Installing paid apps from market - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I buy the app, install it, then have to wipe my phone, I will loose the app.
Question is, if I install it can I pull off the .apk from the phone and if so how?

After you flash the new ROM, sign in with your google account and you will find any purchased apps in the "My Downloads" section of the market. I have a few paid apps and always reinstall from the market without any problems.

I can't find the system folder when I connect to my computer. Would the apk be in there somewhere?

Talking about backing up paid apps is frowned upon in these forums because that is borderline software piracy. The information is available on these forums though. Do a search.

Wow, thanks. I found some threads on that piracy issue. That never occurred to me as most of these apps are under $1 anyway. If you can't afford 1.00 then you probably can't afford monthly service. But yeah, I get it now.

NEW MARKET request

Can anyone post the new market version 1660 or point me to where I can get it. I believe this eneables t mobile charging
Vending.apk is a closed-source app, also known as WAREZ. No one will post that for you, and your thread will most likely be closed for requesting it. And what are you even talking about? "T-mobile charging?" Do you mean that you cant see paid apps in the market? if so, it has nothing to do with the version of vending.apk you have anyways. You need to search for 'Market Enabler" on google code and install that .apk and it will help you fake a provider so that paid apps will show up. No WAREZ necessary.

He's probably talking about t-mobile rolling out carrier billing on the market for their android devices. I'm actually curious as to how we could acquire this without using warez, seeing as how it's a carrier specific application upgrade. I don't really have a need for it, but good for t-mobile.
ps
@socawarrior101 I'm pretty sure you need a version beyond 1660, i have that version already and there's no option for carrier billing.

actually closed source apps arent warez. its basically apps that require payment. so you dont have to be dumbass and disrespectful. plus ALL ROMs HERE except for (cyanogen and non-working hero 2.1 roms) have google appz. so why dont u complain abt them being "warez"
and if u actually knew what was going on...tmobile is rolling out an upgrade to the market which enables the user to buy apps using 1) their google checkout account or 2)their tmobile account

You seem to have a habit of correcting people without having all the facts yourself ;-) Just because something's free of charge to obtain, doesn't mean you have the right to distribute it. Unless you are officially licsened by Google, then you are not allowed to distribute their closed source apps. Just because most devs do it doesn't mean they shouldn't.
From Wikipedia: ""Warez" refers primarily to copyrighted works traded in violation of copyright law." Sounds like warez to me.

is anyone going to post something useful or keep whining like little girls about someone elses useless post, just to add your 2 cents of uselessness?
Anyone at all have any info? I don't really need the carrier billing, but I like being up to date with everything android!
I tried going through cyanogen's thread but didn't get much info there.

trying to install...
I'm at work with no access to adb, but should be home within the hour. Hopefully adb will work.
I've tried using the terminal to install:
(system already set to read/write) su
install /sdcard/vending.apk /system/app/vending.apk
I get no errors through terminal (same thing with facebook ver. 111) but the icon disappears and I have no access to the market.
I've tried using the rooted browser, SUFBS, to just overwrite (copy & paste) the new market over the old one, but the same thing happens, my market icon disappears and I have no access.
Hopefully ADB will give me some better results...
You will have to edit the build.trout.prop file in /system (most likely, test keys need to be changed to the sholes version). Even if this gets it to start, the likelihood of a big issue (no paid apps, etc) is nontrivial.

any way to update a market app not installed by market?

i have new apps installed not by market, is there a way to link them so i can get new updates? i downloaded gem miner dig deeper and its version is like 1.2 and newest is like 2.1 or somthing, i want to update my app. is there anyway to do that?... i cant update because that app isnt linked to the market app but it is on the market. it just doesnt show ive previously downloaded because it was installed from my computer
Sent from my Eris using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
yea download the app threw the market and it will install on top of the other version, then you will have updates as well. unless its a paid app that you didnt pay for, then we cant help you as that would be illegal. im not saying you did, just putting it there.
I am running evil eris and installed all of my apps from an astro backup and they wouldnt automatically update for a week or so but then all of the sudden i started getting notifications saying that app updates are available and it worked. I dunno if I got lucky but I definitely installed all of my apps from a backup and not the market. Updated scannerbuddy this morning as a matter of fact.
i have a paid app from a torrent i would like to update and add to my market

which is completely illegal and could get you banned from this site for mentioning that you stole the app, or could get you in big legal trouble. might i suggest you pay the 2.99 for the app (cost of most apps) and support the dev. its really not that much considering your phone bill is over $90 each month, so i think we all are rich enough to give up $3 to devs for their hard work.

[Q] What to do after rooting samsung Captivate?

I just rooted my samsung captivate and got "super permission" folder to my phone. so what is the next process in order to get 3rd party apps and games?
Apps and games? You get them from the market like usual. Most will say ' for root only'

Did you really just ask this question?
Most people do what the second poster suggested, you can use the android market or appbrain or even just look for apk's online and see what works. Is this your first mobile phone ever or are you pulling our legs I should mention you do not need to be rooted in order to get games and apps on your phone, only certain games and apps require the phone to be rooted.
yaa
This is my first "Android" mobile that's why i don't have enough information about it.
Thanks though

Just giving you hell haha. If you haven't already found out android market is tied to a gmail account. appbrain is an app you can download which is also very popular and it is too many better then the android market app.
Guys...he asked how to get 3rd party apps. Sheesh, you act like he's stupid. Refer to this for enabling 3rd party apps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738376
P.S. I would recommend you use method two, way easier and much less of a risk for you to mess something up. Also, here is a video tutorial for method two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zo9BIRXvNfw&feature=related

Bud, the original post was edited after our comments so how about you pay attention to what is going on. Secondly some good ribbing is all that was going on prior to the op changing their question. So get off your horse and kick yourself if you think we are being too hard, I know I wasn't. Here is the original quote that if you would have read my first post you would have seen what they asked.

I need to install Metrotalk on my new phone and I need YOUR help

I searched and searched and cannot find a clear answer to this, so I apologize in advance if I'm asking something redundant.
I recently purchased an Icon and my most used app on a daily basis was Metrotalk. I was part of the beta and purchased it as soon as it was available eagerly. The dev was awesome and updated the app in a way that set a high standard. Well, with the threat from Google of blocking access to Google Voice for 3rd party apps, the developer decided to unpublish the app just weeks prior to me finally upgrading to a WP8 device (which he added numerous exclusive features for).
Here's the deal though: the xap is still available for download from it's page on the store. Is there any way for me to get install this manually on my phone still? If so, can anyone direct me a thread here that tells me how to do it?
Thanks, folks. Here's to hope ...
Does your phone have an SD card slot? If so, download the .XAP from the web store and put it on the SD card, then (with card in the phone) open the Store hub. There should be an option to install the app from the SD card. I can't promise it'll work but it's worth trying.

Unfortunately it doesn't.
I've read about developer unlocking my phone, using a xap deployer and several other things but I'm hesitant to go that route without knowing for sure it would work. I'm not a developer and I'm not looking to sideload a bunch of apps or anything like that. I just want this one that I purchased back really, really bad. Yeah, it's that useful of an app for me.
When it's unpublished, there's no way to redownload it. You need an unencrypted xap for that (not from the store). Best way would be to ask the developer, and if he gives it to you you can just download the windows phone SDK, register the phone & deploy the app.

Well, the worst that could happen is him saying no. You don't put your device security to risk, it's not illegal and should be ok ^^ if you don't want the whole SDK and don't need it, you can get the "lite sdks" from arnold link here: http://dhost.info/vink/avink/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4 it has everything needed to deploy the app.
Tried to contact the dev 3 different ways and no response. This sucks.

I tried there too, along with email and reddit.
What I don't understand is why the pressure to remove the app from the store when other apps (such as Free Talk) are still available on there? Was Metrotalk singled out because it was awesome???
These are rhetorical questions, as I know no one here can answer them and the developer only talks about Metromail now ...

[Q] Do I need to purchase a Dev account to deploy apps?

Hi, I just finished a phonegap application that I want to deploy in a Lumia520, but I've been trying without success because it says that my phone is locked. I read on the microsoft site, that I can do this by using the registration tool, but I get an error related to the Windows Dev account, I tried to create one but it charges me $20 for it, my question is, is it necessary to deploy apps? if so, what do I do with the clients' phones? I would provide them the XAP, but, would they have to unlock their phones as well? I would appreciate your help, thanks!

Your Welcome,
Yes, in this case you have to Purchase it to Deploy the App to your Phone to Test it, and to Publish your App to Store, so that your Clients can Easily Install your App from the Store.

No, if you give them the XAP then they should also have their phone unlocked.
You have to publish your app to store, so that your Clients can install it.
I think there is an option to undiscover you app from the store, so no one can see it, people can only be able to install is using the URL you have provided to them.
