[diff]sd classes - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just wanna if theres a big diff on
an 8gig micro SD Card class 4
vs. 8gig micro SD Card class6?

The only time you will notice a difference is with linux swap.

You also might see a difference with apps2sd.

Whats the read\write speed of my sdcard using my G1

On the G1 what the read speed on the internal sdcard reader because for some reason with compcache it don't make no difference if i use my 8gb class 6 micro sdhc or the standard 2gb class 2 sd. I was thinking maybe G1 phones internal reader dosn't let the class 6 run to full potential so if someone made or know how you can get a benchmark off the phone on whats the read\write speed of the card when inserted into the G1 would be appritiated.

Eh, compcache is compressed-swap-on-ramdisk, how could the speed of the sdcard possibly have any effect on that?
Also, sd card classes don't indicate a MAXIMUM speed, only a MINIMUM speed, so there are class2 cards out there that would qualify as class6. This is particularly notable in cases where the class2 card model was initially manufactured BEFORE the class 4 or 6 standards were defined. There is also a degree of manufacturing tolerance to it. I.e., some units are *just faster* than other.

sd card + speed questions

Hello xda community,
I am new to the forums and I really love the website
I just have a few questions about the android that I tried looking for but to no avail..
1.) I have the default 1gb microsd card on my g1 - if I upgrade that to 16gb sd card, will I notice any speed difference? Piece of sh1t.
2.) Where are text message data stored? In the SD? If so, how can I transfer it over to another SD card?
3.) Is there an Eclair ROM for g1s?
Thanks so much!
1.) It depends on which 16GB card you get. However, you most likely will see a speed increase. FYI, the best bang for your buck right now in terms of cost and speed is the 8GB Class 6 SanDisk Ultra.
By the way, I have measured the stock 1GB SD card and mine came in slightly slower than a Class 4 (@3.5MB/s) 66x (@9.7 MB/s) SDHC card. YMMV.
So, it is possible that you could actually see a speed decrease with a 16GB class 2 card.
What exactly am I looking for if my goal in mind is to increase my g1's speed?
Read/Write mbyte/sec speed?
The Size? (i.e. 8gb, 16gb)
Thanks
I was thinking about getting this:

Sorry, every instance of the word SDHC actually means microSDHC. I thought that it was obvious, however, I really shouldn't assume. That link you gave is the wrong card. That card will not fit into your phone.
This is the one that I have:

If you really want a 16GB card, either get this:
AData - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211378
or this:
Transcend - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208481
or this: (although I have no experience with this one)
OCZ - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227489
Thanks a lot for your advice. I ended up by an Adata c6 8gb microsd card for $27 at Fry's.
2.) Where are text message data stored? In the SD? If so, how can I transfer it over to another SD card?
I would also like to know
3.) Is there an Eclair ROM for g1s?
Yes, but not everything is working
I am waiting for one where everything works...

[Q] class 6/10 microSDHC card for a2sd+ ?

Greetings!
I'm looking at getting a class 6/10 microsdhc card for a2sd+, moving both dalvik cache and apps into the a2sd+ partition. my current LEXAR class 4 8GB sdhc tested at Write: 7MB/s and read 17.7MB/s by SDTools And 8MB/s write, 9.57MB/s read bt SD Card Tester. Can I expect better speed with class 6 or class 10 sdhc? I have been reading reports that speed doesn't go higher because the phone I/O interface simply could not keep up?
Which brand and model do you recommend?
The reports are most probably right, and going above Class 4 might give you nothing.
how disappointing... sigh..
While you may not notice a speed difference on the phone, you will certainly notice a difference when you use a card reader to transfer files. I have two cards: a 16GB class 6 Transcend and a 16GB class 2 SanDisk. The Transcend is noticeably and significantly faster when writing files to it via a card reader.

[Q] MicroSD Card for Nexus One

I have the stock microSD card that came with the Nexus One (4gb class 2) and I am looking to replace it with a higher capacity and higher class microSD card.
I am looking at a 16gb class 10 microSD card for this purpose. Will this be compatible with the Nexus One?
AFAIK class 10 cards are SDHC cards. Does Nexus One recognize SDHC cards?
I have read some compatibility issues with a 32gb class 10 card, but not 16gb class 10 card.
Also, I will be partitioning 4gb with EXT4 file system (for mount2sd reverse mount) and the rest FAT32 for normal use. Will class 10 card work with both these file formats and will mount2sd work?
Or would a class 6 card be better for speed and compatibility?
Thanks for helping.

The class 10 MicroSD cards are all SDHC category cards. That's what I meant.
Anyways, thanks for your help. I will get the 16GB class 10.

The HC in microSDHC, miniSDHC, SDHC, only means that the card has a high capacity (4 - 32 GB). According to the official manual, the Nexus One should support microSD cards up to 32 GB.
I have a SanDisk 32 GB microSD class 10 in my Nexus One and it has been doing great for quite some time! Runs smooth and with no hassles. I don't see why you would have any issues with a 16 GB.
using samsung brand
Hi
bought the fastest class 10 (samsung brand) 16gb with the highest writing rate I could find, and using the latest 4.2.2 rom it is faster than the stock version. simply amazing.
invest in good speed. it's worth every penny
