I have a silver xperia US model.
Overall I am very happy with its functions after customization with the knowledge and help of this forums.
However the bottom bar that shows the functions of the two silver hard buttons has become ligth gray with white lettering, making it almost unreadable.
Is there a way to change this color back to black without a reset which would require reinstalling everithing on the phone.
Thanks for your help and all the support on this forum.
Try just re-applying a theme under Start > Settings > Today. Just the "Xperia Black" one, or anything different then what you have it set on now, and make sure you hit "ok" at the top right.
Lemme know if that works.
Kurazz
Unfortunately NOPE
Whatever scheme I choose the bottom bar becomes the lighter version of the scheme with buttons remaining white.
That is, if black scheme bar is gray, if green scheme bar is light lime, if red bar is pinkish is silver scheme, bar is white.
What to do?
Hmmm, that is too bad.
The next thing you can try is a soft reset. It doesn't delete anything, just restarts the software and hopefully fixes the problem. It is explained at the following link: http://www.xperiax1.net/forum/xperia-x1/546-tutorial-soft-hard-resets.html
Also, think when the problem first started to occur and whether or not you had customized anything at that point. Maybe you could revert what you changed and the issue will go away.
Lastly, and also explained at the above link, is the hard reset. WARNING: This deletes all your data and returns the phone to factory settings. I would use this as a last resort if you are unable to fix the problem and can't live with it.
Again, let me know how it goes.

All of the sudden tonight I started seeing white rectangles when I open a program and black rectangles when I close a program. When I open a program, first it will show a medium size hollow rectangle about half the size of the screen followed by a larger one about 2/3's the size of the screen and then the program opens. When I close a program it does it in reverse with black rectangles. Also, when I change todayscreen themes just after I pick a new theme I get a tiny rectangle in the upper left hand corner followed by a slightly larger one a little more towards the middle of the screen and then the wait cursor pops up. To me it seems like it's an animation, but I don't remember enabling anything like that and menu animations are disabled. I don't really care if it keeps doing that as long as it's not a sign of a problem of some kind. Anyone else seen anything like this? If it's something I accidentally enabled, how did I end up doing it so I can turn it off in the future if I decide to?
HKLM\System\GWE\Animate set this to 0
it now animates opening and closing windows
Thanks RPGO. I was just about to hard reset my phone since no one seemed to know what was going on and I wanted to make sure that it wasn't something that could potentially harm my phone sooner or later. I still don't quite know how it got activated.
Figured out how it got it got activated. It was part of Paul's tweak pack over at MoDaCo. I was just over there and happened to run across someone asking for an untweak for that tweak.
Just received the ATT Tilt, but I am having some issues with the top of the screen showing a thin rainbow bar. Looking at it closely, it appears that the today theme does not fully cover the top area of the screen and this is where the rainbow bar sips through; this happens in all the other windows as well (apps, settings) and even when I rotate the screen, the rainbow bar moves position to coincide with the screen orientation. I tried switching to different Today themes to see if this rainbow dissapears, but no luck. It's strange that this effect does not happen on the splash screen (everything is one color), but immediately appears once the windows mobile 6 menu loads. Below is an image of a today screen with the similar problem.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to remove this darn bar....it's driving me crazy!I am hoping that this is not a screen defect and can be adjusted by some settings change.
Thanks!
haha thats a battery meter. Probably from one of the applications you installed.
rofl......i think thats the vistahide battery gauge. if it is, then all you have to do is delete the vistahide link from the windows\startup folder and then softreset
I removed the vistahide battery gauge from the start up applications and now I have a beautiful black screen! YAY!
Thanks guys for the heads-up on this...I really appreciate it.
rofl =)))
Funny, but yeah, your question is perfectly fine.. just funny how something can be loved by some and hated by others.
Hi, i removed it from start up but it still doesn't work. can someone help me out?
thanks
Have you restarted after removing the shortcut?
Batti can also do the same kind of color bar, maybe that's the one you have.
I soft reset it
should i reset with the pin?
where would i find batti?
thanks
Ok...when i start my phone, while the SE logo is seen, the screen is black with the logo onit. but hthe top two corners are a little different in colour...(not black) like a little green.
BUT, once the phone starts, all is fine..no matter what screen i enter..even the white fish panel is normal...
Is it because of excessive use of the start and task bar buttons on the two sides??
ALSO I use the silver left tab key for the start bar. but i cant find a close button..the silver right button only closes the window, but the program running in the background....any way to solve this....
Okay. So if the colours only appear when it boots, and nothing else, you dont have a problem. At all really. Maybe the logo decided to get funky.
And when you quit the program, some apps do decide to stay open, use the task manager to close them for good.
thanx a lot Ratchetclank...
This was essential for me in Gingerbread. ICS there is no option yet, anyone know how to do it myself, tablet is close to unusable atm. Whenever I type I miss loads as hit the status bar instead of the keyboard, also buttons more accessible at the top.
Thanks.
My bottom status bar (CM7) has never caused me issues. In fact, I can't recall seeing one with it at the top (except on phones of course).
The dots representing the different screens is up top, would you move that to the bottom? Seems like that would be a problem too. Maybe more so.
IT was an option in CM7 to have it at the top, the dots are hidden when in an App so would not cause a problem and the onboard keyboard would be flush with the bottom of the screen and functional.
I would also like the status bar on top.
This is my post with the answers I got:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1454881
Thanks for the replies. I've gone back to gingerbread until this is sorted, was finding it unusable.
id prefer the bar stay at the bottom but i do know what you are talking about with the keyboard. seems everytime i go for space, i hit that instead.
I just had a question about my notification bar having these weird artifacts on it. I doubt it's the display since it shows on the picture I posted. Any ideas or suggestions as to what it might be?

That slightly lighter area with AT&T on it and the line under it? That's the bottom of the "window shade" - the notification pulldown. You can push the notification pulldown back up from there.

Unfortunately not quite. I was referring to those two light Grey lines on the very corner of the pull pull down bar.

They just mark the space between them where there might be more information sometimes. It is normal.

Explain this please, because they're two crooked barely visible lines. I don't see how this could be normal or even what it means. And although your response seemed educated I have no idea what your talking about so that doesn't really help.
There's nothing really visible in your picture, even when I fully exppand it. The arrow seems to be pointing to the top line. So I put on my reading glasses and my 20X magnifier (the one I use for working on microcircuits) and looked at my screen. Nothing there but the top line, an area slightly less dark than the area above the line and the bottom line. If your eyes are really that much better than mine, I can borrow a good microscope from the university and look at a pixel level, but I think what you're seeing is an artifact or dirt.

Just to make sure we are on the same page here. To me it looks like your crude arrow is pointing to the thin grey line that runs across the lower part of the screen above the bolder line. There is also one at the top that is very thin like maybe 2 or three pixels at most. These are the the top and bottom boarders for the information area of the pull down. If you get a text or an app wants to upgrade you can slide the bar down and the information about the text or the app and other information will appear between the two very tiny thin lines.
At all other times there is just a big dark void area between these lines.
Now if your image is showing something else then only you can see it because as stated by another poster we see nothing out of the ordinary for any Android phone running this version of Android in that screen image.

You may even have to as far as full brightness in a dark room. And I know it's the software because it's in the image not the lcd. I meant to circle it as well but I guess I missed that but I understand this device. I'm quite tech friendly myself so I understand how the notification bar design is. I'm not referring to the gray line that turns blue when you touch it and I'm not talking about any of the bar dividers. Nor the message and download center. I mean right in the corner there's too glitch like hash marks that actually slide up and down with it. Under the lighting I posted up there you should see it without a doubt. Also stretching the image to scale of your screen help you see it as if it was your pull down bar. Once someone sees it the hopefully we can determine what it's culprit is.

It's definitely there my wife even saw it. You may even have to as far as full brightness in a dark room. And I know it's the software because it's in the image not the lcd. I even pisted a screenie while moving it up and it travels with it as if its part of the notification bar. But i also know a glitch when i see obe. Under the lighting I posted up there you should see it without a doubt. Also stretching the image to scale of your screen help you see it as if it was your pull down bar. 20X head mag + 10X mag swingup. Dark room. Full brightness. Nothing.
If could be an artifact on your LCD.
I could not see anything on my phone but when I looked at it on my pc I could see what I think he is talking about. There are actually three lines that I see running on a slant, one of the lines runs through the "AT&T" on the bottom of the screen.
I think I see it too. Its so faint I had to zoom in just to see the pixel differences. Id reccomend a facotry reset, and if the issues persistent, perhaps a ROM install, and if not, a warranty exchange.

I wish I could believe that, but why does the artifact travel with the notification bar as I pull it back up and away? And that spot/issue doesn't appear anywhere else on the screen and also it doesn't appear on the same spot screen wise as to where it ends up on the notification bar. This can't possibly make any sense to an lcd. Lol. Any suggestions? And I apologize that you can't see it. It's just a photo you should see it. It shows up on any device viewing the image.

Thank you so much. I'm glad you were able to. What I don't understand is I've never in my years of experience with these devices I've never ever seen an image issue like that that actually moves with the bar as if it's a part of it. I've tried resets to no avail. And if it was hardware you'd see it one everything of that color in that same spot but it doesn't have a designated spit other than the Corner of that notification bar. Strange and I'm at a loss of words. And Romming isn't an option, this device has too many security features to warrant a trial and error theory just to see.
