Hi Everyone,
New here and can't wait to try out my first Rom flash. I just had a question though. I was following the instructions in the first post about recommending i backup my current rom.
I tried to follow the instructions in this video
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497511
In the video it said i had to download 3 files. The third one being called ruu_signed. However, when i tried to download it, it said the download limit had been exceeded. Is there any place else to download it? Also, i have a US version phone, the ruu_signed available there is a UK version. Does that matter?
thanks everyone, this has been driving me nuts.
I tried to do a search for the ruu_signed file using the search but didn't have any luck.

Today is the day, when i was ready to take the plunge into updating my rom to Evaluation 2. I wanted to upgrade my stock rom and see how my HTC would be like.
Now after some research, i found the installation package specifically for VIVA and instruction were quite simple. i.e. copy paste the .nbh file into the installation package folder and click on the update utility. (I downloaded the installation package 7. zip for this )
Well i thought it would be as simple as people have wrote but things didn't go out as planned. As soon as i did the above process and clicked the update utility. My phone started to go into the bootloader mode i could see the progress bar till 3% update... Than suddenly the phone LCD would switch off and the update utility informed me the the rom is corrupted... I thought i might have had the bad rom.. Let me download some thing else.. I downloaded 6.5 Rom from other source still the same issue.. Rom corrupted...
Am i doing something wrong.. Please help.
Did you install Hard-SPL? This little software unlocks your device to install custom ROMs.
Find more info, and download instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446446
After you install this, try to install your ROM and it should work well.
Good luck..

Thanks for the advice... I did that, i am now proud user of Evolution 2. Thanks for the advice
Due to many lags and problems with last stock rom from samfirmware I finally choose to mount a custom rom, as I have always done with all my devices in have taken a lot of informations before proceding so I have some questions to do:
what is the best rom for my tablet? ( I am an advanced user)
how can I bypass my bootloader block?
How can I install without bricking?
I have tried to install overcome kernel following standard procedure but my table was blocking in a new download mode image, and it didn't start. I solved flashing new stock rom, very indecent and lagging
thank for responses to everybody
with overcome you can follow the guide i think you might be making the mistake i made
read the guides well
before starting
1 root your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367
2 how to unlock there is a sticky post here dont flash but if you do there is an apk file you have to run first on the stock rom to unlock (need step 1 to execute this)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071
read this guide and the steps below first before proceding
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11713685
3 copy the zip rom file to your internal SD not external
4 when you flash the kernel it boots into samsung screen wait it sais converting
then it estimates miutes then it finishes (i followd the guide and thought it was stuck on that screen before it was done converting to the new format
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932082
now proceed with the setps from but keep step 3 and 4 in mind

GL!
I got my Galaxy Tab about a week ago and flashed Overcome right after. Highly recommended!
Follow the first post.
As far as recommending a Rom/Kernel. The Overcome Kernel and Rom are being developed and updated almost weekly. It's very stable and quite powerful.
I have done nr. 1st and 2nd steps and I'm going to make a 3rd. Step but I have another question in link you have posted there are old overcome kernel and rom, which I must download? The procedure is the same?
procedure is the same simply flash/install latest version.
How about if I want to use SMS after flashing? It's working on stock rom right now, do I need to do anything special when flashing Overcome?
i have done all steps, now i'll try this kernel and rom....thanks a lot to everybody!!

on euro tab all functionality works,
wifi
3g
gps
call
sms
accelerometer
light sensor
did not try using video call / mms
dose not work for me
vpn with tun.ko vpnc
what you sometimes need to do after flashing is to set up the acces points for some things like 3g connection you can usualy go to your providers homepage and have them send an sms to you with correct settings or fill in manualy
So no need to flash a modem or something, right? Thanks
Second that! I just installed Overcome 1.4.2 (replaces both the kernel and ROM) and everything is working dandy. Waiting to test it under day-to-day usage on weekdays next week, but for now it's been pretty stable and lag-free.
Did hit a road block while flashing yesterday (hit the same 'stuck at Samsung screen' issue others have faced), but there main ROM thread and another that it pointed to had step by step guides to everything. From flashing the kernel to troubleshooting problems. I just got into Android last month and this is my first flash.
Did find that the battery temperature on Overcome seems to be higher on average than when I had stock Euro... Am not overclocking though. Will continue to monitor this one.
no the modem dose not get replaced
you can chouse to go for a newer modem if you wish
Hi there, im new to this forum and Im kind of a novice to flashing and rooting.
Firstly, my device is a Samsung Galaxy Tab Sprint version.
Secondly, when I bought this tab, I got fed up of the stock software so I decided to flash the rom. I researched allot on how to do this. Then I came across a custom rom called Modaco and flashed my galaxy tab using Clockwork Recovery.
Thirdly, I started to experience a particular problem - the AutoRotation broke. Whenever I rotated my tab portrait in a way that the homescreen, back buttons etc are in the normal position, the screen itself will be upside down making it difficult for me use the tablet conveniently.
Next, I started to develop another problem, i wasn't able to boot into recovery mode so i came accross another method to remove the modaco custom rom to install the stock rom. I used ODIN and download mode. This worked but the whole autorotation situation still persisted. I downloaded a file that would attemp fixing the autorotation problem but didnt work so I tried booting into recovery mode using ADB recovery and Clockwork Recovery but whenever it attempts to get there, it then shows me the samsung logo and remains frozen.
Lastly, I have come to a conclusion that I dont want to be using custom roms and I think it has to do with the Kernal. I want my tablet to be as I just bought it, untouched, not flashed etc.
If anyone can provide me with a solution, then I will be extremely greatful. Thanks
Seriously move this to the QUESTION THREADS. You will get more help there.

Hey I've been here already but that SW Update doesnt work. It tells me "Cannot open Binary file" can you tell me why?
See post #34 in that thread posted by cdguider.
download the : New File With Odin, Sprint_P100_Samsung_GALAXY_Tab_USB_Drivers, Installation Instructions
read and follow the .txt file that is included step by step and it will work....
I used it but the first time I was in a hurry and did not read the install txt, didn't work. I opened the imstructions and went step by step the next time and it worked no problems..
hope it works out for you.
I just updated my device to the last version 2.3.3 gingerbread.
Everything was working good until I tried to make a call.
I have full service signal, but the problem is that I cannot hear anything and from the other side cannot hear me too.
however, is not a hardware problem, because I can make calls using Skype or any other similar app without problems.
my device is in S-Off and I used ClockworkMod Recovery (downloaded from another thread here) to Install the Rom.
first, I downloaded the Rom from a chinese website and then I tried with another one (non chinese)
but...both with the same problem, So I guess is not a ROM problem.
I'm trying to update from a 2.2.1 version also downloaded from a chinese website (I bought my cellphone in China).
I have tried with some RUUs from this forum, but I'm also having the problem 170 & 171 usb conexion.
I tried to explain everything full detailed. Hope someone could help me!
(I was looking for answers in other threads but with no success)
Thanks.
Hi there,
I had the same problem as you only a few weeks ago after installing a custom rom as well going from froyo to gingerbread.
The problem lies with the radio. You will need to upgrade your radio version. In doing so you will get sound from voice calls back.
Here is the thread I followed that will show you how. At the bottom of the first post you will have the list of radio versions as well as with which RUU it should go with.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129014
Hope it works for you, good luck!

Thanks for your quick response!, I will check right now!.
Tell you later!
---------- Post added at 09:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:08 PM ----------
can you tell me which Rom and Radio you used please?. and Did you use some .exe Ruu?.
Thanks!
I am using CyanogenMod Nightly builds, which are based on Android 2.3.5 now. My radio is 20.2810.30.085AU_3805.06.03.16 (last hyperlink from the list) and everything runs well.
No I didn't use a .exe RUU
I need to bother you again!. is this version size just 78Mb?. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015532)
others Rom I downloaded was all above 200 Mb.
If it's like the ones on the official site, it is probably zipped (explaining the smaller size, +/- 80mb).
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=vivo
Thank you very much System92, I just Installed the same Rom and Radio as you did and It worked perfectly!. (by the way, It's a great Rom with a fantasctic interface!)
Thanks Again!
Your welcome Bastian_n, I'm glad you got everything working!
CM7 is basically what stock Android looks like without Sense UI. Although with some tweaking you'll find that you can still customize it to your liking!
Have fun!
one last question. I cannot find the market in this version? Should I do something more? maybe patch it, or Install it as an upgrade?

Yes with the CM 7 Rom you will have to install the Google Apps separately.
Google apps may not have been included in the rom's installation. All you will have to do is download the Google Apps from HERE. Go to the very bottom of the page and click on "Download" for CyanogenMod 7.
Next, follow these instructions:
Once booted you might find some apps are missing, namely the Android Market, Gmail, etc. If this has happened, you will need to flash the Google Apps pack. To flash, copy the Google Apps to the root of the SD card, boot into the custom recovery image, and flash the Google Apps package like you flash any other ROM (do not wipe data after flashing the Google Apps package). Dear XDA community,
Currently I have a Huawei P9 with Magic Rainbow 3 ROM installed. I am really unhappy with it since my phone has slowed down and my battery is draining too fast (20% or more in 1 hour while just listening to Spotify).
I relise that I will lose root and all my files, but I wish to revert back to fresh official Huawei version of Android as if it came out of the box.
My problem is that I tried to do that a while back (and when I failed I had to download the Magic Rainbow 3 ROM) but every time I installed the official version, my phone would be missing all the Huawei apps, the camera app and bluetooth wouldn't turn on and just felt like a crippled version of Android.
If anyone would be willing to guide me through the process of reverting I would be really grateful.

There are clean and easy instructiobs (and in the Magic Rainbow thread itself!) how to properly flash back to stock ROM
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75787156&postcount=3
However, your problem should not be in the Magic Rainbow (an excellent ROM, saving the battery) but in the latest Google Play Services update, see in this thread (not just this post but alao tge earlier ones)

Besides, there is a newer MR v4 - see the thread behind the first link. Installation instructions are in its post #1

Thank you for your reply. I'm puzzled as to which firmware I should use. I can only see I'm EVA-L09 and on MagicRainbow. I also don't remember on which firmware I was before going to a custom ROM. Is there any help for me?
I'm very sorry for bothering, but I'm a noob and shouldn't have messed with the phone.

Yes, you need to know which stock ROM cust and build you had before, to flash the same by HWOTA.
I think I saw instructions about a hidden file you can read it from, you need root to access the file (MR is prerooted), but I don't remember where it was - you can ask in MR thread
Btw, you can also upgrade from MR v3 to v4

I guess my best bet would be upgrading to MRv4 and hope it changed enough so my battery and performance get better (maybe a factory reset will also help). Also, I've tried searching for MRv4 on XDA forums, but can't seem to find the thread. Could you please link me to the site with instructions for upgrading to MRv4?

One last question. I just want to inform You that I have succesfully reverted back to official firmware. But it now says I have an update b399 and when I download it and try to install it I get the error: "Software install failed. Failed to apply the differential update file. Please download a package in erecovery mode." But even when I try to download in eRecovery I get the error that it can't download the package.

You can again use HWOTA and upgrade to b399 and after that even to b502
Of course, for HWOTA you will have to install TWRP again (and unlock Bootloader if it was locked now)
---
You have 'reverted' to b394 but that probably wasn't the proper build you had before installing MR v3....
You can do Settings, Advabced Settings, Backup and Reset, Factory reset with internal memory (it can be also Factory reset with Internal memory from eRecovery).
Then, when you receive notification for OTA b399, find in that OTA updating screen (I don't know now how exactly it looks because Iam on MR v4 but I was doing that previously) the option to download and OTA upgrade with Full package, not with default Differential package
