Okay well I had put the xROM theme on my booted G1 but its not working properly so I want to restore back to the original theme after the boot up with the Android riding a Skateboard. If its needed I used this this tutorial to boot my phone. I want the same theme I had after I booted it to that.

Please be explicit. Did you flash xROM or the xROM theme for Cyanogen mod?
If you flashed xROM it won't have worked unless you'd flashed the 1.33.2005 SPL first.
If you want your phone to return to the stock look, grab the latest stable cyanogen mod here, wipe your phone and flash it.
To copy that update to your phone, boot in to recovery (home+power) and go to the console. Type "ums_enable" to enable usb mode, copy the update then type "ums_disable" when you're done. Type "reboot recovery" to get back to recovery (then wipe and flash)

Well I have everything from that guide, and what I had tried to do was put xROM on it by going to boot uploader and installing the update.zip file. Now the theme is on here but nothing works.

Boot uploader? Do you mean home+power? home+power is recovery mode...
Just follow the steps I posted and your phone will be fully functional with the stock theme...

Ugh now the G1 says my SD card is damaged and I press format and it won't do it. It just keeps staying in the notification bar.

I am having problems with my phone, specifically the dialer and messaging working properly, and I have a feeling it is some kind of remnant from a past ROM/theme I have installed, and I want to wipe EVERYTHING, but can't seem to figure out how.
I have a G1 with RA-dream-1.3.2 and currently have CM4.2.3.1, no theme. I have used all the wipe options available in RA recovery, but CM is still on there, so I know I am not wiping EVERYTHING yet. I want to go back to where I was right after I originally rooted and start over completely.
Thanks in advance.

This seems to have made me lose root access...?
Ok, this weird, I flashed the ADP 1.6, which I should need root access to do. But I can't flash CM, I can't use Quick Boot....
Not sure exactly what I am doing wrong, and I am not sure if I still have root or not.
Fastboot your system and recovery NANDroid's, you werent supposed to boot on the ADP ROM.
Didn't you do this when you installed cyan in the first place?

ok here's the problem
i have a htc dream from rogers
hboot-1.33.2005 original was 1 . 33. 0010
i used this method to root my phone
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Rogers_Dream_EBI1_to_CyanogenMod
but while i was doin this i skipped one step the part when you have to install the htc system image of android 1.6
and went strait to installing cyanogen 4.2.7
now phone in normal boot is stuck on the rogers boot screen
but it still goes into fast boot and recovery Cyanogen v 1.4
but i tried to flash it in fast boot again with the correct method but instead of detection as android phone or htc adp device it detects as android 1.0 Can any one help it would be very helpful
thanks

not too sure but can't you reflash the base image and start all over from scratch?

Easiest solution would be to buy a Micro SDHC card reader typically one that looks like a USB stick. It saves you all the hassle of fast boot and all that junk. My MicroSd card reader has saved me a lot of time when I had to reformat my partions.
U could start 4rm scratch but this time use amon_ra's recovery it works great..plus the same thing happened to me the 1st time i ever rooted (about a year ago) so ur cool. As 4 the 1.6 image use the offcial rom then flash wat u want jus my 2 cents.
ya ik wat u are sayin but see i don't know how to install the base image from the sd card btw i have a sdhc card and the reader

wipe first, then flash the 1.6 image just like you flashed the cyanogen update. after it restarts, hold down home to get back to recovery and flash your cm update. done
Thanks lets see if it works

wHEN I INSTALL THE IMAGE LIKE THE CYNOGEN IT SAY FINDING UPDATE PACKAGE
OPENIN IT
e: NO SINGNATURE
e: vERIFICATION FAILED
This should be a pretty simple fix.
First: Find a Cyanogen 4.0.4 .zip or something that came out about the same time.
Second: Wipe
Third: Flash that image
Forth: Ensure it boots
Fifth: Flash the 1.6 image
Sixth: Go to Cyanogen's or Wes Garner's latest build
Trying a .zip that doesn't require that should fix your problem.

Step 2: Power down device, Power up while holding down the "Home" key, and select "Wipe" or "Factory Reset" which ever is listed in your Recovery Boot.
Step 5: Download THIS IMAGE and then in Recovery Mode flash this .zip
Step 6: Happens w/o a reboot. After flashing Step 5 directly flash @cyanogen's or @wesgarner's ROM
*I HIGHLY RECOMMEND @wesgarner's ROM HERE as it has been faster and much more stable for me than @cyanogen's ROM's lately*
Alright.
Title basically explains it all. I'm not an expert at messing around with my phone, but I'm not a novice either.
I do everything through trial and error. My phone has the correct Radio and SPL. Yes, I flashed the Radio before the SPL. The phone isn't bricked because it will go into recovery mode. But apart from that, it's all that it will do.
I was running RA's V1.5.1 recovery. Now it's at JFV1.43.
I think my mistake was trying to update from ADP1 straight into Cyanogens 4.2.7.1.
I had a ADP1 phone and tried to update to Cyanogens 4.2.7.1, and everything just went downhill from there. I never managed to accomplish my set goal, which was to flash and run Cyanogens 4.2.7.1.
Then when that didn't work. I tried downgrading to RC29 and just re-rooting my phone. By this time I was running RA's recovery V1.5.1. That went as planned until I flashed the latest radio and spl and wanted to upgrade to the modified version of RC30. I flashed the RC30 ROM. At this time, it wouldn't get past the blinking Android screen with the bot. I thought it kept on getting stuck there because it required the hard spl. Whether the latest spl and the hard spl are the same thing, I don't know. I flashed the hard spl. That's where my stupidest mistake probably happened. That's when my phone decided it didn't want to go past the G1 screen when rebooting/booting.
Is there anything I can do in order to fix this? And can someone explain to me a proper method of flashing Cyanogens 4.2.7.1 ROM? Is there anyway I can connect with my phone through adb on JFV1.43 recovery and just flash RA's V1.5.1 recovery through there and push a new ROM?
Frustration builds. Lol.
What I want to have on my phone is RA's V1.5.1 recovery with Cyanogen's 4.2.7.1 with the Eclair theme.
Many thanks in advance to whomever decides to grant me some much needed help.
OK, as long as you can still access your Recovery menu then you're not bricked.. so smile lol.
Rememeber, before you install the Cyanogenmod 4.2.7.1 ROM you need to install the HTC 1.6 Dev Rom first.
HTC took it off their website, i have it uploaded on my site...
do this: ( This is for HTC Dream (G1) )
CLEAR YOUR EXT PARTITION or REPARTITION YOUR CARD to get rid of any Incompatible files.
Download CM 4.2.7.1 -> http://www.myhangoutonline.com/downloads/?did=17
Download HTC Dream Image 1.6 -> http://www.myhangoutonline.com/downloads/?did=6
Place them both on the root of your SDCard.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode...
1. WIPE
2. Install HTC Dream Image
3. Hit Reboot when it's done (and keep an eye on the phone!)
4. you will see the little picture with an arrow (radio installation), WHEN YOU SEE THE PHONE REBOOT HOLD THE HOME KEY. It should reboot right back into recovery.
5. Now install the CM ROM
6. Reboot and you're done...
Hope that helps!

I'll try that and see how it goes. One question though, do I rename them to "update.zip" like always, or no? I'm gonna get an sd card reader to follow through with the procedure you gave me.
Thanks a lot.
If you are still showing recovery JF1.43, update your recovery first to either AR 1.5.1 or CM1.4. Once that is done, you won't need to rename anything, just select the update any zip option from recovery.
Dont reboot in between the htc image & cyanogen rom..It even says that on his site..This is what to do..
1. wipe
2. update from and zip the pick the htc image
3.update any zip and pick the cyanogen rom
4.Now reboot
5.should go to recovery and reboot one more time
6.Bam your done and no one got hurt either

The links posted aren't working for some reason. I tried going to the website to look them up and no go. If I can just get a proper link to download the HTC 1.6 Dev Rom I should be good to go.

Many thanks to the people that helped.
Dear XDA devs and readers,
After rooting my G1 with the RC8 rom and the hardSPL + latest Radio 2.26I
my phone wont go past the G1 startup screen after flashing higher version of cyanogen 4.04. happily ive done a nandroid backup with the standard ROOTED ROM.
i redone the procedure with set factory default dreamNBH.img and the wipe functions.
it have worked before with cyanogen 4.2! after installing TMO custom the problems begun.
Edit: things i tried:
reset to default wit the DREAMNBH
Wipe/factory
reflash different versions
changed SDCARD (htc gold)
"adb logcat" is good for diagnosing stuff.

It sounds like you need to install HTC's 1.6 recovery image (not on HTC's website but it's floating somewhere on XDA) before installing any of the Cyan's roms (due to C&D notice from Google).
So, you need to
Factory reset
Re-format and re-partition SD
Flash HTC 1.6 recovery image
Flash Cyan of your choice
Should work.
Good luck

AH i didnt see it that way. I did not found any manual/workarround eather. i thought i flash the 1.6 dev and then go to console and mount the mtdblock3 as RW and flash_image pimped 1.4 and then upgrade.
unfortanatly i was unable to mount so it flashed my recovery. now i have to:
1.downgrade to RC7/RC28 again
2. install the root acces with the pimped recovery 1.4
3. save the dev 1.6 to SD
4. Flash the DEV 1.6
5. Wipe
6. NO REBOOT!
7. flash latest Cyanogen

Just by using a pure logic.... shouldn't you follow all the same steps if you have the same problem??? Letting us know that you have that problem will not make it go away. Besides, nobody can help you if you don't tell us how you got to this point. What rom did you have and what did you try flashing?
well i tried to install the hero 2.1 rom and i have the android system recovery utility build: JKv1.41 and it doesnt apply the update right nor does it wipe and factory update i just reboot and it shows the g1 sign goes off and starts recovery again can someone please help!!!!!!!
You are not bricked
If you can get to the recovery image, then you are not bricked. You can flash a different rom to get your phone back to where you want it to be. Or you can restore your nandroid backup (if you made one) from the recovery.
Which recovery image are you using? What ROM are you flashing from?
Do you already have the Danger SPL and new radio needed for a Hero ROM?
go to recovery, go to console, type in ums_enable, put a different rom onto your sd card, wipe your phone, and flash the rom.
hopefully you got your phone back to working order.
Are you trying to flash hero without the Danger SPL? Only reason i can think of why it wouldn't flash.
WOW you cant brick a phone from roms!
Hasnt that been said many times?
You dont know that brick is, when you really have you will know
Its one of those instincts that you get
Downgrade your radio and you will know what a true Paper weight is.
