ok....so that's what my thread is for how do I do that lol
A lot of the android widgets are actually just some images and files in stuff like music, launcher, stuff like that. I do not think any of them are standalone .apk files.

is there an app that gives what ever theme im on 5 home screens?? not including the home replacements...
Amount of home screens is hard-coded into the Launcher.apk app. However, you can change the (freely available) source code to have as many home screens as you wish (within reason of course - anything over 10 will slow down the phone), skin it to the appropriate theme, compile it, sign it and overwrite the original Launcher.apk app.
Some ROMs come with pre-modified launchers (CyanogenMod, xROM, etc.) and there are several stand-alone launchers that are being developed by XDA community members. Take a look in the "Dream android development" section. Keep in mind though that those launchers are not themed, and may not work on all ROMs.
can i jus take a launcher.apk file from someone's theme and jus install it, for example the one from the hero theme?
u cannot just take the hero launcher and put it in if you are running a non-hero rom. you can take another launcher from another theme and put it in as long as its for the same rom as you. always make backup just in case as it can cause you to have bootloops or non-booting.
can someone tell me how to edit my launcher.apk file to make it 5 homescreens?

you dont.
you can edit the SOURCE of the launcher.apk (if you have it), then recompile it and include it in a rom.
or, as suggested before, get one already modified (but may not work with all roms).

I really dont think its that simple.
You might wanna take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540880&highlight=launcher.apk
Its not technically a "home replacement" since it uses the original tweaked android code. You just replace your launcher.apk with this one.

well thanx for the help...i got my answer!
Hey All
So I really like the sms unread count widget by kanokgems that shows how many missed callls and unread txts you have. So I was wondering, is it possible to change the icons to maybe hero or eclair icons? I opened up the apk file and found a folder called res with some png files in there. Is it as easy as just replacing those?
Thanks
yeah just replace the images, make sure they are the same sizes. You would need to resign the apk after. then uninstall the previous one from your phone, then install the new edited one.
Hey, Not sure if this is bad or anything, But do you mind posting your changed apk?

Here's one I made a while back for Xrom. It's got a Heroish flavor.
The steps NguyenHuu posted are exactly right. If you're going to install this attachment, the last part is crucial.
1. Unzip
2. Place extracted file somewhere in /sdcard
3. UNINSTALL "STOCK" APP IF INSTALLED
4. Find file you placed in /sdcard and install using your favorite FM
Credit to Manup456 for supplying me with the icons.
Here are the app versions I made using eclair and hero icons

Tested both on CM 4.2.3.1 and both work, just make sure you uninstall the previous version before installing this one
The hardest part is signing the new apk, but I found out it was made really easy by stericson here

Thanks guys! I was waiting for something like this to show up. I love the widget, but it didn't look very good with hero/sense....now it does!
EDIT: DOES NOT WORK FOR 1.1
Ok so here is my first shot at a theme.
I've done some image editing on this, but mainly its a compilation of stuff from other themes on this site.
Flash at your own risk/do a nandroid backup!
How-to Theme Development
And NpRussell for making this rom
And Oshaka for making .jar's easy to edit
And the themes I borrowed from:
Luminescence by Amoredraven
Blue_Haze by Cloverdale
And Enoch's theme, which I can't find atm.
So go send those people some love
And of course
hTC

Oops, to help clear it up, its using Home++, which is a home replacement app, in beta on the market
Works with the Hero? Vanillian might be hero-only tho... still, does it? Looks sweet!

Thanks.
I think the .jar edits would cause it to bootloop, but I'll have a look and see.
But only for vanilla roms, nothing with sense
This theme work with CyanogenMod v1.0 ROM?
Is the file corrupt?
Ive downloaded it and attempted to extract the files to view exactly whats been changed but it wont extract correctly?
are this really for htc hero? after i install & reboot but the btm scrolling icon was not there.
It may well be solely for the VanillainROM, which is in my sig.
It depends exactly what's been changed and where.
Good to see someone theming my roms anyway

If the theme says you have to use ahome or something, then yes you do, but ones like mine, which are MetaMorphs, you just apply them via the MetaMorph app and it makes it perm on your phone. Other types of themes are flash updates, again, making it perm on your phone. Major diff on MM and flash themes are MM only affects the pngs, where flash updates changes the whole apk so you could lose custom stuff you did to it before.
Just make sure you NAND before applying anything just on the off chance you dont like it or it messes your phone up.
I cant find many themes for metamorph any suggestions where to find?

There are 2 I have posted here that I know work for CM builds and Sprint Ports. As for others, look in the Hero thread. There are tons of them there that shold work as well. Trial and error is what I did to find out which ones worked for me and which ones didnt.
Is it possible to make your own HTC skins/themes and if yes how exactly?
Thanks in advance.

I haven't tried editing sense themes since.. FOREVER ago, since things like the htc hero / sapphire / dream "were in"
What I did back then was open up the rom file you download, and in it you'll see a bunch of stuff and go into system\app\ and modify to your liking!
I just took a quick look at a sense rom and it appears that "rosie.apk" is still there. IF things haven't changed as much.. that Should be your main launcher.
So what youcould do is open that via winrar and extract images and stuff out.. then edit it!
Other things like the status bar, should be in framework-res.apk (which should be in framework instead of /apps/)
I've only modded my themes using roms from aosp or vanilla so I don't nkow sense too well.. However this should give you a basic understanding! and the more you wanna edit, the more .apk files you wanna open! good luck
On a similar note, I am trying to modify android with customised sounds (lock/unlock/key press etc) and having some issues.
I have directly tried to place the .ogg files into the following path within android itself using droid explorer but that didnt seem to work.
The path i have been placing it is within the following:
...\system\media\audio\ui
Has anyone managed to successfully do this either with a working rom or pre flashing, in which case could give me some pointers on how to do this?
Thanks
am using go desktop...
