Open obex question - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using the open obex server from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3932525&postcount=57, and it only broadcasts object push, which only allows me to send a contact or vcard, how do i set it so i can send any type of file, like a picture?

Synchronising with Microsoft Exchange - Support Code 80072ee2

Hi !
I am trying to find different ways to synchronise with the Exchange Server that I use.
I have Outlook2007 on my home PC and synchronise my Kaiser with the PC's Outlook 2007.
I can see that I can change the location to the actual server in Microsoft ActiveSynch -> Tools -> Options
But when I try this, after a long wait it fails and gives the error message -
80072EE2
I find on a search that this means " The request has timed out. It is generally a temporary or recoverable situation. Try again later "
But it never seems to connect.
I do know that the exchange server and the home PC holds much the same info, for me, so, in reality, I do not need to synch to the exchange server at home.
But I am interested to know if I can synch, when out and about, using
a) a gprs connection,
b) the Kaisers WiFi
I am reading and searching but if anyone has any useful pointers, it would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Ofiaich
Your best bet is to do it slightly differently.
I assume your Exchange 2003 SP2 or 2007?
If so I assume you have an OWA server setup? if not set it up.
Then just go into (on the device), activesync, Configure Server, pop in the internet name of the server running OWA, pop user/pass in, then the rest of the settings as you want them
This has benefits over syncing with Outlook, the majour one being live mail (push mail).
One downside is (depending on your lan config), that the internet name of the server will not be accesable through WiFi on the same lan. To fix this make sure your DNS server knows the internal IP of the server, and map it to the internet name (i.e. if you internet server is mail.my.com then tell your internal DNS server to map that hostname to the internal IP).
After having push mail, you wont go back....
Hi the_ape!
thanks for your reply... I don't understand all, but I will work on it!
I use Outlook2007 on my PC and it connects to the university's
owa.name_of_uni.ac.uk
I wanted to see if I could synch with the server, download emails, reply, add contacts or calendar items, and deal with them at leisure, but when I am away from home.
I know I can use PIE or Opera to go to owa.name_of_uni.ac.uk but I think a gprs connection remains active...
I could see that Microsoft email push is an option on my phone but this is all new for me!

Setup on Outlook 2003/2007:
If you have an existing Outlook profile, follow steps 1-4..otherwise skip to the next section. These steps are for XP based machine. If you have Vista it will be similar but not exactly the same.
1. In Outlook, go to File --> Import and Export --> Export to a file --> Personal Folder File (.pst) --> click on the root folder in this window and choose “select subfolders” --> Click Next --> click browse and choose a location and file name for your .pst file. I suggest the desktop. --> Click Finish --> Click OK.
2. Let Outlook finish exporting your data. This make take anywhere from 1 minute to 30-45 minutes depending on how much data you have (e-mail’s, contacts, calendar).
3. On your XP Machine, go to Start, Control Panel.
a. Make sure your Control Panel is set to Classic View (Upper left hand corner of the window). If it says “switch to Category view” then you are good, but if it says “switch to classic view” then you should click it.
4. Double click on the Mail Icon within the Control Panel.
a. Click on “Show Profiles”
b. You should see your profiles here, most people will have one one and it will be called “Outlook.” THERE IS NO NEED TO REMOVE THIS!
c. Click “Add” --> Type in a Profile name (e.g. Exchange 2007) --> Then proceed to step 1 below.
-----
1. If using Outlook 2007, At the prompt where you choose manual. If using 2003, ignore this part and proceed to the next step.
a. add a email account and choose Microsoft Exchange.
2. Microsoft Exchange Server:
3. Username: Full Name given at Signup.
4. then hit More Settings
5. then click on Connection
6. then click on "Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP" and then click on "Exchange Proxy Settings"
7. then type in mail.(your server).com for the URL
8. make sure SSL is checked
9. click on fast and slow networks, and choose basic authentication
10. Click “OK” twice
11. Then click Check Name
12. And the username/password box will pop open
13. Type in (Your Server)/User (this user is your e-mail address. For Example: your email address is [email protected], this is johndoe)
14. Type in Password
15. Server Name and User Name should now be underlined.
16. Congratulations! You are finished!
Setup on your PPC Device:
----
1. Start -> Programs -> ActiveSync -> Menu Configure Server
a. Server address:
b. Tick on ssl connection if your server uses SSL
c. Username: name
d. Password:
e. Domain:
f. Next -> Finish
g. Sync & Njoy
----
Setup on MS Entourage
1. Account name =
2. Name = Your Name Given at signup
3. Email = your email
4. Accountid= your ID before @
5. Domain =
6. Password =
7. Exchange server =
8. Check that server requires ssl....
9. Uncheck everything under advanced.
10. It should now work!
First of all thanks for your jewel job
I would want to signal the fact that I have followed step by step the whole procedure for the configuration of the server exchange but when I go to cover on the check name unfortunately it doesn't recognize me the inserted password. But is the password that of my email?
Thanks
Thanks austinsnyc!
I have read thoroughly, thanks !!
What does this mean ! " First of all thanks for your jewel job "
I am already using Microsoft Exchange on my PC using Outlook 2007.
The exchange account is managed by the local university. So I think I do not need to worry about sections 1 and 2...
I think I have a stupid question!!!
How do I find my 'domain name' ? That is the only setting I have mssing!
Now wading through uni. info to see if I can find it!

Usually it's the name_of_uni in your name_of_uni.ac.uk - if it doesn't work, you'll need to contact tech support at your uni to find out.
Hi Illrigger!
Thanks! I saw that too, on the university setup information.
On my Kaiser, that box is grayed out so I can't input it there !
I will keep at it!

once you put that @ sign in the user name feild the option for domain disappears. this is something new with wm6. so just try your email address and password without the domain. see what happens. it should work.
Yeah should be fine, you have a choice of using either the domain name, or the @ sign.
basicaly the domain name is everything after @, so username AT domain name
Let us know if there is a problem...
Oh to make sure that the Uni has the functionality turned on, try going to domainname/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
It should come up blank on a web browser, but that is the WebServices folder for this functionality.
Hi the_ape!
could you explain this last bit more please....

because, my university often does not want to support anything other that on-site, residence and dial up services!
with 'try going to' - how am I doing this? frm a PC, Kaiser ?
If I look at my Kaiser I can see ----
Programs > ActiveSynch > Meu > Configure Server ...
I have checked the server name, but the Kaiser took this information from the PC when synching with Outlook 2007.. I feel..
SSL is ticked.
Next -
User name is [email protected]_uni.co.uk ( it is not my email address. )
Password is correct and I re-typed it...
Domain - is light green, and cannot receive input.
save password is ticked.
Advanced -
If there is a conflict - Relace Item on my Device
Event logging - none
Connection - Internet ( only internet available. )
Next
Edit server settings -
All are unchecked - Contacts, Calendar, E-mail, Tasks ... because, for now, I synch to the PC's Outlook 2007. But I have experimented with these and get the Support Code - 80072ee2
Menu > Connections show USB only.
I know, when I am at home, my Outlook2007 on the PC is kept synched with the Exchange Server.... so yes, don't need this...
But I am hoping to do this via WiFi... at University or other WiFi hotspots.
Sorry to be so unclear !
Another edit - if I click on ActiveSynch - Tools - Advanced Tools - Get Device Certificates................. There aren't any!

quick question, if the name of the exchange server is different the first time you connect to it (i.e. "autodetect.name of univ.edu"), should we use that or the exchange server address AFTER it has been initially configured?
Doug2873
I got a feeling that you are correct because I got the Microsoft Exchange Server working now....
Outlook 2007 PC address on the PC was different to what I input to synchronise with my Kaiser !
Attachments in Hotmail still do not work, but don't care...! The email throught M.E.S. gives what I need !
Ofiaich
did you get it working?
Hi navigater!
I got the Microsoft Exchange server working,
but not attachments in Hotmail Live email.

Sending email through secured system

Hi everyone. I've got my tilt set up to retrieve email from my work email account, but I'm having trouble sending emails. The email server is a red hat box running postfix, and it checks to make sure that the computer sending email is authorized to do so. If the PC is connected to our domain, its automatically authorized. If its not on our network then I have to add it's netbios name to the server to allow it to send emails. Problem is that my email log isn't showing a netbios name for my tilt, just an IP address. How can I obtain the netbios name on my tilt? Thanks!

Xda 2i Email setup?

Hi, can anyone here tell me how can i set up my email account on xda 2i? am having hard time configuring it on pop3/imap4.
many thanks!
isn't it located in "messaging"?
click the options or accounts then new account, If i remembered correctly your alpine would ask your email address and attempt to configure automatically, but it'll work best if you do it manually. that is if you know your pop3 settings or Imap4
long story short, if you want your email downloaded to you pda and removed from the server, choose pop3, if you wanna leave a copy on your server, choose imap4.
then the fill out:
Name (to be appeared on sender's information) type your name: John Doe la Cruz
email address: [email protected]
incoming mail server: usually "mail.myurl.com" or "pop.myurl.com"
outgoing mail server: usually "mail.myurl.com" or smtp.myurl.com"
now sometimes when your connected via cellular line, sending worn't work because of outgoing settings you'd have to ask 'em about it.
sample: smtp.mycellcompany.com
then there's advance tab, if your outgoing requires SSL, check the box and I'm sure you'd know it's settings by now.
I think that's about it.

Push Email - Gmail account

Has anyone managed to sync there TD with their gmail account?
Ive gone to the settings in the gmail account, and enabled imapi and followed the intructions for setting it up on the TD2, but i allways get a message saying account details are incorrect...when i know 100% they are right.
Rob
Gmail working with my TD2 is no problen.
Me too. I have no problem with gmail and my TD2.
did you set it up using the below instructions?
1. Enable IMAP in your Gmail settings.
2. Open the Start menu and select Programs > Messaging > New E-mail Account.
3. Enter your Gmail address (including '@gmail.com') in the E-mail Address field*. Google Apps users, enter your full address in the format '[email protected]_domain.com'*.
* Windows Mobile 6.1 users: Enter an unintelligible email address (such as '[email protected]') at this step. This will bypass the automatic configuration for POP access.
4. Uncheck the box that asks to get settings automatically from the Internet and select Next.
5. Select Internet e-mail as your email provider in the drop-down menu.
6. Enter your name as you want it to appear in sent emails.
7. Enter a descriptive name for the email account and select Next.
8. Enter 'imap.gmail.com' in the Incoming Mail Server field.
9. Select IMAP4 as the Account type from the drop-down menu and select Next.
10. Enter your full email address (including '@gmail.com' or '@your_domain.com') and password.
11. Select Next.
12. Enter 'smtp.gmail.com' in the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server field.
13. Make sure that the Outgoing server requires authentication box is checked.
14. Select the Advanced Server Settings link.
15. Make sure that the Require SSL box is checked for both incoming and outgoing emails.
16. Select The Internet as the network connection from the drop-down menu.
17. Select Done and then Next.
18. Select how often you want your phone to send/receive emails from the drop-down menu.
19. For more download options, select the Review all download settings link.
20. Select Finish.
21. Check our recommended client settings, and adjust your client's settings as needed.
Works
Yep had gmail set-up on my td2 for ages now, never had any problems with it. Was a simple set up through windows mobile email wizard.
Work
Oh and no didn't use the method above, I let the phone get the settings automatically from the internet.
This is not really PUSH email right? The phone still goes to retrieve the mail on a specified schedule rather than the server(gmail) pushing the email over to the phone when it receives a new email.
unfortunately, yes. The only way to have PUSH email, is when you connect to an exchange server.
Or you can use alternative email programs, out there, that doesn't have the IMAP "IDLE" protocol crippled, like pocket outlook.
Profimail's IMAP IDLE works really great.

Sipdroid+PBXes+Computer running SipToSis and Skype = Awesome

First post ever! I have been a leecher for a good year now and have marveled at all the incredible stuff that you people post in these forums. I hope that this will help some of you out, if at least a few. First of all I would like to thank gurnted, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have spent a whole day researching how to make this work. If you haven't read his post yet I would highly recommend it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548405
Anyways on to the meat and potatoes of the post. This is a guide to setup incoming and outgoing skype calls via your wifi or 3g networks.
Things you will need:
-Skype account with latest client. (and preferably some kind of subscription)
-PBXes account.
-Computer running SipToSis software http://www.brothersoft.com/siptosis-295109.html and skype client. (need to be running pretty much all the time, or atleast whenever you want to make or recieve calls)
-Sipdroid app.
First thing is first. Create an account at PBXes.com https://www1.pbxes.com/index.php Log into the account and go to extensions. Click SIP then under extension number type 200 then click submit. Next go to Ring groups. Type 00 next to extension list, 60 next to ring time, and check next to hangup then click submit. Next click add ringroup. This time type 200 next to extension, 60 again at ring time and check next to hangup again. Submit that and then click on trunks. Click add sip trunk. Next to sip server type the wan ip address of your router or whatever ip address your ISP gave you( personally I use a DynDns service http://www.dyndns.com/ that is updated via my DD-WRT router. You can use this sight to find your IP http://ping.eu/). You can if you like put a username and password here but I havent figured out how make the SipToSis script ask for my username and password yet. Anyways, give this trunk a name before you go(can be anything) then click submit.
Ok breather for one sec. personal note learn to use paragraphs.
Ok check next to ring group and select 1 for both regular hours and after hours. Next put an asterisk next to regular hours and days at every line(not sure if this is necessary). Click submit and then click add-incoming route. This time next to trunk type your username that you used to login and the -200 (example is if your username was McAwesome then type McAwesome-200). Choose ring group again for both regular hours and after hours but this time choose 2 in the pulldown. Once again put an asterisk next to all the regular hours and days. Submit. Next click outbound routing. Route name: put whatever you like. At the pulldown next to trunk sequence choose the trunk you created and then click submit. That does it for the PBXes account, by the way if you see the red bar across the top that says submit changes then go ahead and click that bad boy away.
Download the skype client and install on your computer. Next download the SipToSis software and unzip it to a folder in your favorite directory. Now go to that folder and edit SkypeToSipAuth.props (personally I use notepad++ to do all my editing http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm). At the very bottom edit the line to look like this *,sip:[email protected]:5060 (example: *,sip:[email protected]:5060). Save and close that. Next edit SipToSkypeAuth.props and change the bottom line to look like this *,*,*,calleeid then save it and close. Alright now open siptosis.cfg for edit.
This is the tricky part. Edit these lines
#Sample AUTO config with NO registration
# username and password not important in this mode
# Set to available port to transport SIP messages on siptosis computer
host_port=5070
username=skypests
passwd=unimportantpassword
do_register=no
# --- end of NO registration example ---
#Sample config with NO registration - use if above auto config doesn't work - change 127.0.0.1 to ip address of computer running siptosis
# username and password not important in this mode
#Set to available port to transport SIP messages on siptosis computer
#host_port=5070
#contact_url=sip:[email protected]:5070
#from_url="skypests" <sip:[email protected]:5070>
#username=skypests
#passwd=unimportantpassword
#realm=127.0.0.1
# --- end of NO registration example ---
To this. Make sure to notice the usename and the port 5060 (I will use McAwesome as an example again.) Also you can put the username and password that you made when you created your trunk but I havent been able to get it to actually ask for the password yet.
#Sample AUTO config with NO registration
# username and password not important in this mode
# Set to available port to transport SIP messages on siptosis computer
#host_port=5070
#username=skypests
#passwd=unimportantpassword
#do_register=no
# --- end of NO registration example ---
#Sample config with NO registration - use if above auto config doesn't work - change 127.0.0.1 to ip address of computer running siptosis
# username and password not important in this mode
#Set to available port to transport SIP messages on siptosis computer
host_port=5060
contact_url=sip:127.0.0.1:5060
from_url="spiersad" <sip:[email protected]:5060>
username=McAwesome
passwd=yourpassword
realm=127.0.0.1
# --- end of NO registration example ---
Now save and close. Make sure skype is running and execute SipToSis_win.bat. As long as everything went well you will be looking at a cmd window with a bunch of information about skype on it and Ips and all sorts of stuff. Check skype and accept any plugins or whatnot it trys to run.
Now setup your sipdroid app and you will be all set. click the sipdroid app and click menu then go to settings. Click Sip account settings. Put username as your username-200 (once again, example: McAwesome-200). Password is your login password for PBXes account, Server is PBXes.com, Port is 5060, and Protocol is UDP. Go back then go to call options. Check Wlan and 3G if you use it. I set my preferred call type to Sipdroid when available but once again that is your choice. Thats pretty much it for the Sipdroid app.
And thats pretty much it. you can make calls out of sipdroid to your skype client and then worldwide (if you have the supscription). Also any call skype recieves you will recieve.
Couple of last things. you might have to run the SiptoSis script once before you actually start editing it. Also make sure that your windows firewall and router isn't blocking port 5060. I also had a problem where i had to turn off the sip algorithm in the router to get this to work over my wlan.
Ok thanks for reading and hit me up if you have any problems. I will try and get back to you as soon as I can but its kinda rough when you are deployed over seas.
You should get your siptosis program from the auther's site http://www.mhspot.com/sts or from cnet: http://download.cnet.com/SipToSis/3000-2349_4-10969407.html
Brothersoft is running a scam claiming it costs $2.50 - it is not true. You can get it for free from the locations I mentioned. You also run the risk of getting a virus or spyware by not getting software from trusted locations.
Thanks leetlikeawping for this how-to.
Where did the name "spiersad" come from? is it your skype username?
Sounds good!
How is the call quality? I have sipdroid running on gizmo 5. and it works quite well but i can't increase the volume because of echoing so it can get annoying when talking. so is this a sipdroid bug or is it better with pbx since it's designed for it?
I can't seem to get it to work, i find the instructions kind of complicated, do you think you can go over the process again, (some pictures would be great!!)
Thanks so much for the informative post! I was able to get this up and running successfully
I could use some help...
I used you instructions for setting up sipdroid,with sip2sip, on skype. I think I may have done something wrong though.
When i try to make a call from my sipdroid I always get your call can not be completed as dialed no matter if if it is a local or international number.
I was a bit confused about the steps after you had us take a breather as well. I was not sure were to be putting in that information.
So as it stands I have my pbexes set up with:
One extension,
2 ring groups,
1 trunk
2 inbound routing, and
one outbound.
I have version fios and got my wan ip set in the files you had us edit.
I m not sure if I was supposed to change the username and password info under the skype info to mine though.
Feel free to send me an email at [email protected] to advise.
Thank you very much.
one more config issue
Very helpful post!
I've found another way to make same things with new sub pbxes functionality introduced recently.
First of all, you don't needed to create trunc (and collect your external ip) any more. Instead, simply add sub pbxes (e.g. 222) with name/password and choose this name (McAwesome-222) in outbound routing as trunc name in your trunc sequence field.
Change your siptosis settings like this:
#Sample config with NO registration - use if above auto config doesn't work - change 127.0.0.1 to ip address of computer running siptosis
# username and password not important in this mode
#Set to available port to transport SIP messages on siptosis computer
host_port=5060
contact_url=sip:[email protected]:5060
from_url="skype" <sip:[email protected]:5060>
username=McAwesome #sub_pbxes name
passwd=yourpassword #sub_pbxes password if any
realm=pbxes.org
expires=3600
minregrenewtime=120
regfailretrytime=15
do_register=yes
# --- end of NO registration example ---
Don't forget to modify SkypeToSipAuth.props (in your example: *,sip:[email protected]:5060) for routing incomung skype calls.
That's all. It really works.
Hope someone is still on this thread and able to help.
When I attempt to use the sub PBX method using the following .cfg excerpt
#Sample config with NO registration - use if above auto config doesn't work - change 127.0.0.1 to ip address of computer running siptosis
# username and password not important in this mode
#Set to available port to transport SIP messages on siptosis computer
host_port=5060
contact_url=sip:[email protected]:5060
from_url="skype" <sip:[email protected]:5060>
username=***** #sub_pbxes name
passwd=***** #sub_pbxes password if any
realm=pbxes.org
expires=3600
minregrenewtime=120
regfailretrytime=15
do_register=yes
# --- end of NO registration example ----
I am unable to register on siptosis when I run it due to time-out. Sipdroid has no problem registering.
When I use the trunck and ip address method I can register both my phone and siptosis but when I make a call I get a message saying your call cannot be completed as dialed.
Also for the auto config, is it supposed to be 5060? (I would guess it doesn't matter as its not going to connect anyway)
any suggestions, I'm reachable at [email protected]
Thanks a ton
Thanks for the tutorial. Works like a charm! Was a bit frustrating at first but not it works. Can't believe this is possible. Free calls over any wifi! I'm using my brother's skype account to which he has a subscription. I can click any contact in my phone and it routes it through sipdroid instantly. Beautiful!
I can't seem to get incoming calls. How exactly do I go about setting that up? I have an extension with 200 set up and an Incoming Route set up. Followed the instructions but to no avail. Thanks for any help!
Sorry for reviving such an old thread but this seems to be one of the most knowledgeable resources about what I am trying to achieve:
1. I have a Google Voice account and a free DID from callcentric.com
2. The GV account is set up with the free DID, so calls to my GV forward to the DID and it is possible to trigger a call from the website (callback to the DID and connecting the outgoing call once I pick up).
3. I am using a real SIP phone as my device at home (Linksys SPA942) with the free DID.
4. I also have a Skype plan with a dial in number that would allow me to make free outgoing calls if I could get the SIP phone to trigger a connection to that dial-in number.
Is there a way to trigger an automatic callback from the SIP phone (either to my fixed Skype dial-in, or dynamically connecting via GV), or have my SIP phone connect to Skype for outgoing calls?
