I tried searching in this forum but I have not been able to find any results.
Has anyone been able to come up with a method of push notification that does not require SMS usage?
Notifying you when what occurs?
Looking at developing a robust application but notifying you of accidents near you. More or less it will be a server event. Even a push notification that tells the client to 'poll now' but I don't want to have to use SMS to avoid taking from the user's pool.

Hey...
I asked this question a while back in the PPC6700 forums when I had that device on WM5...never found an answer. I'm hoping something has changed in that time frame.
I want to be able to have audible alerts for incoming e-mail, but ONLY from specific senders. Using SMS is not an option.
So, for instance if I get an email from [email protected] it will ring an alarm (at 3am and wake me up) but if is an e-mail from anyone else it will stay silent.
Any way to do this, even if I have to purchase an additonal application?
thx!
I realize that its name, Photo Contacts Pro, is a bit misleading, but this is a very powerful/flexible program that will do exactly what you're looking for. Take a look at its incarnations at the vendor's website and decide for yourself -- there's alot there to read:
http://xxx.pocketx.com
Thanks Mark,
Are you 100% sure that this application can do what I ask?
I looked on their website and their features list that you can assign distinctive Ring and SMS tones to different contacts. It doesn't mention anything about e-mail.
I would plan on using pocket outlook with push mail from an Exchange server...so I really think it would be the function of the mail client to differentiate one incoming e-mail from another. Maybe there is a more feature rich e-mail client that has this functionality?
If you have actually done what I have asked (distinctive alerts to specific EMAIL addresses), then I will download the demo and see what I can do...
thanks again!

Hate to disappoint but it will not do that. This software currently operates on incoming caller id (sms has that also) not email address. I did suggest the use of email to them in addition to sms so they may someday do some work on it but not now.
Although I don't currently know of anything that will do what you want (which doesn't mean it isn't available) you MAY be able to get around the limitation.
I would try having the exchange server fire out a short note or even a forward of the email to your phone's sms address. They all have the ability to get the email as sms albeit it would be chopped to 160 chars. Now, if you can identify the source of the incoming sms via caller id you can indeed use photocontacts by creating a special profile with silence being the default for all contacts except the exchange server forwards. This way the incoming sms will set off the alarm which will tell you to check your email.
Hey, better than nothing, no?
eh..yeah thanks NY... I was afraid of that answer.
What we did for our alerting system previously was have the alerts sent to the phone mail/SMS address and all other e-mails to our normal exchange. This way we would turn on SMS alerts and turn off e-mail. It does work, but not the ideal solution. It would be so simple to have this functionlity in pocket Outlook as a "rule" too bad they haven't gotten there yet!
thanks
having that kind of selection hasn't gotten that far yet, don't forget this is a pocket pc with phone capabilities

I'm aware of a couple of programs that will alert based on email sender, subject, etc. The first is Message Alerts, and the second is Watchflag. I've never used Watchflags before, but it looks pretty good. I used Message Alerts back when I had a RIM Blackberry. It worked perfectly.
Try also phoneAlarm V2.0 not 1.66 from http://www.pocketmax.net
This is a new option in V2.0
Beautiful guys thanks! All 3 look like they will do what i want (from description) I will try them out.
thanks again!
bengalih, thanks for the link. Question for you, did you ever try one of these programs? I guess my request is a little different than yours was in that I am not trying to notify by email address but simply by email account. So one notification for my Yahoo, another for my daughters and yet another for work. If one of these apps can accomplish this, then that would be great. Thanks again.
Email notification
This is only mildly related, but I want my new email notification to show the sender and/or subject line and not just "You have ## new email messages..."
I can't find any notification settings that would adjust this. Any suggestions?
Call_SMS Blocker. I found this program the other day and I just wanted to share it with everyone. This app is amazing! I searched everywhere to find something like this. With this software you can COMPLETELY block both calls and sms. Also it will send an automatic sms on your behalf when your busy. Your probably saying, yeah well that new PowerSMS program can do auto sms replies. Well did I mention that this app not only sends auto sms replies to callers but also to friends who TEXT YOU!! I think I found only like 1 other app that could do that and it wasnt nearly as good as this one. Most other ones out there either only allow you to select "known numbers" or "unkown numbers" to reply to. Well with Call_SMS Blocker, you can totally customize the lists of people that will receive your auto reply. You can even make custom messages for each individual person instead of just 1 master message like many other apps.
The only bad things about this software though is that it does cost money and it is a little confusing on how to set it up. But once you figure this thing out it is very powerful and by far the best call blocker sms blocker and sms auto responder out there!
If anyone decides to get this app I would be more than happy to help you out with getting it up and running and figuring out the settings to do what you want it to do.
This was just one of the best apps I have found in awhile and I just wanted to let others know about it. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope this program can come in handy for others like it did me.
have you tried this on WM6? link says WM5
Yes it will work on WM6. I am using it on my stock Tilt WM6 pro and it works perfectly. See, under the Download/Buy section. It says its available for WM5/WM6.x
This looks brilliant - purchased
Right, purchased this yesterday and it's awesome.
I have an annoying issue with an alarm system (secom) at my workplace, and being a keyholder, I really can't be chewed with middle-of-the-night (false) callouts. Tried to use another app to set unknown numbers to use a silent ringtone, but that didn't help in the middle of the night because of the ensuing answerphone notification.
I don't like the thought of turning my phone off, or putting onto silent in case of real emergencies from people I care about D).
Anyhoo....
.. this app is perfect. Simulates an immediate 'hangup' to unknown numbers, effectively (a) stopping you hearing them call and (b) disallowing them the ability to leave an answerphone message.

I've found a bug in the S Planner app. If you add participants to a meeting, and say you don't want to send them an e-mail, the app sends it anyway.
Does anyone know how to fix this, or know where I can report this to Samsung?
On a somewhat similar note (pun intended ) , if you get a meeting request, when you want to accept, you don't get the option to not send the answer (unlike in outlook). As I'm not able to sync with my client's system I always forward all things related to meeting requests to my own company's email adress. I need to accept them in order to get them noted in my agenda on the note, but I don't want that email adress to send the answer back. Any solutions?
P.S. No intention to hijack this thread, but it looks like a similar topic (sort of)
I am pulling my hair out on this. HOW do you respond to meeting requests in S Planner?
By clicking ok in the request.
Never mind, I figured it out. Need to have an exchange server, not Google apps.
Is there an app for windows phone that actually sends the scheduled texts automatically? I've searched for a while and noticed some old windows mobile apps that do, while the winphone ones only remind you to send those sms.
Regards

EDIT:
Came across this piece of news "OnTime SMSer App is used to send SMS at the scheduled Date and Time.
NOTE: Windows Phone does not allow you to send sms "directly" or "silently" from app. Hence on scheduled Date and Time a reminder would pop up giving the user the option to send the message or not."
Is this really the case here? the OS is preventing the automatic sms sending?

Yep. At least there's no public API allowing sending of SMS, OEMs might be able to do it but no one did so far. The only thing apps can do is open a new compose message window with a recipient and text, you still have to click send manually.

Thanks awfully
Yeah. The APIs exist (obviously) but they're private, and they require private app capabilities to use. Microsoft wouldn't allow third-party apps to use those capabilities even if they could access the relevant APIs.
I've thought about writing a homebrew app to try messing with SMS just for fun, but there's so many more promising avenues of hacking available that I'm not likely to have the time to do that for a good while unless there's some urgent reason why it's needed.
Hi everybody.
I'm trying to use WhatsTasker plugin to automate my Whatsapp messages: Tasker Schedule Whatsapp message with Whatstasker Plugin - YouTube
I know this is very old plugin, but it still works fine while sending messages to individual contacts. However, I have issues with sending messages to groups. I know we need contact ID and I obtained it from mgstore.db file. Individual contacts get mesasges sent with WhatsTasker just fine. But when Im sending messages to groups, I can see in my Whatsapp that the message was sent, but other group members are never getting it. Killing Whatsapp and relaunching it changes nothing. I wonder if anybody of you succeed in making it work? Or maybe you know any other way to send automated messages directly to groups?
Ill add Id like to do it with screen locked and turned off, of course with root access.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT:
I've found another solution with querying Whatsapp database directly (link at the bottom), but I can't get it work...
Although the OP's task doesnt work with groups, it seems that other user successfully updated it to support groups as well. Anyway, in my case the task is always end with Error 127 when running shell action, regardless if I try to send message to an individual contact or a group. I'm not sure if I filled everything as it should be... I'm not that skillful.
Could somebody try and tell me if it's working for you? Thanks in advance
