I have tried backup for root and I've tried using adb to pull data and just leave it on my computer and while it all works I notice it's absolutely eats up the memory.
if I had 89mb free on a fresh install and then configure everything like I want with about 30 apps it still says something like 83mb or 81mb
and then if I were to wipe then reflash and then either use backup for root to push my data back it goes down to 62mb and if I use ADB to push the data back it goes down to 60mb.
Anyone else having this issue?
(I wouldn't care but I hate having to type in my email addresses, my alarms, and my dictionary all over again every time I flash a new ROM which is daily)

Hi, I've been using Backup for Root Users constantly as I have been flashing once, maybe twice a day between the new Hero ROMs popping up everywhere. I'm trying to use Backup for Root Users to backup/restoring my data to make the transition easier. However, I've found that sometimes the application doesn't backup whatever I tell it to back up.
For instance, I'll click the button to back up apps2sd - system and it will say found under sdcard/Backup Root. But if I navigate to that folder, it will be blank, or sometimes the folder isn't even there. So, I decide to uninstall the application/reinstall to see if that could fix it. Sometimes it will fix it, but sometimes it will only allow me to backup one more item before the same problem arises.
Sometimes, I'm able to completely backup everything and I make sure to check that they are indeed on the sdcard. After re-flashing a new ROM, I go to restore my data and after I click restore, nothing changes. All my application settings are the same, or my sms doesn't show up, or my APNs are all missing, whatever. Most of the time at least one of the restores will work.
So, my question is whether anyone else has this problem and knows how to fix it? Pretty please, I want to flash ROMs, but its a hassle to constantly have to re-enter APN information or to lose all my SMS, etc.
Thanks
EDIT: I usually go in through ASTRO to delete all the previous backups from the folder to make sure that it doesn't have problems with that, but I still have the same problem...
So I dropped my G1 yesterday and now I am getting some really weird behavior. I can make/receive calls, send texts, read email, etc...but I cannot access ANY of my apps. After the drop it would dismount the SD card. I got that handled, but now ANY 3rd party app that has permission to access the internet will FC when I try to use it. I did a wipe and reflash this morning and I am still having problems. Someone who knows that the hell is going on, please help.
I took a logcat of me trying to use my FB app and the errors that it kicked back.
Did a FULL reflash of everything and problem went away. Dev's please close thread.
Update you recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669&highlight=recovery (or manuall install BART / Switchrom) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562292&highlight=BART
Backup your rom.
"bart -s romname"
That will backup your rom and all apps etc...
Wipe, clear ext partition and system stuff (The recovery linked above has options for wiping all these in the menu)
Then flash a base rom (something like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456) and dont install any of the facebook (and other) junk.
See if that shakes the problem, if it does not then atleast you will have a logcat without all the crap and it will be easier to read.
Hi,
I like testing new ROMS, but there is something annoying, that maybe can be solved.
Every time I wipe, phone data is erased (that's the logical behaviour) and I have to reinstall all my applications (I do it with android commander which is pretty fast), but the problem is I have to reconfigure all the settings, that takes me a lot of time.
Do you know if there is any way to backup / restore configuration for the apps ? I tried TitaniumBackup, whith the save data option, but does not work.
Thnks!!
Backup the contents of the /data/data directory (EVERY FOLDER). Then, when you restore it, it is important to set the correct priviledges (chmod 755 -R *). I think this should be it
ok, thanks a lot!!!! I will try it when a new ROM comes out
Titanium Backup is FC-ing in the middle of its restore progress, something is wrong - app data is not restored . Tried this on CoolBits 1.1 ROM.
Hi guys!
I'm running Doc_Kalpik's V7.5 and I had a bad run in while trying to manually install MiniSquadron which I paid for yet have been getting download unsuccessful errors no matter what I do! But that's another story...
After I installed it, I got a force close...then I got force closes everywhere else so I decided to reboot. And I discover that once I get to the boot animation portion, I get several vibrations (the same as the force close vibration pattern) at this point and eventually the screen turns black while still doing the vibration thing..I press the home button and the backlight keys just light up nothing else. So I go into recovery to attempt to fix.
I decided to reflash the ROM via CWM so I disabled my lagfix first, then did a reboot into recovery. From there I chose to backup and restore and after all that I still run into the same problem at the boot animation.
I try to manually backup via CWM and then factory reset then restore via CWM and there I run into an error saying that no .android_secure blah was not found so it skips the restore of that. I again run into the same probem at boot.
I try to do an advance restore to just restore my data. Still the same error, and the same problem at boot.
I am only able to boot with no issues after a factory reset with no restore meaning all data is lost...So I was wondering is there any way to just restore some parts from the nandroid backup like messages and such...I would assume that the problem is with my apps that had been on sd...which were actually none at all except the manual installation of MiniSquadron I guess. I don't care for the data of the other apps, I just need my messages. I did have a titanium backup but it isn't very recent since I did not expect this problem to occur.
Any help is much appreciated!
I dont have specific information on restoration of messages because I have not yet looked into it - but I was able to recover a few files from a nandroid backup using unyaffs which extracts the content of the nandroid img files. Maybe you can extract the sms file ( /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db) from data.img and push it using adb shell.
In future, I'd suggest SMS backup app from the market - it backs up and restores into your gmail account.
Ohhh! I'll check out the img files later when I get home. I was afraid of looking into them expecting hard to discern, indescript file names I don't know how to make use of. But that file you pointed out seems obvious enough. I hope it's somehow usable without the full backup. Perhaps a simple move with Root Explorer app would work too? I'm not all too familiar with using adb commands...
Yes I have that app but I don't use it often for backup and restore jobs since I tried several times in the past to restore from backup and always seem to be missing more recent messages.
Thanks for the advice though! I'll report success/failure soon.
I don't seem to have anything inside my com.providers.telephony folder when I extracted data.img...Any ideas?
nvm! Found it in dbdata.img... will update this if this works.
Yes - a simple move with Root Explorer should work too.
It doesn't seem to work... No messages show up even after several retries with reboots I tried opening up the file within root explorer since it has sqlite viewer and it gives me an error..I forgot exactly what but it doesn't let me look within the database unlike if I try doing the same with the original mmssms.db file currently on my phone. I tried sqlite viewer on pc and when I attempt to open the file nothing shows up. Any work around to this? Is it possible for even this file to be corrupt in the backup...that's kinda devastating news..any way to repair this?
Yesterday some apps started to act up (e.g. the terminal emulator that wouldn't start or root-apps that claimed that they could not write to secured locations even though I granted them root), so I rebooted the phone. After that it came back on looking like after a factory reset. There was that Droid I had to press and it wanted me to sign on with my Google account. All my apps were gone (except of the originally installed ones).
Terminal emulator still wouldn't start, WLAN wouldn't connect and after a reboot it would have forgotten every change I did.
Under Manage Apps it would report that the internal storage was filled 0% of 0 MB.
When I received a text it would tell me that my Text Message Storage was full, even though there wasn't a single text in the inbox (they got deleted aswell).
I figure the file system is broken. Do you have any idea what I could do to recover that partition / the data on it?
I am running an XT860, Minimoto 1.7, Safestrap 3 (don't know what version exactly)
Stock ROM is fine.
