You can make phone calls, texts, and if you can actually believe it you can take pictures. Also I heard when you root your phone you need to start spelling words correctly. Correct me if I'm wrong.

you can do everything supremeteam256 twice as fast as before.

You can install a full Linux distribution, like Debian.
You can run applications that require root, like Screenshot and Auto Rotate your Browser and or any other application.
You can install the latest Android build directly from the Android source tree.
Customize your boot image.
Install Applications to your SD Card to save space.
Use your phone as a tether to connect your computer/laptop to the internet.
Turn your phone into a wireless router that provides internet access.
And from the cyan stable changelog because I really hope you didn't install the experimental build right after rooting for the first time. All of this is an improvement on a stock phone.

Just waiting on GridLock to chime in.

download load it and put it on your memory card. It's a googd idea to wipe if you're going from experimental (based on donut 1.6) to stable (based on cupcake 1.5). If you have cyanogen's 1.4 recovery choose "flash any zip" select the ROM and flash. If you're not using that recovery, name it update.zip and flash it.

download the .apk files from whatever source you want.
get Appsinstaller from the market
plug the phone into your PC
mount the sd card
copy the .apk files to the sdcard (i use a folder called apps on my sdcard)
unmount sdcard
run appsinstaller
it will give you a list of all the .apk fills it found on your sdcard.
tap one to install it

[AUDIO FILES] Have a very OGG-y AudioResources.zip (EDITED 2:11pm)

IF I'M USING YOUR RESOURCES.ZIP, LET ME KNOW SO I CAN CREDIT YOU!
I didn't see anyone having done this before on a search, and I apologize if it's been done already. I put together all the audio resources I could find for ringtones, alarms, notifications, and ui, converted them all to very small .ogg's and put them in a new zip. It's a little over 9 megs and has a LOT of stuff. Enjoy.
Oh, and if you have more to add, post them. I'll convert them it and add it to the zip
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
1. Unzip
2. IF you are using a media2sd script, put the media folder on your ext partition. If not, use it to replace the one on your phone. I recommend using adb, or just mounting the thing in linux. It'll make it simpler.
3. REBOOT and give your phone some time to index all the ringtones. It'll take some time.
AudioResources.zip:
http://www.lighthousesolutions.info/AudioResources.zip
EDIT:
A LOT of people are downloading and nobody is posting additional links, which means (I hope) that I didn't miss any sound files. I'm glad I could help people out, and if anybody else has anything to contribute please POST! Thanks.
Also, I forgot to post this the first time. Themers and rom developers (hell anyone) feel free to use the converted .ogg's in whatever you want. They aren't mine to start with, but I figure I better make the statement clear.
Enjoy

My compilation is on page 3 ~Mikey~
Thanks! Can't have too many random ringtones to choose from I say. Already got the giant mega audio resource list from the other topic that includes all the various android phones, this will just help more.

I think this includes all of those, although if you find some that I'm missing, please post them. The main draw of this is that all of sound files are as tiny as possible, making it so you can fit them on internal memory if you want to, or just use less space. The entire thing is only 9.4 mb, and it includes the ringtones from the hero and magic.
Post any ringtones it doesn't contain so I can squish them down to tiny size too.
I can't find any media2sd scripts on the forum. Can any one point me in the right direction?

You don't have your rom in your sig, so my help will have to be very basic. I run cyanogen's experimental rom (not for the faint of heart) and huanyu's user customizable script. Other than that I can't offer much help. What I can say is that if you push the ENTIRE contents of this zip to your ext partition on your sd card and use huanyu's script with media2sd activated, you'll be fine.
Huanyu also has a version of his script for the stable series of cyanogens roms.
I have NO idea how to do media2sd on hero. I don't support hero as an os and will never use it unless the ENTIRE android community decides to go that route.
If you are using another rom let me know and I'll see what I can do.
I'm currently on Drizzy's newest hero build, but the guts are the same. I went back and did some research and that script is working thanks for the help.

Anybody with any additional tones to be added? I'd really like to beef it up!

Are any of them for a released or soon to be released android phone? I could put together a "legal" and a "questionable" vesion, although the latter might have to be off the forum (hint hint). I'd like to keep the one on here being full of nothing but official android and htc ringtones for released and soon to be released (ie leaked) android devices.
Noob Question...
I'm running CyanogenMod-4.0.4 + Recovery 1.4 and the community hero rom and was wondering how I should go about implementing this audio resources zip. Do i apply the update from the recovery? Or is there some other way of getting them on?
You can push them to /system/media....but I'd recommend using hyanu's userinit.sh script instead. media2sd is FAR superior for the number of sound files were talking about here.
any chance of this being posted elsewhere? Was looking to download this, but the site doesn't seem to exist.
Can't use my host for any more hosting of FREE ringtones

[Mod/Script] MetaMorph, A Theming Project 0.1g(ALPHA)

First of All, I'd like to say a big thanks to the contributors of what your about to get into.
Thanks to Kastro,
Kastro is a developer on this project and did ALOT, and I mean ALOT, of work with this script. He also cross compiled zip, which is the core this project(Originally I had the id to use aapt to do this but we couldnt get it to run on the phone), to work on our phones. So hats off to him.
Thanks to Riku,
Riku has been a big help being our guinea pig and script optimizer. Riku has tested and wiped and flashed and tested things over and over again. He also helped keep the script pretty and optimized.
Thanks to Prash,
Thanks Prash for giving us a theme to work with, he was on board from the start.
Thanks to Ted and Manup,
This guys also loaned their work to us so we could provide examples. We appreciate your talents and skills.
Now, to the Good stuff.
This is an ALPHA release. This means that there will be bugs. We expect there to be bugs....dont use this thinking that there won't be!
MAKE SURE YOU DO A NANDROID BACKUP EVERYTIME YOU FLASH!!!!
And the fun part...
Thanks to Cyanogen for this...
Code:

* thermonuclear war, or the current economic crisis. Please do some
* research if you have any concerns about features included in this MOD

* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, we will laugh at you.

This thread is for a project we have been working on to allow themers and end users a better way to theme our phones, any android phone btw. This method will not only allow for end users to apply updates without having to go into recovery mode, and most of the time without rebooting, but will also allow themers to start making battery packs, icon packs, lockscreen packs, status bar packs, etc. all without disrupting anything but the images and files they want to update.
Along with this project though comes with a few conditions.
1) A new way to do theme update files.
2) new rules concerning these new theme files.
3) almost limitless possibilites
The default Directory for these themes will be stored on the end users SDCARD in the directory AndroidThemes. (For now there is no way to change this, but there will be in the future)
The contents of MetaMorph.zip go into /system/bin. (For now there is no way to change this, but there may be in the future)
Once you put the content there, please cd into /system/bin and chmod mm.sh and zip to 0755, like this:
cd system/bin
su
chmod 0755 mm.sh
chmod 0755 /system/bin/zip
After you've done and put a theme in your AndroidThemes folder, you are ready to go!
Now open terminal and type:
mm.sh
to get started.
The rest is pretty self explanatory.
To theme DEVS( and users), I have videos uploaded which will go over the specifics of the new theme.zip, please watch this! Very VERY important, so important, I wont tell you how to make one here because you need to watch the videos!

Update: Added some more error detection for the theme control file. Also moved the location where we put the script. Move the script and zip file to /system/bin. chmod 0755 both the mm.sh and .zip. Now you can run it anywhere just by typing mm.sh -i.

# REGARDING NON-apps2sd USERS:
there isn't anything except two files going to be in that directory, so you should still be ok, make sure you mount your FS read-write before putting the files on your system partition:
Code:
adb remount
adb push file-to-push.ext /system/sd/theming/file-to-push.ext

this is not quite ready I think for theming third party apps, though I'm sure its entirely doable, remember its ALPHA!
also, the only things in /system/sd/theming are two files,
so you shouldn't have to worry about it, though again, its not quite ready for changing, I would suggest creating that folder
For now it wont, but as I said, in the future we will have this fixed. We allready though of this. Magics cant be rooted and use apps 2 sd?
Or are you referring to no keyboard?
Does the on-screen keyboard work in terminal?

pretty much this will work with any rom, however, I personally would recommend "right theme, for the right rom" as a few roms (like blur, hero, etc) have a different image setup, ALTHOUGH. this will most likely work, but thats why its an alpha release, so that we can test this fact. PLEASE nandroid before use

This could be my end all solution to maintaining all the NFL themes, and make it way easier to manage the NBA and NHL.
Following this, I could essentially issue 1 update.zip for a color set (says like Blue/Red for Giants, Patriots, Texans, Rangers, Pistons etc..) and then use the packs to have all the icons, clocks and etc. which would save me from flashing things over and over to test.

CFH [Wildfire] v1.0 - Newb rom

Hi
I had the day off, and decided to have a play with the Kitchen to see what I could come up with. After following the instructions on theunlockr.com I decided to base my rom on the OpenFire v.2.3 rom. Any issues that rom had, mine will have.
I have added a few things and changed a couple of things, but in the end, this is my first rom for a device I do not have myself. I have an HTC Desire, but noticed that the Wildfire isn't getting as much love, hence that choice. I hope to get a better understanding of what it takes to make a proper custom rom at some time in the future.
Removed:
Launcher2
Added:
Launcher Pro
Titanium Backup
Rom Manager
Fancy Widget
From the OpenFire v.2.3 post:
NO HTC APPS DO NOT WORK ON THIS ROM AND I WONT TRY TO PORT THEM (but if you try and suceed please tell me and I will maybe include them!)
This ROM is from the android source there is no HTC apps or extra apps from the start it do come with spareparts and dev tools from android source. At the moment it seems a bit slow I think that is due to animations, animations can be turned of in spareparts or in the settings menu.
Features:
- Froyo aosp 2.2.1
- Root + superuser app
- Busybox
- No htc apps!
- Some google apps
- Multi language
- Darktremor Apps2SD
- Patched market
- Usb & WIFI-thetering
- JIT
- 3 in 1 reboot menu
- It may make your phone explode! (You have been warned)
Bugs / Not working:
- Video recording working (but, bad quality)
- Cant import contacts from SIM ? no read/write acess to SIM ? (can anyone confirm or deny this?)
TODO:
- Get rid of above bugs
- HTC-camera (maybe)
Thanks to:
HCDR.Jacob - for the kernel and vendor
Yopsi - for sharing package with google apps.
danne_jo - for APN stuff, and for hosting to my ROM
Sympnotic - For his patched market app
AnantK123 - For pointing out a fix for the camera app
acavella - For hosting / making a homepage dedicated just for OpenFire
Notes:
NO HTC APPS DO NOT WORK ON THIS ROM AND I WONT TRY TO PORT THEM (but if you try and suceed please tell me and I will maybe include them!)
To get app2sd to work you need an ext partition when you have that you might have todo a full wipe and reflash the ROM to get app2sd to work
When you boot up first time choose "com.android.provision"
Anything you want to know about OpenFire can be found at the OpenFire website.

What did you change? We don't need roms like those. Everyone can customize his installed rom like he wants.
Why don't you stick to a phone you have and help projects that just need help instead of reinventing the wheel over and over again?
no offense, just my personal oppinion

None taken.
I've had my desire for a while, and decided to root it about a month ago. I have now installed a custom rom, and I'm enjoying the fiddling around. I don't have too much knowledge, apart from experiences gained in the last week or so.
I tried talking a colleague into installing a custom rom, but he said there weren't too many for the Wildfire, so I said I'd have a play. I'm treating it as a learning curve, as I've always been interested in programming, but never really had the time. I have created a (very) small program for the Mac, and have written a few batch files but thats as far as I've taken it.
In an afternoon I've set up a Linux VM, installed all the needed software and had a play to see what I can realistically do. I see this as a first step. I'm trying to talk the wife into a Wildfire so I can have one to play with!
If the consensus is I should delete the thread, then so be it.

ok folks im hoping people can test this for me,
just built a new build (my first for the adam) based on the newest official 2.2 build but with some interesting tweaks
NOTE: i am a dev working for NI especially on honeycomb soon, but these roms are my own.
changelog:
New Kernel with NTFS support, android does not mount this by default but you can mount it via adb read only. (kernel has rw support but i couldnt get it to mount a ext drive rw)
Kernel has few other tweaks and changes and doesn seem to die when sleeping either now
performance tweaks (minor ones) made to the os itself
full google apps added (untested )
ability to disable ril/phone features to conserve battery (see below for info)
adhoc wifi courtesy of the update posted on this site previously
disabled some of the logspam that was enabled but isnt needed
boot.img is first stage prepped for honeycomb
install instructions
download the file linked below and copy to either sd or your adams internal memory and flash as normal
download:
Code:
Please refer to original post linked above for download link
RIL Disabling Information
ok this is a creative feature. all adams be them 3g or wifi only versions keep thje phone related applications and services running in the background and on the wifi only adams this causes a higher battery drain due to system constantly trying to connect to a network, i have implemented a way to disable this by setting a simple property in the system
to do this you need to edit the /system/build.prop file and change the mentioned line to 1 instead of 0 then reboot
if that doesn work then try the below route

I am amazed by the lack of discussion about this. I wonder if this Stephen fella can let that kernel out...

It is probably because there aren't very many Adam users yet.

Yeah I think there are very very few adam owners out in the wild. Might be a decent bump after this next delivery round next week.
And NI has not officially released their kernel source and from my discussions with them I wouldn't expect it real soon. I did however explain to them that it will have to be eventually so I think they might be working on it.

They don't seem so keen on sharing huh? Interesting since they like to use other people's open source code...
Guess I will have to join in and start hounding them about it.

I second that. Am a fervent flasher (the right kind....) and when I get my Adam I will certainly be putting my own 2 cents in to get the most out of it, both OS and UI wise.
I am not alone, so definitely expect a flury of activity by Adam enthousiasts once the next 2 batches are delivered.

You guys are lucky to have djsteve as your new Dev. He's put in a lot of work for the Dell Streak since it first came out and he will probably put in a lot of work for the Adam ink as well.

Update: 10/03/2011:
UPDATE: 10/03/2011:
time for another update
changelog:
reverted vold change as it screws up things
added some more perf tweaks,
added data2ext script from gtab forum on xda, seems to work nicely, can hit quadrant scores of ~3200 now
flash you will need to install yourself at moment, i forgot to readd it link for flash : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpos ... stcount=26
Code:
refer to original thread/forum for download links
enjoy folks and if anyone wants to do another video feel free.
---------------
UPDATE: 17/02/2011:
ok have tweaked a bit more and made a few more changes.
changelog:
new vold added with ntfs mount support (see below for some issues known with this)
flash player added and should auto install
fixed market and facebook
fixed superuser ability
added estrongs file manger for root use
tweaked the ril scripts to be easier to use.
added modified nvrm_daemon to increase 2d framerate
Code:
refer to original thread/forum for download links
*note for VOLD, this now mounts ntfs drives read only, but it has slightly screwed up the mounts, if you power up device with no microsd plugged in it will mount the internal storage and allow access to is via usb, if you plug in a microsd or boot with one in it will mount both internal and external sds but share the external over usb, it quite happily detects and mounts my 1tb usb hdd which is ntfs formatted though now.
ril tweaks: now all you need to do is create a empty file on your memory card called riloff.txt then reboot and script should do the rest to reenable rename the file rilon.txt and reboot
enjoy folks and if anyone wants to do another video feel free.
-----------------------
ok folks im hoping people can test this for me,
just built a new build (my first for the adam) based on the newest official 2.2 build but with some interesting tweaks
Code:
refer to original thread/forum for download links
RIL Disabling Information
ok this is a creative feature. all adams be them 3g or wifi only versions keep thje phone related applications and services running in the background and on the wifi only adams this causes a higher battery drain due to system constantly trying to connect to a network, i have implemented a way to disable this by setting a simple property in the system
to do this you need to edit the /system/build.prop file and change the mentioned line to 1 instead of 0 then reboot
if that doesn work then try the below route
open a terminal and run the following command then reboot
Code:
setprop persist.ril-off 1

FAQ:Q: What was the difference between the standard and enhanced versions of Liberation?
A: In simple terms, Liberation Enhanced was deodexed, while the standard version was not. However, since the Gingerbread update, HTC has deodexed the /system/app folder, but has left framework odexed. I've decided to just deodex everything instead of having two separate versions with minimal differences in available storage, but vast differences in customization.
Q: Why is the Android Market outdated!?
A: If I insert the latest market, it won't update on its own, meaning more work for you. The version of the market I'm using is outdated, but auto updates. It will update in the background the first time that you run it, and should be updated within 2-5 minutes depending on your connection. You'll need to exit and re-launch the Market for the update to take effect.
Q: Some of my Google Apps (such as Gmail) are an old version, but don't show up on the Market as installed or needing an update. How do I fix this?
A: This is a bug or "feature" of the stock ROM, I'm not sure which. However, it as a very easy fix. Simply open Gmail from the Android Market. From there, scroll down to "Developer Info" and select "View Applications." This will display all of Google's apps in the market. Scroll down and update every app that shows as needing an update (they'll all display correctly from here). You may also want to disable automatic updates from here.
Q: Why isn't <insert app here> removed, I consider it to be bloat!
A: HTC did their best to put together an experience utilizing their Sense software. I left that intact as every user will get something out of it. Some use Friend Stream. Some use only Facebook/Twitter/Flickr. There is no perfect combination as every user wants something different. My goal was to present a stock experience without the carrier bloat. There are ways for you to remove unwanted apps yourself if you'd like.
Q: Why aren't there any screen shots?
A: It's a stock ROM. I've done nothing to differentiate this ROM in appearance from what your carrier/OEM ships.
How to customize Liberation BEFORE you flash:
Materials
Windows - 7-ZIP
Linux - nothing
Mac OS X - nothing (note, I have not done this on Mac OS X, so I cannot support this OS)
Steps
Download the above mentioned file(s) for Windows. You can use a different archive manager if you'd like, but my guide is based on using 7-ZIP.
On your desktop, create a folder named "Test." You can name it whatever you want, but I'll be referring to it as "Test" in this guide. If you are new at this, you need to follow the guide to the letter.
Find your downloaded ROM and extract it to the Test folder. The easiest way to do this on Windows is to open the ROM, highlight all of the folders/files (CTRL-A), copy (CTRL-C), then open the Test folder and paste (CTRL-V). Give it a minute to extract the contents.
Once you complete step three, modify the ROM to your hearts content (see details below). Once complete, proceed to step five.
Open the Test folder and highlight everything (CTRL-A). Right click and select "Add to Archive." This will open 7-ZIP's archive manager. On Linux or Mac OS X, just right-click (or equivalent) and select "Compress."
In the options menu that comes up, leave everything at default except the following. The filename should be Test.zip (change Test to whatever you want). Archive format should be zip. Compression level should be ultra. That's it.
Once done, you can copy this zip to your SD card and flash as normal. Keep in mind that I am not responsible for any changes that you made in this ROM, so make sure you Nandroid BEFORE you flash.
Specific Modifications (using the above instructions):
Ringtones - While the ROM is unzipped, open the test folder and look for /system/media/audio. Within this folder you'll see several more folders (Ringtones, Alarms, Notifications). Any should files you put here will show up in the system when you go to change your ringtone (or whatever corresponds to the folder). The benefits to this modification include; no storage space used up in internal, phone, or SD storage; ringtone works even if SD is USB mounted, no errors when the SD card corrupts or is in use. The ringtones (alarms/notifications) are stored in a partition that does NOT count towards your file storage
Replacement "stock" applications - If you use a differnent web browser (like Dolphin HD or Firefox), or a different SMS/MMS program (like Handcent or Chomp), then it is recommended that you remove the stock applications before flashing. This prevents conflicts, slowdown, memory usage, and the annoying popup where you have to constantly re-choose your default application. In these examples, you are looking for /system/app/browser.apk and mms.apk.
Add/Remove apps you don't want - Navigate to /system/app, and remove any APK files that you don't want. If you don't know what app it is, do NOT remove it
Modify Bootup Animation/Sound - Navigate to the /system/customize/resource/ folder. In there, you will see two files; VZW_bootanimation.zip an VZW_Droid.mp3. These files are the bootup animation and "Droid" noise. Simply delete the MP3 if you want a silent bootup. It really is that easy. Replace the ZIP File with another zipped animation (must give it the same name) to replace the animation with one of your own. NOTE: Make sure you verify compatibility. If unsure, don't do it.
Files needed for UOT Kitchen:
Download - framework-res.apk
Download - com.htc.resource.apk
Download - SystemUI.apk
The above files are needed for the UOT Kitchen. Ask questions in this thread if don't know how to use them. UOT Kitchen allows you to change visual elements of your phone's stock interface in a way that no launcher app ever could.
jaykresge, you gonna get anything going with this gingersense leak?
Why is this based off the November OTA? Use the new gingerbread leak!!

Need to have the stable release out before the test/beta releases
This seems like a cool idea. Looking forward to the download links.

I agree.
I would love to see a ROM of yours based off of the Gingerbread Leak.
Nothing Special is the fastest and most stable ROM out. Hands Down.
I use it as my Daily Driver in a business setting and its perfect.

Liberation is uploading right now, should be available in a few minutes. Enhanced is still cooking, might be another 30 minutes or so. As for the "cool idea," this is actually just a renamed update to an existing ROM. See below.

I'm cooking Liberation Enhanced right now, then I'll immediately start playing with the leak. We've seen a few developers upload flashable versions already. I can't commit that I'll release anything on this leak at this point. Let me play with it some and then I'll comment on it.
Both 1.0 ROMs are up based on the November OTA. Currently toying with the leak, will update.
Re-cooking then uploading the beta for 2.00 based on today's Gingerbread leak. Use at your own risk.
I agree with tincbtrar.
Liberation Enhanced v2.00 BETA, based on today's Gingerbread leak, is now up. Use at your own risk.

Downloading now, Thanks.
I'm liking some of the changes. Reboot time (after initial flash) is insanely fast. HTC Car Panel now works in both portrait/landscape, however, most other apps still don't. Feels smoother than 2.2 (and I just did clean flashes of all of my ROMs, it's definitely smoother).
Let me know what you think, but so far, feels good for a beta. I'll make it my daily driver for the next few days and see what happens.
Downloading the beta now. Already a few out there, but I know you put out good work, and it's the slimmest so far. Fingers crossed, already put the new radio on. This is great! Long live the Incredible!
Will definatly give this a try when I get home.
Only thing that stinks is the cool mods (Pulldown Toggles, EVO Camera, ETC) wont work with the beta correct? Those pulldown toggles are amazing for me (Flashlight, Bluetooth and Sounds - especially)
Once that gets sorted out Ill be using your beta. Until then maybe ill flash Liberation for fun.
Great work sir.
Is 2.0 deodexed?

Just an FYI, it works fine with the existing radio. I won't be pushing users to update radio/hboot/etc. until the official release comes out.

I'm going to work on getting an Evo camera working for it. As for flashing Liberation, it's just Nothing Special under a new name (and the minor change of Car Home switched for Car Panel). All of the mods you used on NS will work here
