ok i have no idea what happened. my nandroid backup used to work just fine. but now it doesnt work anymore. i dont know why. all i does is make a backup that will take upwhatever space is left on my sdcard, and keep those dots going an going and going. they dont stop unless i stop it. i hadnt installed anything new like a rom since the last backup i did, so i dont know whats wrong. i also cant make those normal backups. like when you use backup for root users. that just gives me the same thing. i dont know what to do and i dont wanna wipe or really do anything, because i DONT have any backups! please help
Try re flashing cyan's recovery
tried that already. i tried that, tried taking out the battery, tried waiting. one thing i did was i took out my card and put in another one. still didnt work. but when i put my other card back in it worked. now the problem is when i boot my phone all my apps keep force closing. im guessing it might have something to do with the fact that the other card i had put in wasnt partitioned for app2sd. and i let the phone boot with it. now i have a nandroid backup, but my apps keep force closing. someone suggested i should wipe. which i did. but now i dont know if i should just reboot the phone or if i restore the backup now will it bring my settings back after the wipe?
flash ur back up. reboot if u stil get fc. fix the permissions in the recovery terminal. if that fails wipe the g1 and sd repartition it and tart over from there.
tried what you said and its still force closing. i cant access anything really because i had a home alternative, so it keeps saying open home is force closing. so im thinking if i have to fix permissions i have to do it in recovery? but i dont know how =/
yes go into the the console in recovery and just type
Code:
fix_permissions
wait a bit and when its done type reboot
it didnt work.

well i have had cyogenmod 3.6.8.1 for awhile and everything works perfectly and smoothly but i just turned off my phone to switch to my new 2400mah battery and when i turned it back on i got past the splash screen but now its stuck at the android boot loop so i thought wait acouple minutes...and well.. no luck. i dont get it...any ideas?
try fixing the ext file system. It could have been messed up if you just took the battery out. If that doesnt work, try wiping and reflashing the ROM. Btw, does it work with the normal battery in?
wipe
if you can get into recovery then u know everything is fine. if u can get the update file for the rom on ur sd then wipe and flash it see wht happens then
Usually these problems can be taken care of with a wipe and a reflash of the ROM. Hopefully you performed a nandroid backup and can restore your settings. If not, there is really no other way but to wipe and reflash and lose your data.

well i shut the phone down properly but i tried what you said anyways... and on the first try it had an error and told me to run it manually..but i tried again and it worked so i rebooted but still no luck. i did a nandroid backup recently...could that possibly have anything to do with it?
and also...when i did the nandroid awhile ago...it got stuck at the boot loop as well...so i did the wipe/update and it worked. and now i turned off my phone for the battery change and this happens....it seems like maybe its something with the rom? idk...i dont see why a nandroid would mess anything up
i suggest to wipe and reflash. That should fix it.

Set up ADB using the guide in the sticky, and connect your phone through USB
type
Code:
adb logcat
as you boot your phone
see if anything is repeating. if nothing ever shows up, its possible that the battery could be defective

try this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=535797&highlight=wipe+ext
But after you install cyans recovery image (or if you already have it installed)
* FSCK for ext filesystems from the menu
if that doesnt work then wipe
http://tinypic.com/r/9u7q15/4
This is what's going on with my phone.
Downgrade to rc-29,
Use JF's guide to activate over wifi,
Root, flash the hard spl,
Then the radio (2.22.19.26I),
Then flashed cm-4.0.4,
Then partitioned your sdcard to 1.5gb fat32, 500mb ext3,
Then tried to do a nandroid restore of 4.1.11.1 that had been past the sign in screen,
Then removed the ext3 partition from sdcard, and now you are where you are now.
As you can see in the Video
Everytime i try to call, got to contacts, use the market, text i get a error message saying something suchas
The process (process.android.acore) has stopped unexpectedly, or The process (com.android.phone) or other errors similar to these.
When some one calls me it doesnt even acknowledge that, it just send them to voicemail and i'll never know it
I also cant touch the screen ... it isn't responding to touch, and the rotate isn't working anymore either, The Airplane mode comes on by its self
**Note, it was working perfectly fine the touch and everything until i partition the sdcard then a couple hours after i did that the phone seems as it if caught a virus so i don't know what to do i just basically want to use the market, call, & text.. because everything else works btw the touch screen sensor. so if you can help please do, if not i may just unroot it and send it to HTC, if i can't fix it ;/
This has nothing to do with development. Try posting in the correct section.

Best thing to do is wipe it and re-install the ROM.
Turn off your G1.
Turn it on while holding the home button. Wait for the recovery screen to appear.
Press ALT-W (This will wipe your phone's data!)
When it's done wiping, restart the phone, check if it works.
If not, then install the Cyanogen ROM again.

anyone else notice her screen is mirrored? i think it was the video, but it threw me off for a sec... in any case, try wiping and reinstalling rom. if that doesnt work, unroot, go back to factory settings and see if the screen works then. if it does, retry the whole process (rooting) make sure you are using the correct radio and the correct spl. if you still cant figure it out, get an iphone
Don't make movies with a mirror..
could be a hardware problem? doubt it though
Sorry to everyone in advance, I am new to this. I rooted me sprint hero, flashed a new recovery image, and flashed a new ROM. I don't know what I did, but now everytime I try to boot, my phone freezes. Is there anything that I can do to fix this? I should also tell you that, somehow everything that was on my sd card got wiped off.
Thanks.
Did you try wiping first? You might just try wiping the reinstalling the ROM. Fixes a lot of these kinds of hangups. Hold down home when booting and choose wipe all(i cant get to the menu to tell you what the menu says exactly as im on the phone typing this).
What steps did you follow and what ROM did you flash?
Do you have Apps2sd enabled? Mine freezes if I set it to an ext3 or 4 partition, Hero kenerel doesn't support those file systems...yet.
EDIT:
I guess I should elaborate on a solution.
Go back into recovery. Chose format SD card. Set SWAP and EXT Parts to 0. Press home to format. Then Format again set swap to whatever, i don't think we use it yet so 0 is fine, set ext2 to 512 or however much you need for your apps. Then press home again to format again.
Reboot. see what happens.
Are you sure it is freezing?
The first boot can take a long time, is it "freezing" on HTC?
Give a little more detail..
Which rom, which recovery? Did you wipe everything, or nothing, etc.
Awesome! Thank you very much. That worked! Again, I'm sorry for my idiocy.
Back Up
You could just go into recovery mode (hold down the home key when you boot), select wipe then I believe it is the first option to factory reset the phone. Itll run its process then inform you upon completion. Then go ahead and start installing the rom over again. What rom are you using anyway?
Things like this happen a lot but I've found that people on here are pretty quick to help out.
Quick tip, back up often. It saves you a lot of headaches.

Damn everyone already beat me to it
I'm using the DamageControl ROM.
im running the latest version of RA recovery image and i have Open Home on my main ROM. everytime i back it up and restore it, it takes FOREVER to start up and when it does, it has the default Cyanogen live wallpaper and its like all stock. i still have my apps but my home screens r not the way i left them. and when i press home, it asks me to choose the launcher: regular launcher or open home and when i choose open home, i get force closes like theres no tomorrow. as soon as i hit the ok button, instantly, the same force close window pops up. and it doesnt stop at all. what could be the issue?
damn no help?
damn still nothing? i thought this community was about helpin each other out :/
well i dont think theres much help anyone can give. its not like we can repair the nandroid backup for you :\ its unfortunate that it doesnt work.
edit: did you wipe before nand restore? you should go back and try that and if it doesnt work i would just wipe it all again and flash a fresh rom. theres nothing more you can do

yea i tried it. well thanks for atleast replying. i guess im jus gonna be stuck on my current desire rom until i can figure out how to do it. thanks tho
This happen to me. But mine wouldn't even load. I had to re flash everything. Now I roll around with at least 2 backups.
This happened to me last night. I had two nandroids from within two days. Phone went crazy and decided to kill itself and revert to default Cyanogen.
Neither of the two nandroids would restore properly. I have no idea what did it. It was either a glitch in 5.0.7 t2 or the AndAppstore I downloaded.
I'm using 1.62 RA Recovery.
Dude take it easy. We are about helping each other, but some of us have things that occupy our time.
So what you need to do is get ADB set up, then run the following commands with your phone in the bootloader:
Code:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase boot
This will nuke the three partitions. Next, you need to copy the *.img files from your "nandroid" folder to the "tools" folder of the SDK and do:
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
This is what a nandroid restore does automatically anyway, but as this is your last ditch attempt, give it a go.
I installed "Battery Icon Mod v1.01", applied the mod, restarted, and I do see the AT&T screen, then I see the Galaxy moving screen, and after, I see the black screen, and nothing else, and I feel the phone vibrates (almost the same way, when the program crashes). I need to get back on the phone somehow, without restarting from scratch. Any way without loosing all of it?
Can you get into recovery with battery pull and up + down volume + power?
If so try reflashing or flashing a different battery mod and see if it works
VOL UP+VOL DWN+PWR does not work when battery is out.
VOL UP+VOL DWN+PWR works when battey is in
and i get the following choices
reboot system now
reinstall package
delete all user data
delete cache data
format internal sd-card

Looks like youre running stock recovery which = stock ROM. How did it even flash without failing verification? (not asking you, whoever else)
IMO you're hosed and need to odin back to completely stock (everything is lost) Unless someone else can think of a way to fix system files with stock recovery
I did flashed my phone with froyo 2.2 when I got the phone, and it was back in September or something. It was also rooted, so maybe that why it allowed to mod? I'm not too good with the phones and stuff, as i am more of a computer IT.

If you're really in IT you'd know that information is key to solving any problem. Stock 2.2 or a custom 2.2 ROM?
What I was trying to say, is I am not good with phones, and phone software and stuff
If you had usb debugging checked , you can use adb to push your original framework back to the phone. If you did a backup you can just install the backup. Otherwise your only recourse is to reflash the rom.
no i dont have any back and stuff. is there anyway to get the SMS? or my MEMO's?
You can flash a rom through odin...does not have to be stock...it will not wipe the info you have saved on your internal sd or external. if you sync your contacts with google gmail it will return all your contacts.
With that said, you will lose any programs you downloaded and installed unless you have them backed up (titianium back-up, etc).
It's not the end of the world, your phone will live again...
Just a thought...why not take this opportunity to flash one of the excellent custom roms in the development section?
This is why you will be backing up from now on...if no adb debugging then i dont this you can do adb pull or anything so .just flash another rom bud.we all make mistakes .yours isnt too big of a mistake tho. Sorry
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
as long as I can keep my data, I'm not worried about loosing my applications, I can always reinstall them. I remember I tried to flash Froyo 2.2, and it took me forever to get it done. Could someone point me to a good ROM (preferably 1.2OC) where I can keep all my data.
Nope. You're pretty much out if luck with no backup. If you were on stock 2.2 then the reason you're in a bootloop is because you tried to install a mod to your framework that only works in deoxed roms.

what is this means then?
i guess the solution is to clear cache and factory reset ...
but u will loose ur data....
No roms will delete your internal SD card unless you do a master clear. Without pushing your framework back and having no backup all your data (SMS, memos, call logs) is gone. No way around it. Flashing with Odin still deletes your user data.
can somebody point me to the best 1.2GHz rom?
That's in the kernel. Which can be swapped out on any rom, I believe there is one for stock froyo.
Im kinda confused, I've been googling and searching this thread, and not sure what I have to do next. How do I began from scratch? What do I need to install the very first image? Where do I get it? I keep on searching all the threads this forum has, but its so much stuff here, that I get really confused.
