Anyone else having GPS problems? - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

My GPS worked fine all day, but when the phone was sitting on my desk running Google Maps (I get a pretty good GPS reception through a Velux window), I noticed my location rapidly heading off south of France. At that point the phone dropped the signal, and I haven't been able to get a lock since.
GPS Status is only showing the one satellite lock, Google Maps can't get a position fix either. Tried restarting the phone, and have run out of ideas. Just about to try the TomTom to see if it can get a lock here...

From what you're describing, with no software able to get a lock, could be a hardware failure. Try logging a support call with HTC.

Hi Rob,
Just an update to this - I checked the NOTAMs and it turns out the military was conducting GPS jamming trials. The GPS received worked fine the next morning.
Kind regards,
Dave.

Tilt GPS sometimes does not receive satellites

Using IGO (legal).
This happens with the new standard AT&T ROM, and with the previous one as well.
IGO starts and quickly obtains satellites, then every now and then, without any obvious reason, I get a verbal warning that no satellites are found, and the GPS icon turns red.
After a few seconds, or even a couple of minutes, GPS signal is restored.
The Tilt is positioned near the windshield, and the problem does not occur in "urban canyons".
I don't have any other GPS app with maps that I can use to check this.
I'd appreciate any ideas.
Thank you.
You could try a free app like Microsoft Live Search or Google Maps to check against IGO. I haven't really noticed mine dropping signal unless I do go into a real canyon or something like that. One thing - when the phone goes into Standby, the GPS chip turns off for battery conservation. Is it possible that your phone is going into standby when you lose signal?
mine does the same after update to the new att rom, and honestly, i dont have an answer for you.
Live search cannot ever find any satalites, which is why I have resorted to using Google Maps. It works fine for me. So try using google maps. its works much faster and more reliable in finding sats, imo.
try a different radio. it has been reported that it works for some.
replies
snooginsguy: No, it always happens when navigating.
grandpareza: not sur ethere are googlemaps for my country (at least not with any reasonable resolution). Will check later.
P1Tater: Replacing the radio requires HardSPL, which I haven't sone yet. As I said, I'm still with the original ROM. I live abroad, so there's no issue with warranty. It's just that I'm concerned I might brick my device.
i heard that you have to update with quick gps everytime before you use your actuall gps... that would improve the sat tracking a lot better
It's on auto update
So that's not the issue.

G1 GPS

Hi, i had problems with my GPS, i had enabled the two option avaliable in the location settings. However i am able to find my location using the cell tower, but my gps sign just keeps on flashing and it was not able to lock to satellites. May i know if it is hardware issues or software?
I am able to lock to satellites before, however now it takes forever. Thank You.
Are you trying outside? It's difficult to get a signal inside.
"GPS Status" free from the market shows you some good data, like how many birds it can see.
BTW "flashing", the icon itself is appearing and disappearing or the icon is animating? Also what ROM are you on and in which application(s) are you trying.
This may not help that much but I damaged my long coax to the gps chip while I changed my housing. Since then it acts the same as you described, so you could be experiencing a hardware issue. The parts for the gps can be found online for about $40 if you determine its a hardware issue.

Hi, i am on KB7SQI's Rogers Mod 2.3, hmm i did tried it outdoor before and it refuses to lock on to the satellite. The icon of the gps will come on and off, it does not stay fixed, i have also tried on Google Maps App. It cannot detemine my location. Locking onto the satellite should take a few seconds, however mine took forever.
I am hoping it is not a hardware issue, importing parts would be very very expensive for me. I believe if it is a hardware issue, the icon will not even appear. Is there anyway i could test out whether my gps chip is working? Thank You.

[Q] My GPS hasn't worked since updating to 2.2 - help! - RESOLVED

Hi,
I got a Samsung Galaxy S here in Australia, rooted it and upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 I know that GPS worked just fine with 2.1, I was able to walk home and see my position updating very nicely on Google maps
Since updating to 2.2, GPS hasn't worked at all. When I turn it on, and start an application that uses GPS (Navigation, Maps, etc), the GPS icon sits there and flashes back and forth between those two types of icons and I don't get anything on the maps which shows me where I am. I haven't chased this up since upgrading, but it's starting to bug me now
After searching these forums for 'gps not working', I've pulled down the 'GPS test' application and I don't know for sure, but it appears to find one satellite:
PRN SNR Elev Azim Flags
2 11.0 74.0 150.0
But the GPS icon just sits there flashing back and forth.
I may have missed something since upgrading, do I need to do something to the phone to get my GPS working again?
Thanks!
OK, I seem to have fixed the problem I turned on "Use wireless networks" and voila! I now have successful GPS lock and position in my maps
I would have thought that you could use GPS without having "Use wireless networks" turned on!?

Wouldn't call it a successful GPS lock. Since you got it with the mobile networks. (in my case when I use it . the accuracy in my village is about 1000-1500m since the BTS is that much far from me )
So if you get into an area with weak mobile networks, wont help you much .
Wouldnt call this as resolved with "BAD GPS" cuz your GPS still sucks as before (and doesnt work , you just found a workaround that was there also before , 2.2.1 has even some other function for GPS that tries to fix it (or help?) )
But since you can use it now, its ok I guess . OH and there are kinda almost no real fixes for this. Most of SGS GPS suck . There is GPS aids, shutting down wifi, GPS status app, changing the something according to your country.
Ok!
I got the same problem as the user from the post.
GPS worked like a charm on my Galaxy S (NDrive or Google) running 2.1.
I updated it to Froyo 2.2.1 JS7 and since then it doesn`t work anymore.
I can't get a fix.
I did the GPS position test and It locks on 8 satelites. Why the F%CK it doesn`t work anymore?
I am almost going back to Eclair.
Any sugestions?
TY!
So you get a lock when doing the GPS test, but no luck in any other applications? I couldn't get a lock at all until I turned on my wireless as well as the GPS, then it worked for GPS test as well as applications...
I get a lock on 8 satelites on the Location Test with and without "Use Wireless connections".
BUT
I can't get a lock when I am using Google maps, with or without "Use Wireless connections".
I bought the AIDS GPS app on Market, but it did't work neither.

I also installed GPS Aids and paid for it.
This program does automatic changes to your GPS settings.
Maybe it works for you.

[Q] GPS sometimes cannot lock on satellite

Hi,
I'm a new user here, I have read some here before when I wanted to update my old HTC Desire to something fresher
However, after some time I decided to just upgrade and I bought the HTC One Google Edition.
It worked great for months, no issues at all.
The GPS was working great in all parts of the country (Belgium)...
However, recently, I'm having some weird issues.
In certain parts of the country, my GPS drops out and does not view any satellites. It's only the GPS on my One. I have checked the same area on my Car's GPS and my Desire, and they have perfect GPS signal.
It's always the same area, btw. When driving to work, I know when I'll loose signal. And only when I'm driving home after work, when I reach that same point, I'll lose the connection again...
I did a factory data reset but this didn't work.
I read in some google results to disable google+ and this appeared to help quite some people, but I disabled almost all google apps, and still cannot lock onto GPS in certain areas.
Earlier today, I figured out that in those areas, I manage to get a GPS signal when going into Airplane mode.
However, when I go out of Airplane mode, I will lose the signal again...
I have disabled:
Drive
Earth
Google Hindi/Korean/Pinyin Input
Google Play Books/Music
Google Play services
Google+
Keep
Maps
The only apps I have installed since the factory reset are WhatsApp, Ingress and GPS Test and GpsFix (but these don't help).
Please let me know what kind of information I need to provide which would help you help me
Does anyone have any idea of what I could try to fix this, please?
I'm desperate...
thanks

You can turn on the wifi and check.
Wifi doesn't have to be connected to any network, it will just boost the signal and help you lock the location quicker
I also have the issue, I use HTCj one (Japanese version).
I think this maybe caused by AGPS or your sim card.
When I use wcdma or gsm sim card ,GPS works fine. but if i use cdma sim card , satellite can't be locked.
Swtich to Airplane mode ,works again.

GPS Problem

Hi guys!
I have Nokia 7 plus and unfortunately I experience some problems with the GPS. This is how it looks like in the GPS Test app:
https://img1.picload.org/image/dloricol/screenshot_20180803-201912.png
I tried the following
- turned off the 4G
- also turned on/off the WiFi
- tried changing the location mode from high accuracy to device only
- cleared the AGPS - again no signal, then updated the AGPS, same thing
- restarted the phone
- turned off the phone, waited for a while, turned it on again
- removed the SIM card, waited for a while, put it in again
Google maps finds my location, also Runtastic but it says that GPS signal is weak and tracking will not work. So something is obviously wrong here. This happened before as well, then the GPS worked perfectly for about a week, now I have the problem again.
Can anybody please help? Thanks!
Hi again,
So the GPS started working again yesterday for a while. It behaved perfectly with no issues and accuracy of 1 meter. Then when I started the app later, it could not get a fix again... Today it is working (for now). I even tested it home in a room and it has 21 satellites in view, 11 in use, with 3 meters accuracy. For comparison my other phone can only see 17 and uses 5.
So when the GPS decides to turn on, it works perfectly. But it also often happens that it cannot fix. Would you guys say that this is a hardware or software error? If it is the software I would be willing to wait for an update. If it is a hardware problem I still have 4 days left to return the phone, so please let me know. Thanks!
Hi I don't experience the same problem as you. But I to have some problems with it. Before I had a j7 2016 that I had no issues with the gps in the same places like with this phone. Indoor is not usable at all even with all the options WiFi data scanning also gps uses all the info from phone not just gps itself. If I go at the window indeed I get signal quite fast and lock on in about 10 15 sec.
