Im sorry if i posted this in the wrong section; I have no clue where im suppose to post this ;\. Anyway, i followed this tutorial trying to jailbreak my g1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOo2V9qCauc. I downloaded the RC29(From the youtube tut) and put it into my sdcard and turned it off and on by holding the power and camera button. So i got to the part where it asked me to update my image but when i finished i got a update terminated msg instead of complete\successful. Then it kicked me to the colorful\rainbow screen with red green blue and white. I have no clue what i did wrong and no idea what im suppose to do now, can't turn off the phone or anything. Can somebody please help ;x! Thanks
I desperately wanted to post and say to say it failed bc you think your phone is an iphone (jailbreak). However, after reading your post i would say abandon a video and follow the root guide that is a sticky on here... look at the information thread above your post and look in there for the root guide.
When it says to get a recovery.img get cyans in the development thread. When it says get a rom, get cyans 4.0.2 stable cupcake... when you are all done i rec the community hero theme.
I typed all of that and this thread was right below yours

Dang i took out the battery and turn the phone back on but i went back to the update image part >_>; . No matter which choice i choose i end up at the colorful screen....(Choices are either update or not)
is your rc-29 named DREAIMG.nbh exactly named that caps and all. also is your sdcard formatted to fat32.
Snail....
I went to bed last night thinking you were fine. Could you post exactly what steps you have done? If you press red (power) + menu + green (call) your phone will reboot (no need to pull the battery).
Did you remove (delete using your computer) the .nbh file when you put the image and update.zip file on your SD? Did you get the files from the site you visited for the video?
I strongly suggest following my first post.
Just like everyone else said, follow our guides instead of some video on youtube. Make sure your card is formatted to fat32 and try to update again. If that still doesn't work it might have been a bad download. So download DREAIMG.nbh (RC29) again. You can check the MD5sum to make sure its a good download and update again. And by the way jailbreaking ain't the same as rooting.

These are the steps i've done
1.Copy and Paste all the files within my sd card to my pc.
2.Changed my sdcard into fat32
3.Dragged the dream.nbh or w\e that i got from the video tut into my sd card.
4.Turned off my phone by holding the power button.
5.On by holding power and camera.
6.Then i got to the update image part and pressed power to update, buy failed to update and now end up stuck at the color screen.
I've tried to reboot and everything but everytime i turn it back on it always goes back to the color screen T___T

Have you redownloaded the DREAIMG.nbh file. It was prolly just a bad download. Happens all the time, thats why you wanna check the MD5sum.

Yea I do its supremeteam256 on aim. I'm at work now so I can't do it on my computer and my phone signal might be hit or miss, but I'll still log on just deal with me if it shows me cuttin in and out. But what your going to have to do is either put the new DREAIMG.nbh on your sd card either by a card reader or another electronic device that you can transfer files over to the sd card. And the last option will be to mount your card using ADB and just push the file to your sd card. But as of right now it sounds like you can't access your phone because of the bad file. So once you get that file on your card then you would be able to boot holding camera + power and apply RC29. You'll be straight after that.
Yay got through with the image update part and now im stuck at the setup wizard part. Somehow my phone has problem with communicating with google servers when i type in my google account. And yes i don't have internet. I canceled it because i got this when it first came out and for the first 1-2months nothing worked on it such. None of the messengers work D:< so i had no use of internet so i end up cutting it xD.

You don't open it... it's utility
open command prompt (window key +R, type cmd) from there you can run adb commands (adb shell, adb pull, adb push or whatever else you need)

I posted about this in another thread, and thought I'd start a new one. I couldn't figure out how to delete my first post about it, sorry, guys.
Anyway, I tried to install a theme, and now I'm stuck on the G1 boot screen (the first one). It just hangs there, doing nothing. I Tried to go over it with the JF 1.3 update.zip in recovery, but it didn't work, the phone just hangs. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm traveling for the next few months, and I'm seriously screwed without a phone.
Thanks!
If you can't boot and can't get into recovery your only recourse is to flash the NBH file from the bootloader and start from scratch. Also, you really probably should not be performing modifications and hacks on your main phone without some kind of a backup. GL

I can get into recovery- that's how I managed to try to reapply the JFV1.3 update.
I probably should have been more clear about that.

Yeah. No dice.
Perhaps the update didn't work because there was already an update.zip (the theme I tried to install) on my sdcard? When in recovery, what exactly do I type from adb to copy an update.zip from my sdk/tools directory to the sdcard? Do I need to have deleted the update.zip that was already on the card beforehand? I can't find a way of deleting anything from recovery.
Here's what I typed:
adp push update.zip /sdcard
I also tried:
adb push update.zip /sdcard/update.zip
I tried alt + s after both, and it went through the updating process, but I have no way of knowing if it tried to update using what I'd just pushed onto the sd card, or the old update that screwed up my phone. Did I at least put the update on the sdcard correctly?
Hope I'm making sense.
It sounds like you are applying the theme again. You need to try to delete that file from your sd card. The easiest way would be to get a card reader and delete what is on your card then put the new update.zip on it. If you can't get a card reader then you will have to find the linux commands to delete a file and use adb shell to execute the command. Good luck, you should be able to get your phone back.

same thing happened to me had to use JF rom to get it to work again. idk the linux command but i got an idea! if you dont have a card reader or another g1... you can try installing cupcake thru eng bootloader then convert back to JF's rom. Try that maybe it will work.
rm filepath/filename.extension
should be liek this
rm /sdcard/update.zip
If you are stuck in a loop, it's most likely due to using an ADP1 theme on an RC30 version of JesusFreke's release.
If that doesn't fix it, you will need to remove your apps manually through ADP, but let's take it one step at a time. Download and install JF's standard RC30.

That's what I was thinking, too. I managed to get to a reader this morning, and I was able to put rc30 on there, no problem. I'm up and running again!
I'm wondering why ADB didn't work to push the update to my card in recovery. Did I input the wrong commands? It acted as if it worked (took a couple minutes, showed the "28374 bytes blah blah" message".
Thanks a lot, everyone. I'm so relieved to have my phone again, and I've learned my lesson about modifying without backing up first.

To fix your problem just reflash your ROM. It's always a good idea to keep it on your card even after flashing.
Only install themes that support the ROM you're on...
i tried installing a theme on cm's v.4.999, and also got stuck on the bootscreen, however i just rewiped my phone and stalled the rom again. am currently running kingklick hero 2.0

You simply need to rename the one you DON'T want to use- or if in recovery, choose "select zip", not "update zip" from the list of options. Did you do a Nandroid backup before flashing? if so, you can do a restore from that working backup. And again, to re-iterate what another responder said, make sure you do a wipe before flashing again.- anytime I have experienced your problem ( and I have more than once) I have done a wipe from recovery than chosen a known good rom from my card after that to get up and running. I always keep a "rock solid" rom on my card for this reason, such as xRom 1.5r4. - chris aka [email protected]
Also- I am a bit confused; are you doing this from the phone while at the recovery screen, or with adb from your pc. You can also take out your sd card, put it into a card reader, and do your re-naming, loading of a rom, etc., then put the card back into your phone-cc
0. Make sure phone is hard-spl first
1. Make sure SD card is formatted with fat-32
2. rename the image file (ruu_signed.nbh) to rhodimg.nbh, then copy that to the ROOT OF THE MICRO SD CARD, Insert card into phone
3. Set your phone in bootloader (Hold the "volume down" and hold the power on button until you see the tri-color screen.
4. Then follow the on-screen instruction
5. (OPTIONAL) -after flash, make sure to hardreset (pull battery, insert battery then hold green and red PHONE buttons (send/end) and hold powerbutton) follow onscreen instruction.
thanks for the info
I've tried the above and somehow it won't work on my TP2, it stays at "Serial" text in the white box, I'm assuming it already went past the SD slot then? Checking for the image.
I have the Energy rom loaded on the SD card, named as explained in the first post in this topic, it is placed in the root of the SD card, no folders or other files exist on that card. I removed the SIM card from the phone just to be sure. Is there anything I am missing, or is there anyone else who actually used this method to flash his or her device?
Info:
SPL: OliNex 0.85
ROM: |RHOD|6.5|ROM|WWE| ★ EnergyROM "Warhawk" (23016) ★ | Built Aug 21 |Manila 2.5 / 2.1|
SD Card: 4GB MicroSDHC (No brand on card, supplied with the branded T-Mo TP2 (Vario V)
Formatted: fat-32
Thanks
The nbh file needs to be in capital letters! RHODIMG.nbh
And step 5 isnt to be done until the "Tap screen to set up device" screen!
Just reset when your phone says Update successful!
And done, name changed to the correct format. No luck. Reformatting the card now to see if that changes anything. Update in a few.
And that too didn't work sadly. Either someone here notices I'm doing something wrong, or I'll just wait till I get near a machine natively running Windows Running Mac OS here so can't run the executable, and read that it's not quite a good idea to flash it from a virtual OS.

You will want to partition your card so the nbh image is in a partion of at the largest 1G, anything larger makes it hard for the phone to find and read the nbh file! I have a 1G card just for flashing and it works perfect! And it also may be the mac, they never play nice with windows!
It's not the mac screwing it up in this case as I am using a virtual Windows OS to work on the card. (MacOS leaves some folders on the card that I don't want on it)
Will try partitioning the card, cheers. I'll update when I know more. ANd thanks for the help ^_^
Update:
Partioned the MicroSD card to 0.5GB, no change sadly.
thanks for information
Ok, SD update worked now, however, step 5 won't go (Oh crap...) Have the grey screen with "Update Complete" and "UPDATE SUCCESS" However, it won't do anything if I hold down Send/End/Power at the same time for over 10 seconds. How long should that take normally? What's my best option right now? Can't see any other than to unplug the phone and take out the battary, however, will this brick it?

Thanks for the swift reply! Done it, it's booting up as I am typing this. Didn't quite have the guts to just do that without having read I could when flashing from SD. (Was unsure how the device would react to soft reset then a first booth with the SD present etc)
Anyways, rambling. Thanks!

Everything you need to know is HERE. I really suggest you fully read the instructions so you avoid bricking your phone by mistake.
In re: making sure you're hardspl'd first, does that still apply if you're flashing an official ROM? Or just for user cooked ROMs?
I'm about to update my Verizon TP2 with the newly released official 6.5 from verizon. I'm not hard spl'd, and honestly, know very little about that particular modification.
not for official
I dont think you have to be hard SPL'd for an official ROM. I think everything is included in the ROM package. (at least for T-Mobile it is)
btw the .nbh does not have to be named in all capitals. I have personally done it both ways with no problems at all. RHODIMG.nbh works just as well as rhodimg.nbh

Thanks for the quick response!
Sadly, the way the install file is set up to work, I can't get to the nbh file. It insists on installing that via an active sync connection. I was hoping it would extract from the exe and schedule it for active sync installation, then I could hunt down the ROM, copy it to my SD card, and run it from there.

hmm.. sorry for kicking this post, but you can unpack the exe-file with winrar. just grab the biggest file you can find (RUU_signed.nbh, and rename it to rhodimg.nbh), copy it to your root-folder (fast way for accessing bootloader is to also copy the "EnterBootLoader.exe" -file to your SD-card, and to start that file after copying both the files). Now just enter the bootloader, and it works! (don't be scared when the screen goes black for a moment, and the bootloader has reloaded. It's meant to do that )
I still have a little question by the way: is it possible to flash the hardSPL this way? or should i rename it to something else?
No, Hard SPL needs to be done from the PC as it checks IMEI online and IP address. You only get 1 licence, can ask for more or purchase more licences, but it can't be done any other way...

Just to rule out any typos, plug your phone into your PC. Mount the phone. Navigate to the SD card and rename the recovery file to "recovery.img". Now unmount the phone. Then go to Terminal and type the following, hitting Enter after each line:
su (if prompted for super user access, just tap "Always Allow")
mount -o rw,remount /system
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Tell us if you get the same error message.
I have been trying to install android to NAND on my bell Vogue with no success. I had an early build of MYN's rom installed but I switched back to WM for a while because of battery life issues with android. Now that those issues have been taken care of I would like to switch back to android permanently.
I have been following all of the directions that I have read, but cannot seem to access the installer menu. I have tried holding down volume up, center d-pad and touching the middle of the screen and none of them will work.
I am coming from NFSFAN's latest WM rom with the radio fully updated. I am flashing the most recent Vogue images that I can find and it still doesn't seem to work.
Is there something that I am doing wrong? is there an alternative method to get a permanent install of android?
Thanks!

Thanks!

So what do you see when it starts up? Do you see tux and scrolling text?
yes i see all the text, but after it tells me to hold the center button to enter the menu it just continues along and tries to load android (which is not yet installed) and so it fails.
thanks for the reply!

try this - do a pinhole (soft) reset, then just after you feel the double buzz, give a good tap in the middle of the screen and hold it.
Ok, Will do. I will try that again... I have tried the middle of the screen before and I have tried holding from as early as right after boot to as late as right when it gives the hold message.
Still no luck... Does anybody else have any ideas as to what might be going wrong?
Also, would it be possible to run via haret and then install to nand somehow?
I tried to install to SD card and I still could not access the installer!
All of my buttons work, but for some reason they are not getting me into the installer. I think this issue started about the time they switched to holding center D-pad instead of volume up.
could I just use an old Vogue img file?
looking for any other ideas!
Thanks

What method of install are you using norootfs or the old way
I have been using norootfs. I have never used sqsh would it be possible to install that way?
EDIT: I am trying the SQSH method, but it seems like this is not a permanent install, is that correct? I would really like to be able to run android permanently.

What files do have in the andboot folder
When I was trying to install to NAND all I had in the andboot folder was the androidinstall.tar
when trying the SD card install I used all of the files included in MYN's download.
i am using an 8gb microsd HC card formatted FAT32 which I think is what it is supposed to be.

you don't have haret or a nbh file in the andboot folder
when trying to install to NAND I have no Haret (I don't think it is required) and in that case the NBH is flashed to the phone, but not on the SD card
when trying to install to SD i have Haret in the andboot folder, but no NBH.

Try reformatting the card because I had that issue with my card before but back up the info on the card first

Damn try downloading another version of haret to see if that will help
I have been trying all sorts of different versions. Most recently I have tried to install incubus26Jc's superfroyo RLS10 to no avail. Whatever I do I simply cannot get to the installer menu! I have tried holding center d-pad, volume up, camera and the middle of the touchscreen. none of these seem to work for me. Is there anything else I can try or does anybody know a reliable way of flashing to nand without the noMoRootFS method?
thanks!
Right... I need to put a file on my internal SD card..
Can someone please tell me how to access the Internal SD card? Thank you!
Connect your phone via USB then select to connect as an internal storage.
Or if it want Kies go to options, and chnge setting there.
If you are not rooted, open My Files or Astro and you are in the internal SD card. Drop the file in a folder if you need to or just loose.
If you are rooted, open Root Explorer and open the sdcard directory. Then do the same as above

Lol, ok first off go to settings/wireless and network/usb settings and select mass storage. Then on your PC go to my computer, connect the phone via USB, on your phone you'll see a green android and a button under it that says "Connect storage to PC", tap it and the android turns orange, you're now connected. Open up the phone's internal SD in "my computer" when it's displayed.
Copy your file to the phone and when your done tap the "Disconnect storage from PC" button, the android will turn green again, hit the back button on your phone and unplug from your PC. All done.
Okay - But I need to put an update.zip file onto my phone. Which folder does it go into?

In the internal SD root directory. That is not in a sub folder...just in /sdcard.

Just put it into the SD card as is, don't open any folders, if you have file extensions set to hidden on your PC it should just be "update", if there are files on your PC with extensions, such as .exe or .jpeg etc then it will be called "update.zip", the same applies to when it's on your SD, it should only end in .zip if everything else has an extension too.
What are you planning to flash? And do you know how to do it?
It helps if you give people an idea of what you're trying to do when you ask for assistance.

I'm really sorry for not being specific.
Basically, I'm waiting for my phone which should be back tomorrow, so I can flash this theme:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037176
Marcus gave me a link to ROMKitchen and I cooked up my own rom!
I read the instructions, telling me to flash stock JVB which I have downloaded, a custom kernel which I have also downloaded and I have received instructions from Marcus telling me to install the theme via clockworkmod.
I'd really, really appreciate me if you gave me a step by step guide on how to install it

You want to know how to flash the theme with CWM right?
Ok, do you know how to get into recovery mode?
Hold Volume up + Home + Power button all at the same time, as soon as the black and white Samsung screen appears let go of the Power button while still holding Volume up + Home. Keep holding until recovery screen appears.
See the pic attached.
Use the Volume buttons to scroll up and down through the available options, and the Power button to select the one you want.
First thing you want to do is select the Backup and Restore option.
Make a Backup before you go any further.
Once the Backup is complete scroll to Install zip from sdcard, press the power button, you will be asked if you are sure you want to Install the update, scroll down a bit to confirm that you want to install and press the Power button again. The update will begin installing, once it's done you'll need to choose the reboot option, do so by using the Power button.
Your theme should now be installed.
I read through some of the thread in the link you posted, seems like some people had problems with it, so if your phone starts acting funny ask Marcus or some of the guys who had issues and resolved them, they will be in a much better position to guide you step by step if it causes problems.
Best thing you could do is to read up on flashing, roms, and kernels before trying them, there's a wealth of info already posted here, patience and research are better than a bricked phone.
Hope that helps and good luck
