When is someone going to port sense onto the droid? I just got my droid after a screw up where verizon sent me the eris, and i had to put up with it for 2 weeks. I love sense, but the hardware of the eris was terrible. HTC needs to step up there hardware. I tryed openhome with 2 different themes, one was good, but it forced closed sooooo much it i couldnt use it. I tryed aHome, same problem. Im not sure how safe rooting is, and i really dont want to mess up my phone. What is the best hero rom or theme for the droid? Has any one ported sense ui onto the droid? I mean, i know its possible. I would be willing to root my phone if there are any good roms/themes availible. Also, what are some good roots out there? Ive seen it on so many devices EXCEPT the droid! Im currently running GDE with the hero theme, and it works well, certainly the best ive used, but the only difference is the conversation widget, bar at the bottom, and 7 home screens. Still stuck with all the boring stock android widgets. I want to see sense run on a droid. I want it on MY droid. Thanks in advance.

.......what does this have to do with android themes?
I just thought this was the best place to put it. If it needs to be moved, move it. I didn't see any catagories that it fit in better, and it discusis themes.
I don't know maybe Android Development since you are looking at rooting and booting a new rom on your phone? Just a thought.
sense has been ported, check out the alldroid.org forums, but some vital things such as battery do not work (it must be plugged in)
this might have been fixed tho... idk check it out.
u might have to click on a dev's username in that forum, try eugene373.

it's not a theme. it's a complete rom. which is not a theme. which would mean it does not belong in the themes section. which this is.

Panda Home also has got got reviews on the Droid versus Open Home. I haven't looked into what would be needed to change to theme the Music and Power widgets for their themes yet, thats the only thing they dont import from the Open Home themes.
Hey guys, I was looking through the nexus forum and found a post for Launcher Pro. It's available in the market for free and it's super fast. Check it out! The swiping is ridiculous and it works on the G1 MT3G
www.launcherpro.com
hmmm, just installed it and it is fast. Not nearly as many options as ADW but it sure is fast. Have setup all my screens again but will give it a try for a while to see how it fairs.
Wohoo...
Multitouch pinch to preview and the little bumps almost make the sense experience complete
This is crazy smooth! My only complaint is that it FC's when I try to pick a wallpaper from it. And cyanogen says that Launcher2 is not stable for our phones, but this is 17 times better. Anyone know the adb code to make it stay in memory? I'm not having any issues with it but I still like to have it in memory=p
Awesome stuff!
Requesting: scrollbar in the drawer; apps assigning for / editing for the shortcuts.
HOLY CRAP this app works flawlessly on my cm5t5 g1.
I would like for there to be more options though.
Great job so far mang, keep up the great work!!
Very very nice indeed!
Shame that I can't edit the icons using Bettercut and/or restore a previous Home-screen arrangement using MyBackUpPro. Without these things I will have to use ADW's Launcher for now. Which is not a punishment by itself
[Edit] With the "new" version (the one with the appdrawer handler still visible when you open the drawer) this IS possible (editting using BetterCut), nice job!
What does it actually do for a CM5.0.7t5 phone? Has Cyanogen weighed in on this?
hi there!
awesome launcher, smooth as hell.
But i wonder if theres an option to let in rest in memory.
I experience some wait time when im getting out of apps, so that the homescreen has to rebuild itself. with the default cm5t5 launcher theres the option in spareparts that makes it stay in memory so it was there very fast after quitting apps.
cheers
Using this launcher with cm5.0.7 test5 and its fantastic. Im also running the overclock kernel at 652 and its smooth!
Question though, wouldn't the spare parts option to keep launcher in memory apply to whatever launcher you are using?
Weird, it does not show up in the market for me...
I am using htcclays's csdi. I know that rom was from overseas originally... Does it mess up the market too?

its just a launcher. uninstall and install it like a normal app. its not some system hack, i duno why some of you are worried about it. dont even need to nandroid, it doesnt mess up any system stuff. doesnt even require root access. it's a pretty smooth launcher. adw is trying to rework his to make it smooth as well.

yes it works, i set LauncherPro as default launcher when asked when phone booted, then i used SpareParts option to leave launcher in memory and it worked. Now when i close apps im instantly in my homescreen without having to reload it every time. works like a charm =)

I don't think so, otherwise people with sense roms could push spare parts into their roms and make the option work. I do know that there is a thread on doing just that in general, but I'm too lazy to search now=p
so im guessin' the LauncherPro isn't for 1.6 fones, like the G1?
^ yeap, see my post above.
Been using it since yesterday on G1/CM5.0.7t5 and it's mighty fast.
Excellent work!
A 5 column launcher would be nice though, if it doesn't affect performance...

With my limited understanding of the flashing process and all of this, I don't take risks. Besides, no one on here is going to be accountable for bad advice given and replace the phone there crappy advice bricked. If you can't give advice without a disclaimer, then shut up about me asking questions like this.

Do i want sense? Yes, Its great! Touchwiz is not as refined.
Sense features i miss
The great Audio player, Better than power amp (In my opinion)
Fantastic lockscreen (customizable)
Great People, weather and calendar widgets
Perfect Dialpad
Well designed SMS and email client
And all the other sense themed widgets.
I know i lot of these features can be added with apps from the market, But none i have found so far have the Tidy uniform look of sense. Parts of touchwiz look like they have been made by a colour blind monkey! Also one of my biggest gripes with touchwiz is the lockscreen (poor animation, lack of customization and sometimes unresponsive) If i try to use a different lockscreen, NoLED stops working, which i like because the lack of a physical notification LED.
So far i have tried-
SPB shell 3D - expensive, and still needs some work for are device, but looks cool. More looks over substance
Launcher Pro - Its OK, just basic
Go laucher, Go Locker, Go Contacts - Good attempt, just not as refined and not optimized for the screen resolution of the note
The note, hardware wise, is the best Phone (yes it is a phone) I have owned. Personally i feel touchwiz needs some work.
Now others may love touhwiz, So i do not want this thread to turn into a fanboi thread of either way! This is just my opinion, its not intended to irritate anybody.
For one, i would love to see a sense rom for such great hardware!
Overall i like the note, and with any luck ICS will null my gripes.
Sorry to OP if i have hijacked this thread, Just sparked all my (common) sense thoughts off at once
Also best place for questions is the Q&A section.
Take it easy

For me TouchWiz and Sense is same ****. Go Launcher is normal. Holo is the best launcher I ever use. I hope samsung will not forget or ignore about this.
It was hard to get used to touchwiz after Htv Sense for first few days. I tried to find similar widgets to make it more look and function like htc sense. Then as more I get used to touchwiz the less I hated it. If I had a choice I would still prefer htc sense as already mentioned it is pretty well designed graphically and functionally out of the box. But I discover some touchwiz features missing in htc sense too. For instance uninstalling apps right from the app drawer is awesome just as practical as uninstalling on iphone. Samsung touchwiz seems to have it all as separate widgets and os wise but they are not as a whole package in terms of visual integrity and not as functional as sense considering each app separately. Some of features like remote tracking is not even in default rom unless you add them urself later which takes some research to even find out it's even possible. HTC sense serves it all as a whole package , even the navigating software you can purchase it right from the htc location widget and it is adapted to rest of widgets. Contact integration from different accounts like facebook, google, twitter etc is merged automatically on htc sense by choice which is missing on touchwiz. You have to add your htcsense user id and pass only once on Sense and it is recognized automatically on related apps like "htc likes" but on touchwiz you have to add your samsung account each time again and again for apps like "samsung apps" etc... Considering outstanding hardware features of Gnote I have no intension to go back to htc just for sense as none of their devices are even close to gnote recently but I would definitely like to see samsung engineers put more effort on improving touchwiz in terms of compatible graphic design, integrated all-in features , user friendly ui to make it more competitive against htc sense which seems to be only superiority of htc devices still left.

Im surprised it took 4 months for this kind of thread to pop up. I will never understand the ram hogging hype. It reminds me of iphone users bragging about a million apps so they can swipe the screen from left to right doing nothing.
But all in all we are using android which gives us plenty of options. If a clone of sense doesnt work. Theres always that option of making it yourself.
I swore launcher pro widgets were a exact replica of htc sense. Matched up with a theme and it was good to go. Plus that customizable widget app that did more things then htc lockscreen. But im guessing this isnt good enough.
Sense used to be great and now it's just too bloated
Thanks for the responses. I guess its each to here own. Now i have been assigned to this forum, i shall put this thread in its correct place.
Thread Moved To Q&A
sense just has the best dialer avaible. the touchwiz dialer just doesnt find if i search for "uiop" and there is clearly a "qwertz uiop" in the contacts. sense dialer finds that.
aldo the touchwiz keyboard is odd... long press makes caps lock chars... sense gives you signs like "+ -*& %". i solved that with swiftkey x... but for the dialer theres no replacement right now. ex dialer is the closest but it needs 10 seconds or more to load the call log. thats not acceptable.
i like that the phone features of a phone are excelent, not just satisfiyng.
Why are there two of the exact same thread..?
From the exact same person..
Sense is an abomination, why would you want to buy the fastest phone available just to bog it down with bloatware, reducing it to a level of performance of a 1GHz single-core? But, to each his own - sadly, no way to make a Sense rom for a non-HTC device, if only for legality reasons. Sense is, at least partly, proprietary code.
Sense is the best out of the box android UI. Period.
I've just recently got my Galaxy Note and I'll admit I do miss the sense from my HTC Desire HD. Personally, it seems more intuitive when it comes to shortcuts, integration and it is visually appealing. However, I know it slows down the phone as it did that to my HTC Desire HD, especially when I updated to the latest sense. It's very laggy and the amount of animations are completely unnecessary. I don't need an animation of the page swivelling onto the screen when unlocking the phone. I'll miss the ease of access to certain things, but I want to get use to touchwiz.
There is an option to get Sense 3.0 or 3.5

So if you want Sense, HD2 is your perfect choice.
Its hardly possible to port Sense to Note or other non-HTC devices.

I've been a LauncherPro user for many years now, and as such I've stuck with it on my Note. However, due to the "laggy" app-drawer opening animation, I've had to disable that completely (so that the drawer opens immediately).
I believe that pretty much ALL third-party launchers suffer from stuttering in some way or another. Does anyone actually know WHY this is the case on the Note? Its not ROM specific.
The alternative is to just use TouchWiz, which I am 100% keen on doing, except for ONE little problem. 90% of Android widgets are 4 columns wide, and there is no way to resize widgets with TouchWiz.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions? I get the feeling that most people stick with TouchWiz, so I'd love to know what you do about the 4 column limitation.

No problem
I have tried most of the available launchers. The one i am most happy with at the moment is spb shell 3d, its not cheap. But when in tablet mode, looks great on the note. The widgets really make use of the screen resolution.
The only issue is there is no ability to alter the row/column count. Which in tablet mode has a count of 8. Which is a little high for the screen size of the note.
I have emailed the Developers of spb shell 3d and they have told me a update will be available soon.
Just my opinion
Thanks. I wish there was a way to test SPB before buying.

There is, but not one that I could ever recommend
I admit I tried it and found it very wanting. I only did it for the trial, because the cost was so high. I am glad I did, as I found it very wanting on my device. Others seem faster to me.
I use ssLancher. It has a very different approach, and everything is customisable. I also use a separate app launcher and Folder Organiser, leaving me 'free' from the app organisation that most launchers pin on you. That allows me to play with more with less effort.
go launcher is good because you can use ICS theme.
But this stupid launcher removes ICS animation ! (returns Gingerbread stock)
I hope new update (4.0) will bring for us more then just a nice shell.

No matter what Kernel/ROM I use, every single launcher lags noticeably. I never had this problem with my previous phones (Atrix, Defy+, SGS2). And yes, I'm and advanced user so I know how to optimize the OS.
I just stuck to ADW EX, selecting the Fast interface and setting drawing cache to low quality. It lags but it's way less than Launcher Pro, GO and SS Launcher.
Hope this gets fixed on ICS.

I use ADW EX, and it's pretty decent!
I was thinking about this. If we choose to use a custom launcher, we will likely lose blinkfeed, right? I've got a dozen or so Apex tricks that I have come to rely on. I wonder how this will work??
I know in the past when i used a One X using a custom launcher pretty much removed all the Sense apps so I could see that happening again this time
i must be one of the only people looking forward to blinkfeed!
i almost always had a sports news widget on my homescreen (though not the main one to be fair) and for a large amount of time twitter and facebook too - to have all of that on a dedicated screen (not even a widget) should be really great for me.

My wife is probably going to love it. I would prefer to be able to move it to off center. I'm not totally thrilled with any FB or Twitter (-Caster is my favorite on both) widget, but I use them for feeds as well. I can see liking it, providing it's fairly customizable.

I'm going to give it a go. I only use 3 homescreens currently anyway and my default one if very sparse with only 4 apps. The idea of blink feed seems good, as long as it can sync with all the stuff I look at on currents I will be pretty happy.
Still no word on the menu button for legacy apps though.
Yes, using a custom launcher will mean you'll lose blinkfeed.
The only way around that will be to wait until someone has made blinkfeed into a separate flashable zip. At that point, you'll be able to set up your custom launcher as you'd like and then I guess you'd just be able to flash blinkfeed to have the functionality of both.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.
HTC Widgets only work on stock launcher, I don't see why Blinkfeed would be any different.
M.
Far as I can tell blink feed is another screen on sense. No sense=no blink. Personally I hope a dev can get rid of it. I don't need a news thing and I don't use Facebook or twitter so it seems kinda useless. Id like to see a messaging panel on it with a quick reply like on the Ubuntu touch where its in the notification.

I am looking forward to trying out blinkfeed as it now follows holo guidelines and they have dropped the horrid 3d look for a much more modern flat look and if I don't like it I will put on a custom launcher.
Does anyone know if you can move the blinkfeed to another home screen as it would in my opinion be much nicer in the middle screen so you can swipe left or right for widgets/apps
It is one of the things I like too. But I also like being able to turn off icon labels, create my on gestures, etc. in Apex. Seems like it might be kind of like switching to an iphone -- if you want blinkfeed, you lose ability to customize.
Meanwhile, I'm sittin' on my hands until I see a few audio reviews.

Hi. I pre-ordered and already have my hands on a shiny new HTC One, and BlinkFeed was not one of the reasons I bought it. One of the first things I did after getting the phone was installing Apex Launcher. I use its gestures too and I like the customizability it offers. Thankfully for me, BlinkFeed indeed goes away with a custom launcher
