OTOY... a possible future for gaming on mobile devices - G1 Apps and Games

Hey i seen this the other day and thought i would let the general public more aware of this.
OTOY has been in development for quite some time and basicaly its where graphics for games are rendered server side and the games are controled and viewed user side. Supposidly they have been able to implement this to the iphone and are able to run crysis on it.
in non mobile related news this can be used to play pc games over just an internet connection on the crapest of setups. i have seen an example of gta 4 and if you search youtube ther is plenty of vids showing of OTOYs potential.

Iphone games vs Pocket pc games

Will we ever see games developed like some of the new and up and coming ones out for the Iphone on our HTC diamonds.
The likes of Need for speed, real soccer and Spore
Would the HTC be capable of handling such graphics/gamplay ?
Neither handset is capable of such graphics, even at 640x480... Keep in mind that they're not just minature PCs.
Look at 10 year old games and you get a better idea of what they might (with tweaking) be capable of in terms of PC games.
Sidenote: the handset specific games are not real games

APPLE's Iphone games/apps VS Windows Mobile Pocket PC's apps/games

hi i just seen the iphone/ipod touch apps and games, but comparing to our windows mobile apps and games iphone/itouch has wide selection and not also that, its much well detailed on the version comparing to WinMo
are there any no good developers to port this on WinMo? we win on the UI and customable home menu (UI sense) but in the entertainment section we failed
just for an example: EA games, the NFS undercover on iphone is much richer on both graphics and gameplay compare to WinMo version its just like a java version in a CAB file... but we all know WinMo has greater RAM and grafix (HTC HD had) i think WinMo lacks the developer
post your thoughts
its true,
but with the comming of snapdragon and tegra devices, the developers will soon follow.
(and hopefully PSP, DS and iPhone emulators :-D )
I think it's because iPhone must use its own apps and games. And other wm phones have more choices on apps. So they have to do these apps and games much better than those to attract the users to choose iPhone.
Do you want more games for WinMo , $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ dig deep.
Steve Jobs is not a billionaire because the iPhone has such a wide variety of apps and games that can be easily downloaded from XDA.
Anyway I read somewhere that WinMo is 3y behind iphone.
But catching up fast!!

Where did you read that? Macworld magazine.
Hey how come there are so many more games for my PS3 and the games are so much better than on my PC ...? Come on PC catch up...... my PC is at least 3 years behind my PS 3...
Yeah I've got so many great games and apps. Just purchased Bladesof Fury, which is basically a remake of Soul Calibur. Also a game called Gangstar which is like GTA. Gameloft make both, but all the games that have are great.
the iphone also has great hardware acceleration versus the windows phones, so games won't catch up until a significant hardware change accompanies a new mobile operating system.
the iphone was built from the ground up after seeing how everyone else did it for years. sure, MS could redesign everything to catch up, if not surpass the iphone, but what then? all the software that has been developed for resistive screens fall to the wayside and a HUGE user base is left behind.
i love windows, and couldn't even give android more than a day, but i easily accepts the facts that the iphone is one f'ing slick phone, but its the fanboy base that absolutely make me hate anything that is apple related. our OS isn't as smooth, never ever as pretty, and is definitely not as user friendly, so just take pride in the fact that it is a power-users phone and not well-built for the general masses.
thank you let me have a try
lol, wonna games - bye psp

Well... in terms of support for standards, no, but yeah, WinMo is old just like PalmOS was 2 or 3 years ago. That former died from not evolving for real, and I fear this is what awaits WinMo as soon as a capable mobile OS hits the shelves.
Ha! Because it is really "cool" to have half the screen obscured by your fingers or tilting your head with the phone... Pfffffff. Even a three year old can understand that you can't really play games without a hardware keyboard/d-pad. I can play touchscreen, accelerometer, hardware and d-pad games on WinMo phones, how many of those can iTards play? WinMo has thousands of games that can be played on many different devices, not on variations of the same one...
I have 100+ WinMo games on my Xperia, 70 java games, MorphGear with thousand of games (which lets me play every old console game out there) and a palm emulator. iPhail sucks big time in general, but it sucks even more when it comes to gaming.
Three years behind? HAHAHAHAHAAH!!! The iCrap is a decade behind...
Steve Job$ can GTFO with his "iPod Touch is the gretest portable gaming machine" - oh yeah? Have you heard of the PSP n00b... lmao. "Ohhhh looky looky we got copy, paste and CUT on the iPhone" - WOW can you imagine that? They have "cut" on their phones in 2009! Pathetic, overhyped devices with outdated hardware and software...
well i would prefer iphone games since i think theyre the best games ive ever played on mobile phones

Windows Mobile does have some fantastic games, but the developers really don't give the damn about graphics. I'm far from an Apple fanboy - quite the opposite - but I do find it sad that while WinMos are capable of graphics as smooth as the iPhone's games (Binoteq / Astraware's MLT shows this), nearly every developer out there does not utilize the full potential of WinMo.
And many of the "official ports" to WinMo also have poor graphics - I prefer Arlanthir's "Touch The Music" to the official "Guitar Hero" game.
games
Check here there some fun game demos and games
www.krenisiswinmobilegamesapps.com
I used to own a HTC Touch HD2 a PSP and a DSlite....sold the lot and bought an Iphone 3gs, the games are in my opinion better than the PSP and DS, kind of a mix of the both, graphically not as good as the PSP, but better than the DS, controls not as good as the DS but better than the PSP, the accelerometer controls on the Iphone are the best on any device, my HTC just could not handle Need for speed, now I have the device that does it all, for me anyway.
clones
There are some clones of iphone games made for windows mobie like doodle jump and canabalt. Go here and check them out, they pretty simple but fun.

cheap
Look most windows mobile users are alergic to buying games . You cant expect perfect smooth OpenGLS games for free. Windows mobile users think 99 cents is too much for a game. Most windows mobile users dont care about developers or what it takes to make games. They want perfection but dont want to pay a dime. Thats why iphone wins.

Games

I tried seaching for Games for the Xperia, Windows Mobile, and Pocket PC but I'm coming up short. I'm trying to find high quality games to play. Are there any? I know that I must purchase them so I'm not looking for free games. I want good, high quality games.
here are some hq games ive tried on my X1...all are fullscreen and touch-sensitive.
Prince of Persia HD
Spider Man Toxic City HD
Assassin's Creed 3D HD
Ferrari GT Evolution HD
The Sims 3
Need For Speed Undercover
GT Racing Motor Academy

I have about 20 more to add soon.
There are many more threads, just use search...
Most of those games in the post above me are java games. IMHO java games suck, but that's just me. I have 70 java games and all of them are crap.
I did use search and thank you for the link, and I've already looked at those and I don't consider most of those to be high quality. They seem to be just your standard freeware/shareware games. I don't mind paying 10-30 for a good game that I could play on my X1 as I just got done paying several hundreds for the phone.
Actually not many are freeware/shareware. You have to pay for most of them.
I haven't seen any games so far that have any graphics that seem to impress me. I hate to admit it, but the Mytopia poker seems to have the best graphics of any games for the X1 that I've seen personally, but if I'm wrong...someone please correct me.
Can someone list me what they think are the best graphics games and gameplay. And why you like the game. Thanks.
Try NFS: Undercover, Call of Duty (te 3D accelerated one) and Xtrakt for starters.
quake3 and starcraft on pocketpc are also pretty good looking imho
i am playing tony hawk pro skater 2 with hardware accelerated ,and its beautiful .
Anyone know guitar hero game that works on xperia?
(with exception of world tour, which need internet connection while playing)
Can people that claim things to work perfectly fullscreen please link the games they speak of? The sites where they can be bought that is. If it's warez, don't link it, but please PM me so we can talk about it offsite.
EDIT: Might you guys wonder why, I'm planning to create a little collection and for once and for all get rid of all the "games for x1" threads

[Q] I am going to buy a galaxy note in 2 weeks..need to knw about game compatibility

I have read in your gaming thread that many games are not compatible with galaxy note.As i am a gaming freak.itz the main reason i want to buy galaxy note.I want to know in future will this game compatibility issue will be taken care of?or will games be released compatible with the high resolution of note...plz help me...thanx in advance
Tintin from Gameloft
So far, a few games are not quite compatible with the Note, in the sense of looking too "soft" as they were not designed for the larger screen. The most notable fail for me is Adventures of Tintin in HD, which I was excited about seeing on a larger screen, as I purchased it when I owned the Galaxy S2. But the game is a different 2D version (horrible, ultra-pixelated 1980s game kind of look) on the Note. Subsequently, Gameloft prevented Note users from downloading the game but there's no refund. What a bummer, and certainly not an extremely pleasant experience dealing with the customer service, who sounded too matter of fact about it.
I suggest that you list the games that are critical to you, and some of us can help to check.
Help me with gta 3..nfs hot pursuit..9mm..i have read the whole gaming thread..for some people the games run for some they doesnt..vry confusing..
Can you spell out the names of the games? I don't play them...

for me, gta3 ran when i downloaded over wifi, but not when i downloaded over 3g (probably due to crappy 3g in australia leading to corrupted files).
there are many different gta 3 versions on the market, there should be one for your area.
as for gameloft games, most dont really work too well. gameloft arent too great with their device support yet, but theyre not as bad as ea games.
Hey I also game a lot and I just got my galaxy note.
From the gameloft games, I am able to run (well):
- backstab
- asphalt 6
- brothers in arms 2 (there is a free version on the market)
- modern combat 3 (now available on the market)
What I am trying to run but can't:
- tintin (2d version...no way to get the normal one, I also copied the data over but nothing)
- 9mm - doesn't download the data: incompatible device
- shadow guardian : tried the galaxy tab version...data downloaded, gameloft logo than back to main screen
- rainbow six shadow guardian: the desire hd version i bought some time ago doesn't run. I am trying a samsung version now...downloading the data still don't know whether it will work
- let's golf 3: nothing...incompatible device. copying the data over doesn't help.
Other games:
- dead space: not on the market but you can find it and runs flawless
- shadowgun: no problems. available on the market
- shine runner : on the market
- riptide gp: same
- GTA 3 should run without problems...i still have to buy it, i have to finish some games before playing gta.
- sprinkle : flawless (no black bars on the sides)
- reckless racing
And of course some other minor games from the market...of course angry birds, cut the rope, apparatus and some others....but i am more interested in 'gameloft' games and unfortunately no game (apart from modern combat 3) is officially working. To get some to work you have to manually do everything...and not always work. That's why i am trying all the games (which I had bought and never played...what luck now they don't work on the new phone -_-) too see how many i can get to run.
Anyway in January gameloft should update most of the games and get them to run on the device. I am sure they are working on it.
So far every game I have has played perfectly on the note So no problems for me. But then again I don't play any of those games that you play. I'm a casual gamer (puzzles, word games, etc). I highly recommend the Note.
If any games don't run NOW, they probably will because all developers have to do is tweak their configurations.
good news for the original poster

thanks for the info guys
All the games I play kick ass on the Note..
Order&Chaos
Modern Combat 3
Death Rally (man this game is awesome)
I dont play a lot of games though..Also you can use chainfire3d to play games you couldnt normally.
Been using my Galaxy Note for like 3-4months game play is awesome....i have a few titles that jist look great...
Shawdowgun is one of the favorites...
And if your wearing headphones you got the option for 5.1 digital sound...works great in the car as well connected to car radio as well......works grwat for watching movies as well...

GBA.emu - finally a new GBA Emulator

Just wanted everybody to know, that Robert Bruglia, who also ported Snes9X and other Emulators to Android, released his vba-m port GBA.emu.
As you expect from his emulators, it's running great, and especially with our keyboard, and disabled linear filtering, it's a real pleasure to play GBA games on this emulator.
You can find it in the market: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDIxMiwiY29tLmV4cGx1c2FscGhhLkdiYUVtdSJd
How does this compare to something like gameboid?
Also are there any playstation emulators than can be used in the background? I have FPse which works good, but whenever I press the home button it closes, and I have to restart from my last save point.
does it have link cable connection emulation?
i've been looking for an app with that function
I don't know, unfortunately. But please consider contacting the developer!
I miss yongzh. his EMUs were top-notch and he was a speedy and proficient developer!

+1
The main reason why I first switched to GBA.emu is that Yongzh refuses to develop Gameboid any further, since it was removed from the Android Market back in 2011. Then the main reason is the unbelievably ugly linear filtering that made games look so blurry and ugly.
But there is a new kid on the block, it's name is "My Boy!" and has some benefits over GBA.emu. It's much faster than GBA.emu and needs far less battery. I tested it with Final Fantasy Advance, which is a time intese game. With GBA.emu my battery drained within 3 hours, with My Boy! it lasts at least double the time.
Every emulator is worth buying, because their developers are working hard to get the best performance and compatibility. So I think you should buy My Boy! AND GBA.emu.
To disable linear filtering in My Boy! go to Video settings and change the Backend rendering mode to Canvas instead of OpenGL ES.
EDIT:
I'd like to share the information, which emulators the Android versions are based of:
Gameboid: gpSP
GBA.emu: VBA-M r1097
My Boy!: NO PORT - own development

Does this emulator support cable link emulation then?
If it supports link cable emulation, the emulator would be quite interesting.
I had a conversation with the developers of "My Boy!" and it seems pretty much impossible to add this feature. But they also claimed that they might get back to that topic in the future.
My conclusion by the way is: MyBoy! offers very high fps even on low-end devices and saves battery the most. I recommend GBA.emu especially for x86 devices, as there is a native version for that platform and it's very fast.
I am currently running My Boy! on my tablet.
But when I stretch out the image and put the app in fullscreen! the image looks blurred.
Is this still the best app in regards to image quality?
(When it comes to GBA of course)
link cable emulation
My boy just released an update for link cable emulation but I'm finding it hard to figure out how to work it. And for that other guy I think the image will always be the same but will be blurrier if it is stretched
