To add screens (more windows to home screen) aside from the default 3?
I have the latest cyanogen mod and it comes with 5 but I just flashed a cool theme that I want to keep but it only has 3.
So is there a way to do it ? Is there a option to do it that I missed?
PS. I have openhome and that's not what I want.
Your theme prob has the advance laucher if it has a more option when you press the menu button on the main screen, hit that and go into the first option and select amount of screens , exit and reboot to take effect
look up advancedlauncher in the market or install the advanced launcher located in the dev forum
edit: went back and re-read. yeah just hit menu and extended. it already has the advanced launcher. ugh.... too many .9.png's tonight

I love Cyanogen's roms. I just do not like his 5 home screens. I know I can just leave them blank, but knowing they are there bothers me.
is there anyway I can delete the extra home screens?
I tried using Akirah's, which works great I, but the usb to 3.5 mm headphone jack converter doesn't work with that rom. I need my music on the go!
From home screen tap menu>more>extended>homesreen....... This is were it gets a little buggy. The slide is reversed, If you put it to 7 you have 3 home screens, If you put it to 9 you have 1 home screen.

you can try that, but if it doesnt work its probably because cyanogen may not have bundled the advanced launcher in his rom because of its buggy-ness. if yo u really want it, some themers include the launcher or you can go to the development forum and grab it from the dev's thread. search "advanced launcher'
aHH, so if I get this advanced launcher on there I'm GTG?
Sounds like a plan.
Thanks guys!

My bad..... Just removed an experimental theme and all is well with advanced launcher. No reverse bug!
I have the same problem as OP, I dislike the amount of Home screens. However, I've tried Advanced Launcher and it seems to only slow down my system.
Does anyone know how to actually edit some file to manually change the amount of Home screens? Three is fine with me, I never had a problem with that number.
One appears to be android without senseUI.. which boots up automatically.
The other is Sense.
below these two options is a don't ask me again.
Now If I choose one of these to be the default, is there any alternative method between navigating between the 2? perhaps with a shortcut icon on the home screens?
PErfect! [This message is now long enough to post]
If you dont have homeswitcher.. or you dont plain on every switching agian.. The manual way to switch is....
Go to setting>applications>manage applications
Find the launcher that is set as your default. Htc Sense, Launcher, helix...
Then click on it and scroll down and hit "clear default"
Press the home key again, and it will ask what home screen to use.
EDIT: This has been resolved, at the expense of my own ignorance and embarrassment! Thanks for the help, folks.
For whatever reason, all of a sudden, I can't seem to long press on any icons or on the wall itself on my ADW Launcher home screens. So I can't move or delete icons or widgets nor add any new widgets and etc. from that "add" menu. However, I can long press in the app drawer and in folders, and basically anywhere in the phone except for the home screen.
I've tried clearing cache, reverting back to stock launcher (where I can long press fine anywhere), resetting ADW, and rebooting my phone, etc. Nothing seems to fix it. Holding down on an icon will just result in the orange highlight staying on indefinitely.
Clearly it's an issue with ADW, but has anyone experienced this?
did you unlock adw in the menu? you may have locked the desktop.

Download "Home Switcher" from the Market (free). Open it, then hit "Clear Default" on the bottom. It'll bring you to your current launcher's system setting menu, then just hit "Clear defaults" near the bottom. Next time you hit your Home key, it'll ask what launcher you want; pick and choose and choose to make it default or not.
Hope that helps.

Alright, I did some searching, but like any forum, it's generally messy.
I was interested updating my Nook, to either Froyo, or Gingerbread(?), or the latest firmware from B&N...
Rooting it, and retaining root.
Perhaps getting GApps
Definitely getting Market access.
If anyone could point me to the best links in an orderly fashion, I would appreciate that many folds.

good luck
you don't even need to search. all of the threads are on the first page of the dev forum.
That may be but I wasn't aware that development was for the general user. I'm new here using my husband's account.
Thanks for the help guys.

What launcher are you using, stock?
Yes... is there a method to do it with stock via ADB or a launcher you recommend?
Try LauncherPro or ADW, or just search the market for "Launcher". After you install a new launcher, the next time that you press your home button, you'll see a dialog with the list of installed launcher apps with a checkbox at the bottom.
If you have SoftKeys installed, I'd set that as the default (ticking the checkbox), and then configure SoftKeys to passthru a single press of the home button to LauncherPro, ADW, or whatever you want for a home screen manager/launcher.
Once you replace the stock launcher, to add a widget, perform a "long press" on the home screen. This is simply pressing on an available (no icon) area of the home screen for ~2 seconds. You should now see the "Add to home screen" dialog where you can select from several actions. Select "Widgets" and a list of available widgets will be displayed.
HTH
Ok set soft keys as home now how doi configure it to passthrough?
Go to the app drawer and launch SoftKeys. Click the screwdriver icon on the toolbar that appears at the bottom of the screen. This will bring you to the SoftKeys configuration screen.
Select "Virtual Home Button"
Select "Normal Press"
A list of all installed launchers will appear.
Select the one that you want the SoftKeys virtual home button to launch when it's pressed.
Press the back button
Select "Physical Home Button"
Select "Button"
Select the option "Single Tap Launcher, Double Tap SoftKeys"
Now, when you press the home button, you'll go straight to your default launcher. A quick double-press will take you to the SoftKeys app, which acts as a task switcher, among many other things.
Thanks that was a big help guys.
Please help me, my son accidentally changed the default homescreen to a rotating 3D homescreen how can I set it back to the default home screen?

by the way I hope you could specify a little more so that we can help..
hope this help in anyway..
Assuming you're talking about an alternative launcher, and you want to go back to the original Samsung one, you would do it as follows. Tap Settings on the home screen, Applications, and Manage applications. Now mine is ADW Launcher, so I'd tap that, but if yours is a different one, tap that. If you don't know which one it is, just look through the list for a likely candidate. If it isn't on the Thir-party tab, you could try All. Anyway, once you've found the launcher, tap it, and on the next screen tap Clear defaults. Close all screens. Now back on the home screen, tap the Home button. It should open a window where you can select Use by default for this action. Tap that, and then Samsung Home. From now on the original Samsung launcher will be used.
Thanks guys for the tips...it's working now
