Okay so i've been at this some time, following
Guide to root Rogers G1's
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532419
now my phone is currently stuck at the rogers screen with the fastboot usb at the top left corner, and i've uninstalled the drivers and re-installed, and when i do the cmd for adb devices
it shows
List of devices attached
^ nothing.
am i installing the driver wrong? its showing on the usb as Android 1.0 after i go and select the x86 driver, currently running windows 7 . If you could please post some help i've been reading since yesterday and can't seem to get passed this issue
i beleieve the main issue would be me not being able to access my sd card, anyway to push a file through onto it somehow via cmd adb ? if so, tips would be great , my sdk is in c:\android\sdk-windows\tools and i have it up and running in cmd. Please help .
Update: i was just able to
fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
and boot into "Android system recovery<2>
[Home+back] Reboot System now
[alt+s] apply sdcard:update.zip
[alt+a]apply any zip from sd
[alt+w]wipe data/factory reset
[alt+b]nandroid v2.2 backup
[alt+r]restore latest backup
[alt+f] erpair ext filesystems
[alt+x] go to console
now i know the only file on my sd card is the spl renamed to "update.zip"
no rom on it , so how do i get the rom on it from this point? any help would be great, leaving it at this screen until further notice from boards.
also note, bottom of screen says
"Build: CyanogenMod v1.4 + JF
Formatting CACHE:...
Nothing moving
PLEASE Help :'(
Thanks
do you have a recovery image installed? and whats the current rom that you are on?

I beleive what i've done is erased the default rogers rom on there, and during flash attempt, wiped it, now there is no rom on it , so i have this cyanogenmod 1.4 +JF on here, and can't access my sd card, anyway to do it from the current menu i'm on ?
There is only the spl on my sd card root (update.zip) and no rom at all, nothing else.
The Recovery + Radio are from the Haykuro recent Rogers Heres your root thread . -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654

Edit: Also note i didn't do any backup type before this , i just have the update.zip from the spl, and think i wiped the data, im assuming once i get the sd card up all i need to do is stick the rom update.zip on there, then i can alt+s my way to a new rom, correct?

Maybe.. got my hopes up for nothing.. now i dont want to help.. xD
ok you have The Cyan 1.4 recovery installed right? and apparently your at fastboot after you have flashed the spl or whatever so press the end, menu and talk buttons to get out of fastboot. or just remove the battery doesent matter lol . But before you do that check the spl and make shure its 1.33.2005 to make shure your safe. once you turn the device back on hold the power and home button then recovery should come up. if you have cyan 1.4 recovery you should have a picture of the little android guy in the background lol and if so go all the way down until it says go to console. or just do alt+x. then once your in that screen then press enter once.
once you press enter the screen should have this up #
if so then just type ums_enable then press enter. it should look like this
# ums_enable
wait for a brief second and wallah your sd will mount to your comp. then flash whatever rom you had on before

bro with that recovery you dont have to even rename it to update.zip anymore. just drag it to your sd then use the apply any .zip but you can if you want doesent matter
Did it work?
hi i tried searching for this but couldnt really find anything on it. i tried updating to the cyanogen recovery.img 1.4 using terminal as the guide said here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533731, however now whenever i boot into recovery, the bootloader screen comes up instead. i have tried reflashing the recovery numerous times but the problem still persists. am i doing something wrong? any help would be great. thanks in advance
also i am rooted currently running JF 1.5 rom with latest radio and hard spl.
Put the recovery image on the SD card yourself. Get the file from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523558
i have also tried that. once i placed the file on the sd card, i opened up terminal and typed in the command:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img
after i pressed enter nothing happend on screen, so i turned off the phone and tried to boot into recover, but the bootloader screen still appears. am i typing in the wrong command or something?
Do it again and this time wait for the # to appear again. Then type reboot and hold home button while it's booting. Should take you to Cyan's awesome recovery screen
Good luck
... Have you tried flashing it from fastboot like cyanogen recommended if you ran into any issues?

After you open the terminal, did you type "su"?

yeah i did type in su. i have been away for a few days so i ma going to try the suggestions mentioned. and no i havent tried doing it using fastboot as i havent got adb set up yet. i will also try that later. thanks for the suggestions.
I have the same problem. When holding power+home, it flashes t-mobile G1, then the screen disintegrates and it reboots a couple times, finally stopping on a blank black screen.
I have no problem booting straight into the O.S., I've just lost my recovery.
I've done this before and it worked, but I recently had a catastrophic failure and had to start from scratch.
If all else fails or you don't fell like using adb, should be fine if you downgrade and re-root, etc.... unless there is something else messing up your recovery partition.
Put the recovery.img file on the root of your sdcard
Then try:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system
cat /sdcard/recovery.img > recovery.img
flash_image recovery recovery.img
I've gone from JF 1.5ADP to Modaco using the cyanogen 1.4 recovery without any problems.
when you flash using terminal, you need to wait till you get the # back, and then restart the phone
which recovery image were you previously using as I was using JF 1.43 recovery

Hi djosiah
did you read this post ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4569666#post4569666
(Please substitude by the file name "update-cm-4.0.4-signed.zip" by "cm-recovery-1.4.img" in my post - sorry, I was misaken as to the file name ...!!)
My problem was a corrupted cm-recovery-1.4.img (a few thousand bytes of the MBs were missing ...!) A new downloaded cm-recovery-1.4.img (from another URL) solved the problem finally. The rest was cream - totally happy now.
Good luck!
My problem was solved.
Unroot the phone
reformat sd card using gparted live cd to fat32
redo root
flash new radio
flash new spl
flash cyanogen rom
flash cyanogen recovery
tada
So I download the image by right click save as and then the name it has. Then after I put in the SD Card to my G1 then I go to the terminal emulator. I type in su (wait for a screen to popup and press "allow")
flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.3.1.img. It then says Flash_Image not found.... What do I do? And do I have to Partition my SD Card first?
ok now it says error reading...
What is it you're trying to do? Flash the recovery image? Or flash a ROM?
Do step 5 HERE
That is cm recovery 1.4
Have you tried the 6-minute version? It has worked for me on 2-different phones.

I wanted to try Cyanogens new Rom when I bumped into snag on the first step.
I cant get in Recovery mode! I have done it befor to get root access but I dont know what happened. It always freezes at the Rogers Logo when I hold Home and push power.
I have very little knowledge of this stuff but Ive tried to install Cyans Pimped recovery.img but It keeps telling me cannot load recovery.img. I think I only tried through fastboot though, I have attempted to through adb shell but I'm not 100% how that works, so I assumed it failed.** Oh and I also Tried erasing my old Recovery Image, which was successful but didnt help anything
I have root access and I own a Canadian HTC Dream. I have Cupcake, Thanks for your help in advance ^^
Hi, it sounds like you erased the standard recovery image, but haven't sucsessfully flashed a new one, which is why the phone will have.
Try flashing it on your phone using the terminal. First grab "terminal emuator" or "Better Terminal".
Put the recovery image on the root of your SD card and name it recovery.img
Open terminal and type:
su <- when the prompt appears, choose always allow
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
It's done when the cursor drops down to the next line. Turn the phone off and hopefully recovery will be working.
Hey thanks for the response but still having the same problem.
When I type su it always says Access Granted Courtesy of yada yada. Im assuming this isnt a problem. I flashed my recovery.img and it didnt give me a response. I guess it worked but yet, Still Freezes on Rogers Logo.
I found the Right Recovery.img for a Rogers Dream but now I cant seem to flash it into the Phone. When I type the cmd in Terminal It doesnt give me any errors. But when i go to Erase it in Fast boot it says the remote partition does not exist. Can anyone figure this one out? Im probably doing something small and stupid wrong but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like you have few different tutorials mixed up. You don't type cmd in terminal. cmd is Windows command to get into command prompt, from there you type your adb commands so if we assume that you placed your NEW recovery image in the root of you sd card and named it recovery.img you would type
From your computer
Window's key +r
cmd
adb shell
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
reboot recovery
OR
From terminal
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
and wait for # to appear, then type
reboot recovery and see what happens
There's a way to do it from fast boot screen as well, you can find a tut in developement section.
Good luck
Hey thanks, That does clear a few things up. I just ended up resetting my phone and it was a breeze from there. Thanks for your help.
I have a rooted dell streak 7, flashed with clockwork mod recovery. today i went to download the over the air update t-mobile sent out for the dell streak 7 and the phone froze, when i reset it it loaded to clockwork mod and i can't get it to load the normal OS now. no matter how many times i reset it. I even went so far as to format the /system, /cache and all the others trying to get it to boot pass the CMW recovery screen and nothing works. any suggestions would be helpful.
i dont know if it will help if you format with stock recovery you might e stuck but if you can still get into adb shell then try this guide you have to search for files yourself

CMW boot loop problem
Hey Guy,
I am having the same issue..when try too adb commad it return:
fail with error -1
please help
thanks for the reply. this is all very new for me, but, in general i can usually handle my own tech stuff.
so let me just ask a real basic question. if I can open ADB and send commands to the phone through a DOS prompt, then that would mean the ADB shell is working, is that correct?
No you have to type "adb shell" and see if that works

Thank sooo much for help...I think I missing the highlighted steps below
this guide is for those who still have Clockwork Mod Recovery still on device you can thank bogdi1988 for his work and orginal guide here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...5&postcount=76
BUT THIS MAY WORK FOR OTHERS IF YOU KNOW HOW TO MOUNT SYSTEM AND DATA AND THOSE THINGS FROM ADB
but to simplify I did this :
stock images
recovery.img
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2252176/recovery.img
boot.img
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2252176/boot.img
Once in recovery mount everything you can system , data , cache , everyrthing besides sd card
then go into command prompt and type adb shell make sure its working if you still have root it will show # if not it will show $ I believe no biggie as long as it picks up in shell.
then type : flash_image /dev/block/mmcblk3p2 /sdcard/boot_orig.img
then type : flash_image /dev/block/mmcblk3p1 /sdcard/recovery_orig.img
select reboot from the recovery. now it will reboot and it will format misc and it will reboot again.
bogdi1988 suggest flash all images over again in fastboot
in this order
system.img
recovery.img
boot.img
thanks go to everyone who has a dell streak 7 that was willing to try all these hacks and risking your devices for the greater good of the streak
P.S. I will post system.img in a second
Also for fastboot help thank bogdi1988 again heres his post that helped me

I was able to get the stock boot.img back on the device- however the recovery.img did not take after an unsuccessful update on a CW/rooted device. Now I have a partially corrupt device that I cannot get passed the FCs on... I cannot even get as far as to set the USB mount in debug. I can get ADB shell to see it and execute commands- however no dice on on recovery.
I can only gain read access to the file system on the device while running as well. ANyone have any thoughts on how to to push or write the recovery image so I can reflash this thing? Thanks for everything already.
Dont flash update with cwm recovery you can only flash custom roms with custom recovery
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using XDA Premium App
when you say mount /system and /cache. is that through the ADB bridge? or the CMW recovery screen on the dell streak?
Cm

thanks for all your help so far. I can run the ADB shell successfully and get the # on my dos prompt. I go in and mount /cache, /data, and /system on the streak itself, through the CMW "mounts and storage" screen. and i have copied both the uploaded files, boot and recovery, to my external SD card. but whenever i type the command in, i get "failed with error: -1"
would me having formatted the drives change what i need to type here : "flash_image /dev/block/mmcblk3p2 /sdcard/boot_orig.img" ?

i don t think you was suppose to format
I know. this was back when the problem first occured. did it in a bit of a panic trying to get past the CMW boot screen. i'm just wondering if the "flash_image /dev/block/mmcblk3p2 /sdcard/boot_orig.img" would need to change at all considering the mistake.

i think you may need to call dell bro
think if i call it in under the warrant, they'll send it back damaged?
if you formatted you more then likely bricked it. call dell feed them some bs about when you tried to update it bricked your device they will send you a new one
