Hello guys, I've got a 2GB MicroSD in my G1... if I buy a brand-new 4GB MicroSDHC class 6, will I have some improvement in general performance of my phone? I have done the partitioning and all that kind of things... thank you!
assuming you are using a class 4 or lower then the answer you will get from XDA is mostly yes.
Some will agree and some will claim placebo effect but my personal opinion is the faster the better.
I've done some test and the maximum speed of my card is 6,4 mb/s.... will the new card improve the GENERAL performance of the ANDROID operative system? Or I will have only some stupid improvement in camera photo saving?

Depends.. the only advantage I see in upgrading your card without using it to store your cache or expanding the amount of apps you can have installed is watching and recording, video and photos, and more space for music or whatever miscellaneous files you choose to store and access
Ok thank you

Hey people
I just came to ask a question about Hero, I've seen a Hero in full speed but if you use a sd card with no class speed on it will it effect the speed? and if so how much will it effect the performance of a rom like akirah(Modaco) v1.5.1
and if it does effect the speed give me a 1-10 performance slowdown
thx for the help in advance

yes no class sd card will affect the speed. its going to be hard to rate becuz people have their on views and opinion on their rating scale.
Running Hero on a low class card would probably tip you over the edge if you were feeling suicidal...
Just buy a class 6 card, you can pick up an 8GBfor less than $20.
Hi,
Has anyone tried either the Lexar or Patriot 32GB microSDHC card with their Droid/Milestones?
Any issues at all?
Thanks!
Any information at all would be appreciated.
I haven't been able to find any information by searching forums.
I am running Cyanogen 6, 2.2.1, so I should be able to format the 32GB card. I'm just concerned with compatibility issues with the original Droid 1 and the Milestone.
Anyone?
Thanks!
this would be interesting for me too. im searching a 32 gb card which is workin!
yeah, would love to hear something about 32gb goodness too ^^
Yeah I'm surprised that we aren't getting more feedback with this topic.
I've found threads with 32GB cards with EVOs and Droid Xs, but, that's about it.
I think it helps if you manage to get it formatted properly, either on a desktop computer or on your device (if it supports it).
I'm tempted by the Patriot 32GB Class 10, but, some of the people on Newegg seemed to have some issues with it on a their Droid Xs.
Im using a 32gb class 10 lexar microsd in my milestone, so far its working great and have had no problems

Do you experience any subjective speed increases with the new card?
Have you run any SD Card speed tests with the card? If not, would you mind doing so and reporting back?
Just wondering if the Milestone will benefit from a class 10 card (or any card greater than class 2).
Thanks again!
i got 8.8MB/s write speed and 12.7MB/s read using antutu system review btw im also using apps2ext and cm7. I dont know by using apps2ext if the benchmark is effected. I was using a 16gb class 2 Kingston card before this and generally haven't noticed much of a speed difference but I mainly use the card for music
Edit: SD tools gets 10.6MB/s writing speed and 14.4MB/s reading speed

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your results. Those performance speeds are quite attractive!
I'm surprised that you you don't feel any subjective speed increases though. I would have thought that when accessing applications stored on your SD card, or when you initially remount your SD card and have to search through media using Gallery, that the difference would have been significant.
Although it is possible that our phones doesn't support much more than Class 2 speeds.
But, at least we know that the Lexar card is compatible with the Droid/Milestone!
Thanks very much for the information!

Class 2 is (roughly speaking) 2MB/s writing speed. Imagine you want to copy a lot of mp3's or a movie (or use it as USB dongle) with 2MB/s. unusable.

Oh sure, I understand that a faster card will make file transfers with my desktop much faster. I guess I was hoping to get more of a performance boost from my phone (ie. Apps2SD) with a faster card.
I'm not sure I'd call 2MB/S unusable for desktop file transfers. But, then again I don't change the music on my phone more than once a month. I can see it being more troublesome if you changed it more regularly. And hey, more speed is always good
Something else to consider - I have an 8GB class 2 card.
Loading angry birds seasons from my SD card = 15 seconds
Loading from internal memory = 9 seconds

Yes, that's a great point. I just don't know if the Droid/Milestone can take advantage of a microSDHC card with a higher transfer rate than Class 2.
Have you tried a faster card with your phone?
Does anyone have any comparison numbers with faster cards and application loading using Apps2SD?
Thanks!

Wow, impressive numbers. I wish the Droid/Milestone had half that performance
Is anyone using the Patriot 32GB with a Droid/Milestone?
With the Milestone SD card which came with the phone (I think this is a UK retail version) "OEM SD SU08G", I got these results:
3.8 / 14.8 MB/s
I added this simply to have something to compare with.
Will edit this image of the results in later: thumbnails37.imagebam.com/12224/fae506122237685.jpg

I get similar results from my no-name stock 16GB card.
I'm using the Patriot 32GB microSDHC class 10, so far it works well in my milestone.
Below is the screenshot by SD tool.

Using this kind of sdhc which is c10, try not move the files too much once a time from pc to ms, or it might caused reboot or something else.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your results!
You're the first person I've heard of who is using this combination. Your speed test results are very impressive.
May I ask you to clarify your comment regarding reboots? Do you mean that if you move large files, or a large quantity of files from your PC to your Milestone, that you have been experiencing reboots? What other issues have you been experiencing?
Have you noticed any kind of speed increase?
Thanks!

In my place, there are many persons who are using this sdhc, so don't worry MS can support it.
In our experenice from our fourm, some MS work great and nothing happened.
But, some MS including my MS have the problem about reboot, app exit when you are using it, if you move a large quantity of files once a time from PC to MS.
There is also a problem from my experenice, not for all others.
My MS could not identify the SD card, or need to format the Sd card.
In this situation, the SD card repairation by some sd format app could be settle the problem, and then the card is back. The information of the repairation shows that there are some unknow link, bad sector, or error link. When I look further, I find the files that often appear above three error message are in the below folders /sdcard/LOST.DIR and /sdcard/LazyList. Thus I think these are the reason why the problem happens.
There is an interesting thing. I have fat and ext partitions in my card, but the partition of ext never has any problems. Last month, I format the fat32 by 64K formation, and it works well so far. (someone prefers 32K)
The speed increase. Yes, but not so significantly. I feel the system is more smooth. The delay when open the app is also less, but you know the speed also involve the size of memory. So, it's haven't extreme different.

I don't think u will notice any significant increase in performance with class 10 sd, well maybe only when u copy/move stuff from/to it...
But for browsing your mp3's and gallery from your phone, class 6 will do just fine, trust me

But for a A2SD or Data2SD configuration in hd2, class 10 sounds to be more suitable.... ain't in?
Well, there is no such big app on android that needs 10 MB/s read/write and/or needs such big amounts of memory which would require it to pull large amounts of data from sdcard...
Class 10 cards are just waste of money since no app can utilize its full potential, hence u don't really need it that much. But if u can get your hands on one, it won't hurt to have it...
But performance wise, u wont really notice any big difference

anyone using class 10 cards on their salsa?
does it help with performance?
any significant increase in speed?
#1. Class 10 SD card means the card is capable of transfering 10mb of data per second.
#2. Will it has noticable performance increase? Well, it depends on which divice you are using it with.
Talking about salsa, I think it wont be able to achieve a noticable difference in perfromance as compared to class 6 SD cards. Reason being, Salsa's overall configuration is not one of the highest. Being said that, it may not have high transfer rate while working with SD cards.
Salsa devs can add more info on transfer rate of salsa.
Check the SD standards official website to learn more about SD cards. Here is the link

Yep
It works... I got a 16GB Class 10 card. Much faster than other cards around. Even class 6 is good enough.
I don't think so, the speed of the divice will depend on the slowest process. It will only give higher speeds when using in usb storage.

not in this case, ive used several s cards of various speeds and classes, and each have there differences, hence why when we use them in this phone for a specific reason...a set on is best. ie class 6 or above for usage with ext3. and it does work
Hi all, I have a couple of questions before I get my new sd-card.
1. I got my eyes on the SanDisk Ultra UHS-1 8gb class 10 sdcard with a write speed of 30mb/s(advertised). I was just wondering if there would be a noticeable speed difference (i.e. App loading time) if I partitioned that sdcard, as compared to my current class 4 Kingston sdcard.
2. Also, I've read from many forums that some devices don't see noticeable increase in speed from class 6 onwards... Is that true for our device too? (SGM)
3. Is ext4 partition better or ext3 partition better?

1. Well u surely won't get the advertised mb/s, but it will be a reasonably fast speed, as speed depends on your cable too (for trasnfer). I'm not sure, but yes u will notice that apps load faster (im basing this on what michie said in the swapping section of the performance thread, so its probably the same for loading from external partition)
2. Yes probably little difference between a class 6, 8 and 10. Maybe because most devices can't read beyond a certain speed or even if they do, that threshold speed is enough and lies in the range of class 6 upwards.
3. I don't really know, but i would suggest ext 4 as i see it recommended in many app to sd apps. Someone could clarify this.

Try Sd tools free on playstore to test your sd speed write/read before partition
(I try Speed Write true normal like sd class : 10Mb/s (class 10)
and test again after partition.
(I Test it & The Result Sd speed write reduce to 8Mb/s after partition but sd read Increase, test on my sd class 10)
If you want to boost more speed you can try free app called sd booster on playstore.
Good app to gain more speed.

So buying a class10 sdcard does help increase the apploading speed in a2sd?
Maybe yes maybe no? some sd different so you must try in my case. yes the speed reduce.
From 10 to 8Mb/s
but Read Speed Increase from 23Mb/s to 28Mb/s
if I use sd booster and set it on 6Mb. my sd write reduce to 6.8 mb but Read speed increase to 32,1 Mb/s
and I got more speed read to gain more smooth performance to play game and more.
also speed up booting on your phone.
but decrease performace make a file like recording and take a photo.
but speed app is awesome.

You didn't get my point. I'm talking about app-reading speeds in app2sd in an ext4 partition. As in app-loading time. Would it decrease?
Yes off course Increase If you boost your memory... more speed you have but low write.
I'm use ext4 partition too as my Internal memory with Internal HACK memory and OC.
Take a look.
Iam using sd class 10 transcend 16GB.
and use ext partition as default memory and now all of my app in ext4.
app speed & booting is great after I use sd class 10 then my old sd card sandisk 4GB class 4.
