use a ROM that automatically enables it by default if a partition exists (Cyanogen/Dude).
Also a small sidenote... The term "brick" means your device would no longer be functional at all, I.E Unable to turn it on using any method. A more suitable term would probably be "crashed" instead.
I only mention this because the term bricked is being used far too loosely to describe the wrong symptoms.
Sorry for loosing brick loosly, just presumed that was what it was when the phone won't get past the G1 splash. So, say I want to watch a movie or something on a different memory card (won't be able to fit all my stuff on one) all I have to do is switch phone off, remove memory card, insert different one (preferably also with a2sd configured for meridian video?) and that will work?
I think the problem is with movement and sudden knocks that the card comes out. I was running through a storm when it said memory card was removed.
Thanks
No worries about the terms as there are an awful lot of them in the world of technology! Long as we're all learning then we can't argue ^_^
To be honest, hot swapping SD cards is a bit long winded... Its best to save up and invest in a larger memory card if possible (Class 6). Not sure what size your SD card is, but if it can't hold a movie then it could be time to buy a new one.
Also if you use the older Apps2SD program (1.1 I believe) it uses Symlinks as alritewhadeva mentioned and it shouldn't cause your phone to crash totally if the SD card is removed.
Best solution though is to buy a new SD card, you should be able to find one on the cheap on the net.
its an 8gb C4, however I am travelling and will be on a 10 hour flight later this month, and was wanting lots of films and tv shows etc. May just compress and squeeze them onto my 8GB.
Thanks a lot
Tucka
using a2sd and 2 memory cards doesnt work. All your app data and cache is on your sd card and the phone wont be able to boot without the right sd card in the phone (trust me i have tried). I suggest buying a new card maybe 16 gb.
Hope they have a charging point on your flight! It would kill your battery watching a movie for that long haha. Better off with an iPod/MP3 player I reckon.
But yeah, you can either add more compression or reduce the resolution/framerate to fit more on your SD card. Quality will drop but at least it will keep you entertained.
2 batteries plus a portable battery charger ftw
Haha, that should be sufficient then! Very well prepared ^_^ I was thinking about getting one of those wind up backup chargers for emergancy use once... No idea if its any good.
If everything is sorted tuka, could you please edit the title to add "[SOLVED]" so people know? Thanks!
I have been running CM7 off of my SD card for several weeks now, and it has been working very smoothly -- virtually no problems.
Today I installed the updated Barnes & Noble Nook app. It worked fine the first couple of times, but now every time I try to launch it I get the message:
"The application has stopped unexpectedly, please try again."
Then I am given the option to force close or report. The problem is that this is now happening with the majority of my apps. They are refusing to open. When I try to use any of my browsers, they open and shut in the blink of an eye.
The only two apps that appear to be working OK are Market and YouTube.
I tried rebooting, but that didn't fix anything.
Also, my Nook is showing a very low wifi signal, while at the same time my iPod Touch shows a strong signal.
Anybody have any ideas on how I can clear this all up? Is there any troubleshooting app I can run? Thanks.
Update: Market doesn't work now either. I can open it up, but it crashes when I try to download anything.
Dunno if it would cause this... but did you recently modify your build.prop file to install Netflix? If so, restore the original file, reboot, and see if it helps.
It could be oxidation on the microSD card connectors...
I have been messing around with Android on SD for some time, and I don't know what kind of microSD you are using but some of mine require periodic cleaning of the card edge connectors.
Just yesterday, one card I had started with the FCs and crashes and after cleaning the edge connectors it is working fine again.
I dunno, but that is what works for me...

Thanks for your suggestion. I took the card out and cleaned the contacts, but everything is still acting flaky. I tried to uninstall the nook app, which is the last thing I installed before everything started going haywire, but it force closes and won't let me uninstall it.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to wipe my sd card clean and reinstall CM7 all over again if somebody can't come up with a solution.
I have the market Nook app installed here on the 2.6.32 Beta 3.1, no problems..

Yeah, I really don't think it's the nook app that's causing all these problems, but what is? CM7 was working beautifully with no problems until today. Now, everything is force closing on me.
Probably somewhere down the line, corrupted SD card. Not all CM7/SD card installs play well, especially if you're using a Class 6/10 card as they have piss poor random small block writes. Read this thread:

Wow, that's pretty amazing. Thanks. I am using a Class 6 card, thinking that it would be better. Who knew?
Do you have Bluetooth turned on? My FCs stopped when I turned it off.
I was having a problem with a lot of force closes as well and it ended up being the SD card. Started off with a Transcend Class 6. Force closes all the time. Then tried a Sandisk Class 4. Runs smooth. The difference was night and day.

I'll have to give that a try. Thanks.
How could this be?
I have two Transcend 8GB Class 6 SD cards. On one of them I have froyo, on the other is CM7.
Yesterday, the CM7 card started going wacky, locking up or force closing practically every application I tried. I rebooted, but that didn't help.
Well, I turned my Nook off, took out the CM7 card and popped in the froyo card. I then powered up. Now the froyo card is acting the same way as the CM7 card did.
How could this be? Is this just a coincidence, or is something internally in the Nook causing this? I mean, before yesterday, both cards were working fine, and then one day they both go bad? Hmmmmm?

I at one point actually got something inside my microSD card slot, but I didn't know it until it got on my microSD card and came out...
Maybe the connectors inside your Nook need cleaning...
I am gonna scrape up some change and buy a 4GB CL4 card from the 'shack' and see how CM7 likes it...
On a side note, does anyone have a life expectancy for microSD cards that have Android run off of them?
Not to knock the SD, but not goto eMMC, then you wouldn't have to worry about bad SD card connections. There are plenty ways to go back to stock. I could see using SD for a beta test, of course that's just my opinion.

Well, I got my nook back in March, didn't have any problems then. And haven't played with a newer one, mine was simple.
Ok, for some reason my ROM thinks its an awesome idea to store crap(Apps data) on my external sd card while having 2GB of dedicated internal storage left untouched. I dont quite get why people love this App2SD bulls*** but I loathe it. Apps performance suffers because external sd cards are never quite as fast as system ones, and a whole load of reasons more.
I like to format my external SD quite a lot and find that 30-40 of my apps are now useless, and I have to reinstall them. How do i stop this from happening? I dont want my system to install ANY app on my SD card, EVER. And if it must, let it be the internal one, not the external. I'm on 2.3.4 Thanks in advance.
I'm also interested in this. Dunno why it can't be switched off especially with the huge amount of free storage on the SGS....
I would really like the answer to this, since I have yet to find a fix. Please anyone, this is a very annoying issue! And it should be simple to tweak, since its just a command probably.
I love marshmallow's adoptable storage feature, allowing me to install more apps. This feature worked beautifully for about a month and a half. However, I shut down the device, plugged it in to charge, went to sleep, and the next morning, the apps that were moved to the sd card were not available anymore. They were all greyed out on my launcher(Nova). I moved about 4 gigs worth of mostly games. Fortunately, most of them had cloud storage, but some favorite games didnt. This isn't that big of a problem, but I'd like to try to fix it. So, I went here for help.
At first, I thought the class 10 SanDisk 16gb sd had just gotten bumped out of the slot where the connections happen, so I opened the back cover and removed and inserted the sd card. The notification that prompted me to put the sd back in went away for a few seconds, but then came back. I repeated the process of removing and inserting the sd a few times, but still no moved apps were available. I put the sd into an adapter, then into my laptop, and it showed on file explorer. So the sd card could still be recognized, but maybe unusable.
I dont know what happened, one day it was working, the next day it wasn't. I know i formatted it as internal and portable storage a few times, so maybe that wore it out. I'm running cm13
Hello,
On my phone I used the micro SD card normally as external storage. On day I plugged in my headphones and there was no music. I though that the micro SD card must have come out. However, reinserted it it didn't work. I wouldn't open on computer either. While I don't have a solution, I am pretty sure I also had the same problem.
Once I was taking pictures with my phone when it crashed and rebooted. Some hours before the crash I uninstalled some apps and installed some others (but never rebooted the phone). After the phone started again after the crash, all the pictures and files were gone, the uninstalled apps were there as if I've never uninstalled them and the new installed ones dissapeared.

how long have you used your sd card? i'm sure that the more you use a micro sd card, the more it will wear out and become unuseable/corrupted. That has happened to me before, where the sd card just stopped working.

I have used it for about 1 year. So it may be that but, it has never occurred before.
Same problem here, you can read it here. While I am writing hopefully my files from Titanium Backup are transfered to my laptop. It got worse and worse, in my opinion the sd-card has reached it's end of life because of it's heavy usage. Error occured the first time after the phone got really hot recording gpx tracks. Bye bye sd-card
Another opinion is that warranty is over after two years, so the phone can quit it's duty now - obsolescense plans

yeah, i'm starting to think my micro sd just bailed from wear like that too, but i got to use mine for just over 3 months. i ejected the sd and put it into my computer, and interestingly enough, on my computer it reads 16 megabytes. i was like WAAT that cant be, i formatted it, put it back in my phone as portable, and it read as the normal 14gb. i'm starting to think my sd as internal is the cause of my random reboots. im even running the lastest cm13 update too...
i guess ill try and use my sd as just portable storage from now on, and see if i get any random reboots..
I switched to TurboROM which is using the sd-card as a portable media device, so no more encryption, heavy usage and complete data loss if you do not get your encryption key with root permission.
System space left after complete recovery of my apps with TB is quite nice - but you do not have the possibility to use App2SD (correct me if I am wrong).
So the only way to save internal system space is to move pictures, movies and heavy openstreetmap cards to external.
