Is there anyway to save text and mms from a mytouch to the sd card or backup the info to load on a another Mytouch or a computer?
Backup for Root Users have the option to backup SMS. Don't know about MMS though.
This is for a stock mytouch that I need to get off some texts and photos attached to them
There is nothing on the market that will back up a stock mytouch? I need text threads backed up along with the photos in them
Don't think any FREE apps can do this.
Try MyBackup Pro, Save MMS, SMSVault.
I think I am over this sh%%ty phone after nurmous attempts to get sprite on my pc and it saying it needs my usb drivers updated, i'm done with this phone. The Hero roms have issues and really are not meant for the lowend t-mobile phones. With the other phones that are coming, this phone is crap

Easy now. It's a great phone but in my own personal experience, it's not hero capable. Others will disagree but the laggyness of the Sense UI is too unbearable for me.
Why don't you use MyBackup from the Market, there is a trial version to decide if it works for you. You can back up your SMS to sd card or to their servers on the internet.
As for roms, I would avoid hero and try Dwang, RogersRom1.5, cyanogen, etc.
Think about what you say. This phone isn't crap its a htc magic/sapphire NOT a HTC Hero! they are completely different phones

Good day folks,
I have searched, and maybe I didn't find it, so forgive me if this has been asked already, and just point me in the right direction...
I am simply a user, who enjoys the fine work the community puts out, I am able to flash back and forth, but not much more than that.
1) I was using the latest Cyanogen (via the CM updater program) with a theme (that I can't recall) with the 'Stericson' lockscreen and build. The main reason I used it was for the look and feel, which really made the phone. Unfortunately, I would use said ROM for about 2-3 weeks, until my G1 would become painfully slow, and would Force Close most any application, including phone and what not. I did clear all the various application caches in the 'Applications' menu of the settings, but the only relief I would get would be to reinstall everything about every 2 weeks. This became onerous and since I require a steady phone for my employment, I reverted back to stock for the stability.
I'm not saying this to say anything bad about Cyanogen or the community, and if there was a way to handle the stability and speed of the software, I would go back to in an instant. In any case, alas, I am back to stock. Any thought or comments about it? I'd be happy to research any questions you may have to help you help me here.
2) Before rooting my phone for the first time, I did downgrade to RC29, then backed up the phone. In that backup were my phone contacts, taken from the last sync before I rooted the phone. Due to another completely separate (non-G1 related) software, my contacts on Google have disappeared. When I restored my G1 to the backup of RC29, I noticed my old contacts were there, however, when the G1 synced with the Google Contacts, the servers overwrote the phone. I would like to know how to either a) force the phone to push the old contacts back onto the server, or b) extract the phone contacts from the G1 backup on the card so that I can enter them manually and force them back on the server.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Yeah I stopped using Cyanogen once I felt that it became way to "Mainstream" lol
If you ever decide to go back to your rooted G1 try Super D 1.8.
Very Fast and Stable. Have had it for a few weeks now and speed is still the same
but its really upto personal choice and phone. each phone is different in Very Big to the Most minute ways so you would have to try different ones and find one that is to your liking.
I dont know an easy way but I had to do this once... make a backup... restore your old backup... go to the market and download a contacts to sim app... there are a cpl of free ones.. there are some that backup settings and all... then restore todays backup and import your contacts from sim...
I'm a older newbe to all of this so please bear with me.
I have a Sprint CDMA Hero running 2.27.651.6 PRI 2.20_003 and PRL 60670 that is rooted using the Universal 1 click app. I have a new 8g card in it with the following apps already loaded
Astro file manager
Clockwork Rom manager
Titanium back up
I have done a nandroid back up before with my 2 g sdcard but not since moving the files from my computer to the new card. Also I partitioned the 2gig that was in it with the Clockwork manager not the amonRA version.I have no partion on the new 8gig card as yet.
What I would like to know is..oh hell..just about everything for this
What I need from my phone is something fast, reliable, bluetooth capable,a nicer typewriter and looks really cool, and doesn't drain my batteries in 8hours of just standby, along with a decent camera tweak that will allow me to try to do something with all of this red haze I have no matter what setting I try. What I don't want is something that is not stable and I have to keep updating or resetting it all the time becasue of the phone locks up like my Windoz TP-2 6.5
Is this posasible in one of the new roms that are out right now ? I have no use for the TV function or NFL foot ball..nor tweeting anyone of looking at facebook,or peeping them. I use Dolphin HD browser and a lot of the apps from the market like the level and distance measure along with the audio spl meters.Heck I don't use any of the Nascar stuff either..I would like to have my music loaded on it so I can listen to it at work and I want good calculators on it as well. I haven't really seen any of the different roms with or without sense besides Windows 6.5 and what is on my Hero and a friends Evo..so I really know which kind will fit my needs and I really want to use..
So..long story short..Please help an old geezeer figure this out

Hey, welcome to the forums. Sounds like you're already off to a good start.
Based on what you've said, I think you might want to try Darchdroid 2.8 first. Here's the link to that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703133
It's free from all the HTC Sense and Sprint bloatware stuff, no Facebook, Twitter, AmazonMP3 junk either. It's very simple, clean, smooth, quick, and most importantly, even with all that stuff taken out it's still very stable for everyday reliable use. It has a music player, calculator, and I'm pretty sure the camera in it works just fine.
You could also think about trying out Cyanogenmod 6, link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755795
It's running Android 2.2 (the next version of Android with newer features) and is currently very stable for everyday use. But it's also still in the process of development, so there are updates and changes still being made to it on a regular basis which you may need to apply occasionally. Many users are very happy with it though.
Hope this helps and gets you off on the right foot.
I know this isn't specific about the P970, but that's the Android I have, and that's where I'm experiencing this very annoying thing with Android and SIM.
All other phones I've had, all of them, always gave me the option to store both my SMS's and my contacts to the SIM card instead to the phone, and to transfer both SMS/contacts from/to the phone to the SIM and vice-versa. And it's a feature I found extremely useful, not only for keeping my privacy, but mostly for keeping my contacts and my messages always with me, no matter of which phone I'm using: mine, my brother's, my girlfriend's, or my mother's. (Even very useful when flashing different ROMs, trying CM7, going back to nova, or to stock, etc.)
All other phones I've ever had could do this, except Android.
With Froyo it was already not possible (or at least I never found how) to use the SIM for messages. Only I could use the phone. But still contacts could be saved to the SIM.
But now, with Gingerbread, it's even worse: the SIM is totally ignored (except, of course, exclusively for importing its contacts).
What's the f...g problem Google has with SIMs? Why this "discrimination". Why Google doesn't like SIMs?
I have a theory
Don't really know what you're talking about man, I have LG OB [that's why I'm here of course] and when I save new contact theres this option that clearlly say "save contact to: phone, SDcard, SIM"... even if is an existing contact you can move it or copy it to the SIM... before posting I checked so I'm pretty sure theres something you didn't notice or something
I guess google wants you to maximize the cloud feature on android so SIM is not used anymore as contact storage.
But i agree with you, user has the right to choose, not significant for most of us but by providing this option maybe useful for some users like you.

In LG's froyo you could save and import contacts/sms to the phone from your simcard.
But now as I'm using CM7 I don't see an option to create a contact for my simcard.
Not a big deal for me since I like this whole cloud thing. Perhaps there's an app in the market that will let you backup your stuff to your sim card?

Hi. Don't know if you read well my post.
I say: in Froyo, you can manage contacts in your SIM, though you don't have setting for "store messages in SIM" card. You have to do it one by one.
But in Gingerbread, you can't any longer use your SIM, either for storing contacts or messages.

That's what I mean. There are still users who prefer (or who even need) to store contacts and messages in SIM. For this, Google didn't need to implement a new feature: it would have been enough with leaving the feature which was already there. There are some "hidden corners" in the Gingerbread settings where -I bet- not more than 0,01 % of the users ever get to, but still they're there! How come they've totally disregarded the "store to SIM" idea?

Yes, there are a couple of apps that let you do it. But they're not very efficient, they're useful only for contacts (not for messages), and it's quite annoying and time consuming to use them. I liked much better the Froyo approach.

hehe... my mistake, you right I didn't take a good read at your post, and you're right can't seem to move/copy sms to SIM... I don't use that feature, but I do with contacts as backup, now you say you can't in GB, what about import/export to SDcard?? at least for contacts you can do that to SDcard
Yes, you can do that, save to SD. But it's not the same, there's not the same flexibility as with Froyo. And, after all, if you save to SD, you're still "bound" to the "Android universe", you can't escape: what's the use of having your contacts in your SD, Android format, unless you put that same SD to another Android phone? But imagine you want to migrate to Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Blackberry... whatever.
Maybe I'm too "nasty-minded", but I'm convinced that Google is not playing fair game here...

EDIT: you can import sim contacts from the sim.

Yep, and that's about what you can do with your SIM thanks to Google-the-Good-Guys. But think of this: in an ideal Android-Google world, a few months or couple years from now, nobody will have a single contact in their SIM because everyone had been using Android long enough; therefore, the "import for SIM" feature will be perfectly useless, and I can predict: it will be removed from future Android versions.
First, thanks for any help. Although I am a techie, I am not a phone techie, just a reasonably advanced user. I love reading here, but get lost on occasion with terms I don't know.
That said...
Perhaps someone can help me. Got my new One yesterday, and proceeded to restore apps from my Evo 4G LTE using MyBackup Pro, which I also used to upgrade my 3 previous devices, and to restore when I updated Android on the Evo from 4.2 to 4.3.
After the upgrade, most of the grouped folders disappeared (except for the AT&T one.) I cannot find voice mail, or anything like that.
How can I restore those? I was careful not to restore settings, Android Home, etc. Just apps, text messages, and call logs.
By the way, I was careful in that no settings were restored, and nothing with Android home. Just text messages, call log, and APKs. At least, that's what I thought. LOL I'd like to retrieve the folders like the Google apps, and the multimedia (if I recall.) Maybe this weekend I would be better off just doing a hard reset and restoring carefully. UGH.
was curious, wife is switching devices as title says. i dont really have time to sit at sprint or best buy. is there a way i cant back up her data such as calls, contacts, pictures. i always used Samsung and never had a problem. now its a LG and not sure what to do now. the S4 is unrooted and i know i could root in a snap, but dont want to bother with it unless thats the only options. app data would be out of questin since devices are different, correct? but anyways more important would be call logs, pictures, MMS and text, contacts..
thanx in advance..
First off make sure the contacts have been saved to google, not phone memory... When you log into your gmail on the new device it will automatically import your contacts.... As far as messages and call logs, use something like this app from the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync
It doesn't transfer picture messages so download all of them first and copy all pics to your computer and copy back onto new phone if you like...
You could always use something like dropbox or Google drive to save all pictures and files to "the cloud", allowing you to copy them back without a pc or otg usb flash drive
As far as app data, it can be copied, but both phones need root and use titanium backup.... Copy appropriate files to computer and back onto new device etc... There should be plenty of guides you can google to accomplish everything you want... I even copy ringtones and alarm tones etc to my new devices so I have the same sounds I like for everything because diff manufacturers use diff sounds, for example I use a Verizon exclusive ringtone on my now sprint device, because it's loud and annoying so I can hear it at work. Of course I root all my devices and that makes upgrading my device easy for me to keep all of my data
