BSODroid is my first Android application. It is a proof of concept implementation of a flaw in Windows Vista, which is so far unpatched (although Microsoft are due to start distributing the patch any moment now), that allows a user to send a Blue Screen of Death to that computer over the network.
Main thread in Development section, but I just thought I'd post it here as I know that most Android users seem to check this section for Android applications, rather than the Development section!

43 downloads and no comments? Anyone out there having some fun with this?
ohhh yea i tried it at few test machines yesterday, it worked both on vista and windows 7RC. Not sure abt windows 7RTM but i think it also works on certain windows 2008 servers. Microsoft whats going onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
They dont have a patch available yet, but they do provide a workaround a registry hack that wont let BSoD comeup.
I d like to know more abt it whats the process here if you dont mind
Didn't work on my Win 7 RTM but thanks for the app.
Does this app can damage the computer / hard disk who gets the BSOD ??
Thanks for tour creation
It's great job.

You mean Win 7 RC
Have almost broken 1000 downloads! (Currently at 950)
If anyone's interested, go ahead and give it a try from the market!
Does it harm your PC or just gives you the bsod?
I want to know if it actually harms the comp as well. If its just a temp thing that doesn't actually do some serious damage this could be pretty fun!
Oh look, somebody found a way to be an Internet Griefer in real life.
Congrats.
Maybe instead of making this harassment app, you should've just reported the flaw to Microsoft through their developer feedback areas?

You don't need working drivers for that video - it's Liverpool - they always play in slow motion anyway so no problems with camera lag

LOL !!!
Nice
Interestingly that endgadget article has a post that this phone does not actually run Windows Mobile... but some sort of rip-off.
Other sites that sell the device don't state WM6 (or any version) on their features list.
Does M$ charge alot for putting WM on a device? If so that could be one reason for the low price.
Plus it only has a 30 day warranty, I believe the tilt has a 1 year(?)
More here

Uses "some sort of Windows Mobile operating system". The real one is already a buggy mess, go figure that one...LOL
I bet it will perform better than the Kaiser, and I'm not kidding (sadly).
It will probably perform better than the Kaiser because it is using a basic OS that is more like a calculator than a Windows Mobile.
So, it probably boots up in 5 seconds, switches apps in a fraction.
But it also probably doesn't have TouchFlo, PIE, or many of the other features that make the Kaiser/Tilt nice.
It is like any of the other numerous phones out there on the market (like from Verizon) that have a slide out keyboard with a proprietary OS.
This of course is assuming the statements above about it not being WM6 are true. If it indeed runs WM6 then I am sure the performance will be equivalent to the Kaiser.
Hello,
How would you rate this user interface?

I have tried this launcher which seems to have the new Windows Mobile 7 designe combined with CrossMediaBar-Icons and Sliding Panel. It works well on Classic and Professional devices (5.0 - 6.1) - tried it on my Touch Diamond and works fine. There is also a QVGA version available.
You can download a trial version here:

Looking forward to your replies.
lordbein
please
whear qvga i wan't to try
tried it and I expected a little more but it's good though.
I'll be amazed if Windows 7 looks like that - that GUI is based on very very early leaked shots that I suspect will end up being windows 6.5.
Microsoft is going to have to go back to the drawing board or WM will become the Palm OS of the modern mobile OSes...
I think it's a bit heavy in my Wizard... Too bad PointUI 2.0 is not yet available...

same problem for me
I have it installed (using King's Legend 1.0), but it's not doing anything. I open the app, it shows a big button that says "Launch", I click it, and then I get a black screen (top bar is still there)
This is an EARLY beta of Fennec and it was designed for the Droid/Nexus. Chances are, it isnt gonna work right with the G1.

Please note that I said it is an EARLY BETA. Actually, it's the FIRST BETA. It's going to have problems on any device, much less a device it wasnt designed to support, like the G1.
the guy said it requires android 2.0 or higher.
As I read things, it is actually an UNOFFICIAL beta built from the dev repos.
The official betas will be distributed from mozilla's website, just as the n900 betas are.
Its also a ~40mb app. My thoughts are its running itself virtually for now. But that could be one stupid theory...
The alpha is out for Android 2.0 users. Only 10M this time

Security is an important aspect of anything that gets used by anyone, at any given moment around the world. For developers of applications that get purchased through a digital storefront, like Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Marketplace, making sure that it’s not easy, next to impossible in fact, to steal apps and put them on a device free-of-charge is just as important. But, as WPCentral reports, it looks like the Digital Rights Management (DRM) security tools set in place by Microsoft have been cracked!

Fortunately, though, the program that is being used to do so is not known to the general public. In point of fact, the “white hat” developer that created it is just showing it as a proof of concept. If the program were to make it out into the world, then it would be possible for some people out there to strip the DRM from applications available in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace, and then download them for free.
As of the time of this writing, Microsoft hasn’t made an official comment regarding the security hole. WPCentral has been in contact with Brandon Watson from Microsoft, but so far they have not heard back from him. The video demonstrating the proof of concept program making short work of DRM for the Windows Phone 7 applications can be viewed below.

I hope they fix this security hole soon. I'm not even a developer and I see this as a really big problem for the WP7 platform. I'm sure iPhone and Android developers do not have to be as worried about pirating only because the volume of paying customers is so much higher. With a much smaller customer base, anything that would discourage a WP7 developer from developing for the platform is bad for WP7.
Note: Shouldn't this be posted in the WP7 General forum? It has nothing to do with HD7.
is this video realy evidense that this is working?
Need to find the latest news in software? Here's the place to look. Want to be the first to leak information about the new Android? Post it here. Everyone sees software news in their own device's forums but why not post it here for everyone to see?. What's the point of going all over the place to find the most recent software news when you can find it here?
Yes, the XDA portal is a great source for software news but all the information is dependent on what gets approved by XDA staff. Here, you have free reign to post the software related news that matters to you.
And before it's said...yes, there is already a forum for computer and laptop discussion, but it seems to be geared towards the hardware side. This thread is specifically for software news. And I've already checked with Archer so everything is copacetic (no need for ib4l ). Oh, and be sure to post links or it didn't happen.
So, without further ado...
Stop-gap' way to get Linux on Windows 8 machines to be issued
Penguins are playing ball with a Windows 8 Linux-blocking security mechanism to keep their favorite operating system on PCs…
The Foundation plans to obtain a Microsoft key to sign a pre-bootloader from core Linux kernel maintainer James Bottomley. Together, the key and pre-bootloader will allow users to start up and run Linux as an authorised piece of software on Windows 8 PCs –*it would otherwise have been barred by the machine as potential malware.

Flip this app: Secondary mobile app market quietly taking off
App creators without the time or inclination to service or monetize their apps can simply sell them off for a flat, up-front sum of money. Buyers can then either tweak them as they like or not, and either attempt to monetize them themselves or re-sell the apps to still another party.
