I am pulling my frickin hair out trying to figure this, so I am asking for help.
I am running xRom, everything up-to-date, and the only 3rd party messaging app I have is SMS Popup, which has been disbaled throughout my entire problem.
The issue is that whenever I get a text it is playing a full song out off my sdcard, despite my ringtone being set to "Don't Panic" in the settings. I erased the song w/ Linda File Manager, and after that it chose a random tone to play, not the one I had set. This is more acceptable to me since it is an actual messaging tone (1 or 2 notes) but I am just worried it is going to choose another song at some point, which is way too long when you are texting back and forth with someone.
Any ideas?
Edit: Ok I opened SMS Popup (disabled already) to double check it was turned off, and now it vibrates, which really sucks, I am rarely close enough to hear or feel the vibrations...
Try doing a wipe and then flash. That might fix it. If you have a partitioned sd card, try repartioning it...

That sounds like an extreme but it will work
You know that there are 2 places you can set your notifications from right? Once is menu/settings/sounds and display and the other one is when you open up messaging app hit menu/settings/notification settings,
See if that has anything to do with your problem before you start nuking your partitions
Good luck

This led me to the answer, thanks. What had happened was in the messaging application at some point I had selected the music, not realizing the two weren't tied together, which would make too much sense. Anyhow, I erased the song, so now nothing was selected, so for some reason it was cycling thru the different ringtones, which makes no sense, but whatever. So I set it back to the "Default Ringtone" option, and now it works fine. Thank God I didn't have to wipe, I probably would have just dealt with it for another few days, cause wiping stresses me worse than this **** did.

I'm sure this isn't the first time this has been a problem here. I've tried searching and found nothing.
I installed the XDA-Live 1.2... installed flawlessly. Installed the other apps I wanted, everything was working like a charm. Now suddenly I get no audible notifications on either email or SMS even though I have them set correctly. This just started yesterday and I installed the new ROM almost a week ago.
I've checked every setting I can think that would interfere with this and I just can't figure it out. Any ideas?
Here's what I have installed:
AT&T Tilt with the XDA-Live 1.2 ROM
Softkey app
Shantz Today Changer
Battery Status
Mobitv & XM Radio
Google Maps
Telenav
HTC Home Plugin & Customizer
HTC Task Manager
Wireless Today Plugin
IM+
SPB Pocket Plus
Pocket Controller
Mortscript
Pocket Cleaner
Auto Softreset
PIM Backup
SPB GPRS Monitor
I think that's it. Like I said, I've had all this installed since last week except SPB GPRS Monitor and Pocket Cleaner. Those were installed about 2 days ago. Notifications were working after that.
I'm just at a loss. Any ideas?
If this is a stupid answer then apologies but have you tried a soft reset?
That can do the trick if notifications have suddenly given up the ghost.
Not a stupid question, I should have included that I've tried that as well. Thanks anyhow!
did you install vibra, the tool that allows you to turn on vibrate with a button press?
I didn't. I don't have either email or SMS set to vibrate either. Just the sound notifications. I'm really perplexed by this.
This may be another stupid troubleshoot but most problems are normally overlooking settings
Make sure in Sounds and notifications, in the sound tab that Events, Programs and its subgroup notifications are checked. And then in the notification tab make sure play sound is selected!
And don't forget to make sure system sound[i.e. not on vibrate, silent, and/or volume is raised to an audible level] is up too!
If all else fails, a hard reset should resolve the issue, it could possibly be a missing reg key mistakenly deleted.

I agree, hard reset if all else fails and put you app cabs back on one at a time, see if all is OK then move onto the next.
It colud be a conflict with one or more of them.
That's what I was afraid I'd have to do.

If you do a hard reset and find a problem with any apps please post it back here and edit the first post to include SOLVED.
It could be very useful to all on here.
Good Luck.
Thank you, I certainly will.
At least now I have something to do tonight.
I had same problem..
No sound and no camera working,
I fixed it by installing original rom and radio, I read somewhere it is due to radiio.

My sound and camera work fine. It's just those 2 notifications that aren't working. All my other alerts work, even for the IM+ notification.

Just thought I'd update. I hard reset with the XDA-Live 1.2 again. Before adding anything else, I created my mail account (Not an Outlook account) and then tested notifications on email and SMS. SMS is working perfectly once again. The emails aren't getting any notifications at all, no matter what I set. Strange but I can live with it. At least my SMS is back.

Well you are getting one buzz, (OH Bloody hell, turn that water on!) but its really strange for the other? Have you a non-standard audio file selected for your notification for mail because some media files will not play!

But on the serious note. Yeah I've tried every sound file I have. I've tried no sound and just vibrate. I've tried nothing but the message window. It adds the emails and I can see the HTC today screen add the new mail but nothing else. It's very odd.

Do you have any 3rd party apps on (and soz its late here (UAE) so forgot the previous posts) any rom differences (ie cooked)? cause this is peculiar and sounds like a registry conflict!

Nope, I was sure to test this before adding anything other than the XDA-Live 1.2 ROM. I have no idea what's up with it but I can live with it as long as the SMS is working, which it is.
And I should mention, last week when I had initially added the XDA ROM, it worked after that so it's not a conflict in the ROM.
There is a serious bug with the built in phone app , I was wondering whether any of you are suffering this.
When you dial a number manually and hit the arrow to delete one of the digits, the phone goes berzerk, starts dialing loads of 0pw00's and locks up.
Same happens when scrolling through the contacts on the phone app (not the standard contacts app) and tapping the forward hardkey to change from say a Mobile number to a Home number for the listed contact
Nop just tried it all is good.
Not experienced that problem, but i have experienced another problem in the phone app.
when you select a contact in the phone app, and push either left or right on the scroll wheel to select the next available number in the contact, i.e. business, home, mobile2, etc, it will just keep scrolling until you reset the phone. really annoying if you want to select a number other than the default number for the contact.

Yes Yes! I just tested it and it happens.
The thing is, I managed to break out of the loop.. Not sure how, but I kinda repeatedly pressed all the HW buttons, etc
Now I can't reproduce it.. hmmmm

happens here also but only if i try changing the number with the "go right" button. "go left" works. interesting because it is the third ROM and in all 3 of them i had the same problem.
My problem go so worse that I could not press any hardware buttons in the phone app. Sadly I had to hard reset. Now the problem has disappeared, but I have yet to install any apps onto my device..
I have none of the above problems

Got the same problem on the call history but not all the time
French rom 1.37.406.1
Got another two annoying bugs:
- the clock that show minutes after minutes non stop (1Minute per second)
- a part of screen not updating on the SMS/MMS application
Okay the bug has returned sadly... After I spent hours reinstalling all of my apps.
The problem is not limited to the phone app, it happens when I tap any key on the SIP or press any hardware button - a bunch of text is pasted.
I created a txt document and tapped a button so I could copy all of the crap it pastes,
it is attached
This is driving me nuts and makes the phone unusable. Im certain this is the fault of software rather than hardware. Can anyone help?

To me it seems like one of the 3rd party apps that you installed is causing this. If it was me, after a hard reset I would test it after installing each app to find the guilty one.

Same here. But luckily I don't have to reset the phone. By pressing some buttons randomly I get it out of the loop. But it's annoying all the same! Doesn't happen every time though... that's quite strange. Don't know why it goes wrong, so I can't do anything about it.
i have the same problem!! hope the coming new rom can help!
Could be a third party app, I thought. So curiously I went through my installed apps list. First on the list was remote desktop mobile (the new version with the device mapping feature which doesnt actually work) - So, I uninstalled that and voila, the bug has disappeared.
Bad news is that I really need remote desktop. Perhaps I installed a bad CAB. Anyone have a decent cab that is proven to work?

So, I got this problem that every freakin' night the alarm goes off at 0430 even the alarm is set at 0800. It also goes off at the time specified ( 0800 ) but it also goes off at 0430. What the heck is the problem, is there a hidden alarm on the phone or what?
No, at one point the phone's alarm was set to that time and never shut off properly. Trust me, most mornings I am ready to throw mine across the room in hopes it explodes from all the wrong alarms lol.
Best way to control it I have found is to be sure to turn off the alarm, not just the soft key disable, go into the alarm and switch it from every day to off while that time is still set. That way it "usually" clears out of the memory by time I set it again the next night.
That said mine will still at random go off at times it has not gone off at for weeks. I am wondering if syncing it with the PC will sync the alarm schedual of nothing and clear it out, since rebooting does not work.
There are other third party alarm programs I have heard of but dont remember names or results people have posted about them.
Use the search function

sktools won't let me clear the queue. It says that entries are deleted but they are still there.
Any other advices?
SKTools
hrmmm.... There are some ok documentation write ups on it, not really sure all the problems that cause/correct the alarm problem. It's such a big one, there are a lot of people that have just gone with a different alarm program completely.
A thought, when I first tried SKTools, I didn't actually do it right, then I re-read the directions on the forum post and realized I had not done it correctly. But what has worked for me, is when I go into the notifications queue, and scroll all the way to the bottom, I select EACH entry for clock.exe Then on action I choose Delete Marked. Seems to work until it happens again, due to missed alarm, or whatever else seems to cause it.
Hope that helps...
like that title states notification for text wont sound tried changing the sound nothing all others work tho ringtone for voicemail everything. just cant figure it out.
Just to cover the basics,
Did you do the following:
1) Go to Settings, Sound, Volume and make sure everything is up?
2) Under Settings, Sound and in the Feedback area, make sure that all the appropriate options are selected?
3) Reboot the phone?
4) Use the volume switch on the side to go to completely silent and then push it back up?
Are your mp3 files playing?
Sent from my captivate running firefly!
yep ive done all that stuff mp3 files will play even when im selecting a new tone on the msgs it plays there just wont play when i get a msg. i am using zedge if that helps
the email ringtone that i set for my msg ringtone worked ugh this is pissing me off.
Are you on a custom ROM? I guess it is possible this is a side effect of a bad flash. Might want to try reflashing whatever ROM you are on. Make sure you backup first, but when you restore don't restore system data. Part of that system data could be your problem and you would just be restoring it, thus putting you in an endless loop.
i am on a custom rom continuum v4 but ive been using this one for almost 2 months
If you have root explorer or another file system app, check in your system\media\audio folder. Under the notifications folder, see if you have anything in there. I have had a bad flash wipe my ringtones before and had to download some I wanted. Just a thought
Try this : go to Messaging/menu/settings. The VERY last option will set your sms tone.
well it started working when i did that i noticed it was really low so when it played i turned the volume up and it started working

Thanks this works for me with the same problem. Good thing there's the search bar!
I accidentally selected the phone storage for the location to search for sounds before I changed to settings to always ask and even though I hit cancel at the time I'm stuck with this selection. I made the choice in the Android messages app and tried settings>apps>messages>clear defaults but it didn't change and now I noticed that it's my only choice for other notification sound in other apps too! What am I missing? How do I get it to let me pick the path every time now?
I use Google's messages so I never saw anything that let me choose (also unrooted), but any sounds placed in to notifications folder on the root of the phone and sdcard can be choosen. Just note that it would use the meta tag info, if there are none then it just shows up on list as an entry called 'sound' (possible to have multiple sound entry)

Hmmm... Android message? or the Built in message? Anyway, you could try installing Zedge (ringtones app) and then from within the app try to change the sound. Maybe it will prompt you to reselect the location?

Both apps actually, all notification sounds go to the stick sounds. I can set a sound from Zedge but not to a specific contact or app. I'm looking to get the options back when I click on notification sound in an app.
As a long shot you could try resetting the sound picker app

Well. At least you got it. But for future reference... Maybe look in Settings...Apps... then click on the top right 3 dots.
I found some interesting default apps options.
You can select different ringtones for different contacts. Select a contact you want to change the ringtone for (make sure you've previously downloaded the ringtone you want) and then edit. Scroll down to more then at the bottom of the options you can choose a custom ringtone and message tone.

You're going to need to clear the default for the app first...then redo it....it will ask, Just once...or Always.

Yeah, unfortunately that would be the only way (since you don't remember the app)...that way, when you select...the option should pop up everytime, as long as you select Just Once everytime.
I'm having the same issue but that options to change message tone is not available on the Oreo Beta, hope the include it in the final build.

Possibly. Although the Contacts app is made by Samsung and isn't included in Android stock (as far as I know). So you might just have the most stable version available whilst they tweak it to work with Oreo.
