Well my Tether for root was working just fine until a couple hours ago. Well it's working fine on my girlfriends laptop with vista but it won't show up on wifi connections on my windows 7 laptop, though other wifi networks work just fine. Why is this?
You could just try changing the channel that it is broadcasting on, I used to have to do this sometimes for my computer to see it. You can change the channel in settings
Thank you, got it working.

Hi, so I have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my netbook, however when I turn on wifi tether for root users, the connection is not shown on my netbook. Any compatibility problems reported with Ubuntu? The same laptop, with Win7 installed, has no problems connecting.
Thanks,
Tucka
lol not sure what the issue is
I had all kinds of stupid issues with 9.10. I nuked it after 24 hours and went back to 9.04. By all accounts, I lasted longer than most people.
Are you able to type the ssid in manually. Mine wouldn't search but if I typed in the ssid then it would pick it up.
I have manually entered all info on IBM x_30 running Sn0wL1nuX 10.0 from USBoot. Shows all the avail networks around (60-70ft away)not EVO 1/6 inch away) Sony Vaio/Win vista no connect problems. Wont even see Evo .keeps storing as hidden nwtwork.
Today i forgot my usb data cable at home and found myself desperately looking for an internet connection with my laptop. Ive downloaded 'bernacle wifi tether' , tetherblu and '' wireless tether for root users''.
Neitherr worked for me. In all of those my laptop could see the network those apps produced but could not connect even at maximum signal strenght.
Did anyone ever succeed with wifi tether on the n1?
Edit:rooted with cm 5.0.6
ive used barnacle, its pretty nice
any messages on why it couldnt connect? your laptop support ad-hoc networks?
Sorry for my noobility ..i dont know what is an ad hoc network. I dont receive any errors, it tryes to connect until it times uot saying it couldnt connect or repair the connection of unlnown reasons. Im using vista x64 on an n80x5 assus notebook. Could it be that i need some additional drivers for the n1?
No, you don't need any drivers to connect to WiFi.
Tested WiFi teather for root when downloaded it, works perfectly.
Check your laptop settings, I'd guess that it has absolutely nothing to do with the phone.
Barnacle became my #1 wifi tether program. works evertime. it might be the way you have your laptop setup or something. WiFi teather for root works also.
If you have static ip on your laptop...then none of those will work. Set your laptop to obtain ip automatically...i bet it work then.
Problem solved !
it was indeed a problem with my network adapter's driver.
Works great now!
thank you!
Last night I was trying to set up a wifi hotspot from my HTC One to tether 3G to my laptop. After everything's been set, I tried to connect to the wifi hotspot on my laptop but it doesn't work. It says "Limited Access". Since this is the first tme I am using an Android device I am really confused right now. Please help :fingers-crossed:
My Chromecast was working flawless on my laptop, tablet, and phone. 3 days later, my phone's wifi doesn't work when Chromecast is connected to my wifi. My tablet and laptop's wifi works fine though. When Chromecast is off, my phone's wifi works fine.
I restarted the router and the problem persists. I haven't changed any settings on my phone.
Anyone know why this is happening?

The only thing I can think of is to make sure your phone isn't trying to connect ad-hoc to your Chromecast (it does this for initial setup). Otherwise make sure there aren't any router settings that conflict between the two devices.
Your issue sounds similar to mine. What I have happening is, whenever I select a video from my phone it will play for a varied amount of time but then stop. I will look at my phone and it is disconnected from my wifi and the icon turns grey. I have to then toggle airplane mode to get it to reconnect. When this happens every device on my network gets kicked off of my network. Now I am running a custom rom on my phone and have data issues throughout the day. So, I don't know if it is because of this or if anyone else is having issues like this.

I have issue with browser, on my pc i set up Chromecast it worked fine but i can not see the chromecast in the browser, can anyone help please?
Thanks
I have been having issues where i am connected to the wifi but the device stops passing any traffic. I have fing installed and i can't ping any other devices on my network. I know its just my phone because i have my work phone and tablet connected to the wifi and they still work fine browsing webpages, watching movies etc while the droid turbo can no longer communicate with the local lan or out to the internet. If i switch the wifi off then on again it will reconnect and then work normally. I can then ping devices on the local lan and access pages on the internet. This has happened a number of times now since i got the device.
Edit: I just updated the phone and still get the issue. I have a cisco WAP at home, we have cisco WAP's at work which i will test tomorrow. If this thing still has issues i am just going to swap it out for a Note 4.

I've been seeing issues with Cisco wlans too.
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
so it looks like it works good at work, something with my home cisco ap and this phone as all other devices at home work ok.

Yeah this phone does not seem to like my router for some reason. Keep in mind I'm not a networking expert, but I've tried every combination of options and settings every which way from Sunday and I just can't get the thing to work. When I do connect the phone to my wifi it kills the the connection on every device in the house. At first I though it was just a wireless thing, but even the downstairs computer which is plugged in directly to the router doesn't work. Then as soon as I disconnect the phone every device works again. I thought maybe there was too many devices, so I disconnected all but the downstairs computer, still had the issue when I connected the Turbo. I've tried just turning off the WPA2 and just having an open system, I've tried connecting the phone using a WPS pin (This one actually worked for a good 5 minutes before crapping out and hasn't worked since). On the advanced options of the phone I tried an automatic IP as opposed to the default DHCP setting (This also worked for a good 5 minutes before not working ever again). I've tried limiting it to just one frequency band. I have tried so many different things and I just cannot make this phone work on my router. And I know it's my router because the phone works fine at work.
phone: Droid Turbo
Router : Asus rt-ac66r
yup within ten minutes of getting home, the device no longer passes traffic. My work S5 still works fine at home and so does my samsung tablet. The device worked on wifi all day at work on our enterprise wpa2 network no issues. I tried doing static ip at home, changing to 2.4 ghz, trying new ssid. Not sure what else to do with this thing...
Not just you
I posted a comment on Motorola's forum where people are discussing their wifi issues... And my work around. I currently beleive its a software issue and can be fixed via update. Also, today I found (it appears) that the longer the phone goes without a reboot, the shorter amount of the it appears to go with out needing the wifi card reset.

My work around fix...
First, over night my wifes phone now behaves just like mine. It now connects to wifi and after sometime passes it no longer passes data (but stays connected). I needed a way to auto disable/enable the card... I installed Tasker. I have it set to check every 15 minutes, if the phone is connected to WiFi, to disable then enable the WiFi card. I use WifiMatic to enable the wifi card when the phone is connected to the cellular tower that is near my house. (Doing this by GPS uses more battery power...) Using Tasker with the rule to verify its connected to wifi first helps not enabling wifi if its nit needed and lets WifiMatic enable/disable it as needed.
