[REQ] Ringer mode for "X" contacts, Rest on Vibrate. - G1 Apps and Games

Hey I was wondering, is it possible or is there a current one out there that can do this. I normally keep my phone on vibrate. However would be nice for select contacts to have the ringer turn itself on and be loud so I can make SURE I know to answer the phone at work if I hear my G1, while everything else I can easily miss or ignore.
Same with select text msgs from contacts. Is there anything like this or even possible? Thanks. =)

Would use , would buy if worked great.
My suggestion meantime.
Get or make an mp3 sound file..1 second long , recording of nothing would do. Set that as universal ringtone. Then individuals you want to hear from give them "real" ringtones. Set all rings to "ring and vibrate"
Should work with sms as well although you may need seperate sms prog (chompsms)

Ok Ill give that a try for now, cause yea at work I dont care to answer everyone, but a select few I dont wanna miss at all. Just never good to have your phone always ring when its for someone you dont need to answer.
I would pay for a good app too. =)

also you can try out the app CallWall .. its made exactly for that reason

Call blockers are nice and so, however Ive yet to see one work great. Ill try it tho in hopes that it DOES work well. BUT still the REQ remains since there are calls I wouldnt want blocked, but I would just ignore while I am at work, whereas couple calls I would WANNA make sure I notice.

you can set it to just MUTE calls also!!
also i asked him if he can implement that feature (where it blocks all but a select few) so hopefully he adds that soon
but for now you can just add everyone you want to be in the 'ignore' group to a contact group and then set that filter in the program and set it to only mute
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Cool I will play with it and see how it works out. Ill report back if there is something missing, but if what you say is true, thats a good start.

It works all with Locale - now also with individual notification-settings

True Silent Ringtone

I was looking for a true silent ringtone that I could add to certain contacts that I still wanted to know were calling but didn't want to hear. So I thought I could easily search for a "silent" ringtone. Sounded easy enough.
I saw several posts, here and on other forums, where people were looking for a silent ringtone, but the only ones I could find were the ringtone that "only kids could hear, not adults". You know the one where it is at such a high frequency that "anyone over 30ish". Well, what I was looking for was a truly silent ringtone. So I downloaded Audacity and decided to create one for myself.
I created a 30 second silent mp3 ringtone (in stereo, ). Now, I can add that custom ringtone to any contacts that I want. Since I had seen many requests for something like this on here and while googling, I decided to share with all.
And since I know how most people dislike RapidShare, I have attached the file to this post. Maybe others will find this as useful as I have.
Enjoy.

Very good, good solution.
tnx m8..
No problem, glad I could help.
I just found it weird that I was unable to find where anyone had done this before. I'm sure it has been but I just couldn't find any silent ringtones to download.
Great idea jwbrint!
I have recorded silence in the past on old phones BUT it always makes SOME noise.
Will download this now - GREAT
This is a great forum. I just found it. I am retired (old) so bear with me if I am a little slow on some things. I just got a Samsung M520 with Sprint and I want to setup a genuine silent ringer. I downloaded the attached silent ringer from this thread but the format has to be changed to something I have never heard of. I will paste in a copy of a post that describes the way the ringer has to be saved/formatted.
Would any of you younger more tech savy users be willing to convert this ringer to the proper format and attach it here for me? I am going to copy it to my SD card and then move it to the Samsung so that I can assign it. On this Samsung the ringer needs to appear as a video and then the phone will allow assigning and moving it. I know it works that way because I created a "video ringer" using my camcorder feature and this phone will allow ringers if they are "cloaked" as video. Go figure!
Paste:
Change the profile at the bottom of your program window to 3GPP2 - 3rd Generation Partnership Project (*.3g2). Change the "Destination" textbox to the place where you want your ringtone to save to. If you wish to save the property settings and destination, you can click on "Save As..." to save the profile. Now press the "encode" button. Once it finishes, goto your destination and find the file you just converted. Make sure your file is under 512kb. If it is not, lower the duration, bit rate, or sample rate. You're almost finished.
Now you'll need to transfer the converted file onto your phone memory using one of the three ways mentioned in the beginning. It MUST be in the following folder: \DCIM\100SSMED\. Look familiar? It's the same place where you store all of your pictures and videos.
End of paste.
My computer is old -- 500 meghz with 200 meg of Ram so some of this video stuff is beyond its capabilities. I am on XP. I don't know of a software for doing these conversions that runs well on under 150 meg of Ram. Open to suggestions.
Sorry to beg but if you can attach this here I'ld be appreciative. The file size has to be under 500 K so feel free to shorten the ringer time if you need to. Thanks in advance.
I am going to reading around here alot for the next couple of days. This place is cool.
it's interesting how 30 seconds of nothing can be almost half a meg!!!

320k silence .
Hello Fellas, I happen to come across this thread. Okay, help me with this. A silent ringtone? Are you trying to avoid a call? I mean do you set a ringtone for everyone else? Not trying to make fun just trying to understand the rational.
It comes in handy if you have a particular person (or persons) who call you on a regular basis, but your phone cannot ring... like when you're in a meeting.
it also helps if you want to have an sms notification but not a phone call notification
Thanks!
Great help for wrong numbers.
I get calls from an old lady who cant figure out how to reprogram her speed dail.
thanks!~!******
Thanks
I just downloaded the silence...ahhh...and applied it to a friend who calls WAY too much each day. Now if I could just stop this person from leaving me 10 messages a day on voice mail, arg!
Thank you so much!! I've been looking for this forever!! It works so well ^^
Thanks for nothing!! LOL
This is a very useful alternative of using commercial programs that can auto silent the blacklisted people, etc.
Smart!

Some call filtering applications are slow, so that phone still rings once before being silenced. SPB Phone Suite 1.3.1 is like this. If you know of one that does not have this problem, please share
And thanks to OP for the silent ringtone!
thx for sharing
awesome. thanks
The best ringer ever!

Different ringtones for different contacts

Is it possible to assign a seperate ringtone for certain contacts? I have trawled through the user manual trying to find anything at on this but it shows nothing. I dont know whether this would require additional software to be installed or not so am looking for any pointers on this. I have tried to search on this subject but each time the results that come back are totally varied and dont mention this issue. Any help much appreciated

if you dont want extra software:
in the contact details, there is a field under mobile tel that says ringtone.
sadly you cant mute or set to vibrate only
but i think there is a prog (iirc phonealarm? someone verify on this please) that will do exactly that.
Yes. Phone alarm will do that. Doesn't do black list yet, but can also do separate tones for contacts SMS's..
Other alternatives....... Photo Contacts Pro (PocketX). Smartfilter Pro (Novosec),
But, as mentioned above, you can assign ringtones to specific contacts.
Hi Toufas, tha's exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks, if thats in the user guide, I must need better specs
i assigned specific ringtones to some of my contacts but its this morning did i realize that the default ringtone still applies whenever those people call.
i have a 6.1 rom. do you guys think this is the problem??
I can recommend Ringo. You can set ringtones to your categories if syncing with outlook, set up specific message tones and customise with your own mp3, wavs etc...
So does "Ringo" or any similar software allow us to create a category of contacts (personal, business) and assign each category a ringtone?
Also, I have recently switched to PocketPCs. I have a Tilt phone running 6.1 cooked ROM. I should say, Nokia phones give a much better profile and call management options than these phones, hands down! Nokia gave me a silent button I could use to mute the ringtone but let the call continue. This is very helpful in case you forgot to switch it to silent and the phone suddenly ring. You don't always have to ignore the call. Can HTC Tilt do something like this?
Also, one more thing I miss is the vibrate + distinct beep sound Nokia phones have. That beep is heard even when you are considerably away from the phone, very nice sound. So I want to create a vibrate profile on HTC Tilt with a sharp beep sound. Can this be done?
Sorry for so many questions in this thread, but simply did not want to create a new one.

My TyTN II used to have a Silence button when I was running Garmin's DK.3 rom... I do not know about his new roms, but since I've started running AthineOS, I have lost the silence button... dont know yet if I personally miss it, but it means that it does exist...

Ok, I think I got two questions out of that test. J/K
1. Edit: Sorry about that. I didn't read properly.
2. To assign notification sounds. Start>Settings>Personal>Sounds&Notifications>Notifications. Open the Event: drop down, find the event, Open the Ring tone: select the sound, turn on Play sound, finished.
Notification sounds reside in the \Windows\ root folder of the device. I like to put ring tones into the \Windows\Rings\ folder. They work in other folders but I find the Rings folder neater than the root for example and thats what the Rings folder is meant for anyway.
Hope that works for you.
U cant assign different ringtones for text messages to contacts. For that u will probably need some 3rd party application.
hey all~
hurm, okay well if i can't then does anyone know of any 3rd party app that can do it? i know pcm can NOT do it for text's (but they can for calls) . . .
thanks for the help guys and gals
~j
try mortring. you can personalize rings for calls and sms according to individual or category.
although it's been slightly buggy since i upgraded to 6.1, it still does the job well enough.
somynex~
thanks ill google it right now
~j
Try photo contacts. You can assign text tones to individuals on it
hey all~
so igrabed mortringand installedit buthad no luck with it working :-( so i guess ill look into that other suggested program....
like i said it's not a big deal, just something i would likes (it shouldn't surprise anyone as my screen name should imply i'm a linux guy [ubuntu is a linux distro.] and i love everythiing tweaked as much as possible lol)
~j
sorry to hear that mortring didn't work. in WM6 and before it seems to intercept the call and then change the ring.
But in WM6.1 it seems to have to change the ringtone for each contact/category according to the ring i set it to, which can take a long time. the first time after i set the rings, thought my phone froze up. but actually it was just taking its time setting the rings for each contact (and takes a long time when one has a lot of contacts/categories).
anyway after the first couple days of freezes, it seems to work fine now and hasn't froze up on me since.
somynex~
maybe i'll give it another go then....i tried with my brothers contact info. changed his txt tone then had him txt me....maybe i needed to let it sit for longer to 'finish the change' . . .
thanks for the extra info

No problem mate.
Here's a post of mine from almost 4 years ago that you can use with Mortring (free) to make custom notifications for your contacts.
Okay I figured out how to create a custom notification/ringer.
1: go to http://public.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php
And type in what you'd like for the notification or ring to say and then
download it after picking a voice. (keep in mind sometimes you have to purposely
misspell certain word to get them to be pronounced correctly. For example for DJ
I had to spell it as d j).
2: rename that file you downloaded into something you'd like.
3: move that .wav file to your devices /windows directory.
4: go to start - settings - sounds & notifications - notifications (select the
event you'd like to change the ring for and select the respectable audio file).
If using Mortring in step 4 assign that .wav for your contact(s).
dj~
wow thanks, from 4 years ago...kewl that u looked it up fo rme i appreciate it and will be off to create
~j
Of course.. then there's always Electricpocket Ringo. It lets u assign ringtones and sms tones individually, or to groups. The best I've used so far.

Free? I tried Ringo over a year ago and it slowed down my phone a lot.
hey all~
i got mortRing working! seems pretty good, works for sure. one thing though...it seems that everytime i get a text from someone whos got a personalized tone, that wmp opens to try to play the wav file (and go figure, wav=windows audio video...wmp says it can't play wavs lol)
i think i may have fixedn it with a registry tweak, have to wait till someone with a custom tone texts me back lol
~j
hey all~
ok so this question is probably for those who have or have used mortRing....everytime a custom notification comes my media player opens :s
i went in the registry and undid the default wmp handling of wav files (as the ringtones...err text tones lol that mortRing recognizes are wav's) but then it opened a dialouge saying it didn't know how to handle the wav file (nvm it played lol) ii changed the default to mort player but it still opens whenever one of the custom contacts text me....at least mort closes quicker then wmp...but still would be nice to get it to stop...
so any ideas? a registry hack (i'm comforatable doing that, even though im a linux guy i work on peoples win-slows computers....a LOT) anything?
thanks
~j
I have an older version of Mortring that doesn't have that problem.
DJ~
do you happen to know what version number you have? thanks

True Working SMS/Call for Touch Pro?

I've tried heaps (got like 30 in my start menu), done many searches... Tired of heresay and finding out none really work. I want to easily block people off my touch pro. Anyone have a working version of anything?
Answer(credit to mtem1985): Magicall http://www.mobiion.com/magicall.html It's a great little program, can block calls/sms with auto delete, logging, notifications, etc... it can even send a message back to your harrasser like "I told you there is more fish in the sea" or just "You Are Blocked"
Pretty cool, suited my needs perfect.
Here Here! I had the mistake of giving a guy at work my cell number because he "needed a favor" thinking he needed me to work for him and just to find out he wanted to bug me and talk about absolutely nothing. EVERY SINGLE DAY! And it doesn't matter if I yell at him at work and not respond ever to his messages. He still manages to text me all the time a couple times a day! HELP SOMEONE!
Nobody knows of a working one eh?
i've used magicall in the past,
Worked great for me. give it a try
Works perfect, thanks man.
hey there~
i am fairly certain that the free call firewall has all those abilities. i use it to automatically route certain callers to vm. you can auto reply to blocked call via sms if u want. you can specify a black list for calls and sms and even add a blocked call to a reminder list!
hope that helps
~j
Here you go. Hope this helps your problems out.. Good luck
Ur welcome
I've given my phone number to some people that i shouldn't give to, so in need of a program that could solve this problem for me, i've come across this one.
back in the times when i used winmo 6.1 you could set the app to block incoming calls, and sms and it wouldn't even show an icon that something happend. the only way to know if this person tried to call you or text you, you should go into the logging area

Multiple Random Ring Tones

I was watching tv the other day and out of nowhere thought it would be great to have multiple ring tones that werent set to who called you but random every time there is an incoming call. I tried looking up to see if there was anything but with no luck so i finally decided to make my first thread. I know theres alot of great cooks on this site, i am not one of them but i would love to help make this possible.
If anyone else is lazy like me and doesnt want to set different ring tones for anyone but has a huge list of favorite songs then IMO this would be perfect. Let me know if you found one, or if you are going to try to make a program for one to work. Im not sure exactly how phone programming works but i have programmed a few small robots so im not totally new to this, just not experienced enough to jump right on it myself.
I own the HTC Fuze.
You might want to try my Random Ringtone app?
